Cleany thing = paint gun tip cleanerTip if you cant afford a compressor when first starting out, a large mounted car tire at regular pressure will run an airbrush quite a while. Then just go down to the gas station to refill when needed.
Good video overall. One thing I do differently is that I never pull the needle through the back of the brush because you always run a risk of pulling paint into the back end of the brush which is harder to clean. Once you have the cone tip off you can just push it through the front where you do the majority of your cleaning.
another thing I heard, was pulling the needle out the rear can damage the seals. no idea if it's true or not. my passche, I have always pulled the needles out through the rear and never had any problems whatsoever. I just picked up an iwata revo hp-cr today.
I found the Iwata lube always gummed up my airbrush after awhile even with very small amounts. I use the oil that’s made for barber clippers and no more issues.
You have the nozzle cap removal tool sitting right on the table. That same tool is used to remove the trigger air valve plunger assembly. It even holds onto the valve cover while you clean the plunger. No need to use separate pliers.
Thank you for the details in disassembly and reassembly. I use an airbrush for spraying cocoa butters into my chocolate molds and really needed the guidance. Your video assisted me in solving my issues! Cheers.
Oh yeah, I agree. I just mean, it's makes hem difficult to just use other camera angles after they realize one camera was bad. Should have just reshot the episode.
That’s so petty of you to say so, they go over and above to provide content- that is, without a doubt really decent. They’re only human and we make mistakes, have brain farts and stumble over lines. Show some compassion fuck sakes.
Hot water works great. Get enough boiling water and turn the stove off. Let the airbrush get a fully submerged hot bath without the niddle. Stir it frequently while the water cools down and see stuck paint flowing off the airbrush. Repeat it two or three times and you'r set. Taking apart and letting all parts have a bath separately works like a charm. I rescued my airbrush stuck with urethane with this trick (yeah don't ask why the fridge I used minwax's urethane). I found this more useful than using solvents many times before.
I've watched an other maintenance video and the guy showed a trick how to put back the last piece, the tiny nozzle part. First he put the needle in and slid it onto the needle, that held it back in place. Mine came with a small driver too.
Norm: "is there anything you should be worried about, any types of solvents you SHOULDN'T use" Pratinahat: "whatever types of paints you use you want to use the appropriate solvent" Yeah thanks Cpt Obvious, how about being more specific
There’s still a seal left in that airbrush . It’s not safe to put in solvent yet Air valve guide body has a seal on it And it’s still in the airbrush when you stated it’s good to soak in solvent . Thought I would let you know
So glad my Harder & Steinbeck brush has a much larger nozzle manifold. So much easier to handle, and not a tiny tiny part that's going to be lost if you so much as sneeze at it. :D
In videos like this, I would like to know if you are sponsored. Alot of iwata stuff, is it realy the things you like or just stuff you need to say to get paid?
You can get the dental one at the dollar tree as well. I kind of wish I had this video for when i first started using one for cake decorating. the pearl spray we use is a nightmare if someone uses it and lets it dry, completely gunking up the needle.
the air valve is probably best removed with an automotive tyre valve key ( cross shaped tool, has a fang like tube, this is the valve remover; also has two thread chasers, [internal and external] & a valve depressor), this is the safest way of removal, without damaging the valve or marring other parts.
why, because of talko-too-muchi? What's wrong with that, why I recall a time way back in the day! When we didn't even HAVE airbrush lube. AND the seals weren't made o' no fancy Buna rubber No! They were made from MANLY seals like LEATHER/PLEATHER/and even TLEATHER (Leather from giant turtles!) And WE Didn't worry about no fancy ---
The little tippy thing with one end smaller on it I can’t seem to get back into the tube and I’m worried I broke one of the tiny things holding it on to the stick, what do you suggest I do? Or how do I get it back in as it’s bigger than the width of the tube
It is really amazing that Frank has been able to present himself as an "expert" of anything to do with this hobby, and actually con his way through the industry. It is really tough to listen to him struggle with his stupid babble
Metal cleaning brushes and demonstrating the use of pliers for beginners, really? And only once a year? You must be joking. Cleaning the valve at this stage for beginners isn’t appropriate. With most new users they’ll end up wreaking their airbrush. And this is supposed to be a cleaning airbrush video not a compressor review. Also, the Iwata cleaning kit is not needed and is expensive for some people. There’s far better how to clean airbrush videos out their :(
+Henrik Thuresson If you're spraying car paint you might also think about using a bigger paint brush... and using a more aggressive solvent than mere alcohol. Though those universal solvents are sensitising and generally quite unhealthy so I can understand why a hobbyist wouldn't want to use them.
Don't waste your money, the only things usable in that kit are the cleaning fluid and the magnifier, a box of over priced crap basically, if you have an iwata the nozzle remover is also useful but overall: "naaah", not worth it!!!
Booo... you didn’t take apart the front entirely! I compared my two siphon-feed Iwatas trying to figure out why one want spraying properly - its a misaligned air hole in the front … but I can’t figure out how to rotate it. The rotation is different on both. On the one that works well a fine brush goes halfway through both holes and stops. On the dodgy one one hole it goes halfway and stops - on the other hole the brush goes all the way in! I’m returning these …
I strip down and clean mine after each use. Why wouldnt you? If i did it once a year i would need a new airbrush. Use these vids as entertainment rather than instructional.
boy if you are only taking that thing apart once a year you aren't doing shit for airbrushing. I take mine apart like that ever other day sometimes every day depending on what I am using my airbrush for. You must have a real dirty airbrush my friend. what is silicone paint? I have never heard of it. thingy huh??...what is the name of that thingy? Like the comment below... are you guys a tech channel?? 20 years of airbrushing...........

