I love my lurkers! And the ones that engage in chat on my streams are really good at taking turns with the chatting which makes the conversations feel really fresh most of the times. I will probably have to work a bit on trying to focus my content a bit more as it is a little all over the place right now while I'm still trying to understand what I like to stream. Thanks for the advice as always. :)
I've been sitting here on the edge of wanting to do this forever. Your videos have opened up a lot of questions that I need to answer and I have not stopped thinking about streaming, I'm just trying to build that confidence to take the next step. Thank you for putting these out as I've made a lot of improvements to my setup with your advice already, and I will also be using this video to do my best to avoid losing viewers.
I’m so sick of these know-it-all RUclipsrs telling me I can’t grow by sitting in a hot tub like Amouranth JUST because I’m a slightly overweight 39 year old dude.
As a person who was a lurker before streaming... Thank you for telling people to stop calling out lurkers... Being called out feels like when you get called for a recitation in class.
I just want to grab some views and a following lol, everyone should be valued and respected. Maybe someone is busy and doesn't have time to chat or wants to just chill and watch? Nothing wrong with lurkin' a bit.
I lurk myself in some streams, lurkers are just as much as a support as an active chatter! I once was a regular viewer on a stream that suddenly started complaining that her chat was not active enough and blaming it on the lurkers. I was so suprised, I mean, the people who are watching you could have picked anyone else but they chose you. Always be thankfull of your lurkers! :)
I just started streaming last month and I was pretty amazed to have even one viewer and I was very grateful lol! I mean, you’re sitting there playing a game and talking about what you’re doing and whatever else and people are watching and listening? Like, what? That’s so awesome.
I started streaming 2 weeks ago. 10 streams in and I levelled up to an affiliate. Which was shocking I didn’t expect it happen too soon. And I had been streaming working on a concept design (ux/ui). I have many lurkers and I remember somebody said that I have many lurkers. I just said “that’s ok to lurk, as long they enjoy what I am doing”. After that a couple of lurkers started talking in chat ❤️
That's awesome to hear I can relate to that totally but I stream on RUclips everyday. I started out with zero viewers in December and now I have 5 to 15 people watching me daily. I thank and appreciate them everyday and can't wait to stream daily!!
Why would lurkers upset anyone? They choose to listen to you in their background instead of another streamer or some multimillion dollar HBO show. Lurkings a huge compliment
Re: Calling out lurkers, I specifically make it a point not to even mention lurkers in my stream, unless someone who's been chatting says "hey man I'm just gonna do some work and lurk for a bit" Then I'll just thank them for hanging out and that mention that lurking is totally fine
I do just chatting segments but my audience knows they can just sit back and let those who want to chat join in. It must be harder when you are smaller and have less viewers! #earlygang
Your audio is SO important! If your volume is not balanced or super staticky, then your viewership is not going to grow, and people are going to leave quickly. I’ve had so many streams that go below 5 average viewers when I was doing 13 average last stream playing the same game at the same time. Every time, it was some kind of audio issue, whether my game volume was super low, my microphone was super wobbly, or you could hear an obnoxious fan in the background.
Huh, I honestly thought it was common knowledge to be kind to your lurkers? I always make sure to thank people when they lurk cause even tho they're not talking they may be watching or at the very least have my number up a bit and helping me discover wise. These are amazing tips as usual and imma try to keep these in mind
I’ve grown to never even mention lurkers during stream and never even message them to thank them cause I don’t want to make them uncomfortable knowing that I know/notice they’re lurking. I let the lurkers just lurk, they’re a ghost 😂 Still love them though
@@CozyGen It is fine and good to thank the lurkers as a group for being in your stream, but just not by any of their names, unless they have let you know it's okay.
I have to say that we greatly appreciate all of the videos made for those who are trying to get better each stream. From the tech help (wed cams, audio, microphones), to Thumbnails and titles.. Thank you. It always helps us!
