This show was honestly the type of vampire tale I've been waiting for. Very reminiscent of Salem's Lot but better in some aspects. It really shows how vampires can still be used to tell new and interesting stories.
It was fascinating premise, but they completely dropped the ball at the end. They never did explain what the original creature got out of the bargain. And why was Pruit able to exist in the sun for weeks (or however long it took to get home) after first being bitten, but other people burned up the next morning after being bitten?
The fact they refused to drink the Sheriff's blood, deeming it "dirty" due to his chosen faith, made it apparent the thirst for blood was voluntary; making those who killed their families fully responsible in their acts.
I think they would have drank his blood just like anyone else’s. When he was restrained in the church at the midnight mass after the angel appeared but before they all started turning, Bev said to take him out back that they’d need food soon. It was only near the end when she said about his blood being dirty, but by that stage they’d all had their fill already so they weren’t in a state of craving
It's the whole "this is a gift from God" lie that keeps them from the sherif. Vampirism was a gift they were passing between believers. They have to give blood back to those bitten to keep them from completely dying, hence why the bearded guy turned a non believer friend who ended up killing his whole family cuz he wasn't shown/told about feeding them back Blood.
I think it comes with maturity. At first it's a strong impulse, but afterwards, one can learn to control it with time. Naturally those closest to the new vampires might end of getting the worst end of it.

Further making me think that the “Angel” deliberately picked this first victim, viewing him as the weakest amongst this heard of prey.

@@buckfutter99 True. That's why you hang animals upside down to drain the blood after slaughter. He needs to get a hookup with a hunter, butcher, or something.
@Eric Hockemeyer I was being facetious about hooking up with a butcher for getting bloody meat. I mean, one can do that if they want I guess. Probably should've put in a joke disclaimer there. I wasn't seriously endorsing people to straight up drink blood. That would be silly. I just expanded on the fact Herobruh mentioned. Hunters & butchers hang the animal upside down and bleed the meat. That's why meat in the supermarket isn't bloody. It's been drained. What's left over is myoglobin. I said this since OP mentioned enjoying medium rare & rare steak(imo the tastiest levels). Although it's red/pink in the center, you aren't ingesting cow blood. This is what people commonly mistakenly think about rare steak. They think: red/pink in center equals blood, equals completely raw. It's a personal pet peeve. This wasn't for OP necessarily, but for anyone that doesn't understand how this works.
I watched Midnight Mass one night to fall asleep to it, as it looked like some boring short series about a church or something. I had NO clue about the actual plot or any supernatural elements in the series, so I was extremely surprised and hooked when it was presented, and ended up binging the series. Such a crazy twist from my POV.
Really good mini series I can’t recommend enough. Fantastic acting. And it never addresses the word vampire. The woman that plays Beth Keane is brilliant and utterly convincing.
Yeah this show was absolutely spectacular, a really great take on the vampire myth and the character work was so strong. You could never be angry at Father Paul because he really did want to help the people of the community. His acting was brilliant. I just loved every aspect of it.
I watched this on your recommendation and man it was so good!!! It was insane how Bible verses were being twisted to suit and help justify monstrous deeds. One of my favorite lines was… “it’s never supposed to be about me… It’s supposed to be about God!” The character development and the writing was insane. Loved all of it.
I had heard really good things about this show so I binged it a while back. I was so glad no one had spoiled the vampire premise. I agree, this is one of the best Netflix series. Awesome video.
Without question this is one of the most sophisticated and moving vampire stories ever produced on film. It’s brilliantly clever and the acting is first rate although some of the dialogue needed trimming.
This show was honestly such a treat. It actually wasn't until seeing this video have I realised it's about vampires! I took everything under the ideology of a fallen angel/demon spreading and growing it's following, but now the vampirism seems crystal clear. Amazing writing that gave characters so much depth and the acting was just phenomenal. Monsignor stole the show for me, will be recommending this to friends for sure
I had flipped past this show several times on Netflix and had no idea it had vampires in it. This show was pretty good. I wouldn't say it's Netflix's best, but it definitely is a good show.
