  • Mt. Jefferson via the Caps Ridge Trail.
    Elevation gain: 2,687 ft.
    Distance: 4.3 Miles
I did this hike with my 3 friends Bobby, Mike, and Joe. This was their first hike in the white mountains, a big step up from hikes in CT, and although there was some apprehension we all made it to the summit and had a great experience.
The Caps Ridge Trailhead, located on Jefferson Notch Road, is the highest trailhead in the White Mountains. Starting hikers at 3,008 ft, just below the alpine zone, the trail is a great bang for your buck. The trail takes you over 3 prominent rock features, called the "caps", which offer some more challenging terrain. There is also a "false summit" after the 3rd cap, where it appears that the summit is up ahead, when the real summit is in fact hidden behind this false summit. Hikers may think they are finally reaching the top, only to realize that they have another climb ahead of them. The summit offers great views, situated with good sights on both Mt. Washington and Mt. Adams. Hikers looking for a bit more at the top have the option to take the Mount Jefferson Loop Trail and the Gulfside Trail to enjoy the alpine grasses surrounding the summit before heading back down. You can also use this hike to easily access the rest of the presidential range alpine zone, hiking either toward Washington or Adams on the Gulfside Trail.

Great video! Very clear and organized with exactly the right kinds of shots of each of the caps. Thank you! If you have more similar videos of the Whites, please do post!