Quit my job to be a content creator on twitch, super terrified going forward after my first 2 weeks now. But your tips really help and its good to know that there's people struggling with the same things you are, and that there are ways to overcome it. Thank you :)
Wait people actually call out lurkers? I never encountered that. Everyone always thanked and appreciated lurkers because they stayed on the channel... Thanks for the video, Eljay. Good tips as always :)
At best, if people use the !lurk command, I just thank them for letting me know they're still hanging out, but then I dont try to engage them directly because they're clearly busy/not wanting to talk lol
@@mokanoki Exactly! I do the same. Goes both ways. When people lurk at my channel I just thank them for letting me know. Also remind them I have "unlurk" command to let me know they're back and ready to chat if they want. And when I lurk I also want to let the streamer know that I am there to support but don't have time to engage. I really don't understand why would people complain about this :D
I'd like to say a massive thank you! I started streaming a few months ago and it was your videos that helped push me to where I am now, I constantly tell people about your videos and actually gave someone your youtube channel and twitch channel last night as they were feeling down and useless at streaming. It was your small goals scheme that helped me carry on. keep up the good work buddy!
Thank you for being honest with all these tips. It's nice to hear the bitter truth rather than a sugar coated response like "it's just not your time to shine yet"
Needed this video, my average has been tanking and you hit the nail on the head with almost every point except calling out lurkers which is crazy of people to do. I got away from what was making people want to hang out and tried emulate what the larger creators are doing now, and people stopped hanging out. Now that I've seen this, I'll go back to what was "working" and just try to upload to youtube more. Thanks for the content as always!
I think your point on not be over confident but at the same time having the confidence to say that what you do is worth watching, is really inspirational. I'm a small streamer online and your videos have helped me think outside the box on a lot of things especially when talking to no viewers in stream. It helps a lot thank you.
I can’t tell you how much I love your content. You are incredibly knowledgeable and all the advice you give is definitely some of the most overlooked but important
i quit after 16 years. it was a waste of my energy with constant failures. i tried every imaginable tip in those years, and zero growth. so i guess its not for me. dream crushed
Streamers hope and hope for viewers to stay put in their stream. Viewers are not thinking the same thing, they have the freedom to leave but the streamers has to stay there. It's kinda sad.
Whew, I admit when people started saying "stop calling out lurkers" I got a bit nervous because I've been giving thanks to people who have been lurking (in general - y'know, thanks for watching). Thankfully what you mean is creeping on the viewer list and calls out the specific person and ask why they aren't chatting.
I’m glad you pointed out the lurker thing! It’s a pet peeve of mine. There were streamers (friends) that I liked to listen to while I’m doing stuff, or just wanted to lurk to give them an extra view but then THEY ADDED A BOT THAT CALLS PEOPLE OUT WHEN PEOPLE JOIN THE STREAM. And they’d try to start a conversation with me when I’d show up so I stopped going into their streams.
On the subject of “lurkers” nine times out of ten Eljays streams start right as I’m going into work, and I’m lucky enough that I can keep an ear bud in. That being said I often listen to the stream much more than watch it and it’s still one of my favorite streams to tune in to!
This is the nicest comment I’ve ever read, and I’m going to print this and stick it on my wall so if I ever get worried about engagements mid stream, I should remember there are cool and kind people just chilling :)
I never understood why people call out lurkers. Not all viewers will want to interact, some people just want to watch and relax, or have the stream playing in the background. Hell, I do that myself, getting called out for lurking would just turn me off from that creator
Like you, been studying a ton of marketing over the past few years. Im getting a fellow Funnel Hacker vibe the more I watch your videos. Thanks for the tips and value, as always.
There are sometimes when I'm lurking and I leave when im called out when I haven't said anything. If I want to talk I'll talk. So I totally agree with this tip
I really appreciate what you do here. I've been struggling as a very small streamer trying to figure out what's best for me and my channel growth. It's tough trying to figure out who I want to be and what I can do to bring something unique to my audience. Your videos definitely help me want to keep going and really try to make it work
Hey man, thank you so much for all of the videos, really informative and helpful....honestly confidence is probably my biggest issues, it’s something that I have struggled with in the past, but I feel that streaming is helping me get passed it.
a video on chat interaction, especially what that should look like at different sizes of chat would be great! I've found that what I can do with 3-5 active chatters is very different to 20 lurkers or 1 or 2 very engaged people. It would be good to have strategies to be flexible around that kind of thing. My main genres are talk show & podcast or maker and crafting, with only occasional video games/ttrpgs
I haven't been watching your videos lately to be honest, but this one is amazing, I really dont think you couldve made it any better and I really appreciate all the tips you give in this and it feels kinda good to feel like your bringing your community into your videos more. Keep it up jay! We love having you around!
