I’m currently married and have 3 children with Platt’s youngest daughter. To say that he ISN’T a topic of conversation in our family, his actions while vile and horrific are just a reminder that the motives can’t outweigh the death and destruction caused to the family members of victims. My wife says our second son looks just like him when he was in the military and the photos are eerily similar. My wife refused to accept money from those robberies when she was a 9 y/o as her mother told her where the money had come from and thusly she at a young age understood the nature of evil. Needless to say this documentary is a vivid reminder of how the actions of one can affect the generations that proceeds.
For your wife .. I am so very sorry . I am a friend of Ben Grogan and I am not sorry at all for what happened to Platt . Ben Grogan was a decent and honorable man Platt was evil incarnate. I hope your wife can hold her face up to the sun and can embrace life with joy and peace. She's not her father and doesn't deserve any ugliness that may be coming her way. All The Best,

This all sounds like bullcrap.
What I find absolutely astounding about this story is how, in 1986, the FBI did not have sense enough to bring more tactically appropriate weaponry to a gunfight.
Even more shocking is how they missed so many times at point blank range
They had access to MP5s and M16s but didn't bring them. That's what happens when you get bean counters out from behind the desk. Needed some meat eaters as door kickers. Edmundo Mireles acquitted him self well after his left forearm shredding. But going up against military guys exposed their lack of gravitas, which proved costly.
@@StoutProper When you are shooting a .38 snubby at a guy with a SA rifle, you will suffer from less than standard shot accuracy.
I've read that almost every agent was qualified for using an automatic weapon. The lives of the agents lost rests in the hands of those who decided not to provide them with the weapons they needed.
And the agents knew they were up against two murderers, at least a shotgun, a .223 and a couple of pistols. Taking only a pistol when you know you are going to be fighting a .223 and a shotgun is moronic.

I agree with Kevin. FBI have always been elitist and the failure to request local police assistance costs heavily that day. As a retired law enforcement officer of 24 years, this specific case was discussed in our Field Officer Safety training back in the 1990’s.
My thoughts exactly
The problem was after finding 223 shells at one of the crime scene they still chose to comfort the suspects with 38Specials and Beretta 9 millimeters and one shot gun. Was they over confidence or poorly trained in shootouts.

Strange, I felt the same way.
Its so sad that it took the lives of 2 fbi agents with everything to live for with families etc to initiate the changes in tactics and firepower. They knew how dangerous these 2 men were yet still chose to "take a knife to a gunfight" brave and courageous to the end. My heart goes out to their family and friends.
A knife is a game changer when out of ammo
Fuck the fbi

I was a cop in Coral Gables at the time and was off duty. I was getting lunch at the Suniland South shopping center a few minutes prior to the shootout. Salute Bill 💸,,, glad you still out here.
You shoulda been out there bill.. you coulda been the change in that horrible shooting
Alot of changes were made after this incident. These agents were just outgunned. Back then no law enforcement carried patrol rifles where most everyone carries one now, even detectives. At the time I had a Glock 17 with me which was my issued duty gun. If I would have been involved in that shootout it probably would not have ended well for me. Going up against an AK47 with a Glock 9mm is like bringing a knife to a gunfight. When these guys go out after these types of fugitives now they are as ready as they can be and are armed to the teeth.

I'm always amazed at how psychopaths like these guys, Lake and Ng, ripper crew, etc seem to find each other and just decide to do heinous things like it's brunch or something.
What is very strange is their brain ;power, how can someone knowingly that the police would be looking for them everywhere suddenly comes on the road and thinks they have got away with it all??? Even though I was in California, I remember hearing all about this story when it happened. One of the most insane parts of the story --- which I never knew --- is the FBI waiting on a stupid bureaucratic agency, DMV, and on the U.S. Mail to hand-deliver the identified Ford truck owner's license through the mail's delivery system, when agents could have gone directly to DMV and gotten it in one day in such a serious case of bank robberies and murderers. I certainly hope it's not still that way today.
My exact thought. Utmost importance matter and agents had to rely on DMV and US Mail. The approach should of been urgent business and personal pickup of needed documents. I hope FBI do business differently.

