  • Stage 2 audio upgrade - DB Drive WDX active subwoofer - HGT Y62 Patrol Build!
After changing out the factory speakers in our y62 patrol it rekindled my love for good sound quality and the patrol was definitely lacking some bass!
So ii decided to try out an active subwoofer. Or better known as a slimline under seat subwoofer. I quickly realised that this was never going to fit under any of the seats so I accepted the fact that it would have to go in the back and ordered one.
The active subwoofer has been around for years now and there are heaps of different brands and options. Ranging in size, price and of course quality.
We decided to go with a DB Drive WDX 10” active subwoofer. It has reasonable power. Its good quality. But most important it was the slimmest one I could find. At under 7cm thick.
I didn’t want to put it under the false floor for a few reasons. Mainly because I thought it’d rattle and vibrate everything to death. So pre-empting this I decided to remove the floor and foam tape all the hard surfaces. This actually worked surprisingly well and we have no new vibration or rattles.
Wiring is pretty straight forward. You will need an amplifier wiring kit but this will include everything you need. Because I am installing to a factory head unit there are no RCA out puts so I opted to use the high level input on the amp. Grafting into the rear speakers for signal.
The DB drive active sub definitely does add a little bass to the y62 but it’s not hard hitting like a full size 10” subwoofer in a box. This is more of a subtle hint to sharpen up the sound quality and compliments the Alpine type S speaker upgrade nicely.
Compared to where the patrol was audio wise factory these upgrades are worlds apart. But I believe I can do better so watch this space. Stage 2.2 is already ordered and on the way! Yes I am redoing this but with a different idea, hopefully more hard hitting bass is incoming.

Nice, maybe two underseat woofers would sound better?

Another good video mate, we’ll done!
I’m assuming you got the polarity right on the lever input, you’d know if you didn’t haha

Nice video! I have a big Eurovan and the sound system is so bass empty. I was thinking about getting this- my place has one for sale and he said with installation 300 bucks. You think it’s worth it. I just need sone bass for rock stuff nothing special but I don’t want to waste 300 either. What are you thoughts? Thanks or anybody else??

I found it just wasn’t quite enough punch for what I was chasing. In my sons small hatch it is ok. But it wasn’t enough for this big space

@@HappyGoTravel sorry, last question. But did you think it was decent quality for what it is or was it just cheap and a waste of money? I can’t find much on this brand.