This past month or so has been technical tutorials and Search based content, the concept was to provide long term sustainability to the channel and bring new viewers in, a lot of people from the community don't watch these but they are important :) Now it is a month of this type of content again! Glad you like the format! #earlygang
I myself love lurking. I have a !lurk command and I point it out to those who are watching. They aren't required to let me know, but it gives them to opportunity to let me know they'll be there listening but not engaging (friends who watch use it often and watch me play while they cook/bake/etc)
@@5h0wmanX I use Streamlabs OBS, and there is a command section to input and customize things people can toggle in your stream chat. For example, if someone types in '!lurk' in my chat, an automatic message will pop up that says "{Username} is now lurking!" Just lets me know they're listening but not able to type in chat for whatever reason ☺️
Ha! I always tell people they're the jester, not the king. Your videos resonate so hard. I really liked the demographic bits. I'll have to think about that. Thanks!
I've been thinking about streaming for a while. When I saw your channel, I saw every video I could. It's pure gold! Every tip is useful! Keep up the great quality!
Been following stream scheme tips for a while now and I recently reached affiliate! I have also come to the point where I don't know what content I'm bringing to people. I will start figuring that out and thank you for all the great information these past months.
Today I just did my second stream ever, and wow, I am glad I saw the lurker comment. I never really knew how that felt even when I was lurking, because I was always watching bigger channels where it's actually impossible to even notice there ARE lurkers. Thank you so much for that. I will try to stop even saying the word lurker from this point.

It’s actually a relief knowing I’m not doing any of these. What are your thoughts on premature focus on monetisation? I see a lot of 9 average viewers streamers with 10000 bits goals or 100 sub goal to die their hair. I feel like this hurts them a lot more than it helps but I have no data to back it up.
It can turn people off but they are mostly setting themselves up to have terrible goals internally. They’ll be disappointed and burn out because Twitch is not good for stable income.
I'm interested to know the line between pestering lurkers and letting them know they are welcome to chat if they feel comfortable? I'd find a video to help engage chat would be really useful.
"Thanks to the lurkers! I hope you're enjoying it!" is a perfect, "Hey, why don't you guys talk? What are you up to?" is too far hahaha I wouldn't worry too much, you are most likely not pestering, but I will look at adding an entire video about chat engagement!
Oh I totally understand! I always go from the concept of, "These are for people trying to make this a career" but if it helps others as well that is great!
I think the biggest issue I face is playing games I enjoy, and being consistent with games so that I can grow a core audience. I streamed some niche but discoverable indie games however, once I'd finished them, it felt wrong to just switch to another game but if I didn't I'd be somewhat forcing myself to continue a game that I'd seen as complete. Also finding multiple games that I enjoy to stream that are discoverable and are long enough to generate a core viewer is really tough!
I love it! You need to have confidence that what you're delivering is worth the watch, yet do not be complacent. There is always room for improvement that will shape the future of your stream.
I really love your honesty bro, like we need more of this type of content, people need to stop beating around the bush (if they actually want to help others) After watching this video, one would think, yea you know, most of what you explained is self-explanatory (common sense), but what I enjoyed the most was you literally told us to write it down. Straight up, this may have been the biggest part I took from the video. I like to think, yea I'll get to it later, it's not a problem. Wrong. Things start getting put to the back and the next thing you know, I have an avalanche dubbed 'get to it later' and I can't remember that FIRST issue that began the 42 car pile up. SMDH, I know I'm not the only one! So-I'm literally getting a book right now to dedicate just for streaming, content creation, schedule, and technical terms I will have to research when I have the free time, etc. You are like a compass man, giving me a sense of direction, true north. Thank you again, will definitely keep in touch and continue watching your videos. Please continue feeding me!
