      @@supposedlygreg If you run a 3 minute ad, every hour, you'll only stop pre rolls for the 30 minutes after the 3 minutes runs.
      Then they'll have 30 minutes of pre-rolls.
      As I said, 90 seconds is the max and does 30 minutes at a time unless you glitch it as I showed at the very start of a stream.
      People won't see midrolls that you run if they are subs or just viewed a Pre-roll in full as well.

    I followed the directions yesterday for how to set up ads and ran ads at the start of my stream before people came into chat and then whenever I took a quick bio break, and it worked perfectly! Not sure if it was a coincidence, but I had a lot more new people in chat last night from the browse page. Perhaps because they didn't get a preroll ad? Thank you for this video, Eljay, so helpful!

    I never knew you could turn off pre-rolls for mid rolls instead- and I’ve been streaming for almost two years.
    It’s disheartening to think of all the lost potential viewers, but I appreciate you for spreading this information!
    Wish twitch themselves would make their content creators aware of this feature though.

  • @k1tdunn

    As a new streamer, I had been too scared to run ads, even though I knew they turned off pre-rolls. I hate ads myself and really downplayed the benefit. I ran maybe one or two during breaks on separate streams, but never consciously chose to work them in. This video talked me into trying it and WOW. You mentioned this, but I really couldn’t believe with the timed ad running 1 minute into my pre-stream after me manually running an ad that I seriously got over an HOUR of no pre-rolls! Only one or two people were there and they were subs so they never saw them anyway! Totally insane. If I hadn’t run a single other ad that stream, the ones at the start would have been worth it alone.
    Then I tried to run a 90 second ad once an hour or so when there was a lull in the gameplay. (Was happily surprised with how easy it was to snooze ads too during more exciting gameplay!) I had never really worked in breaks to my stream before so I actually felt way better at the end of stream as I took those breaks to mindfully check in with myself and hydrate, stretch, find a healthier speaking voice if I had been screaming too much, whatever I needed. On top of feeling less exhausted, knowing pre-rolls would be off for a bit just felt like a huge bonus. I also went to a BRB screen with music and did the multi action button on my stream deck that you suggested, and viewership did not dip once.
    Thanks Eljay! Always giving killer advice. Love all these videos but never commented, this one was just so immediately impactful that I had to share my hype and gratitude. Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!

      @@QuantumKayos Sorry for just seeing this! I usually run a "pre-stream" screen for 5-10 minutes before I actually appear on stream. It says "stream starting soon" and I have music playing. While viewers are trickling into chat as my live notifications go out, my ads play and disable pre-roll ads before I actually start playing the game, and that guarantees that the entire first hour of gameplay is uninterrupted by ads for subs and non-subs alike!

    Having the ad manager has really helped me be more conscious of how long I’m sitting at my desk while streaming. Seeing an ad coming up and knowing I’m at a big part so it makes sense to take a break, go get water, go to the bathroom, just stand up and stretch for a bit, has been so increasingly helpful.

    A tip for clips and markers! You can still clip from the highlighter page with Alt+X. Clipping from the button in the dashboard just grabs 30sec of video but if you marker during the stream and clip afterward, then you can edit the clips and get better comedic timing OR make sure nothing got cut out from the clip. Granted this does take more time but it works best for me since I feel like I'm making more enticing clips to watch. I save highlights for longer sections that I want to save but if there is a short, less than a minute bit I want to be saved, I'll clip it after which precise editing.

    JUST A QUICK HEADS UP ABOUT THE GOAL BAR! You CAN customize it through OBS/SLOBS. If you add a filter to it and mess with the saturation/hue settings, etc, you an get a decent result. I made mine green to match my color scheme!
    As usual Eljay, absolutely BANGING advice and content. I can't wait to see you hit 100k, you deserve that coveted plaque. Keep fighting the good fight

    • @StreamScheme
      @StreamScheme  3 года назад +3

      You can use hue and saturation, but also a lot of users don't have PCs that can handle filters and barely handle streaming, so I'm hesitant to recommend it to most. I'd much rather Twitch just flesh out the feature so it doesn't add extra resources. :)
      Hope the videos continue to help! 100k should be in roughly a month, pretty excited! :)

    Yesterday I've spent researching for disabling pre-roll ads that I wasn't aware of (since I thought I could simply turn off ads) thanks to one of my viewers who told me in the chat they had to sit through an ad to watch me (big love for that guy)
    And then I've started researching for around an hour on both twitch streaming site, twitch support and the reddit sites to find my answers. In this video, you just confirmed my hypothesis and I've learnt a little bit more!