Great video, I love your content. I always thought that the pregnant lady’s body “consumed” her own baby from the inside as if the whole body craved blood and got it wherever it could find it.
Awesome video. One aspect I think you had off though. The bite wouldn't change you. Both the "Angel" fed Pruitt and Pruitt fed Reilly after he was dying and then killed him. Pruitt already had a bond with Reilly and saw him as his biggest goal to convince so he entered "communion" with him by feeding him his vampire blood. As for the village if they didn't take communion they died from being drank. Hence the second alter boy saying he killed his mom. Pruitt wasn't a vampire till he died. My theory is Bev poisoned Pruitt like she did the dog after she saw the picture of his younger self. It literally showed her get the poison before he started getting sick. So my theory is Bev tried to kill Pruitt to force a miracle.
I didn’t know the show was about vampires my mother was watching it and I was intrigued curious and had no idea vampires was in it now I’m going to watch it love this channel 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I really enjoy your content. I can recommend Brotherhood of the Wolf. A french werewolf story directed by Christophe Gans. One of my all time favorites
Genuinely, one of the best TV show of the past few years. If you have patience, it pays off. Though if you havent seen it and watch this video, you'll lose a lot of the impact of the discovery.
@@twix3637 No, in the movie Dracula untold, the vampire in the cave was not a fallen angel but a victim of either some high ranking demon or Satan himself. However the vampire in the cave is supposed to be the 1st one.
If any of you remeber "the strain" those vampire origins was close to this very biblical. Now the show doesn't cover it but the books does. Definitely give it a look
You know, I'm glad were getting the monstrous vampire. Instead of the goth/emo "I'm a victim. No body understands me." I like it when a vampire is a supernatural creature that isn't a human maybe with fangs that feeds on blood. I also like the willpower idea, but most vampires who don't want to feed on humans probably get killed off for thinking differently.
@@Heath86 Well there's House Of Ashes, Trese, and Bethesda's Red Fall. So I think were finally getting the immoral undead ghoul who'll burn entire towns to the ground, and not cry about thier false-victimhood.
@@jamesj5612 Your right. I meant the edgy victim. Who'd you definitely shove a wooden stake just from being around them. Regardless if they were a undead or not.
2 things misunderstood/or not addressed: I dont think Leeza could walk again, because she stopped to consume the Blood. That would be very fast. I believe the show tells us, that the Vampire now is dead. Both children watches it flying desperately west, to reach the Mainland and Warren says, that its too far for it, to reach it (50 miles). The Sun goes up, we see some turned people burn and suddenly Leeza said "I cant feel my legs." and thats the moment, the original Vampire burned in the sun. Another thing is that Father Paul often says, that he hears the Angels Voice in its head, so I wonder if the Vampire can establish a telepathic link to his victims and possibly read them. My guess is, that it realized, in the Tomb, how value Pruitt is, while feeding on him and spared him, to get free and rise in power. They must have some sort of understanding, because you see the Vampires behaviour in the church, posing like a saviour. And the scientist only research and watch and actually state that they dont have a clue, whats the blood is about and how to treat it. Interesting is that a blood example from an unturned one exposed to the sun is only burning the vampyric blood away and keeps the human one. So, the show is doing an amazing job in showing, not explaining.
Wow, I missed this. It sounds wonderfully fun. Some of these ideas were talked about in the batman and Dracula comics, Red Rain, Bloodstorm, and Crimson Mist. I highly recommend these for anyone that enjoys vampires.
Really enjoyed midnight mass. The scene where everyones introduced to the "angel" where the camera suddenly panned and it was there scared the hell out of me! Great breakdown video.
I am Catholic. How he confused that fact That He Had Risen and the Angelic creature via Dementia was an incredible storyline. It took my son weeks to convince me to watch it, and I had to watch it twice I enjoyed it so much.