That hot tub joke lol.... I've actually green screened myself into a rich person's hot tub setup and it was a hit with my [very] small community.. As a chubby 30 year old (as of tomorrow) I have decided that the shirt will stay on for those scenes..... for now ;) haha... Thanks for the content LJM, I've learned a lot over the past few months
I've only made proper overlays 5 years into streaming (a few weeks ago in fact). At that point I already had around 500 followers. So yeah, those things are not required to get followers. (Still don't have a channel trailer tho, that one is hard)
The late and great reckful once said ; "Success is initially about creativity and eventually about consistency". The start is always going to require the most effort, but if you can break that ceiling then its only up from there until you hit the next ceiling x)
I've made this mistake CONSTANTLY and I learned literally just days ago NOT to do this. Lurkers are important I used to think if they just watch the viewer count wouldn't go up if they didn't watch. So I tried to look at my list and see the viewers and I instead call them out I hint toward them with certain subjects and jokes. I got maybe 2 or 3 comment back with these hints. Encouragement and engagement are important. But as you said "Don't push".
So so helpful ELJAY!! I can already feel the effects of your tips making a big difference! I rewatch your videos over and over to remind myself and make sure I’m staying on track. Technology is letting me down at the moment but I’m getting there! I’m having so much fun doing it too! Honestly man, thank you!
@@StreamScheme ok I’ll give you 30% of the credit! 😅 Not quite got round to RUclips yet, but I’ll get there! I’m still convinced you’ll make it to 100k by the end of the year 😉😁👍 #earlygang
I would really really love to see a whole video on how to engage lurkers in a way that isn't off-putting or won't scare them off! I'd like them to know how to let them know they're welcome and that I'd love to chat with them that I'm friendly and they're welcome to talk but without calling them out and making them feel uncomfortable 😅
Would you recommend that a small streamer make a channel trailer, or would you say they'd be fine just keeping the past broadcasts rolling while being offline?
Depends how many people are finding your channel while you’re offline, it is important if you have external funnels that send new viewers to your stream.
What about thanking lurkers who are lurking? At the end of my streams I've started thanking those who were engaging and also thanking lurkers for lurking. Still kinda calling them out but I think that's different.
Something I struggle with is comparing myself to others. I find I lose confidence in myself and spiral. It's somethign I've been working on though. Everyone's journey is different, I know that I provide valuable, funny content and that needs to be enough for me. I've been trying to only compare myself to me and it's honestly made things so much easier. When I do that I can see that in my first month I averaged 2 viewers and one of those was an alt-account of mine. Now 6 months I'm averaging 15. Not the fastest growth, but it's my journey. And it's been a fun one.
Lots of good advice here that I plan to take on board! Going away from this video with a lot to think about, and a lot of work to do. Love your work Eljay, and thank you so much for making these videos!
yeah...that lurker tip is gonna help out a lot, good thing it's only been my close friends lurking so far, I would've lost quite a bit otherwise. (they just jump in and lurk when they feel, never asked or forced in case you were wondering)
Hey Elj great video as always, just wanna thank you for helping me get started man. I've been streaming a game which didn't suite me for like 2 weeks now, just experimented and switched on to a different game just today. My layouts were sloppy, I wasn't using a Webcam, and I didn't have any bgm set up but still, I was chatting with one of my viewers the whole time, who actually liked watching me play it irrespective of the flaws. Just makes me wanna do more man, once again, thank you so much, more twitch tutorial vids!!
The hardest part is seeing where you can improve, the second hardest part is fixing it all! But you've got this now! :) Good luck! Glad I can help even slightly!
It would be really helpful to have a video on how to record your streams for VODS and some editing tips for uploading them to RUclips. I’m not planning on doing it right away but it would Be a helpful reference in the future
I'm currently watching all of these videos of yours on how to build a community on twitch. I'm honestly getting quite excited watching these videos and I'm planning to start this week. I have one final exam tomorrow and after that it's time to get to work 💪
I know this is an old video, but man its DEFEATING to lose your viewers. I went from an average of 10 to 30 viewera per stream and now I'm back to 0-2 viewers ans I have no idea what I have done wrong
I've got a problem, I have over 1k followers, which on paper sounds good, but no one is watching. I got the follows from people jumping in only asking for f4f and then leaving. I don't have people conversing in chat even though I state that it is encouraged. I'm not sure what I need to do but I would very much appreciate some help if you have the time.
