I had a '68 435 horse convertible. That car was really nice but it had a few bugs that I presume were ironed out by '71. The LS-6 was still a 475 horse engine even if Chevrolet said otherwise. '71 was a great model year for Corvette as you could have a high performance LT-1 small block (rated at 330 hp) as well as the LS-6. Oh, to have kept those cars from my youth.
OOOHH To have kept so many cars that we saw people buy and rag out and sell for just a couple of hundred dollars, today, you could get many thousands of dollars for those cars, even in the shape that they were in when they were sold back then, Rught!?!?!?

Back in the early 70s I owned a black on black 67 427 435 hp C2 Corvette with all the go fast stuff including the factory side exhaust. It had a 3.36 posi rear since it wasxa daily driver and due to the relatively weak 10 bolt IRS rear and half shafts I didn't drag race the car. It was fast. The engine would pull the car up to just under 155 mph at 6500 rpm. I never exceeded redline. Neverthe less at 52000 miles the plastic teeth on the main timing gear broke off. This resulted in internal damage to the short block. At the local Chev dealership I could get a replacement 427 short block. OR for 250 dollars more I could get a LS6 11.25 to 1 solid lifter cam 454 short block. Easy choice. The heads got new valve springs 2 new valves and a 3 angle valve job at Traco in Culver City . These and the triple carb intake were then bolted onto the LS 6 short block. Slight rejetting on the carbs and breaking on the Traco dyno. Then the serious pulls. After some more rejetting a change in the diaphragms on the end carbs and final timing best pull resulted in 478 hp at 6200 rpm. Perfect. The engine was completely docile. It's serious torque curve started at 2000 rpm and was endless. The engine pulled noticeably stronger than the 427 although it didn't grab revs quite as quickly. I never took the car past redline although at 6500 it still had throttle left. It's a pity that this combination of parts and high compression triple carbs 454 never made it into production. Eventually the editor of Hot Rod magazine offered me enough to buy the car so I sold it. Pity. I never cared about numbers matching and originality. In my world muscle cars existed to be driven and enjoyed. And at that time they were unsophisticated enough so it was alwsys possible to make the suspension brakes and engines better. I still have 2 muscle cars from that time.both are original appearance wise but highly modified under the skin. I drive both on a daily basis and enjoy them. Both are small blocks both have over drive transmissions and both will run out at over 150 mph. Fortunately lll be dead before t h e EV BULLS..T forces IC cars off the road.
I got a 72 with a modern 350 Fuel injection 350 HP with a 5 spd manual. All high performance suspension, leather, side pipes it’s loud as hell and it scares small children and dogs.
It was and most road racers ordered the Convertible with the hardtop in place of the soft top (no extra charge) and it was also a little cheaper than the Coupe.

I used to see a fair number of 427 Corvettes in the 80s. There was a guy who worked at a local bank branch, who drove a blue 427 Corvette to work every day from roughly 1987-1990. I'd see 427 Corvettes on the rosd more often that I'd see cars like 64 or 65 Mercury Comets. I went to 'Super Chevy Sunday' at Maple Grove raceway in 1985, in return for my Chevy-fan buddy's sacrifice of going with me to the 'Ford Motorsport nationals' several weeks earlier. I saw quite a lot of 427 and 454 Corvettes there. Contrast that with the 1 or 2 Boss 302 or Boss 429 Mustangs I've seen in person in my entire life!
The 71 Corvette roadster was truly an amazing example of American Muscle. . There were actually two different 454 options. My 71 C3 had 365 horsepower, 460 foot pounds of torque. It featured cast iron heads with hydraulic lifters. It had a dual snorkel air cleaner. Also worth mentioning is that it had the deluxe black leather interior, power steering, power brakes, power windows, tilt and telescope wheel, am/fm stereo, and upgraded carpeting. I really miss that car a good regret getting rid of it. 😩
@@bigredc222 I went to the fall NHRA national even in early October of 2016 at Maple Grove. That was the first time I'd been since probably 1990-ish. They sold ear plugs at a table just inside the ticket booth during that 2016 NHRA national event. They were mandatory, if you desired to not lose your hearing!
Amazing year for Corvette. My pop had a red convertible LS-6 with the M-22 manual trans. He was lucky to find the car with the fiberglass hardtop. He also scored as the original owner maintained all the paperwork over the years. His corvette was on of the 188. Sadly, there was a misprint on the block that coded it as an LS-5. He spent years and time attempting to get GM to open the archives to prove the internal components of the block were in fact LS-6..........But Gm was stingy with the records. As I recall, it had something to do with the strike at the Bowling Green plant in 1970.

The 70 Z28 Camaro is the coolest Camaro ever. Dark Green, White Stripes, Black or Green Interior! Split Bumper, Early Production Car With Short Height Rear Spoiler.
I never thought warbonnet yellow was not at all appealing (to me) back in the day. I think it is now.. Though I'd like it much better with black interior.