I like the mystery of the vampire, like it could be thousands of years and had been in that cave/tomb since or it could be not that old at all and it doesn't actually take that long for someone turned to turn into that
@@matts6607 that's the thing it could have been in there for 1000s of years or it could just be like a hundred years we have no way of knowing unless they make a sequel/prequel
Yeah given how much concern there is for whether something is an Angel, Saint, completely fake, or demonic, is so important, it would be really off for a lot of people to just assume it was an angel without a lot more reason. Especially something with this context.
I think that just emphasizes how deeply brainwashed most of the town was. They were all afraid and doubtful when they first saw the "angel," but it was easier to accept it as an angel rather than face the reality that their beloved community leader may be leading them into a nightmare situation. It's easier to twist reality to fit their narrative rather than accept that all the supposed miracles were something far more sinister. That's what religious fanaticism does to people. It's easy as outside observers to see the situation for what it really is, but those characters are not on the outside. Their community was desperate and dying for years, and this thing gave them hope and happiness. Why wouldn't it be a Godsend, right?
@@AD-dg3zz idk if you payed any attention but they would reference that humans looked on angels with fear. Angels when described were much scarier than this
And it’s also hard to dismiss the creature as a demon because it could enter a church with no issues, it would listen to Pruitt’s prayers, BUT it was feral when feeding
Spoilers : I had to watch this for an extra credit assignment and I watched it at dark and when the sun rises at the end, the sun rose where I live. Perfect timing. Yet, I am scared to death and terrified of vampires. At the end it really freaked me out yet it was a beautiful end. Loved seeing Beverly fall. LOL. Great show!
Anne Rice’s vampires are the only vampire stories I enjoyed. They are more “realistic”. Actually Midnight Mass gave me the same feeling I had when I was reading Interview with a Vampire for the first time.
I realized right away that it was a vampire show when I was watching it. And it is a really good show and I cannot wait until season 2. Or I should say I hope there is a season too. And personally in my opinion the guy that plays the priest is very cute..
That show was really damn awesome. Not for the plot itself. But for the way they present it. I watched that show at night and skipped school next day just i could seamlessly finish it.
I just started watching Midnight Mass after seeing it mention by this channel. It shows some ideas I have been playing around with for vampires in my DnD homebrew setting.
The thing I like about this is that they actually make the vampire look actually like a vampire not Twilight cuz I always hated the movies that made them look like beautiful angels when they were actually blood feeding demons
What was so cool about this show was you never really know what the creature is, or it’s true motive… leaves you guessing and opens up good conversations with other fans..
Great video. But there are supernatural aspects to it I would say. The preacher says he can hear the voice of the angel in his head. Its at least a hint that the main vampire can communicate by telepathy with his minions
Thanks for turning me on to this series. Most series I start will take me a week or so to finish but I went thru this one in 2 days. Great drama with a Vampire twist, Very cool.
I second this. The vampires in the Netflix series seem to have some unique aspects to them; from them seeming to be an entirely separate species, to their ability to eat food.
@@coganLollins it's got a great cast. Alot of British talent like Graham Mactavish (the cowboy out of Preacher) the lad who ayed Thorin Oakenshield out of the Hobbit and Bill Nighy in the latest season.
Okay I am glad I caught your video cuz I saved this show on Netflix but never knew it was a vampire show after watching your video I definitely want to start watching midnight Mass thank you I appreciate your video
My mom started watching this. I realized it was a vampire show the minute the vampire gave the priest his blood to drink. When asked how I knew, I explained that I possess a Working Knowledge of the Occult. Not enough to be an expert, but enough to recognize what creature of the night is being employed in most any scenario
On Vampire Babies, the film 'Vanhelsing' has Dracula try and bring his Vampire babies to life the same technique Dr Frankenstein used to create his Monster.
I definitely think the vampire was wise enough to spare Pruitt so that he could lead him back to his island. He knew that the townspeople would fall for him being an angel once he bit Pruitt. I believe he could see his life and his thoughts and experiences.