I built up to affiliate and beyond by having a small group of friends (some streamers and some not) who would lurk in all my streams. LOVE YOUR LURKERS. Actively thank and be grateful for the people who are watching, whether they chat or not.
Every time there is a clip with twitch chat in it, I look to see if I can find my own name, lol. another great video, i think its really underrated and under discussed how much peoples attitudes effect their ability to succeed in general not just streaming, Eljay's right, you can't have a attitude of if only thing X were to happen I would be the best, the way you get good at anything is hardwork, disciple and practice. and that apples to all of life, not just streaming
I always try grab clips with people making jokes or roasting me as easter eggs, so that will improve your chances hahaha It's a tough to have the right mindset, I mess up a lot with my mindsets towards needing to work harder and being intensely critical so it isn't just over confidence, a strange balance honestly!
I got my most viewers last night. I got up to 5. Im gonna look into your channel more and and try to improve. It doesn't bother me to change and stream to 0 people or to 5. I have a lot to improve but im excited to grow!
Lurkers are extremely valuable imo, they may not directly engage via conversation, but they do boost the view count. Everyones valuable and plays a part, the more viewers you have will boost your numbers and get you in higher positions on the categories page. From what Iv noticed as a small streamer, the follows follow largely in the middle of a channel say with 40 streamers. The viewers who actively seek out 1 of 30 single view channels are great, the gains come from top 40% of the page.
This is some knowledge right here. recently I began growing. I went from average 3 viewers to 5 viewers to 8 to 10... all of a sudden i dropped back to 5, i even got raided with a party of 258 and stayed at 5ish live viewers. Pretty sure its due to me switching from a "rage game" which grew my stream a LOT to relaxing games. the thing is tho, i don't want to make my stream all about me getting tilted lol.
This is a great video. A lot of “how to grow an audience” is very obvious whereas this is essentially reminding us that our mindset and the atmosphere we put our channel in is critically important........ also that I need to get a hot tub and make a channel trailer
I am one of the top players of my game. Put 5000 hours into it. Won tourneys, medals, and have deep knowledge of every aspect of the game. There is a lot of value I could provide. I started a little recruiting program to get new players into the competitive scene and saw the biggest growth I have ever had on twitch. But now I reverted back to just playing the solo ranked mode and not saying much of value while I do it and I really noticed how that is killing my stream. I can't really focus on gameplay and commentary at the same time. The top 0.01% of the game are still over 1500 people, the category has around 3000 unique broadcasters a month. If you're not in the top 100 of all players then gameplay alone won't draw people in, I know that. My personal order when I watch other peoples stream would always be (most entertaining streamer)>(highest rank streamer)>(lower rank streamer)>(casual streamer). As much as I enjoy streaming the game and engaging with community, I feel like only focusing on the game is more fun for me as stupid as that sounds.
Great video. I needed this. Definitely a huge part of this industry is a mental battle and about having the right mindset and truly thinking about your content strategy. :)
Quick question into the round, is it okay to greet lurkers? For example, when I stream I check from time to time how many viewers I have (because I cant resist okay I am only a human) And when I see that there are more lurkers than chatters, I say something like "by the way greetings to the lurkers hope you enjoy the stream ^^ " Is that okay or should I just shut up?
Thanks for the honestly. That's really why I like your videos so much, because you don't see yourself at the top, looking down. You see your own limitations at the moment and adress them the same as you adress what everyone else is doing wrong. I really appreciate that, together with the awesome tips, that helped me and others so much already. Made me see my own limitations and now it's just a matter of time, till we figure out how to tackle the challenge. 💪😀 Looking forward to catch your next stream. ☺️
Most of my viewers are lurkers. I use Chatty as a chat tool so I can have the chat notification ping (as I'm in VR) but I can also see all the lurkers in the channel but I never mention them except at the end of stream to say thanks to *everyone* for coming to watch. And I do that even if there was nobody watching on stream because I have viewers who maybe only watch the vods offline. So I'm thanking those watching in the future. I get quite a lot of people who clicked follow when I was off-line. They watched the vod and followed. Maybe they don't like being called out on stream as a new follower, idk.
