When I was 12 yrs old my dad came home with a 68 L71 Lemans blue with black interior t-top, close ratio "rock crusher" 4 speed. I got to wash and wax it alot and for my effort dad would give me a "corvette" ride. In his younger days he raced stock cars so power sliding around a cloverleaf was not uncommon. I can still hear the solid lifters and the whine of the tranny.
I'm a chevy-hating FORD man, but a 68 Corvette has special significance for my Dad and I, cuz he had to sell his Canary Yellow w/Black Interior, 4spd, 12 Bolt 4.88 Posi, 427 Big Block Corvette because my baby seat wouldn't fit in it....he sold it in 1974 for $2300.00....and I've had to hear about that shit my entire life....smmfh
The '68 and '69 T-top coupes had a cool design feature that I never hear mentioned (I owned a '69, so that's how I know about it): the rear window could be removed in a few seconds and stored in a cavity above a drop-down shelf, so when it was stored it took no space from the "luggage area." The T-tops, however, when inserted into their protective envelopes and stacked beneath that drop-down shelf, took virtually all the storage space. I made a hundred-mile trip in mine with the T-tops off and rear window out and side windows down. At the end of that trip, my ears were ringing so badly I could scarcely engage anyone in conversation.
@@truebetold65 Thanks! I did not know that. I loved the '69 best because of the front fender vents design, but if I had another one I would put a 1973 urethane nose on it; I thought the thin chrome piece was kind of silly, but loved the rigid ducktail spoiler that died with the '73.
@@SidsCardShop I agree.. this design, to me, I think is one or perhaps one the best looking American cars made, Duntov (the father of the Corvette) loved them and hated the C2 design.. He stopped the the split window on the 64. The C2 is a classic but the C3 lines inspired by the early Ferraris especially the 68-72 cannot be matched in my book. Hands down.🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸👍
I had to wipe my drool off of my keyboard before commenting on this one! I've been a Corvette fan since I was old enough to know what a Corvette is, and I don't think I've ever seen a white '68 vette with an L89, but this one's beautiful. Dad had a green '68 L72 but had to sell it to feed me and my brothers. I told him I could have skipped a meal every day so he could have kept it!! Oh, if only I were as lucky as these brothers.
@@edwardalamo2507 The very early '66 only L72... when they rated it at 450 hp for only a couple of months, then the executives mandated that all cars had to have a 10 to 1 weight to hp ratio or less...? Yeah, those are extremely rare. Just as rare are the early '65s with the 327 fuelie engines that were still available until the 396 was introduced in Jan '65.
Back in '80, I got a '68 Corvette Roadster which had originally been an L88 car. The L88 was long gone and the 427 it had was blown. I traded a '75 Monza with the 350 V8 for it. I had an old LS-6 sitting in the garage, so I rebuilt it with "Air Research" ported heads and a roller cam. I "hogged" out a factory hi-rise and ran an 850 Holley and nitrous. I ran 4:88 gears with 10.5 McCreary treaded slicks. I used it for street racing.

They are not bias ply tires. Corvettes never used bias plys unless thr owner put them on. They used a special high speed nylon cord tire used on no other car.
It would have looked like a 1964 Pontiac Banshee had Chevrolet not stolen the design. A design so superior and innovative that it lasted well over a decade.

Rick Uyeda can you imagine if you sought out a l88 you’d have a multi million dollar car.
Street racing..... Jesus I'm glad you're on our side.
Very nice car. I love solid lifter big blocks, and aluminum heads are just that much sweeter. Nice burnout too.
i love these videos pleas show some more cool Corvettes from the collection both old and new!!!
Back in the day (late 70’s) I had a 68 427/390 yellow roadster. One feature I wish they hadn’t deleted is the fiber optics light monitors.
Love the 68 but the 69 was so much better. All the bugs had been worked out by 69.
272 68 and 311 69 Camaros with L89, a $700(!) option.
Masterpiece of art on four wheels!!

such a beautiful car! the best of the best!
Had one during the early 70"s 427 rag top tripower hooker tunnel tubes sounded wonderful never had anyone pass it on the interstate.
love this channel! Wonderful cars!!
The C3, C4 and C5 are my favorite Corvettes.
I'm digging those white wall tires, as usual great video and Vette.

harleyguyinmilw what is the difference between 68-69-70 I’m gonna buy a 68-72 and want to know every difference. Tia.
The C3 Corvette is the best. What a hot car.
Nice burnout!😁
Zora Arkus Duntov, liked the new 68 model ♥ over the Mid year model
Yes, Zora said of the 68 "finally a Corvette I am proud to drive in Europe."
Amazing

Proper burnouts, thx.
This is the beginning of the best looking vette for, the next five years 68-72. It's looks I'm sorry, puts the C2 to absolute shame.
They are 2 different styles so which looks better is subjective. Different vibe to the 2 cars.
Well I own a C2 and a C3 and I love them both but I must say the C2 coup looks best to me.

I had 1969 with that engine and the plaque on the console said 450 hp. from the factory.
I also added ZL1 racing fenders from the factory.
Richard Miller do you wish you kept it.?
435hp from factory is what it said, 460 torque.
What rear gear does it have