After the first two robberies where it was obvious the robbers knew the arrival times of the armored truck and it was likely they would stay in the area and would use the same kinds of weapons they used in the first two robberies, the FBI should have gotten together with the armored car company to find out their route schedule so they could stop the robbers before they killed again, using adequate weaponry to stop two men who were dangerous and desperate. It took them six months to figure out the robbers'plan, develop a plan of their own and put it into operation and yet they still were armed only with sidearms. Great detective work by the FBI.
They should have hired you to consult them on how to do their jobs. You are wasting away your expertise in front of your computer.

Knowing how these guys were armed it is surprising that the FBI didn't carry heavier firepower.
If you do some research, there were two shotguns on scene and two sets of agents who were on South Dixie who couldn't get there in time had automatic weapons.
That's why I'm saying! I mean at the very least they had access to shotguns!! So they all could have had them and there sidearm! But they could have got wayyyy better firepower if they wanted

When you consider the fact that over half of the FBI agents are attorneys and accountants, it’s no wonder this was such a disastrous cluster fuck. This is what happens when federal investigators who sit behind a desk and have to file mountains of paperwork before making even the simplest of arrests, take to the field and try to do police work. I was a cop from 1980-2017 and have been involved in multiple shootings. I can guarantee you that even our rookies have better tactics than what these so-called seasoned FBI agents had. No disrespect to the victims, but they were in way over their heads. Their arrogant belief that their status as federal agents would be sufficient for them to affect the arrest of these violent and seasoned criminals, was dangerous and deadly mistake. The FBI was out-gunned and were naive about how violent and determined those two suspects were.
I’m sure the FBI learned a lot of hard lessons from this incident, but having been on many calls with them over the years, they’re destined to learn many more. What we street cops took from this incident was this: Keep the FBI as far away from police work as possible. The run and gun FBI shows you see on TV are a joke. The plan wasn't always to assassinate the bad guys, the over-arming of the police started in the 90's. Used to be 6 45 slugs in a revolver would be enough. Now they have 13 in an auto or semi auto glock and still miss.

They obviously overestimated their abilities and underestimated the scumbags.
It was terrible.
RIP to the fallen heroes of that terrible incident… 🙏
I wanted to be a cop when I was younger , But I could never deal with the politics involved with that. I just wanted to catch bad guys . That’s a small percent of the job realistically
R.I.P. to 🕊 🕯 🙏 to all the lives lost in this case. Especially that Agent 1 year away from retirement. That made me sad 😔
Morales is crazy .. he said your coming with me dog 😂😂
Deep respect for the agents of the FBI
I had an encounter with a few last year and they were nothing but professional and courteous to me
An encounter you say...