Eljay idk what to do man, I really want to grow my community, i have a really nice community of about 20 people who are regulars on my channel in my streams and videos but I play a really niche game and i feel like ive hit a wall in terms of how big my content will grow. Theres only roughly 60k active players on AO and I make videos that appeal to players of the game but its just such a small game i know its not realistically going to get me to like 50k subs. I would want to branch out to other games but I fear i'll to loose the community i already have, any advice? Should i just bite the bullet and try other games? Any advice would be really appreciated
Dude try out any games that ya have fun and your viewers plus other people will follow you. I was scared of the same thing when I told my community I was gonna play different games now they come in and just vibe hahaha
great stuff as usual. video idea, tips for twitch viewers on how they can help their favorite small streamer grow. i know my IRL friends do that, but they arent twitch savy or still dont understand twitch terms like 'lurking' and 'twitch prime'. just a thought. cant wait for next weeks vid
I don't have a hottub. Should buy one soon before the meta changes, haha. Also, your videos are always helpful and I try to learn from them as much as I can. Keep up the great content and cheers from Hungary!

I always try to encourage my viewers to chat a little, but I’m fine with lurkers.
Those views lead to more views on the platform because someone is actively WATCHING, even when not chatting. That matters too.

I lurk all the time and being called out sucks, because when streamers do this chatting feels like a chore.
I do just chatting segments but my audience knows they can just sit back and let those who want to chat join in. It must be harder when you are smaller and have less viewers! #earlygang
You should make a video on engaging chat. That would be lit 💬
On it!
Yes that would be great! I’ve had a hard time trying to find ways to include my audience when I talk
Yep it would be great
@@StreamScheme subbed just for this future video! Also because you’re content is the best!
Tbh that would be exhausting.
Absolutely! It is why every video I tweak slightly to make my audio better! CRUCIAL in every single way!
Huh, I honestly thought it was common knowledge to be kind to your lurkers? I always make sure to thank people when they lurk cause even tho they're not talking they may be watching or at the very least have my number up a bit and helping me discover wise. These are amazing tips as usual and imma try to keep these in mind
Common knowledge for most I hope! But not for everyone sadly! Hope the video helped!
I’ve grown to never even mention lurkers during stream and never even message them to thank them cause I don’t want to make them uncomfortable knowing that I know/notice they’re lurking. I let the lurkers just lurk, they’re a ghost 😂 Still love them though
Same XD
@@CozyGen It is fine and good to thank the lurkers as a group for being in your stream, but just not by any of their names, unless they have let you know it's okay.
I have to say that we greatly appreciate all of the videos made for those who are trying to get better each stream. From the tech help (wed cams, audio, microphones), to Thumbnails and titles.. Thank you. It always helps us!
I do streaming, but I don't know how to fix my mic quality and i just immediately forget to do it as soon as I stop streaming, love that for me!
Any time that you say "Let me know in the comments if you want me to do that." Just know, WE ALL WANT YOU TO DO THAT! XD
I know but I need the comments for engagements in the algo hahahaha
@@StreamScheme lol understandable, you got me to comment anyway!
Quit my job to be a content creator on twitch, super terrified going forward after my first 2 weeks now. But your tips really help and its good to know that there's people struggling with the same things you are, and that there are ways to overcome it.
Thank you :)
How did this go?
Hope it's going well man...
I'm curious how this went as well.
Wait people actually call out lurkers? I never encountered that. Everyone always thanked and appreciated lurkers because they stayed on the channel...
Thanks for the video, Eljay. Good tips as always :)
YES THEY DO! People openly complain about lurkers being not interactive! Like, what?! Hope the video helped! #earlygang
Calling out lurkers are weird most people appreciate lurkers
I thank my lurkers every stream during and after! Even if it’s 2 viewers that haven’t been chatting!
