    How is this playing of the opening of the first movement even remotely Allegro maestoso? This is such a mis-reading of Chopin's instructions and obvious intent.

    Profoundly fractured and disjunct. Oddly compelling and simultaneously deeply unsatisfying. Curious that he has the sort of temerity to perform this way, as his playing has become wildly self indulgent.

    i find that ivo can sap the sweetness from chopin-which is not necessarily a bad thing, since there are many renditions ou there that put one in a diabetic coma. He brings danger and surprise to the piece, which makes me listen more closely - definitely not like listening to a top 40 type chopin anymoee. I can understand how some , maybe many, folks wouldnt like it. I do

    The Nureyev of the piano - at times the Nijinsky of the piano - leaves nothing to chance, and the world of Music is the better for him! How he transcends! Beautiful!

  • @PhillipLWilcher
    @PhillipLWilcher 2 месяца назад

    I am riveted by this. Pogorelich adds to the monument of every work he plays to make even more monumental the scope of Music itself, and this regardless of any pre-conceived ideas or conceptions, which can only serve as misconceptions within the broader scheme of more spiritual and aesthetically satisfying things. One thing I know for sure the world of the piano is the better for him having been part of it!

  • @PhillipLWilcher
    @PhillipLWilcher 2 месяца назад

    The body of sound behind every note he plays, within every measure of the music, is the very stuff of fantasy itself. Regardless of one's conditioning, and how the world has come to perceive Chopin's Fantasie in F minor to the exclusion of bold and new ideas, this performance is extraordinary to me. Almost utterly cerebral in his approach, Pogorelich digs deep to define the difference between playing the piano and c resting Music as an extension of the source. But then, I have always been one to champion him, even at his most eccentric - and this is no exception! - that when thinking outside the square of any creative endeavor, one ultimately comes to realize that there is no square but for the boundaries we place upon Art as a living thing. This is genius at work, make no mistake about it!

    I really don't like this interpretation. Every line is being exaggerated to the point that the music is not flowing. For music to be touching and expressive, phrasing needs to be subtle, with urgency and forward momentum and rhythm. Pogorelich's playing is complete opposite. For example, try listen to 9:20-9:40 and compare with Rubinstein and you will get what I mean.

    ❤❤this sonata is a "living entity" on the Buddhic plane sphere of our planetary scheme, known as the Cosmic Physical Plane. This composition, being a living entity, separate from Chopins creation on paper, or the myriads of pianists varied interpretations over a 100 year history, or even what we consider IPs interpretation of the Sonata at any given point in his career, has a MUSICAL LIFE OF ITS OWN. This musical entity on its own Buddhic Plane, inspires a performing artist to perceive its own spirit as it chooses. Only a rare few pianists can grasp, capture and hear this Musical Entity called the Chopin Sonata #3 actually as it is on the zBuddhic Plane. Rarely, if ever, can humans recognize this musical entity and allow this entity to speak its musical thoughts via the artistry of a very gifted performer. ❤❤❤❤

    This is IMHO one of the most important pianists/artists of our time. His uniqueness,sincerity, creativity ,expressivity, skill etc. is tremendously powerful IF his listeners can shed their preconceived notions as to HOW a piece of great music should be played and interpreted . Standardization, traditional interpretation is not something he strives for, obviously! He is the kind of artist who can keep the classics alive and interesting in our time . Entertaining isn't his priority. His feel and love for what he plays is far deeper than phoney facial expressions and such antics. Look elsewhere for such things . Instead, be open to rediscovery of great intense music. The only objection I personally have is that , even though art like this transcends politics, I would love to see him play in countries that aren't oppressive to people as are communist countries like China. It would be wonderful if he'd come to the USA ,Canada etc. instead. May pogorelich continue a long time to play and enrich the world of music!

    A great example of a practical refutation of the usual professional haters. Without intending to be exhaustive, but his control such as the pianissimo bombs at 3:00 or especially 6:29 and how he introduces and embeds them should be enough to remind anyone with ears to hear of what music can be about but far too seldom is.

    Less eccentric than his other performances of recent vintage (i.e. the past 25 years or so!). It basically falls within the realm of "normal" interpretive choices, though with quite a bit of freedom. The long, drawn-out phrasing isn't unsuited to the lyricism of the piece. Also, not "texturally tortured", as his performances can be when he is at his most eccentric. FYI, it's a big, "circle in the round"-type stage, and a very reverberant hall, of a dimension more suitable to orchestral concerts, so that explains much of the acoustical quality of the recording. I've recorded concerts on my phone in this hall too, and have heard Pogorelich play there before - though I can't remember if I recorded the Pogorelich concert I heard there or not. ;-)
