Great stuff Col. I love that 12 fret inlay. I remember you filing & fitting that. Looks the part man. Good job.
Very cool, Colin! It's fantastic, and it sounds awesome!
Any chance you still have the black hardware? I'm trying to do the opposite, return it to OG black
Of course for the true OCD connoisseur it's the hole under the pickguard that the real trigger
Haha at first when he put the guard back on I thought out of sight out of mind and I was content with that but your comment has now got me thinking about it and yeah I don't think I could live with it.
Its chambered. People pay extra for that lol 😂
@@jmc1186 Just stick a wee piezo in there, and it's a true feature!
The world might be going through some shit, but this video made my day a bit better.
'Self isolate and CSGuitars' is the new 'Netflix and chill'
“It’s a decent fit, but not as tight as I’d like it to be… which is a common complaint of mine.”
Sex
He must be getting plenty, for common complaints.....🤣😜
@@oleauby3852 yeah no shit
If if its blown out, just beat it off the sides
I’m still stuck on him having an etched knob...
"Because I'm incredibly impatient." That pretty much sums up every project I've ever done.
My impatience has cost me a lot of time over the years.
Oh yeah, I can hear the difference with the plug.
"brand appropriate strings"...HAHAHA
I'm glad someone picked up on that. I'm even more glad it was you.
@@ScienceofLoud what can i say? i drink and i notice things
Serious offense against 'Authenticity' hahahaha....PAIRFECT! Hi from Switzerland 🤘🎸
No! Don’t fill them! They’re tone holes! 😆 The Dinosaur knobs made your guitar about 150 million times heavier.
But what if it was letting all the tone pour out?
CSGuitars You scientists and your logic! 😂 👍
@@ScienceofLoud Can't believe you removed all that tonality by desecrating that 12 fret with that inlay...smh...She'll never play like she used to thanks to all your bungling!
@@ScienceofLoud Hi there Colin !
Just to let you know my idea on those 2 tailpiece holes that you too out the thread peces and plug it with a
your diy mahogany dowel ....... well I would have left those in place and make that Brass pickguard company MACHINE AN ETCHED BRASS THREADED PLUG WITH 3 SMALL HOLES
MAYBE ON THE SIDES OR ON THE TOP TO BE able to tighten them !
This would had made a HUGE look difference from other Flying V's !
I wish you can drill back those previous holes put the old tailpiece threaded plug and screw your threaded crescent moon or a flat earth shape diy brass plug. You could had also add some precious GEMS (non-real ones of course) hehehe !!!
Maybe also Etch 1 mosquitoe on top of each brass screw ...!
These would had look like brass medallions .....So cool !
I hope you understand this idea
Super cool build, I want to do something similar with my Epiphone gothic explorer.
Great ending for the gothic V series, i'm happy to have been able to follow it from the beginning, I discovered the will it shred videos only when it was over. The only question is... will it sound good with the jtm45 kit ?
Is it just me or is Colin sounding a bit hoarse?
I had tonsillitis a couple of weeks ago when I recorded the bulk of this (something I regularly suffer from).
I can assure you I'm once again in peak condition.
CSGuitars Corona Scott Guitars??? 😳😳😳
@@ScienceofLoud riiip I used to have chronic tonsillitis before I got them out
The guitar looks like a Gibson custom shop
Gibson Custom Shop wishes their guitars looked like this.
@@ScienceofLoud shots fired lol
More like a signature
NAH, it doesn't have pre broken headstock.
@@ScienceofLoud theres a huge difference between your guitar and the custom shops:
One has hours of fine work and passion put into every aspect of it, has the best hardware and pickups picked out for the job and used to a masterful level, has a look and feel to it that makes people want to pickup the instrument and jam away at it
And the other is the custom shop
That's such a gorgeous instrument, well done!
there is only thing i would change: in my opinion the pickup covers, the headstock mechanics and the bridge should get the same aged dinosaur surface to match the other brass hardware,
Hey man it’s Dan from Rose of Sharyn, saw you at the Waterloo Music Bar In Blackpool the other night when we supported Rammlied!! Didn’t know you did all this!!!! Your videos are brilliant!!!! Find it hard to believe with all these guitars you got, you tried to touch my SG Vintage 😀🤘🎸
I'm a simple man: I see an SG, I try to touch it.
