ROBERT is smooth and even better with age it seems. I am grateful that I got to see him LIVE in 1988!! He is one of those well cultured, very astute and I love listening to him speak in various interviews, no B.S. but he seemed Honest and interesting with what he shared. I also enjoy his accounts about hanging with his buddies from Duran Duran and Chic. He and the black lady that was singing with him live looked so great together, what a powerful-performance! I wish I could have made many more shows of Robert Palmers' . Hey! If you haven't seen James Brown and Robert on stage together look that one up on this platform as well. James Brown had some 'Props' for Robert too. Very Cool Stuff.
Thanks for uploading this gem which I saw on the television at the time it went out on network Television. That’s Branford Marsalis on sax by the way. R. I. P. Robert Palmer.
That high note of his is sublime. He peaked and left us gasping for more. Incredible talent. He sings this perfectly. Someone hurry up and invent a time machine already!
This version is even better than the studio release, which is saying something. Robert put a ton of arranging into this gem, a song with tempo and pitch twists most vocalists will not convincingly pull off.
Sounds like a challenge to sing professionally. I prefer the studio version ALL THE WAY including the video where he smiles jovially. They take me to a wonderful place almost blissfully like a paradise.💖 But everyone has their own preference. _You ought to know_ [that] _by now._ 😜
This was back when Branford Marsalis was leading the Tonight Show Band, which he wasn't really into and eventually quit. But Branford's soprano sax lines sound quite nice here.
very good, very handsome, very classy. I wonder who he knew maybe Lennon or Jagger, Paul McCartney. He was from England but lived in the Bahama's died in Switzerland. Which is a must for every American to see Europe . The alps are amazing.GOD BLESS YOU ROBERT
I love this song more each time I hear it! Robert is as handsome as ever, which never hurts. and why don't men wear suits anymore? okay so they prob won't look like Robert Palmer but a bit of classic polish goes a long way. ah well, Robert is still the man...
A unique soft voice and of course lyrics for a gal to die for. A most lovely instrumental solo within this adds to its beautiful full band sound. Amazing. I also hate certain versions of this tune blocked. All about the almighty dollar. These artists need to be shared and LOVED. What a gift. :-) Thanks to my Angel Warrior for sharing.
I LOVE IT!!! Jay asks ROBERT What type of woman he likes and as Jay says 'Husky' and laughs, ROBERT says Voluptuous women, Robert has such style. Jay makes a Joke about it [which is his job] but Robert, makes it sound romantic and enthralling.
I grew up loving Robert Palmer, with Sting as a close second. So seeing Palmer sing with Branford Marsallis is a really cool blend of my favorite artists.
I wish I knew about Know By Now at the time this song is still so good, I'd have bought Honey. Everything up to and including Pride is what I love. Robert is still the best singer who looks this cool doing it, if not just the best singer!
zosia5127 Love your take on Robert's lyricks. Your very pretty and I'm sure you'll develop into a very elegant lady. Today is my birthday I'm 61 wishing I was 21 and I'd search the world to find you. Be happy and enjoy each day that comes. I'll add you to my prayers. God's Speed MARLON
Can I be reborn to the time where he is still with us? Or be able to time travel and bring all of my money with me then use it to buy tickets to all Robert Palmer performance?
@Rodney Dale Moriles If you find a way to time travel and take your money with you, would you share it with the rest of us? I know from watching Robert Palmer’s videos and reading all the comments that there are a LOT of people who feel the way we do. What wouldn’t I give to have seen him perform just once? Anything but my children!!! Oh, and my very best friends who have four legs each and bark occasionally!!!
some lyric:Baby when our hearts awoke Think of all the rules we broke In the name of love we hoped Little did we know Darling all the time we spent Ignoring all the consequences And hiding from big evidence Hoping things would change But the yearning grew like the loneliness of a castaway To be near to you was the only thing in my heart each day Keeping me alive till your rescue came............................
I’ve always loved this song! This is definitely a great version, Robert sings if perfectly. I still love the studio version which I listen to multiple times a week! Is there more than one studio version? Just wondering…
It's very annoying that this song is not available on iTunes here in the US. Plus the studio version uploads are blocked on RUclips. I need to go look for the actual CD which I had back in the 90s.
@utubefanforever Yes, it's nice to imagine if Robert was with us still and he and I chanced to pass on the street, I'd get a second glance and perhaps a smile... web site alert! Go to robert palmer dot com Sign the guest book. Close your eyes and isten to a great radio interview. In the section In his own words.
Great singer and great song, but the tonight show band did no justice to this song. The backing instruments sounded tinny and soft jazz muzak-ish - especially the clarinet. . Robert was a trooper. He did the song as best as he could with what he had to work with. RIP
Robert doesn't fit in on Leno humor..he's on a dif level...listen to his lyrics..the show and back up females had nothing to do with Robert .he just flew in to to sing the song .and bling there they were..saw him say it in another interview..
What a Talent What Class !! He's THE MAN, the JAMES BOND of MUSIC !! RIP BROTHER !!

People, People! It's called changing things up. & yes the tempo was more up beat. But nice for a fresh approach in a live performance...OKAY???!! : )
Hard to choose, but I think Honey was Robert’s best album overall.
I agree. it was an amazing album. one of my all time favourite albums.
and one of his least promoted and publicised, unfortunately.
here here and this song is his masterpiece
timothy evans This was Robert Palmer’s favorite. Personally, I like True Love more. Let’s face it...he did something for everyone!