It’s a pity that their leaders are so corrupt!!
This story changed police tactics and weapons in the US. Only criticism is this particular remake was obviously not filmed in the area that this happened. Would have been a nicer presentation and more of a tribute if it was filled on location.
A WW-II Garand Rifle .30-06 would have been great or an ancient .45-70
Maybe a 1893 Winchester lever action rifle .30-30
I don't think would have been very considerate to all involved tohave the remake in the original town / area.
Actually this incident just made the FBI catch up to the rest of law enforcement. They forgot history lessons while the rest of law enforcement remembered.
This video quality is crazy!!
I like seeing footage from when I was a kid. The clothes people wore and the boxy square cars everybody drove. $1.26 for gas. Times have changed a lot. Even from 36 years ago.
That's what I noticed to. Good Day.
WHEN i WAS A KID IN 1952 gas was 17 cents a gallon.
When I was a kid in 1964 gas was 28 cent a gallon.
@@doughill3396 Dang !! That would be $4.48 to fill up for me. lol
I miss the 90s can we just go back and stay in that time.
I saw the movie with Michael Gross and David Soul playing the bad guys a few times. My roommate at the time appeared in the movie for a few seconds because she was a bank teller and they did some filming in the bank she worked at. They did a lot of filming in Tampa, where we lived, not in the Miami area.
What's the name of the movie
Some of the driving scenes were filmed on South Gandy Blvd in South Tampa.
@@rogdog3257 in the line of duty
that movie is pure anti gun propaganda,, it shows the bad guy firing a MACHINE GUN,, when he did NOT have a Machine Gun...another reason we need Press Control Laws.
How the FBI looking for heavy armed men with those little hand guns , that was a big joke. They should even call up the miami police department.
4real lmao hahahaha....
Exactly....typical idiots....could have had 30 mimi dade units flood the area
The feds do not work that way. They refuse to share credit with any other law enforcement agency. They think that they are better than everyone else.
they were cocky, and got played like call of duty. pathetic performance by those officers imo
@@jamesroberts7262 Exactly
Growing up in Miami Beach taught me a few things. I married a police officer and he taught me how to shoot a gun. But before that he taught me all the rules of gun safety. Not sure this applies to this scenario. I am a good shot, but I wouldn't want to come across this scene. Thank you 💛 and God bless the victims families.
Was your cop husband ever abusive?
Huh?
I tip my hat to the FBI Agents who knew they up against some high powered weapons but fought til the very end!!! Heart and Soul 💖💖💖
Blows my mind the FBI agents didn’t carry a high power rifle in their car. RIP to the agents.
The reenactment always drove me crazy, in some scenes the actors are even using different handguns (possibly due to retakes, or extra shoots), they weren't even using the right ones. Better telling of the story was the TV movie , In the Line of Duty: The F.B.I Murders
yes, they obviously didn't care about accuracy in the details at all in this reenactment. Almost every weapon used in the shoot out was wrong or at least not the exact model.. and yep, a Colt 1911 in one frame, then a Beretta 92 Centurion? (1992 was the first year of production.. so) in the next frame fired by the same agent. Then one agent has a 1911 with an extended barrel while in full battery. Huh? No 1911s or Berettas were there that day. 100% Sloppy. Vehicle models and years were wrong. Actors not even close to looking like the real people involved at the time. Platt, not close. In the end I suppose it matters not, but I found that annoying as well since all the facts and details were easily known.
Plus they didn't even look like the real guys. And the armored car uniforms were more 1994 fashion.
@@anthonyedwards4993 who cares
@@tomkenny5864 thanks for playing 👍
What difference does it make when the actual event wasnt real?
They was no training at that time about how military tactics, advancing and firing, have a big advantage against guys hiding behind cars with little revolvers.
Sad that those two officers lost their lives trying to take out two evil men bent on theft and death. May we all have the courage to stand strong in the face of adversity when evil comes our way.
After watching this, how do feel about those who are proud of making arms presuming it is for security sake ? But arms aren't only for defensive purposes, and they kill !
@@samabeka3023
Sure weapons kill, and are not just for defensive purposes. Just showing a criminal that they possess one, or letting them know of such, can deter a criminal from carrying out their dastardly intentions, too.
BTW... I never said anything about manufacturers being, "...proud of making arms presuming it is for security sake?" They may take pride in knowing what they completed will function safely and properly when the need arises to take down an animal, to protect one's life or that of another by taking down the moronic fool called a criminal. So, are you trying to say that those who own guns should have poorly constructed ones which may fail in times of need, resulting possibly in their death??? I sure hope not.
IF it's ok for LEOs, government officials, or the military, to carry or use weapons, yet we the civilian population cannot, then the chance that a government being arbitrary will ultimately control and eliminate anyone they consider an enemy of the state without repercussion. That is totally unconstitutional at best. Those who choose to take out anyone who disagrees with their policies is completely wrong also.
It is our *right* to carry and use our weapon of choice (that is common among civilian population) since it is *GUARANTEED by The Bill of Right; this RIGHT is not to be infringed upon or tampered with in any way, shape or form. Yet, Liberal Democrats think they can with impunity. That is totally demonic in nature.
@@samabeka3023
Weapons of any kind are not evil, since they do not have a consciousness or think, nor function on their own power. It's the person with bad intentions that are evil and must be dealt with and not the "gun" that so many Liberals and their sympathizers keep trying to regulate and restrict.
@@itzcaseykc That is exactly how the heart of the evil ones functions, and they call it simple logic. Due to that baseness of spirit and thought, the world is now filled up with terrible and unimaginable acts of pure madness. The atomic bomb went to Hiroshima and Nagasaki, even though it had no legs to walk,or brains to get to Japan. Then, half a century later Obama, who has legs and a brain, goes to Japan and beg for the HOLOCAUST THAT AMERICA RAINED ON JAPAN. In my opinion, there's never being any act of such cowardice and shameful madness that can be compared to this act of barbary on the part of Americans. Still the naive and ignorant ones, believes it is convincing to make more and efficient weapons, which takes the lifes of both man and beast, simply because it is activated by an outside force and not by the weapon itself. As if that makes the gun less deadlier and evil. I believe it is the most stupid, childish and evil thing ever said by a person. It means even a child can kill someone or an evil person can pretend that the weapon accidentally went off,as they forgot to put it on the "OFF", etc.,and a whole lot of more nonsense,of which the evil-hearted has always a so-called "intelligent" explanation. A country like America is the last place l would like to be on this planet, due to their total disrespect for human lives, and no matter how big they talk !
Anything made by man, whether good or evil, and whether it thinks or not, will be used by man. It is will be used either intentionally or unintentionally,as that has always being the nature of man !
Just like the police when they kill innocent black people , it’s called karma that’s life ! They should mind their business, the federal reserve has enough money for the elites so fuck em!!
This shooting was the reason Col. Cooper developed the 10mm round which the FBI used for a minute and then went to the 40cal because some agents were having trouble qualifying and handling the recoil.
@David Chatterton I don't know where you get your information from but you need to stop reading that trash. just know that the 10mm was developed before the SW40.. enough said.
Isnt the 40 a 10mm round?
Police should all have long guns. Pistols are fine, but not for this incident.
@David Chatterton No caliber is a one-shot stopper. Bullet placement is always the key. Caliber is less important than that.
@@xObscureMars Yes it is. 10mm = 0.39"
Crazy I went to Palmetto HS an one of the agents daughters went to or school, she was called to the office. Other students skipping knew about a shootout behind Sunnyland and half the school knew when they got back to campus.
Now days this can be any store, neighbor, school or public place. We live in more dangerous times than ever..
Only in the US.