It was a good show you put on, I hope you are doing well. Keep me informed of any future shows.
CSGuitars cheers man, that means a lot and I will. Going to be watching a lot of your videos on here, love a bit of guitar luthier stuff!! Got lots of guitar videos on here myself. 🙂
That V is totally bad ass now! Very nice work indeed. Also your playing has improved SO much since I joined your channel some years ago..
Bark at the moon 🌙. Nice!
That's sick! No guitar is ever finished.
nice job on the guitar! Looks great. I just picked up a goth V myself! Cheers buddy
I like the uniqueness of the guitar that makes it yours with the custom hardware. I was pleasantly surprised how well the spot finish worked out, especially after the polishing compound. And, I had fun playing name that tune! Great choice of songs. :-) Electric Eye, Nothing Else Matters, 2 Minutes to Midnight, and Bark at the Moon. ;-)
10:45 Electric Eye!
I absolutely adore these vids, I love your incredibly genuine interests and level of mastery!
That guitar is a beauty to behold. Giving me mod ideas for my Explorer!
The selector Switch should be a dinosaur tooth 😍
“Somewhere between bugger and all” 😂😂😂😂
Ok now i would really like to see you work on a semi hollow. Would love putting plexiglass over f holes and cutting hole in back for access to electronics. Maybe some kind of lights put in side to show thru plexi?
I love the Dino!
The guitar is brighter because Gibsons come stock with 300k pots, and he replaced them with 500k CTS pots
Picts and Dino’s. it’s like going back in time and seeing a pict riding a triceratops chasing some romans off their land.
Damn that's a nice tone :-)
*BEAST*
I had the same problem with my knobs on my strat build. I used copper tape. Just cut it in strips the width of the spine. I wrapped it until I got required thickness. Popped on the knob tightened the set screw and has been on for 2 years with no problems.
Thats exactly what I do....every time i try to spread or close those splines i break them...
She's gorgeous!
The post hole looked kinda bugged me before, but truth be told i'm super digging the way it looks now. I'd leave it unless I was refinishing the whole guitar I think. Looks killer!
I love the knob designs Colin - my inner child still wants to build a Jurassic Park themed guitar one day!
Just curious - is there a reason you didn't use masking tape, or something similar to bulk the shafts of the pots versus just slowly layering glue into the knobs (as id imagine that might slowly shear/rub off)? I've done some guitar mods for friends over the years, but I'm not much of a woodworker so not sure if I'm missing something here (I better with the electronics and modding in effects, etc!)
Love the guitar and your Jake E Lee 🤘👊💨
Looks cool, nice job on it! I’ve had a gothic SG for 20 years that I’ve never really gotten into. I’m about to change the pickups, wiring, hardware and add a bigsby to see if it resparks interest. If not, I guess I’ll finally let it go.
Maybe do brushed gold pickup covers and tuners, for the FULL esthetic. Maybe even try emg 57-66, they would look cool, and sound is there to match
Bad hole repairs! REEE!!! DISLIKED, UNSUBBED, HATE COMMENTS!!! REEE!!!
"It's not as tight as I'd like it to be... which is a common complaint of mine"
HE MEANS YOUR GUITAR TONE YOU PERVERTS
I would pay top dollar to have you restore a flying v like this for me. It's absolutely stunning and very inspiring to see your level of craftsmanship and attention to detail. Beautiful work, Colin!
NOBS&NITRO!! Good name for a band... To paraphrase STING; ´If Someone says They Don´t Like Your Guitar... Is Like telling Them Their Misses Is A MOOSE ......
Awesome guitar! I have 2 Epiphone Flying V's. My next Gibson will be a Flying V. I absolutely love everything about them.
HEY that plugged hole? LEAVE IT ..IT'S FINE!!! no really its awesome .and gives it that road worn look...
Love this video! Such Great Info!
I've been looking for a good buffing compound...what did you use in the video? Thanks!