    I take an intentional break every 30 minutes during my streams. Before the break I let chat know we are taking a quick stretch/snack break. I’ve made several custom brb videos that play a compilation of my TikTok videos. My viewers love my brb videos. I play a different one every break so they are not seeing the same content repeatedly. I also set an auto action to run a 90 second ad to disable pre-rolls. So far since doing this for almost 2 months I rarely ever lose any viewers during my breaks. And as mentioned I break every half hour and run ads. I don’t do it for the money but I have noticed an increase in my ad revenue. I now average about $10 a month from ads. But my sole motivation for running the ads though is just to disable pre-rolls during the duration of the stream.

    The follower goal seems useful in other ways too. If "someone" is frequently following-unfollowing. They're probably one of those dirty bots (although, I haven't noticed them in a while, thankfully) While it might be spammy in the middle of the stream, it gives you (or a mod) all the more reason to report it.
    Has anyone had any trouble with them recently?

    • @StreamScheme

      The HOSS bots stopped, whether it is a coincidence who knows, BUT they stopped the same day and around the same time that the original HOSS said they were giving up and not coming back to streaming.
      Essentially, turns out the bots were created and named after 2 - 3 individuals, and used to ruin their name, as well as get their accounts banned.
      When one of them admitted they were leaving for good... the bots just stopped?
      Very odd situation honestly, who knows.

    The tips about ads are amazing for someone like me who is new to the affiliate scene. So just to confirm, your strategy of having 90 seconds at the beginning of the stream is like the ads come in while you are still on your pre-stream chat/loading screen? Because it really does bother me that almost every Twitch stream I enter has a 30 second ad immediately.

  • @spiritsery1133

    Well made as usual, thank you! A question since the twitch goal scrolls on chat when you activate it, would new viewers not see that scroll? Or would that animation play for only them when they join?

    • @StreamScheme
      @StreamScheme  3 года назад +2

      New viewers will see it again when you reach certain stages of the goal (halfway, one quarter, etc), or if big events happen.
      Its why they on screen widget comes with it to help make it clear.

    I’ve been manually running ads for a couple weeks now and don’t know if it’s helped a ton, but it hasn’t hurt. I stream iRacing and I usually take a pee break between qualifying and the race, I let chat know we’ll have an ad to disable pre-roll. Starts of races usually bring new viewers anyway, so I hope it’s having a more cumulative effect with them not having to wait.

    Pink is not all you're getting!! Use custom CSS to change it! I made the icon go away, made mine rounded, made the progress bar slowly fade through gradient custom colors, and made my background deep dark red. Some also design photoshop overlays to design the bar itself in amazing ways.

    I'm not sure the ad thing is working now. Could turn off pre-rolls for an hour last week but now the max I can get by doing the pre-roll after a minute of starting and running my own ad is 30 minutes. Shame as an hour of ad free time for new viewers was great.

    Hi, I wish I could find a video wherein the person clearly explains how the Twitch Ads Manager works. I watched dozens of videos about that topic and nobody does.
    There are several cursors to set the length of the ads and so on, and I've still been looking for what they are for. On the one hand, it's said we can delete pre-roll ads by launching an ad during our live, however, on the other hand, we don't know how regularly we've to launch those ads manually to prevent the next preroll ads from pop-up.

    I'm honestly pretty surprised that twitch even added the browser source for follow/sub goals, its pretty impressive. It is pretty basic but you could use a filter to adjust the colour of it, and you could possibly cover up the emote just by throwing one over the top as another source in obs.
    EDIT: Well I just had a look at the goals settings and there ARE customisation options now! Got some different colours, even in dark and light styles. I'm sure you could still mess around with filters and things though to make it even more unique.

  • @SirenCalera

    Thank you so much for the ad break info, who knew they would stack!
    I really like the new goal manager on twitch, honestly! Especially for communities where the emotes are a huge part of the culture and you're already out of BTTV slots. I don't think I'll use the on screen goal yet, though, 'cause OBS might actually try to kill me if I add yet another browser source...
    Also, bold of you to assume I could even spell supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, but I guess that's why we have captions!

  • @ImLeShoe

    One thing I have noticed while using the follower/sub goal is that if a bot quickly follows then unfollows, it will not recognize the unfollow and then from there the number is always screwed up unless you completely reset it

    • @StreamScheme
      @StreamScheme  3 года назад +2

      I’ve had bots follow and quickly unfollow while using it, it takes a few minutes but usually updates the graphic and goal for me. That’s one of the best parts for me since the SLOBs and elements goals won’t ever recognise an unfollow.
      That’s odd it’s freezing for you, is it just the widget? Just the chat goal? Both?