I watched this show because of the first 3 minutes of your video. Thank you for this video, I thought the show was a fresh and amazing take on the genre.
Its funny, when I was watching it I didn't know it was about vampires. But you can see Monsignor getting off the boat with the trunk in the first episode. When I saw him at the docks my brain just went, "huh, that's a suspiciously big box, is it a vampire?" But I also think there is a slight supernatural element to this creature's stealth. There are multiple scenes where people look directly towards it and the only time they see it is when it moves. Then when they look back its gone. That kind of makes me think its can move unnoticed if it wanted to, but its choosing to let them catch a glimpse in order to scare them.
Midnight Mass was soooooo good and well done. I LOVED it. I found it cuz I watched Haunting of Hill House and Haunting of Bly Manor (same maker)... and it's sooooo great.
Thanks can’t wait to see this series. So far your explanations remind me of The Strain from FX a few years ago. Really difficult to find intelligent films and television about vampires and werewolves. I subscribed to your channel and appreciate your intelligent reviews.
Biggest gripe I have with the show is the girl in the wheelchair, it was so out of character for her not to drink at the Easter Mass, but they did that to have a girl boss leading the one brother around at the end. Is it odd that her one speech is delivered so insufferablely that you feel sorry for the drunk? Yeah she's annoying.
He's done The Haunting of Hill House, and the Haunting of Blaire Manor before this one. He uses a lot of the same actors, like American Horror Story. Outstanding series all three! Can't wait to see what he's working on now! They seem to come out around Halloween.
Just came across your channel, about time that we have a channel dedicated to vampires and werewolves movies! Looks like I'm missing out on a lot of good movies
Also you absolutely need to check out Dog Soldiers if you've not seen it, it's basically a bunch of Scottish soldiers fighting for survival against a pack of werewolves.

@Eric Hockemeyer why not just take iron transfusions?
Well eventually the kidneys shut down.
Rotten Luck. Be grateful for your life
I watched Midnight Mass one night to fall asleep to it, as it looked like some boring short series about a church or something. I had NO clue about the actual plot or any supernatural elements in the series, so I was extremely surprised and hooked when it was presented, and ended up binging the series. Such a crazy twist from my POV.
Me too lol
Probably never slept again
I too tried to fall asleep watching it. Ended up binging like 3 long ass episodes. Was worth it tho
Really good mini series I can’t recommend enough. Fantastic acting.
And it never addresses the word vampire. The woman that plays Beth Keane is brilliant and utterly convincing.
It would have to exist in a world where "vampire" lore and media didn't exist
Best vampire adaptation in more than a decade. This series was soooo good!
The church reveal was probably one of the best reveals in television. You felt it in your gut.
So glad you ended up doing this show. It was super interesting to watch.
Thank you 🙏
I really enjoy your content. I can recommend Brotherhood of the Wolf. A french werewolf story directed by Christophe Gans. One of my all time favorites
It was actually a lion in tht film....one of my fave movies of the time as well
Thank you! I will definitely check it out thanks for the suggestion
@@quentinhill4264 Thanks for spoiling the reveal. Dude, why?
@@GreenDayFanMT thought maybe u actually thought it was a werewolf....my bad! 🤗
Brotherhood of the wolf scared me as a child but I loved it!
Genuinely, one of the best TV show of the past few years.
If you have patience, it pays off. Though if you havent seen it and watch this video, you'll lose a lot of the impact of the discovery.
This channel is a gold mine! Midnight Mass is truly incredible, Mike Flanagan being my biggest inspiration as a filmmaker.
this show was fantastic, the scene on the boat was so heartbreaking
The Dracula untold "vampire" in the cave is actually the real origin of the vampire. While also not actually being a vampire, but a fallen angel.
Wait really
@@twix3637 No, in the movie Dracula untold, the vampire in the cave was not a fallen angel but a victim of either some high ranking demon or Satan himself. However the vampire in the cave is supposed to be the 1st one.