That's absolutely fucking SICK!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've been watching your channel since I've been playing guitar, circa 2015. I love all of your videos, especially the Shite Paul series and that one with the superstrat.
But THIS! Holy shit, man. This is an amazing guitar! It looks like something Mastodon would play!
Yes, definitely enjoyed this series of videos and very much looking forward to the amp series.
Keeping it loud 😎
FUCK!!!! AWESOME video and then you finish off with playing my favorite bands on that beautiful beast...I approve
This is still quite possibly the coolest fucking guitar I've ever seen, Colin. I'm incredibly envious of just how awesome it is! Maybe try some optima Brian May gold plated strings in the future.
You had me at ceratosaurus.
That turned out way better than I thought it would. I've always thought gold on anything was a bit gody. You changed my mind on that. It reminds me of a guitar inspired by Marshall now. Thanks for the vid. Congrats and great job.
I know that you've done a video on impedance, and connecting your amp to cabs, but I can't find it, so please could you show it again? I know this is a common question, but I think it's an important one? Thank you. M
Dude, I blame ye for making me eye my 80s Cort Flying V with the idea of doing a similar build. It is a set neck transparent red guitar with white/black/white plastics (pickguard and truss cover) and gold hardwares.
I was gonna put black pickguard and truss cover, along with a black/gold String Butler and black pickups. Now I'm thinking that it'd look good with aged brass covers along with gold pickups.
7:40... I could apply black nitro-cellulose with a spray gun, but there are several issues with that. 1, I don't have a spray gun...!
Colin, you're brilliant! :--)
I don't understand the appeal behind tune o matic bridges. Even the good Gibson branded ones have a tendency to rattle if intonated in certain spots. Also the tone of sold hipshot styke bridges just seems superior in every single way. Can someone explain?
Oh my God those plugs eeek
Just kidding awesome axxxxxx!!!!!!!!!
Looks and sounds great. I like the post repair being slightly visible, as a partial historical record of the life of a player. It's "legit" relicking.
Don't worry, a perfect looking guitar is a curse upon the owner, you don't wanna dent it do ya?
Howdy Colin, would you please recommend a soldering iron? I have been using a cheapo pencil, it is intensely frustrating. Maybe you could even do a whole video on soldering? Love your channel, I am always a bit smarter after I watch your videos. Thank you!!
Excellent build, Colin. The only thing I would have done differently is I would have used push/pull pots & wired it up to get different tones.
Top video as always Colin!!!
Have you had any problems with strings breaking at the tail plate end ? I have to thread the D string through a bit of insulation sleeve to stop it breaking on the Vintage style Strat trem plate! Apparemtly SRV got that idea from Scotty Moore! Maybe your fab hardware people could weld a little roller or something to the leading edge of that tail plate - in a similar way to the neck buttler jobbie!!
Iechyd da ....Peace & Volume from MADRID !
Excellent work, man!
The clip you put on the strings behind the bridge, what is it called? I have a Fender Jaguar that would benefit from one of those doohickeys. I’ve had a piece of foam wedged under the strings where they connect at the plate for years.
Hey, can you do a video on bass pickups, how to wind your own precision pickups, polarities and how that integrates with jazz pickups and it's polarity on a PJ style bass? I'd love to wind my own pickups to make my bass a bit 'hotter' but there's just not much info out their, and your videos are very in depth!
Finally some rare guitarist that loves something just like me dinosaurs and Guitars!!!!!!
Very cool video! I love that you do certain things just to hear the complaints! That was too funny. Especially loved hearing your playing Bark at the moon! Excellent video.
The only mod I would accualy do for it, it's to brush the pickup covers, thety're too "bright and shiny and new" in compare to rest of the guitar, regardless, awersome axe!
Okay, I've been binging your videos for a while now, and I have to ask: do you make guitars, as well as restore / customize them? This guitar is glorious, and I'd be interested to see something you made from scratch!
What I like most about these vids is watching you chug through riffs that are older than you are. Funny thing is, I recognize most of them since I was there when they were new. But I'll be damned if I could name them. Memory isn't what it used to be.