Agent Mireles..Hardcore bro. Kills both perp’s with a single hand using a multi action weapon. True hero!
Apparently, the perp in the driver's seat had his feet already perforated by shotgun blasts by Agent Mireles. They can not go far on foot; using the car pedals would be very painful and blood-slippery.
I'm left wondering about all the cars. If Platt and Maddox stole a fresh vehicle for every robbery, why were the abandoned cars never recovered and pricessed for clues? Incidentally, there was a good movie made about this starring David Soul and the father from Family Ties. It's on Tubi.
I wonder what these brave men would feel about the world today ?
For a shootout to last that long, everyone must’ve been using A-team bullets.
saw this again. epic
How in the world could the FBI not be prepared with rifles in their cars, when they were going after known bank robbers that used heavy weapons ??
Seen this about 4 times now and it's always amazing to see how these FBI agents stopped the 2 bank Robbers. Sad that they lost some FBI agents thow.
Always the same story from lost America Guns injustices ,military, money ,guards , cops and gangsters . Sad country with a too poor cultural and intellectual heritage .
I wouldn't call their incompetence amazing
This firefight and the lead up to it is Written in a book by John Ross 1985 "Unintended Consequences" wild and interesting. I was born 1964 . Grandpa was Infantry in Ww 2 . Wish my Grandpa could have been a School Teacher to Every kid in America .......
The acting in this series is really something else.
My deepest sympathy to the ones who lost their lives but why would you bring a knife to a gun fight
I agree they should always come in with tanks and heavy fire power .Then we could be just like China.
A long barreled rifle is just a rifle . It has more velocity than a( short barreled rifle) I.E. a pistol with stock , an is more effective at range. The government doesn't care about that. They just want you to submit to their power, which you can control if we stick bye the constitution of this great country.
There were several agents with M16s and MP5s on the highway that day, but the entire exchange took about 4 minutes and they didn't get there in time.
Simple, it is called Hubris.
lack of brain power by the officers following, or their commanders giving orders.
