Dude. Insane peak bag. When I was growing up in Helena MT in the 70s and 80s, a family friend of my parents invited me to three consecutive Granite Peak attempts (1977, 1978, 1979). I was 13 the first year. That family friend was a Ret. Lt. Col. USARMY Special Forces, one of the first five SF Officers sent to Vietnam (before the US was officially involved). We never bagged it (time of day 1x, weather 2x). That trail you did from Mystic Lake is the exact trail we used on two attempts. I remember year one us sleeping on a big table rock as we were headed up, and counting 300+ meteors during a meteor shower. Those trips were my first introductions to glissading, roping up, big boulder hops, and my first official "beer with men as a man" (a can of Coors left in a little pipe under the trail below the dam). This mountain looms in my past, nagging and teasing me to "come try again". Thanks for the great adventure.
I'm 65 years old. Have been hiking and climbing mountains my entire life. You and your friends bring it to a level I've never seen or experienced before ... unbelievable what you guys can do! Respect!
Took me 6 days to do it. I am in awe of this accomplishment. I subscribed and I'm binge watching your amazing achievements. I remember, I was glad I had my ski goggles hiking into the west wind on Froze to death plateau for a full day.
Man I’d love to be like you. I’m from Alaska and used to working outdoors, but in recent years I’ve become a father to two kids, work full time and yadda yadda... I always say I’ll “get back into shape” and then I lose motivation. Then i see videos like this and that all changes. And the cycle continues. I suppose one day I’ll have to make the choice to watch these types of videos from the couch, or go bite the bullet and see them for myself. Great video. Thank you.
That is a very impressive time you did it in. I've made one attempt on the route you took and DID run into a grizzly right where you are at at the 3:40 mark haha. It was standing and it was pitch black out (4am). I luckily looked up in time when I came around a corner to beam it from about 20 yards away and it was right on the trail! Everything was silent, the wind in my face luckily... it didn't move and I backed off. Gave it another go about an hour later when another climber reached me on the trail and it had left by that point. This happened in Sept 2019.
My goodness! Blows my mind hiking, in the dark, solo, in grizz country, Plus, considering you heard of 25 hrs to complete, your placement of camera ahead and behind and having to backtrack and pick it up must add time but so glad you did for a fantastic journey shared!
You guys are making my "to do list" longer. I am definitely adding this one! Just finished Mount Rainier (Washington state) last weekend and it was amazing.
How amazingly beautiful! And I chuckled at you discovering your shirt was inside out. I hiked for 6 hours in Colorado last week before I realized my shirt was inside out 😁!
I do a bit of solo meandering up in the Winds and parts of Utah. Love your commentary, the extra time you take to get great video and your whole light and fast approach. Truly epic accomplishments and can’t wait to see more. Thanks for sharing.
These videos are so entertaining, informative and inspiring. I'm going to up my mileage in your honor! I'm running Santa Fe ski hill next week, a paltry 13M with 1M elevation, nothing compared to what you do back to back.
Such an inspiration. You are fearless. You provide a stellar adventure every time and leave the rest of us wishing we could be as incredible as Dan the Man. Keep up the good work!
I'm really digging your channel. I grew up in SLC, lived in southern Idaho and am now in Portland. The point is I can really relate to your content! Keep it up
Dude! Your videos have given me the inspiration to get back into BC skiing and climbing after many years off. I did more BC skiing in the Truckee area this year than I did in all prior years combined. Now it's time to get some summit hikes in - in between dirt bike rides and fly fishing.
Been there done that is my second state High Point behind Texas Witch is nothing glad you enjoyed yourself in Montana it is the best state I live there now last 12 years after living in New Mexico amazing place to be
Props to that time! We ran up Mt. St. Helens in under three hours when they told us to budget six hours for the hike. And I was completely ill prepared for the mountains whilw wearing a t-shirt and jeans with hiking boots. That is what got me into mountain climbing. And that was a couple weeks before she blew again in July of 2004 and they closed the trail until 2007. Those Cascade Mountain peaks have a special place but completely different type of climbing than here in Idaho. Now I need to climb all the peaks in the Lemhi and Lost River Ranges.
Amazing! You are so strong and in such great shape. Wish I was that strong. You had to even go back to get your camera so many times so you could film yourself. Only thing is, I would have loved to enjoy the wonderful scenery more by taking longer, but that’s just me. Your caution about grizzlies is wise. Thanks for sharing.
You and your crew absolutely crush it. Absolutely the best "amateur" adventure videos on youtube. You deserve serious sponsorship if you don't already have it. Excellent cinematography.
That's like an average speed of 2.5 miles an hour did you breathe at all ? I hiked that trail in 1981, it was tough on a 16 year old. I made it to the top in 14 hours camped out came out the next day. I thought I was fast, Good Gawd your cardio must be insane !!
You should check out the Cabinet Wilderness in Northwest Montana. There is a trail that goes from one end to the other. I think it is over 50 miles but you would be looking down on at least 50 different lakes along the way. Also you look like you are part Mountain Goat. I am highly impressed with your level of fitness.
It does look very Scottish, and we would know :) Love your videos pal, they are bringing me all kinds of joy during these weird and difficult times, thank you!
Gannett Peak in WY is actually the 2nd hardest high point behind Denali. Mostly due to the need for snow travel and the berg you have to traverse. I haven't seen all of your videos, so you've probably already done it by now and know what I'm talking about. This is a great video though. Planning to do Granite Peak next year.
Amazing that you made it up and back in that short a time!!!.. I don`t think there is a griz that can catch you. Your level of fitness is waaaay up there!.
Whoa, whoa, whoa...that was ridiculous. Bravo. Here's a trip for you: Day trip Darton Peak from Circle Park trailhead in Wyoming's Cloud Peak wilderness. No grizzlies, no climbing gear, but MUCH bigger boulders....for miles. I'd pay to see that video!
I just discovered you and this channel and will certainly binge watch. I am curious if you can share some of the key equipment you use or take with you on climbs like this. I did King’s Peak in Utah in a day last year and it was fun but brutal. Hoping I can refine my gear and energy plans for future climbs.
I's say Mt Rainier is the second most difficult state high point due to the technicalities and huge elevation change considering most people spend time at sea level right before driving up to the starting point. People die on it nearly every year. Thanks for the photo shots! Going there in a few days.

Bells are actually useless in bear country.