I bought a super cheap bass to get back into playing. Wound up with an extra thanks to a UPS screwup. So I'm going to use the spare to experiment with mods. I come here to learn what's what so I know what mods I want to make.
I dunno Colin, that hand moves pretty fast for someone who claims to have tightness complaints ;)
Linear tone pot?? Crazy - every linear tone I’ve ever encountered has a barely discernible change from 3-10 and tanks between 3 and 0. What’s the advantage here?
I may have to try that superglue 'layer' technique. Got a pickup knob that isn't quite tight enough, and wanted to secure it on the switch without completely locking it on for good. Will probably have to use a safety pin to apply the glue, since it's a very narrow opening.
I fucking, and I cannot stress this enough, love it.
Might have to work on doing something similar for my Epi Goth Explorer
2:15 I have a complementary idea to add. In addition to making a schematics, I use my phone to take a bunch of pictures of the original wiring including lots of close-up pics. Sometimes schematics is hard to visualize, especially if yer like me in that I have more than a few ongoing guitar projects, so it could be a whiles before I get back to any specific guitar project.
It's also useful later for returning a modded guitar back to stock prior to selling it.
I think the guys making you knobs assumed you would've used brass sleeves to protect the knurled split shaft when tightening the set screw...there is a set screw, right?!
6:56 I mean if you weren't cutting towards yourself...
That aside I love your work, this is a guitar I lust for.
Coo video! I have some knobs from Indra and had the same problem. I had a set of different size heat shrink tubing and one of the sizes fit perfectly over the pot shaft (didn't heat shrink it - just slid the tubing over). The Indra knob then fit very snug with a really good grip between the rough wood of the knob and the smooth thin rubber of the tubing.
Hey Colin. My lad and his band mates are all on lockdown because of the virus but still want to rehearse. Do you know anything about online rehearsals? I know your a bit of a tech guy, so wondering if you could help at all, a video would be great.
Subscribed and favorited. You deserve it bud! Been enjoying your content for a while.
Glad you kept it after all. Very nice work Mate. Looks Beautiful! Cheers!
Another relaxing and excellent build video!! nice guitar too my man.
I have to admit. . . . I click on your videos because of love that fucking accent. I just happen to learn shit from it too.
Your fast becoming one of my favorite channels to watch and damn I wish I had the balls to do something like that to my black Gibson les Paul standard .
shrinkage.......i was in the pool.....I WAS IN THE POOL.......
The copper looks amazing 👍 going to take advantage of the social distancing to get rid of a Floyd rose on my Jackson RR
Yo that nothing else matters solo caught me off guard as fuck well done sir🤘🏻🤘🏻
Ive never wanted a flying v, never liked the look..
But ur gothic flying v 😍😍 I love it
to be completely honest, i never noticed those holes before, and i don't think its something that changes the looks much, but if you think you should fill them, who am i to tell you "nah, its ok"
Didn't you want to age the gold pickup covers and the bridge?
Sweet. I love that vibe. Leave the hole. There will be losers discussing that with their psychologist in their next session
Are tou sure that is not a Kiesel? They are identical,,,, apparently
When shielding, you don't always have to solder non-conductive adhesive tape together. Folding over a corner of one peice of tape onto another usually makes the connection. Sometimes a small peice of tape over the folded corner holds everything conductively together nicely, from my experience. Great video!
That v is so fire!!! It the details on it give me some Jurassic Park vibes!! 🦖🦕
I swear, if anyone you most definitely are the Ron Fucking Swanson of guitar..! ^^
You sound a bit like, you've caught a cold, so get well soon and rock on. ;)
10:40 "Brand appropriate strings" 🤣🤣🤣
I think it's great doing your own thing. That's how the world got srv one or Eddie's Frankenstein.
Can you create an effective shield with a copper screen/mesh as in a "real" Faraday Cage?
Excellent! That’s one badass Flying V.
Nice job, Artistic touch to a cool guitar, use some automotive spot putty on the hole.
Fuck yeah, cool! Nicely done, m'man... cheers!
nice video, more like this would be appreciated =)
Omg what a difference in the sound quality!!
