Chopins music has many
possibilities
That is why it is great in human history
Pogorelich seems to have recovered more from his arthritis seeing that a lot of his old technique has come back. I'm glad to see it!
I am usually the one defending IP, but this one doesn't really convince me.
@@TheSoteriologist I have heard Pogo's playing of other Chopin pieces during this recital and would not be surprised if he is on some mood stabilizng medication. Considering the sufferings that he he has had to live with I take this (assumed) fact into account. I'm just glad that he is still able to make a living as a concert piannist.
@@excelsior999 As regards his 2022 Chopin album release, for instance, I am a total fan of it, in fact only a genius could have played some of it this way. It's on IP topic here.
@@TheSoteriologist I listened to some of his performances in this album. I find them lugubrious. For us who are fortunate not to find sadness in music, not even in the 2nd Sonata's funeral march, the music of Chopin is a source of joy. So should be the Larghetto in the 2nd piano Concerto, but Ivo plays it with a very negative mannerism.
@@Ernesto7608 I don't find that to be true. I also think that it is this champagne-Chopin concept that IP was playing against, since _there indeed is_ a darker side not only to Chopin, but to his music. If IP can find his interpretation in the literature, perhaps it is a hidden, true-er Chopin that upper class party goers just didn't want to hear. And I love it ! In fact, since hearing IP's take on Chopin, there aren't many Chopin interpretations that even keep my attention anymore, not even Argerich.
And please drop the this kind of use of the word "negative", it is a bit obtuse and doesn't quite gel with words such as "lugubrious". Would you really want to be hiv positive ? All the best !
A rather enjoyable recital! Beautifully played!

do you have a link to the interview?
The inner voice and accompaniment speak beautifully along the melody.
His interpretation is innovative
0:07 1. Allegro Maestro
12:12 2. Scherzo (Molto Vivace)
16:05 3. Largo
28:16 4. Finale. (Presto Non Tanto)
Truly wonderful! It’s a great pity there are not so many video recordings of current Maestro’s playing.
Less eccentric than his other performances of recent vintage (i.e. the past 25 years or so!). It basically falls within the realm of "normal" interpretive choices, though with quite a bit of freedom. The long, drawn-out phrasing isn't unsuited to the lyricism of the piece. Also, not "texturally tortured", as his performances can be when he is at his most eccentric.
FYI, it's a big, "circle in the round"-type stage, and a very reverberant hall, of a dimension more suitable to orchestral concerts, so that explains much of the acoustical quality of the recording. I've recorded concerts on my phone in this hall too, and have heard Pogorelich play there before - though I can't remember if I recorded the Pogorelich concert I heard there or not. ;-)

❤❤this sonata is a "living entity" on the Buddhic plane sphere of our planetary scheme, known as the Cosmic Physical Plane. This composition, being a living entity, separate from Chopins creation on paper, or the myriads of pianists varied interpretations over a 100 year history, or even what we consider IPs interpretation of the Sonata at any given point in his career, has a MUSICAL LIFE OF ITS OWN. This musical entity on its own Buddhic Plane, inspires a performing artist to perceive its own spirit as it chooses. Only a rare few pianists can grasp, capture and hear this Musical Entity called the Chopin Sonata #3 actually as it is on the zBuddhic Plane.
Rarely, if ever, can humans recognize this musical entity and allow this entity to speak its musical thoughts via the artistry of a very gifted performer.
❤❤❤❤
How is this playing of the opening of the first movement even remotely Allegro maestoso? This is such a mis-reading of Chopin's instructions and obvious intent.
Lowi komentari da se izbriwat od mojov tel.bez razlika koj gi napiwal
Really muddy sound in the presto.
what i hear here ,and in Pogorelich interpretations in general, is a pianist with an overwhelming Ego and a focus on artificially new musical ideas which he wants to be declared as the one of a Genius .I doubt that very much and i prefer modest interpretaions of anybody to enjoy Chopin's music...As the great teacher Heinrich Neuhaus said about the three most necessary qualities of a great artist: modesty, modesty and modesty...cant find this here...
Then you missed even the most basic.

If I had attended this performance, I would have asked for my money back. Chopin's music lends itself to healthy emotions. I had always found Ivo's playing intelligently odd. But I would not equate oddity with "genius". His latest playing is like an invitation to suicide.
??????? Idiotic statement!
His new performances make me question how much I love his scherzos
His playing used to be uneven. Now he plays everything equally well. He probably can even do Tuvan throat singing at the same level
