The one giveaway I did was on a 24 hour charity stream I did for Weston Park Cancer Charity - the giveaway was for those who donated (we raised £900) and as well as stuff from the charity like a t-shirt, balloons, etc, it included signed artwork by Nick Apostolides: the voice actor for Leon in RE2 remake. That was ridiculously lucky, to be honest, as I reached out on the basis of "the worst that can happen is he says no" and he was such a down to earth, helpful dude.
Hey man, don't apologize for the viewer intent. It is a major failure on my part and I'm sure others and they haven't realized it yet. Everytime I've gained a follower I drastically switch up my games or don't play that game for a week or two. My schedule will change in ways that make it hard for anyone to care. It's been very detrimental. More people need to realize just how important it is. I think some of us get caught up in trying to figure out what we want to play and miss what the viewers actually did enjoy and what times of day we got the most engagement EDIT: There are more issues I have, but audience intent is one of the worst ones.

My son wants to start a gaming channel on youtube, but I'm feeling so lost as to how to help him. Do you have any advise or resources on what equipment we'll need to get this started? We have an x-box and a switch, but can he record/stream from those devices, or do you recommend playing from a laptop/desktop? I've tried to connect our xbox controller to my mac, but it doesn't work. I've been scouring the internet for answers and am coming up short. Can you help a stressed mom out? 😂😂
I remember when I started watching you when you had about 10.000 subs. At that time I had streamed for half a year and never managed to get viewers. which was, obviously, not very motivating(is that even english?). But whith the help of your videos I was able to build a small community and I was very very happy about it. But then, this summer, I stopped streaming because of some private problems and because my viewers were dropping slowly down. I couldn´t figure out why and for about two months or so, i didn´t stream/streamed only a few times. But today when I saw this video and I was again thinking about why my viewers dropped i realised I hadn´t followed your tips, like good go lives, titles, etc. These worked so well for me, but when my viewers were going up i just kinda forgott them. But today, with this video, I got a part of my motivation back and I think I´ll start streaming again. Your content is great as always! So I figured out how to check a games data on Twitch Tracker before I play it. I'm a smol streamer rn but will it really make a difference what days I play a certain game? Any advice is welcome
There's so many things I wish I had known before streaming. I started about a year ago and it wasn't until a few months ago that a fellow streamer told me that playing "too much" variety could actually hurt your stream, kind of like what you mentioned. I was playing so many different things and once I thought about it, it makes sense. Since then I have migrated to one genre of games. Hoping to see an improvement in viewer retention. It's so hard tho :(

Hey Eljay! I wanted to say real quick that I used one of the free overlays you have on Discord, I couldn't use overlays before because my computer was broken and I had to stream from my PS4. But now that my computer's fixed and I can use overlays my streams views for that day tripled! Thank you so much for all your help, your channel has been an invaluable resource!

As a long time streamer that went into hiatus for two years for personal reasons, I've finally come out and started streaming again. However, my platform of choice no longer exists. So, of course I have to start from the very bottom again. Also with that comes ring rust sort to speak. Things have evolved while I was gone. Things have changed and improved far ahead of me. Hey Eljay, I’ve been watching a lot of your videos recently and they’ve helped my stream look pretty good. But because I don’t have a sufficient income I don’t have much professional equipment or anything so I was wondering if you could maybe make a video and recommend some equipment on a budget e.g microphones, stream decks, monitors etc
This was a great piece of information. This talk can also be applied to getting "hosts" and "raids". You get tons of followers from a big host, but at the end of the day less than half of those new followers just gained will never come back, inflating your followers but not increasing you viewers per stream. What do you think?

First of all, huge congratulations on the 100k, that's a big milestone for anyone, here's to 100k more! I'm definitely with you on audience intent and my niche. I've been switching over to RPGs recently, and have had much better engagement and viewers, over the usual Apex and even Stardew stuff. Maybe the curse of the variety streamer is that the audience intent is just not there at the beginning, and it puts people off... Second of all, #own3d onlyKentrop and I'd get the Black White pack, because I'm basic like that!
This is one of the first places I go when I have an idea and want to see if you have tips. As cool as the giveaway is, other people likely need that far more than me, regardless of being a 0-3 average viewer minnow. I hope the people that win it, get to used the hell out of it and grow huge

ive never done a giveaway when i used to stream but i used to watch ALOT of streamer "help" videos. THey all seemed to contradict each other or just gave the same super generic advice. Its hard for new streamers to know the right tips to listen to because there are so many channel out there milking the new streamers for youtube views. i think this channel has given the most useful advice ive seen even tho i dont stream anymore haha.
It is REALLY hard to tell the difference, I struggle constantly and I'm incredibly harsh with myself hahaha Glad to hear the channel has been helpful or interesting even though you don't stream now hahaha!