I appreciate that! Glad to help even a bit :) #earlygang
Yeah thanking people is fine! :)
Absolutely! It’s just such a positive vibe and high energy. Great way to start the day!
I never understood why people call out lurkers. Not all viewers will want to interact, some people just want to watch and relax, or have the stream playing in the background. Hell, I do that myself, getting called out for lurking would just turn me off from that creator
I lurk 99% of the time in streams, and it is an instant out if someone tries to make me feel bad for that! #earlygang
Like you, been studying a ton of marketing over the past few years. Im getting a fellow Funnel Hacker vibe the more I watch your videos. Thanks for the tips and value, as always.
10:55 “the games i was playing were relaxing”
Dark Souls clip playing in background
"were" .... they aren't anymore hahaha
Your videos definitely help me want to keep going and really try to make it work
It is a really hard to nail everything down when starting out, but glad I can help even slightly :) #earlygang
I missed your stream today dude was busy. Just saw this video now and had the notepad out writing stuff down! Thank you
Who's that absolute *unit* of subscriber at 3:07? Sounds like a great gamer.
This past month or so has been technical tutorials and Search based content, the concept was to provide long term sustainability to the channel and bring new viewers in, a lot of people from the community don't watch these but they are important :)
Now it is a month of this type of content again! Glad you like the format! #earlygang
Never even thought about calling out lurkers, I'm just happy anyone find joy in watching me
I myself love lurking. I have a !lurk command and I point it out to those who are watching. They aren't required to let me know, but it gives them to opportunity to let me know they'll be there listening but not engaging (friends who watch use it often and watch me play while they cook/bake/etc)
The lurk life is king! #earlygang
What’s a !lurk command? Just wondering, total noob thinking about setting up a stream
@@5h0wmanX I use Streamlabs OBS, and there is a command section to input and customize things people can toggle in your stream chat.
For example, if someone types in '!lurk' in my chat, an automatic message will pop up that says "{Username} is now lurking!"
Just lets me know they're listening but not able to type in chat for whatever reason ☺️
@@mokanoki thanks! Much appreciated ❤️
Thanks! Glad they are helpful! :) #earlygang
Been following stream scheme tips for a while now and I recently reached affiliate! I have also come to the point where I don't know what content I'm bringing to people. I will start figuring that out and thank you for all the great information these past months.
Lurkers are the backbone of twitch!💜
I've been binging your channel! You have such a good mindset and its refreshing to hear someone talk honestly about this kind of thing.
What are you up to?" is too far hahaha
I wouldn't worry too much, you are most likely not pestering, but I will look at adding an entire video about chat engagement!
Your videos always give great advice. I personally am not streaming to be successful really so I kinda just do whatever but I love your videos.
Oh I totally understand! I always go from the concept of, "These are for people trying to make this a career" but if it helps others as well that is great!
i just started streaming and its really fun to tweak things and make the streams higher and higher quality, youre an insipiration man!
Hope the videos keep helping! :) #earlygang
@@StreamScheme thanks man and i gotta say, im loving the timestamps!
I really love your honesty bro, like we need more of this type of content, people need to stop beating around the bush (if they actually want to help others)
After watching this video, one would think, yea you know, most of what you explained is self-explanatory (common sense), but what I enjoyed the most was you literally told us to write it down.
I love the timing of your videos, everytime I seem to stagnant creatively, you post a video and it gets me going again! Keep it up!
why own a hot tub when you can just green screen yourself into one! 😏
Because it is so hard to keep manually blowing my own bubbles and putting them on myself hahahaha
Happy birthday! I feel even as a semi fit 26 year old ... I'd also keep the shirt on! hahaha #earlygang
@@StreamScheme Thank you for the birthday wishes 😊
I've only made proper overlays 5 years into streaming (a few weeks ago in fact). At that point I already had around 500 followers. So yeah, those things are not required to get followers. (Still don't have a channel trailer tho, that one is hard)
I have to ask, your chat box in your stream looks amazing, how have you set that up (if you dont mind me asking)
It’s the pack featured in the first video on the channel :) and linked in that videos description!
@@StreamScheme star! Thank you!
