Hey mate, can I ask your feedback on the J-Max snorkel after a years usage. I first watched this vid close to when you uploaded it and wanted to see what your thoughts and feed back are now after using it and putting it thorugh its paces. Also, could you use a silicone right angle or 45 in lieu of the wire reinforced hosing. Not a fan of that which to me representds the biggest weakpoint of the whole system and for close to a $G I'm not fully sold just yet. Cheers bro, appreciate the feedback and love the channel
Yeah great question mate, the snorkel is solid as ever in its mounts after doing 20000km on and offroad last year. It does not cause water to pool in the air box when driving in heavy rain. And as for the flexibile pipe, yes it could be peiced i suppose but when yoh push the excess back into the gaurd it is quite compressed meaning theres more steel support to stop it caving in from induction. But like you said silicone pipes would be ideal. Although i would use a custom air box for that install. Because the factory box setup is very tight to connect the pipework. Brother I got an N80 Hilux.. I'm torn between Stainless or Safari people are saying that the Stainless Snorkel gets water through to the airbox? How do you find it so far?
Havent found water entry to be a issue at all. Drove 10 hours in rain across the Nullarbor and it didnt fill my airbox up. Just ensure your duxk lip valve is working at the base of your airbox
I've got one on my luxy diftent brand , how do ya all find the horrible.intake noise ? I'm about to rip off and put a plastic one back on any 1 been able.to make it quieter??
If you look closely can you see panel waves along where you've cut with the snips. Does the pinch weld hide it? As anal as I was cutting mine with snips you can still see warping. Having a black car doesn't help.
Yes definitely a very slight wave. But the pinch weld is more than big enough to cover that up. I found the cut out a little to sloppy and i would cut 2-4mm inside the black line next time
See I got mine from PHATBARS as I wanted the short entry. The pinch weld they supply is much thinner so way less room for error, plus you have to remove 3 panel bolts to beable to bend the top of the fender out so you can manipulate the base of the snorkel through. Just to much bending and manipulating around a skin panel for my liking. The risk for damage is to high. The thing is you only get 1 shot and now I'm regretting even attempting it 🥴
@@smatt9993 I thought mine was going to be short entry but it didn't end up that way. (Jmax didn't have photos of a low cut). That sounds tricky as compared to these snorkels

Drove around 6 hours straight in rain across the Nullarbor recently and no issues with water in the air filter housing. Ensure the duck lip rubber valve is functioning and clear to allow any excess water to leave the housing when the engines off
OMG, don't like that install at all. Such a large cut in the fender would weaken it, defending prefer the unit I got. Also why is the head facing away from the airflow?

If you remove a snorkel do u have to make changes to the air box inlet say block it off or just leave it open?

2 inch lift, and tyres are 32inch. Just don't remember offset on the rims.. got them second hand 🤔
Is that stepped section on the base of the snorkel where you attach the flexi pipe 4 inches wide or is it reduced to a 3 inch there? Great video 👏🏻
Correct, unless your getting the custom airbox. It 4 down to 3 to fit the existing factory box

I believe it has made a difference, but I put more parts on the ute so now its basicly back to were it was before
What about the induction sound on long drives? Annoying? like a sports exhaust on a 6 cylinder commodore.
The noise is mainly present in 2nd, 3rd gear. At 100kmh there's no apparent noise. Window up and it's not noticeable in the lower gears

The fender doesn't exactly hold the car together, I prefer the snorkel being recessed into the gaurd each to there own i guess

Yeah but you will have permanent fixing or holes in any snorkel install i suppose

Its the dark grey reflective, can only be seen in certain light conditions (artificial light)