Showed irritation when no one said anything and ended up telling everyone they would provide shipping in the US but outside the US, the winner had to provide the shipping. Imma small streamer been at it for 2 years just hit 30 but got bit by the bug when i had 18 people active in chat and fell in love with it. So as someone who is a fresh streamer, I stream different things on different days, Monday's is usually something from the PS1/PS2 era, Wednesdays is something new that I picked up, like Voice of Cards, and on Fridays I usually try to do Final Fantasy XII. Should I not do different games and only stick to one or two till I complete them?
I explain that in a few other videos, by switching around so much you're going to hurt your growth. Someone follows Monday for game A, comes back Wednesday for Game A but it's Game B which is completely different, they leave because it isn't what they enjoyed. You should focus on one genre, one niche, or one game consistently for a bit while you build your audience.

I remember my first giveaway, unfortunately I got a bunch of people who followed just to get a digital copy of AC: Valhalla, cuz my family surprised me with the deluxe version pre-order. I had the entries set to followers only so that way those who stuck around during my AC Marathon and history/lore lessons could enter and to keep out random entries that just want a free copy. But afterwards I lost half my follows when it was over though and the winner still watches my streams when he can. And other but, but the giveaway also made me realize that I need to be more with giveaways now I have rules for when I do giveaways to hopefully make giveaways go more smoothly.

My recent giveaway consisted of a monthly contest to make a clip of their favorite moments from the stream and post it in discord. End of the month I chose the top 5 clips and we viewed them on stream with the viewers voting for their favorite. Top two winners got to choose from a list of 5 game keys to be awarded.
Stream scheme has the great tips but I'm still trying to make my channel discoverable by posting gaming videos and commentary how can I grow my channel more
After a quick look at your RUclips channel, I'd say you'd want to rethink your RUclips strategy. Spend a bit more time learning about the RUclips algorithm with my guides and VidIQ guides. Currently your content would have very little reach or discoverability sadly. Good luck!
Side note: make sure your state/local laws allow you to do giveaways, it would suck to do a giveaway and find out after the fact you could face some repercussions

#own3d AdonisNimbus here, I'd probably be looking at getting one of the minimal or clean packages as a starting point to building my own. I already have a fairly minimal overlay as is.
Honestly there isn't really anything else to cover, the guides I've released are everything you need to grow as a RUclipsr other than editing guides, but 99% of editing guides should just be "Hey, if you just aggressively edit, and watch videos about editing, you'll get better"

also that algorithm thing is what killed my youtube channel it didnt always used to be that way but when I got 100 subs a big youtuber tweeted about me telling his followers to get me to my next 200 etc, I got nearly 2000 over night, but course none were watching my content, so after about a week even the people that did want to see my content were not getting shown my videos any more, i averaged like 50 views per video before, my last videos over a year ago got like 4 or 5 views

I've been struggling with how to grow and getting a bit down on things lately, I've hit a cap at 19 AV (haven't grown really since the beginning of Sept.), and my YT channel doesn't seem to be improving that. For every massive stream, I get 30-50 viewers, another stream that usually does good tanks that weekend to 13 viewers, heck this weekend, people were asking when my next stream of CK3 was (AoE4 just released and we were all hyped for it, and those streams did well), several people signed up as it was multiplayer, but the day came only one of the signees showed up and they had technical issues (usually the MP cames do well). The funny thing is revenue is off the chart and I 3x'd my revenue from my best month and had my first, second, and third hype hitting levels 5, 5, and 3. So revenue is telling me people are really enjoying my stream, but analytics are flat. Also my YT channel, I recently posted a video with over 20% CTR after, 17.6% likes, a couple of comments, and 40% watch time; the issue 78 impressions, only my shorts do alright 50% of the time. #own3d Krovikan666 Celtic Complete Package Series

I remember when I entered a giveaway from someone with 10 followers and I told him, giveaways aren’t the best idea He told me, I’m already at 20 followers, even if just 1 person stays after the giveaway, it would be worth it He stayed at 1-2 viewers.. he did get to 50 followers but nobody wanted to watch him

I love the Heavy overlay pack! Solid choice! 100% I think a lot of creators rush into "get follower quick" methods that can set them up for failure, this is more a warning and heads up so people understand the risks and proper way to handle it :)

I started about a year ago and it wasn't until a few months ago that a fellow streamer told me that playing "too much" variety could actually hurt your stream, kind of like what you mentioned. I was playing so many different things and once I thought about it, it makes sense. Since then I have migrated to one genre of games. Hoping to see an improvement in viewer retention. It's so hard tho :(

Hey Eljay! I wanted to say real quick that I used one of the free overlays you have on Discord, I couldn't use overlays before because my computer was broken and I had to stream from my PS4. But now that my computer's fixed and I can use overlays my streams views for that day tripled! Thank you so much for all your help, your channel has been an invaluable resource!

This was a great piece of information. This talk can also be applied to getting "hosts" and "raids". You get tons of followers from a big host, but at the end of the day less than half of those new followers just gained will never come back, inflating your followers but not increasing you viewers per stream. What do you think?
How do you recover from someting like a 1k follows because of the giveaways you've done? if it's irreversible, do you just restart a new channel?

First of all, huge congratulations on the 100k, that's a big milestone for anyone, here's to 100k more! I'm definitely with you on audience intent and my niche. I've been switching over to RPGs recently, and have had much better engagement and viewers, over the usual Apex and even Stardew stuff. Maybe the curse of the variety streamer is that the audience intent is just not there at the beginning, and it puts people off...

