    Cool playthrough, but my Cousland does a few things different. He skips the short guard joke and just says "Let's go" to show he understands Anora's disguise immediately and is serious about getting her out of there. Also, if you take Alistair with you and you allow yourselves to be captured, Anora will exclude Alistair when asking how best to free "him", to which Eamon corrects her saying surely she means THEM since they need Alistair too. TO which she will nervously reply that yes, of course she meant Alistair too. I know it's the same regardless of who the Warden is, but it's fun to think of this as Anora already being smitten with the Cousland and only thinking about his safe return.
    Later, I think winning the Landsmeet without Anora's added help is better in establishing yourself as equal to or better than her in terms of swaying the banns. And referring to her as queen shows her that you honestly see her as queen material already.
    Allowing her to kill Alistair is a beta move though. Better to put your foot down and show her you're not a consort but a regnant king, regardless of her pretending otherwise.
    When Anora asks if you're still interested, the better option is number 4, "Could I get out of it if I wasn't?". Not only does it get a laugh out of Anora, it shows you are still interested and also that there is no getting out of it short of death. It's a done deal, since it was the agreed upon outcome at the Landsmeet, and the Bannorn expects this to be carried out since they elected your both as monarchs.
    While it may not be the best outcome for Anora, allowing Loghain to make the ultimate sacrifice provides an opportunity to bond with her at the coronation ceremony by telling her that her father redeemed himself. Also, saying that you're a little nervous puts her at ease since she knows you both feel the same.

    Honestly the part with Alistair is bullshit let's be real. Riordan's offer is basically nullified by Alistair getting executed and Anora being so quick to do it honestly makes me see the Landsmeet is rushed. Loghain surviving as a Warden is one of the biggest twist choices Origins had but it would've been better off without the option

    • @zachrobinson6801
      @zachrobinson6801 2 года назад +5

      No it doesn’t. Because Alistair is a threat to her rule regardless this is scene in both game and in historical context. The loser either gets banished or more commonly executed. However, Riordan not telling you why Wardens are needed is stupid but then again he tells you later that he thought you knew.

    • @roberthighsmith3192
      @roberthighsmith3192 2 года назад +26

      @@zachrobinson6801 it's not so much her wanting to execute him that's the issue, it's the context of the whole scenario.
      WE know Loghain will survive the Joining, but the characters don't. Riordan throwing the suggestion out there and then just sitting there silently as Anora executes Alistair just doesn't make sense. If Loghain would have died then that would've been it. You're down to 2 Wardens again.
      Maybe with a bit more content invested into the Landsmeet it would've been fine, but the moment Loghain is defeated to the return to Redcliffe for the "calm before the storm" rest just happens too quickly.

    • @BelieveIt1051
      @BelieveIt1051 2 года назад

      @@roberthighsmith3192 It's the duty that cannot be forsworn, dude. But I think drunk Alistair is best. As for making Loghain a Warden, or not knowing if he would survive or not, maybe Riordan was trying to save Alistair and the other Warden from having to make the ultimate sacrifice. Having Loghain as backup in case he fails would allow the others to live. In truth, the main issue with the Joining is that Riordan doesn't find about ten other recruits as well.

    • @roberthighsmith3192
      @roberthighsmith3192 2 года назад +8

      @@BelieveIt1051 I'm not sure what you're referring to in the first sentence. You talking about Alistair leaving?
      Anyhow that's what I'm saying though on Loghain's joining. You make a good point on Riordan's decision, but ultimately are also correct that the lack of any other recruits is off. It leans more in favor of Loghain having the option removed over not, because it ultimately does something and yet nothing.
      Alistair is removed from the party, so you don't gain a new sword-n-board. You're at the end of the game, so really there's no quests to take him on besides perhaps a few side quests or DLC. This makes it so you get no real insight into Loghain or any compelling reason to even do it content wise beyond the novelty of the "twist" (or if you just don't like Alistair, but that's the least compelling reason for the twist to exist since it's down to individual tastes).
      All in all, I wouldn't mind the twist in a more accommodating context. It's just that the choice is hollow as it is, done for the *le gasp* moment more than it is for real drama (or at the least it deserved more work put into it).

    I prefer the variant in which Alistair gets exiled. Killing him is too much, considering his contribution to the fight against the blight, but exile serves him right, considering his stance at the landsmeet and his childish reluctance to accept what's best for Ferelden. The landsmeet is all about striking the best deal possible, it's about politics, and Alistair acts immature, brings his emotions above his wits while Cousland is mature and smart enough to seize the opportunity that is best for grey wardens, his family name and Ferelden. Alistair was a cool companion, no hard feelings towards him. Noone pushed him to betray the wardens and leave Ferelden, he made the choice himself because he was too emotionally unstable to accept the reality and drop the past in which his thoughts linger.