I would definitely back the needle out before I started playing with the front of it
Come on Tested. You are a tech channel. And these production errors happen a lot lately :(
+Katojana Aleksielsis Because they don't edit. They shoot it all live switching between cameras as they go.
Pablo Yes but they do preparation before they shoot. and I expect a little standard, especially for tech chanels.
Oh yeah, I agree. I just mean, it's makes hem difficult to just use other camera angles after they realize one camera was bad. Should have just reshot the episode.

Frank always does awesome videos!
This was a lot of help. I looked at multiple videos, but came back to this one, because the instructions made sense.
Whats with the funky laggy video?
+LuNzIcE Yeah I thought it was just my end. Seems to be only on the wide shot though, bizarre..
+Alex Varney The wide camera may not have been set to the correct format before feeding into their Tricaster.
I'm glad you said that. I thought it was my eyes playing up.
I thought there was something wrong with my phone

So I took mine apart and then fucked it up and could not put it back together for like 3 hrs . This video saved me lmao thank you 🙏🏻
I noticed a pattern in the choppiness, it only happens on the zoomed out camera, the close in one is just fine.
I've watched an other maintenance video and the guy showed a trick how to put back the last piece, the tiny nozzle part. First he put the needle in and slid it onto the needle, that held it back in place. Mine came with a small driver too.
"Adam and Jamie" lol
Thanks for the help! Airbrush is working perfectly now. 👍👍
lol norm that reference made my day :D
That Blue Falcon shirt is great
1:57 Those are great for teeth. 😂
Very helpful! I just purchased the same airbrush, so this video is perfect for me! Thank you!
Norm: "is there anything you should be worried about, any types of solvents you SHOULDN'T use"
Pratinahat: "whatever types of paints you use you want to use the appropriate solvent"
Yeah thanks Cpt Obvious, how about being more specific
I would love the proper names for all of the stuff shown so I can find them on amazon.
Search "cleany things". I'm sure a lot of things will come up. :_
You just need an airbrush pipe cleaner and cotton buds the rests over kill.
Try searching for straw cleaning brush :)
Very good for a beginner that never paint with it. One question:"Do we best always use alchol=isopropyl to clean it?".Thanks
There’s still a seal left in that airbrush .
It’s not safe to put in solvent yet
Air valve guide body has a seal on it
And it’s still in the airbrush when you stated it’s good to soak in solvent .
Thought I would let you know
Perfect! thank you, now i know where all the o-rings go.
So glad my Harder & Steinbeck brush has a much larger nozzle manifold.