All LT-1 and LS-6 cars had the AIR system as contrary to popular belief, it was a better way to meet the emissions without reducing performance as much as other methods.
I've never been a big GM fan I am a Mopar nut but I will give the Corvette credit where due 73 and older were fantastic cars after that I think they became junk until today's you know modern technology but hats off to the 73 to 71 to 69 and all those other shark nosed Corvettes
I had a boss back in the 80s who had a 67 vette with a 427. he raced a buddy of his with a new 70 with the 454. he said after blowing by him when they started racing he then looked into his mirrors and saw he was pulled over on the side of the hi-way smoking like a bastard. he got off at the next exit and went back around to see what happened. his buddy said he tried keeping up,but that 427 just kicked the living snot out of the 454 he ended up throwing a rod, blowing a head gasket , pulled the 454 and swapped it out for a 427! lol! ☆☆☆
Hey brother I never see you host a 427 yenko Nova which is truly the fastest car built in the 70 era as a muscle car that can do in a quarter mile with some slicks on about 11 seconds at 114 miles an hour
1st year for leather, I think. Knew a guy that had a yellow '71 conv. black vinyl hardtop with black leather and a 4spd 454. A college student in Norman early 70s. Are you out there Bob N.?
I had a LT-1 .Thought i had bough a 350 hp . Turned out , it was only a 255 hp. Ran like the dog it was . LT-1 had as i found out 5 different HP rating . Better know the engine codes real good . I got taken .!!
I know this is an old post but why would you choose an LT-1 over an LS6? I mean...unless you just want the slower car out of the two. Especially the '71...down a whopping 40 horsepower from 1970 (LT-1 that is). It was either LS6 or, if you were lucky enough to get a ZR2 with a factory race-built L88, but th drivability wasn't too great with those. A '70 LT-1 couldn't even get out of the 14's. They were stout for a small block because of the high compression and solid cam, but they weren't even close to being in the same league with the top big blocks of that era.
Ford fans: Chevrolet is junk Chevrolet: Hold my mutha FKIN BEER. No disrespect to ford but ford fans are all ford or nothing and it's frustrating.... I personally love all 3, Ford Dodge and Chevy... can't go wrong with either 3
Actually I considered it just the opposit. Been my experience that most Chevrolet fans only like Chevys and that's it, I'm a Ford man , but, I can appreciate any old car. Who doesn't like a nice Chevy ll or 70 Roadrunner.