@@MrSteve-hy9yo ohh
If any of you remeber "the strain" those vampire origins was close to this very biblical. Now the show doesn't cover it but the books does. Definitely give it a look
@@alexkertamus1998 While I still like the show, the books where so much better.
Goth vampires are fine, emo vampires, like twilight are shit. I mean Dracula is the most classic goth vampire
If people who made vampire movies would actually read dracula and based their vampires on him they would be the scariest monstrous vampires ever.
@@jamesj5612 what's twilight vampires? First time I heard of it.
I really enjoyed this series. Well written and the actors performed. Would love a sequel.
Would be interesting to hear more about the Vampires from The Strain.
I love the vampires from the strain. In the books they are Angel snot or yeet I can’t remember which. Truly weird.
The strain, 30 days of night and John carpenter vampires are pure gems.
I am so down for more content than vampire movies, good stuff.
Now that everyone is sick of zombies, vampires seem fresh again.
This show is so good. So captivating and intense. I was shocked how good it was. If you haven't experienced it then please do so.
2 things misunderstood/or not addressed:
I dont think Leeza could walk again, because she stopped to consume the Blood.
Jesus is a Zombie Hippie.
loved this show. i took it as the vampire was like one of the "angels" in the bible, or maybe better yet a fallen angel
one of the best shows (or movies) I’ve ever seen in my life. every aspect was impeccable
I really enjoyed this mini series. Though some of the monologues a couple of characters went on, did go on a bit for me.
I like the mystery of the vampire, like it could be thousands of years and had been in that cave/tomb since or it could be not that old at all and it doesn't actually take that long for someone turned to turn into that
i think it was in that tomb for a long time and the sandstorm finally opened it up. lots of mysteries buried in the sand.
@@matts6607 that's the thing it could have been in there for 1000s of years or it could just be like a hundred years we have no way of knowing unless they make a sequel/prequel
It was hard to suspend disbelief when every Christian I know would've taken one look at the "angel" and immediately thought "that's a freaking demon".
Angels when described were much scarier than this
I think you should look up what biblical angels would've looked like. They look like eldrich abominations.
And it’s also hard to dismiss the creature as a demon because it could enter a church with no issues, it would listen to Pruitt’s prayers, BUT it was feral when feeding
Could you do the Vampires from Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter?
I definitely want to cover that movie, it was a lot better than I thought it would be
@@coganLollinsCool :D
Terrible movie
Spoilers : I had to watch this for an extra credit assignment and I watched it at dark and when the sun rises at the end, the sun rose where I live. Perfect timing. Yet, I am scared to death and terrified of vampires. At the end it really freaked me out yet it was a beautiful end. Loved seeing Beverly fall. LOL. Great show!
I really must watch this. Sounds more interesting than I originally thought.
Awesome video, awesome show. Next time do interview with a vampire- best vampire movie of all time.
I’m going to cover interview with a vampire for sure!
I really... REALLY loved this show. It has been a long time that I really got into a vampire movie and this did it well.
That show was really damn awesome. Not for the plot itself. But for the way they present it. I watched that show at night and skipped school next day just i could seamlessly finish it.
Great acting great vampire had me at the edge of my seat!
i just discovered this channel and now this is on my top ten favorites.
This was a pretty solid mini series.
I just started watching Midnight Mass after seeing it mention by this channel.
It shows some ideas I have been playing around with for vampires in my DnD homebrew setting.
I would definitely like to see you review the vampires from the show "the strain"
That is a video I am definitely going to make. Probably my favourite vampire show 🙌
I loved that show
The thing I like about this is that they actually make the vampire look actually like a vampire not Twilight cuz I always hated the movies that made them look like beautiful angels when they were actually blood feeding demons
Exactly! Or at least make them like the Bram Stoker Dracula.
@@russelturner5771 right
And Terrifying
But beauty literally tempts, which is a sin. Let's not forget Lucifer was the most handsome angel.