This is one of the first places I go when I have an idea and want to see if you have tips. As cool as the giveaway is, other people likely need that far more than me, regardless of being a 0-3 average viewer minnow.

I started a stream 5 years ago and built up a sizeable following (~1k followers). I stopped streaming due to school and work for a few years. Recently, I've started streaming again to 0-1 viewers (no surprise). Is my large follower count with low views hurting me in this case? ive never done a giveaway when i used to stream but i used to watch ALOT of streamer "help" videos. THey all seemed to contradict each other or just gave the same super generic advice. Its hard for new streamers to know the right tips to listen to because there are so many channel out there milking the new streamers for youtube views. i think this channel has given the most useful advice ive seen even tho i dont stream anymore haha.
It is REALLY hard to tell the difference, I struggle constantly and I'm incredibly harsh with myself hahaha

I watched someone do a giveaway just yesterday. Physical product and called out the lurkers to join said giveaway. Showed irritation when no one said anything and ended up telling everyone they would provide shipping in the US but outside the US, the winner had to provide the shipping. Hows it goin brotha another great vid man! Iv been hearing a lot recently that one of the best ways to grow is to post on TikTok. Was wondering what your thoughts about that is? Imma small streamer been at it for 2 years just hit 30 but got bit by the bug when i had 18 people active in chat and fell in love with it. So as someone who is a fresh streamer, I stream different things on different days, Monday's is usually something from the PS1/PS2 era, Wednesdays is something new that I picked up, like Voice of Cards, and on Fridays I usually try to do Final Fantasy XII. Should I not do different games and only stick to one or two till I complete them?
I explain that in a few other videos, by switching around so much you're going to hurt your growth.
Someone follows Monday for game A, comes back Wednesday for Game A but it's Game B which is completely different, they leave because it isn't what they enjoyed.
You should focus on one genre, one niche, or one game consistently for a bit while you build your audience.

I remember my first giveaway, unfortunately I got a bunch of people who followed just to get a digital copy of AC: Valhalla, cuz my family surprised me with the deluxe version pre-order. I had the entries set to followers only so that way those who stuck around during my AC Marathon and history/lore lessons could enter and to keep out random entries that just want a free copy. But afterwards I lost half my follows when it was over though and the winner still watches my streams when he can. And other but, but the giveaway also made me realize that I need to be more with giveaways now I have rules for when I do giveaways to hopefully make giveaways go more smoothly.

My recent giveaway consisted of a monthly contest to make a clip of their favorite moments from the stream and post it in discord. End of the month I chose the top 5 clips and we viewed them on stream with the viewers voting for their favorite. Top two winners got to choose from a list of 5 game keys to be awarded.
Stream scheme has the great tips but I'm still trying to make my channel discoverable by posting gaming videos and commentary how can I grow my channel more
After a quick look at your RUclips channel, I'd say you'd want to rethink your RUclips strategy. Spend a bit more time learning about the RUclips algorithm with my guides and VidIQ guides. Currently your content would have very little reach or discoverability sadly. Good luck!
Side note: make sure your state/local laws allow you to do giveaways, it would suck to do a giveaway and find out after the fact you could face some repercussions

Honestly there isn't really anything else to cover, the guides I've released are everything you need to grow as a RUclipsr other than editing guides, but 99% of editing guides should just be "Hey, if you just aggressively edit, and watch videos about editing, you'll get better"

also that algorithm thing is what killed my youtube channel it didnt always used to be that way but when I got 100 subs a big youtuber tweeted about me telling his followers to get me to my next 200 etc, I got nearly 2000 over night, but course none were watching my content, so after about a week even the people that did want to see my content were not getting shown my videos any more, i averaged like 50 views per video before, my last videos over a year ago got like 4 or 5 views

I've been struggling with how to grow and getting a bit down on things lately, I've hit a cap at 19 AV (haven't grown really since the beginning of Sept.), and my YT channel doesn't seem to be improving that. For every massive stream, I get 30-50 viewers, another stream that usually does good tanks that weekend to 13 viewers, heck this weekend, people were asking when my next stream of CK3 was (AoE4 just released and we were all hyped for it, and those streams did well), several people signed up as it was multiplayer, but the day came only one of the signees showed up and they had technical issues (usually the MP cames do well). The funny thing is revenue is off the chart and I 3x'd my revenue from my best month and had my first, second, and third hype hitting levels 5, 5, and 3. So revenue is telling me people are really enjoying my stream, but analytics are flat.
Also my YT channel, I recently posted a video with over 20% CTR after, 17.6% likes, a couple of comments, and 40% watch time; the issue 78 impressions, only my shorts do alright 50% of the time.

I remember when I entered a giveaway from someone with 10 followers and I told him, giveaways aren’t the best idea
He told me, I’m already at 20 followers, even if just 1 person stays after the giveaway, it would be worth it
He stayed at 1-2 viewers.. he did get to 50 followers but nobody wanted to watch him

100% I think a lot of creators rush into "get follower quick" methods that can set them up for failure, this is more a warning and heads up so people understand the risks and proper way to handle it :)