He spent years and time attempting to get GM to open the archives to prove the internal components of the block were in fact LS-6..........But Gm was stingy with the records. As I recall, it had something to do with the strike at the Bowling Green plant in 1970.
Corvettes were built in St.Louis in 70
Yeah not buying that story and Bowling Green Assembly opened in 1981 and the 454 engines were built in Tonowanda (Buffalo) NY.
@@thud9797 Gee...I'm sorry my distant childhood memories don't meet your standards for perfection. I believe you are referred to nowadays as "toxic". Cheer up, grumpy.
@@LUPINEMAXXSeems fair, my apologies sir
@@thud9797 - Gracious words. If I could remember every detail verbatim from my 70's/80's childhood...I'd have more money than Elon Musk.
Nice Car !!!! Stay Strong....Peace
I had this Corvette--mine was metallic orange an it had side exhaust, I kind of miss it
She’s a beauty 👍
Back when corvettes looked like corvettes.!!!!
Now they look like a mix breed.
Agree 🇺🇸👍
My dad had this exact car and color so excited to see video I think he paid 4500 cash way below sticker
Wow, that was a deal! Glad you like the video, it is cool to see something that takes you back!
I liked it thanks.
The LS-6 Vettes are very rare. That low rise intake killed around 20hp over the L72/L78 high rise intake which should’ve fit under the scooped hood.
World products makes a low rise that flows like crazy now
This car is a beast
If i won the lottery i would get 3 1970 Chevys, Corvette Ls5. Chevelle Ls6 and Camaro SS or Z-28 R.S.
The 70 Z28 Camaro is the coolest Camaro ever. Dark Green, White Stripes, Black or Green Interior! Split Bumper, Early Production Car With Short Height Rear Spoiler.
Be cool to see a 71 LS6 race a 2001 LS6 in the quarter. Stick the same drag radial on both, which one wins????
I never thought warbonnet yellow was not at all appealing (to me) back in the day. I think it is now.. Though I'd like it much better with black interior.
Love it rare car 454 Aluminum Heads !!!!
Love my '76
My dad had a 71 new 454 same color looked goldieh green was also popular lol when new
It's awe$ome!
Nice car
I love it. BB Vette
I always loved the Corvette of those year with there nice chrome bumpers. But automatic? Have a good weekend!
Love that year Corvette! My favorite Vette body style ever!
My car-
2001 Viper GTS sapphire/stripes
Styker Heads/cam/headers/hi-flow cats/Corsa cat-back/Penske tripple-adjustable shocks/ACR oil adapter/windage tray/3qt Accusump/Anti-Stop Brakes/700hp/690tq all motor
Always buy American muscle cars made in Kentucky USA baby yeah eeehaw 💯💯👍👍😎
Quel mon beauté ...
Quel beauté.. Je voulais dire 😁
it's nice to see the difference between years 70s 80s look similar
Have a 71 roadster currently. Mille Miglia Red 270 horse 350 4 speed.
Beast
NICE😎👍🏿
The first I noticed was the AIR pump so it must be a car with California emissions. That makes it even rarer!
All LT-1 and LS-6 cars had the AIR system as contrary to popular belief, it was a better way to meet the emissions without reducing performance as much as other methods.
That things needs some side pipes
Nice! Ain't no substitute for cu inches hey!
this is maybe the best looking vette ever
Agree
Nice one.
I've never been a big GM fan I am a Mopar nut but I will give the Corvette credit where due 73 and older were fantastic cars after that I think they became junk until today's you know modern technology but hats off to the 73 to 71 to 69 and all those other shark nosed Corvettes
Sir you have very good taste... Mopar is top notch as well.🇺🇸
the most beautiful Corvettes are the C3!
I totally agree with you
Ken, who is the lucky guy that gets to throttle these cars?
Nice..
I had a boss back in the 80s who had a 67 vette with a 427. he raced a buddy of his with a new 70 with the 454. he said after blowing by him when they started racing he then looked into his mirrors and saw he was pulled over on the side of the hi-way smoking like a bastard. he got off at the next exit and went back around to see what happened. his buddy said he tried keeping up,but that 427 just kicked the living snot out of the 454 he ended up throwing a rod, blowing a head gasket , pulled the 454 and swapped it out for a 427! lol! ☆☆☆
Those 427s were monsters I had a 69 with 390 that ran great. I can only imagine what the higher compression cars would do
It was probably an LS5.
427 were internally balanced and could Rev past 7000!
Or maybe even a L88! Either way, I miss the good old days when those dinosaurs roamed the streets and were parked in our driveway!
That idle...just like music.
EXCELLENT. A1.TOPNOTCH.
Hey brother I never see you host a 427 yenko Nova which is truly the fastest car built in the 70 era as a muscle car that can do in a quarter mile with some slicks on about 11 seconds at 114 miles an hour
Only 188 of them made with 454 wow
Nice
I want one!
1st year for leather, I think. Knew a guy that had a yellow '71 conv. black vinyl hardtop with black leather and a 4spd 454. A college student in Norman early 70s. Are you out there Bob N.?
bernie agaman ran the 71 LS6 SS/CA world champ
LT-1 was the way to go in the early 70's w/a Vette, preferably a ZR1. Small Block FTW!
BTW, this car could have been upgraded to a ZR2.
I had a LT-1 .Thought i had bough a 350 hp . Turned out , it was only a 255 hp. Ran like the dog it was . LT-1 had as i found out 5 different HP rating . Better know the engine codes real good . I got taken .!!
If you had 255 H.P., you had a '72. The compression was way down making this the only solid lifter 'Vette you could order with A/C.
@@scottelkin562 probably a 72 engine snuck in a 71 body
I know this is an old post but why would you choose an LT-1 over an LS6? I mean...unless you just want the slower car out of the two. Especially the '71...down a whopping 40 horsepower from 1970 (LT-1 that is). It was either LS6 or, if you were lucky enough to get a ZR2 with a factory race-built L88, but th drivability wasn't too great with those. A '70 LT-1 couldn't even get out of the 14's. They were stout for a small block because of the high compression and solid cam, but they weren't even close to being in the same league with the top big blocks of that era.
No LS6 available in 1970 Corvette. Biggest engine available was 390 hp 454.
george m not true....do more research!!!!
@@michellegrone7131 VERY true , you're the one who needs to do the research .
I'm surprised they used Holley,
instead of a Quadrajunk.
GM meant business with the LS6 engine.
All hi perfomance CHEVY’s had a HOLLEY
The anniversary edition mid 70s???
How much hp did the 454 @ 1971?
Was there a hughe torque?
The 465 horsepower LS7 454 was put in copo 1970 Chevelles and Corvettes
Those cars were dealer built , not COPOs . You couldn't even buy a LS7 full engine assembly from Chevrolet , only the parts to build one .
All a 71 LS6 Corvette is missing is some compression
? ,low commission,it Won’t miss some brute horsepower, do you think that’s going to stop that LS6 ?
Ford fans: Chevrolet is junk
Chevrolet: Hold my mutha FKIN BEER.
I'm with you, I LIKE cars...
I'm going to think of this as a Steve McQueen corvette. Selah