24fps is more cinematic, guys!!
not even close to 24

amazing video (great tips) but such bad quality for 1080p (quite a bit of blurines all over the video)
I really think i would have preferred this as a 5 minute quick how to video rather than a 20 minute interview style instructional.
why, because of talko-too-muchi? What's wrong with that, why I recall a time way back in the day! When we didn't even HAVE airbrush lube. AND the seals weren't made o' no fancy Buna rubber No! Was that a cheeky little 'Full Metal Jacket' reference at the end? :)

The needle chucking guide
Well done, fellows! 3 cheers for Iwata!
It is really amazing that Frank has been able to present himself as an "expert" of anything to do with this hobby, and actually con his way through the industry. It is really tough to listen to him struggle with his stupid babble
R.I.P., Iwata
Good thank you
Perfect! Just what i needed! Thank you very much :)
"I don't remember what the cleany things are called"
the box is right next to your arm! Pick it up and look at the contents description!
Can you. Make video on how to apply chrome paint on plastic?
That dentec brush is meant for cleaning between your braces if you have them

They are called spooleys
where did you buy everything that in the video u use to clean the airbrush
Airbrush store.
Thanks,i cant assembled,when saw i can,thanks❤
I don't see why Norm needed to be there
+Shill He must take a salary and they wanted to make him appear for his paycheck lol
I'm from 2 years in the future. I can confirm Norm is still trash.
why don't they just let frank do it himself, I mean the other dude is just annoying as hell.
Would you call those "little cleaning things" bottle brushes?
If you use car paint or equal then you should disassemble it completely after every usage.
+Henrik Thuresson If you're spraying car paint you might also think about using a bigger paint brush... and using a more aggressive solvent than mere alcohol. Though those universal solvents are sensitising and generally quite unhealthy so I can understand why a hobbyist wouldn't want to use them.
Dat frame rate tho. Geez, what happened to your camera?
Can I buy that iwata cleaning kit for a badger 150 air brush
Don't waste your money, the only things usable in that kit are the cleaning fluid and the magnifier, a box of over priced crap basically, if you have an iwata the nozzle remover is also useful but overall: "naaah", not worth it!!!
lol i use the same dental tools to clean my airbrush.
the cleany thing is a pipe cleaner also....
rip front cam.
Valve core remover
Camera guy kind of dropped the ball on the old close ups .🤪
The frame rate is low on the wide coverage.
I take off the chuck and needle won’t come off
will left..... shit starts goin down hill...
I have a airbrush never worked right
"needles pretty protected cause it got that little cone on there"... just rammed a q tip in there and aggressively cleaned 🤔
Booo... you didn’t take apart the front entirely! This is one of those "WTF??? " videos...
A bit more closeup views so we can see what you are doing.
You should just throw away the backflush and not run it through the needle again.
Since you are OK with not having any quality control I am OK with not paying for your premium service
Oh god the frame rate.
I strip down and clean mine after each use. Why wouldnt you? If i did it once a year i would need a new airbrush. Use these vids as entertainment rather than instructional.
a valve remover for a bike
a kitchen table for a man
i strip all my iwatas more than once a year
pipe cleaners?
Wow that fare rate tho couldn't even watch
Wow the frame rate on this video is fucked
Frank needs to be kept away from airbrushes and trained to speak properly
10 fps?
Rip iwata ;(
The lip sync on this animation is impressive
boy if you are only taking that thing apart once a year you aren't doing shit for airbrushing. Do a Gundam
This video has frame rate issues
Wire brush
The airbrush KILLER! 🤣
dentech is for braces kek
is it just me or is the video running at like 19 fps
+Elclid it's like only the wide shot but the close up is fine
Hi what is alcohol mean in Chinese word ? since one of you is Chinese , think you can answer it , tks :)
at first the quality of content went down dramaticly and now the video quality as well? sry... but that's it for me. no more tested. good buy.
laggy video
Pulls needle put the back ? .. First school boy error
Bottle brushes.
This looks awful :// Its distracting me from the content

Unwatchable