The late and great reckful once said ; "Success is initially about creativity and eventually about consistency". The start is always going to require the most effort, but if you can break that ceiling then its only up from there until you hit the next ceiling x)
I always appreciate your unique perspective on streaming! I love topics that push me to self analyze what I'm doing and look for ways to improve.
You got this, you don't need to worry at all, Walf ;) #earlygang
@@StreamScheme You're too kind, my king :) #earlygang #notificationclub :D
I've made this mistake CONSTANTLY and I learned literally just days ago NOT to do this. Lurkers are important I used to think if they just watch the viewer count wouldn't go up if they didn't watch. So I tried to look at my list and see the viewers and I instead call them out I hint toward them with certain subjects and jokes. I got maybe 2 or 3 comment back with these hints. Encouragement and engagement are important. But as you said "Don't push".
Quick question, people around me keep telling me to switch games because my viewers drop when I play them- what is your opinion on that ?
Eljay, thank you for another genuine and well thought out video. You rock!
Sounds like you're growing because of your own hard work! Nothing to do with me! #earlygang
@@StreamScheme ok I’ll give you 30% of the credit! 😅
Not quite got round to RUclips yet, but I’ll get there!
That’s fine and a kind way to do it :)
I MUST catch you in stream. This YT content isn’t enough for me anymore. I DO enjoy it tho
Lots of good advice here that I plan to take on board! Going away from this video with a lot to think about, and a lot of work to do. Love your work Eljay, and thank you so much for making these videos!
Glad it was helpful! :) #earlygang
yeah...that lurker tip is gonna help out a lot, good thing it's only been my close friends lurking so far, I would've lost quite a bit otherwise.
(they just jump in and lurk when they feel, never asked or forced in case you were wondering)
Awww your content definitely isn't "shit." I've found your videos to be quite helpful. Thank you for all you do, ElJayEm
Where can streamers get mp3 sounds for alerts redeems and stream decks? I use myinstants but where else?
It would be really helpful to have a video on how to record your streams for VODS and some editing tips for uploading them to RUclips. I’m not planning on doing it right away but it would
Be a helpful reference in the future
Good stuff. I work 5-2 and watch your vids on my lunch breaks. Motivates me to stream. I appreciate it all
The part when you said u were playing relaxing games then it was showing dark souls knowing for sure dark souls is not relaxing lol
That was the joke :)
I built up to affiliate and beyond by having a small group of friends (some streamers and some not) who would lurk in all my streams. LOVE YOUR LURKERS. Actively thank and be grateful for the people who are watching, whether they chat or not.
Lurkers are king! #earlygang
I always try grab clips with people making jokes or roasting me as easter eggs, so that will improve your chances hahaha
It's a tough to have the right mindset, I mess up a lot with my mindsets towards needing to work harder and being intensely critical so it isn't just over confidence, a strange balance honestly!
I got my most viewers last night. I got up to 5. Im gonna look into your channel more and and try to improve. It doesn't bother me to change and stream to 0 people or to 5. I have a lot to improve but im excited to grow!
Another amazing vid. Should have been early gang on this but I appreciate the guidance as always!
Hey Eljayem just curious, what game or thing were you doing on that stream at 2:19 ?
Just a buzzfeed quiz :)
@@StreamScheme oh cool thank you
You literally keep me from going insane.
Thank you for your content man
This is a great video. A lot of “how to grow an audience” is very obvious whereas this is essentially reminding us that our mindset and the atmosphere we put our channel in is critically important........ also that I need to get a hot tub and make a channel trailer
The vibe you bring is 90% of the reason people come and go :)
@@StreamScheme got it, so 10% is hot tub. You should definitely check out my twitch stream and give me some pointers on which hot tub to buy :)
For example, when I stream I check from time to time how many viewers I have (because I cant resist okay I am only a human)
And when I see that there are more lurkers than chatters, I say something like "by the way greetings to the lurkers hope you enjoy the stream ^^ "
Is that okay or should I just shut up?
I think that’s fine as well :)
Looking forward to catch your next stream.
Always happy to see a new video pop-up
Hope it helps, unbound! Thanks for the support man! :) #earlygang
Oohhhhhh interesting idea! :) Will look into it! #earlygang
