I miss my mom…we’re Filipino’s but she use to believe in Chinese feng chui…every new year she would decorate the house lavishly and have 13 round fruits on the table and all that stuff. I remember she would give us red envelopes with money inside as well. And the gold chocolate coin was always a fave of mine..Everything was better when she was around. New year now just isnt the same without her. 😢
Since I didn't have the chance to know my grandma but I was still raised mostly around Polish-American culture, to feel closer to her since watching your videos I started to joke to my mom that I measure with my Polish eyeballs. She doesn't get it yet... but she will! I should send her more and more of your videos because they always make me smile.
I just had my mother pass away prior to Christmas last year and something I find most upsetting is have yet to start my own family and otherwise my moms grandchildren will not be with her as they grow up. Reading your comment brought a tear to my eye considering your experience growing up without your grandmother. Thank you for sharing and it leaves me happy knowing my children can look forward to a similar experience.
Her daughter referred to the pickles as "non-American pickles". Yes, there is a myth that nomadic people are getting big muscles by living off of the land. Oh shit where's the ☕. THEY *ARE AMERICAN PICKLES* IF YOU MAKE THEM IN AMERICA. YOU ARE DOING A GREAT JOB "OF COLONIZING" IN AMERICA BY MAKING GOOD PICKLES. Your daughter needs to know.
the part where the mum called her daughter to help at the kitchen, thats a very important aspect of Asian culture. Thats how recipes are passed from a generation to the next.
Yeah every culture do this, I’m African and my mom did the same. Not that I listened though 🥲. Now I regret it because I eat shitty processed Americans food. My moms cooking is so much better 😭. 21 and still can’t cook 👩🍳

I was the same as your kids with speaking my mom’s language, korean. I wish I wasn’t such a punk. Knowing two languages is an amazing life skill to have.
Beautiful family! it is nice to see families celebrating their culture. It is also nice to see you pass on your culture and traditions to the younger generation. It is important for the young generation to not forget who they and where they come from. Thank you for sharing.
Happy Chinese New Year! Your spread was beautiful. My husband is Chinese and this is my second year celebrating… I love our traditions with the kids and all our family. ❤
Pork slices ideal dipping sauce choices 1. Japanese bottled sukiyaki chilli sauce 2. Ginger mince, Green Onion (chopped) with light soy sauce or salt with hot fried garlic oil. Don't use chilli powder
I was kind of bummed at your husband's reaction about the rice! "I made the buns", but you made everything else! Rice is still not something I've mastered myself.
Happy Lunar New Year, May the year of the rabbit brings joy, peace and calmful and longevity too! Be good stay out of troubles and forget about the past.
my who family watches your videos. Once me and my cousin were going through my playlists. I was like, I like Chinese food. And then she was like, even I watch a Chinese vlogger. And then she said “hello, hellooo”. And I started laughing in surprise and she also started laughing. We all watch ur videos actually. But never knew it.
Thank you cookingbomb. I have asian bloodline. I don't have anyone to teach me about LNY. This video was very helpful and full of info. I would like to see more of this as I'm learning all on my own
I celebrated with my friend daong and her family once many years ago she cooked a similar dinner and her children taught me how to do this fun red scarf dance it was a blast. Happy new year!
I found out when I was working in China that not all Chinese families have the same CNY dinner. Those Northern Chinese CNY dinner dishes is so different than those Southern Chinese and some Chinese co-workers that belong to certain dialect group celebrate their CNY 15 days later.
Happy Chinese new year to u and your family may God fulfill your family and your wishes and blessings may u live happily with your family and yay you're food always so delicious and so beautiful ❤️ love yay >333
I think most kids that are from immigrant parents are going to slowly forget how to speak their parent's native language just because they don't speak it often enough. Growing up me and my siblings have to speak Chinese and we were watching Chinese tv even though we were in America. There were many instances where we had to translate to our parents in Chinese what the mail or document says.
She is indeed getting better. That's the good thing about kept on learning. I don't speak mandarin chinese. And iam not a fluent english speaker. But, iam trying to understand and embrace the method of loving to learn new things of the world to offer. And i like watching her vlog. New step for food and funny ways she is doing in the video. :-D
My family always cooks pork stomach soup for new years. I also remember that we would also get money on our birthdays or in Christmas. We call the red envelopes ang bao or fung bao
It’s amazing how you cooked all of that and still manage to film you make it seems so effortless, if i was you I’ll be stressed and looked like a mess.
Is your husband served restaurant-style Chinese dishes everyday and he's no longer excited at dinner time? Rice can be ready in less than one hour. Start dinner first!!! You're an amazing cook and mom. And wife! Happy New Year.
My rice is ready in 12 minutes. I use a microwave rice cooker using the absorption method. Not everyone would think cooking rice in the microwave is OK, but our family has being doing it this way for years. All other Chinese (Cantonese style) food is cooked traditionally.
I believe all home style cooking has a lot of chopping in it not just Chinese and a lot of spices also fresh spices well true American & Mexican in my case ❤
I wanted to start my Sister’s kid early by make the child watched me cook. Sadly we have the parents & I not getting along. We part way. Her kids lost contacted with me. I am thought by professional my Father through just watching & eating. I created my own that are very good. I just used others recipes & make very tasty. I took out what should not be in & fused them with what are right.
For those who love soup. Best invest in electric auto soup steamer. Why I say so because gas fire boil soup over the stove for over 2 hours is very2 expensive vs electric auto timer steam soup taste better.
GONG XI FA CAI, HONG BAO NA LAI 🧧 🎇 I used to take Mandarin in 4th and 5th grade. I also won an award for Mandarin student of the year in 5th grade because I could read the best in my class. Honestly as i Chinese person myself, I've never had any of those dishes for Chinese New Year Eve at all. I guess every family has their own traditions, also depends in what Chinese province you where born and raised. Each province has their own culture too. Meals look good though.
I’m Vietnamese and i went to Vietnam to celebrate the new year and I would feel insecure that I don’t look Asian because in my point of view when I look in the mirror I would look like Indian and would get called name in school saying I’m Indian
i remember in 2020, you said you struggle with english sometimes but you gained so much confidence with speaking❤ happy chinese new year
Been in US for 10 years, but I am still struggling with the English, being laughed at poor English many times

I think all human cultures mothers are supposed to pass on to daughters "how to cook", or family secret recipes.