It's an interesting twist on the concept of an angel and what being holy means.
loved this show. caught me off guard in a good way
What was so cool about this show was you never really know what the creature is, or it’s true motive… leaves you guessing and opens up good conversations with other fans..
Great video. But there are supernatural aspects to it I would say. The preacher says he can hear the voice of the angel in his head. Its at least a hint that the main vampire can communicate by telepathy with his minions
My brother your analogy is always great. Keep up the great work.
Thanks for turning me on to this series. Most series I start will take me a week or so to finish but I went thru this one in 2 days. Great drama with a Vampire twist, Very cool.
Nothing to explain. However, you can explain why every single individual in this backwater village was so fond of monologues.
Well that was an easy subscribe. The fact you said if you hate the actors character their doing a good job it’s so true.
Love that he calls the main characters “this one girl/man”.
What about the vampires from Netflix version of Castlevenia
I second this. The vampires in the Netflix series seem to have some unique aspects to them; from them seeming to be an entirely separate species, to their ability to eat food.
I haven’t even heard of this show but I will definitely check it out thank you 🙏
@@coganLollins it's got a great cast. Alot of British talent like Graham Mactavish (the cowboy out of Preacher) the lad who ayed Thorin Oakenshield out of the Hobbit and Bill Nighy in the latest season.
I’d love to see a season 2 with bits and pieces of its origin reviled, but not everything! I love a little mystery.
Would prefer if they don't rush it. Will be intersting which way it would go
Why? It’s burned at the end
Flanagan has said he has no intent to make a Season 2
Okay I am glad I caught your video cuz I saved this show on Netflix but never knew it was a vampire show after watching your video I definitely want to start watching midnight Mass thank you I appreciate your video
My mom started watching this. I realized it was a vampire show the minute the vampire gave the priest his blood to drink. When asked how I knew, I explained that I possess a Working Knowledge of the Occult. Not enough to be an expert, but enough to recognize what creature of the night is being employed in most any scenario
I hope to see you do a video on the Vampires from the 1987 movie "Near Dark."
Midnight Mass is such an amazing series.
Damn this sounds good as hell!!! I love Vampire movies and you just put me on with this one.. I'm about to binge this one👀😂😂🙌🏾
I enjoyed this show, the acting was very very good.
This show cured my insomnia.
Was wondering as well as a factor to the vampire sparing his life is, he knew about the island straight away through blood memory
I think it’s the type of vampires that get powers as they age not right off the bat
Off the bat hahahaa
Thanks for the video. Can't wait to check it out! I started watching Night Teeth and it was ok but not anything like the way this seems!
It was hilarious that bevs racism survived the transformation to vampire. Even the sherriff laughs at one point after she shoots em 🤣
I had no idea what here was a vampire element. SO fun finding out organically
This programme was alot better than I was expecting
Biggest gripe I have with the show is the girl in the wheelchair, it was so out of character for her not to drink at the Easter Mass, but they did that to have a girl boss leading the one brother around at the end. Is it odd that her one speech is delivered so insufferablely that you feel sorry for the drunk? Yeah she's annoying.
this was really fun to watch last October, I'm going to see it every year to ring in Halloween 🎃
This is my favorite show of all time
Yep one of the best vampire show I’ve seen. I hope they make a season 2.
Nice to see about half these actors in "The Fall of the House of Usher." They must like working with him.
Also you absolutely need to check out Dog Soldiers if you've not seen it, it's basically a bunch of Scottish soldiers fighting for survival against a pack of werewolves.
Excellent series, I really liked it. So much to unpack. It's a show about the meaning of life and religion wrapped in a vampire genre, great stuff.
Stanley tucci in the lovely bones is the first actor that I truly hated because of how good he played the character. Such a good actor. Rare to find.
Great redemption arc, then moved into oblivion. LOVED Midnight Mass ♥
Midnight mass is so underrated.
