For people who don't have a multimeter, you can use a small bulb or a small watch that works on a 1.5v battery, plug the 1.5v battery to the small bulb, if it the bulb works, try to plug the fuse to the circuit, if the bulb works again, it means that the fuse is working
You mustn't bypass the main fuse if you don't know why fuse is broken . With bypassing you can damage other components on power supply. You need to find the issue first and then to replace fuse.
Yeah it's just that I had alredy figured out the problem on mine so I bypassed it.
I know it's too late but can you please mention a rough idea of how we're supposed to find the issue?

Hmm, tried it and the fan spins for a second before shutting off, same as before, might be the motherboard or something else at this point; guess that's it then.

make sure your 12 V charger can supply enough juice to the PS3 and/or must be rated 14A up or you'll fry your chargers components, worst case heating up and burning down your house.

THE 12v adapter that u used is of how much amps
My ps3 stopped working, when i plug it in the red light light up and when i turn it on it works for a few seconds, the fan starts same for the disc reader but it turns off a few seconds later.
Could this be a PSU issue or motherboard, it would be very helpfull if someone in the replies lets me know.

This is a power supply unit issue , you can should consider replacing the psu.
I have read that you never touch the insides of the PSU, they still hold off current and may shock you.
That's why he say to wait 15min until the capacitors uncharge :)
My ps3 got taken out by a power outage, it actually survived multiple but this most recent one was the nail in the coffin, now the red light won't even show up i'm almost certain this can be fixed with a psu change? Can someone in the comments let me know?
Well it can mostly be fixed by replacing the power supply . No red light or any movment is the symptom of no power and that can mean that your psu is bad , so if u replace it it should mostly fix it.
does the sticker at the bottom of the ps3 say 200-240 volts and the inside battery said 100-240 volts
I did not get what you are trying to say ? The PS3 is sold world wide and in some parts of the world the voltage is 240 and some a little above 100 so it has to be made in such a way it can work in any place ..

there is a sticker under the ps3
That was a warrenty sticker that I removed , removing that can cause loss of warrenty . Ps4s have it on the back and PS3 have it down
I’ve got a PS3 FAT and I do get the STBY red led but as soon as I push the power button it goes green then quickly shuts down, I’ve tried measuring the 12V rail with multimeter and am not getting anything there
Ps3 fat has a different power supply , i think it should still have the 5v , it has 2 cables right?
Or you can buy a PS3 power supply on Amazon for about $35. Easy to replace. Most are used, but tested and fine.

Great video! I have a problem with my PS3 Super Slim OFW 4:84 it tunerts Off by it self but stils red ligth stanby. Yesterday the Ps3 it tunerts On by it self. What can i do to solve the problem? Thank You.
It can be a software issue or maybe the "yellow light of death". I don't see a problem with the psu ( but I may be wrong).You may have to open up the whole PS3 till the cpu and use a heat gun(or a hair dryer ) on both the cpu and GPU for some time, if u are lucky this may fix the issue. If it does not get fixed then its most likely a software issue u may have to boot into safe mode and update the PS3 via usb( if you are doing this make sure the update is downloaded from the offical PS3 site or u may brick the system).
And also one more question
: Does the PS3 boot into the safe mode at least?

So my PS3 has no red light when plugged in, so the fuse must have blown up in standby.
But how do I find why?
Because I see no problem in the power supply (nothing burned, all capacitors look good)
U can check if the fuse is blown with the multimeter, fuse would have blown because of a power fluctuations.

No the size and shape of sim is very different than the one in fat , you will need a slim psu for slim

It can be power fluctuations , or even prolonged use and ageing.
This is a bypass and not fixing the initial issue. Also this is rather dangerous to do.
Hello great engineer! Great video! Could you please help me? My problem is different. When I plug AC red light turns on, then I press the button and the led turns green, fan spins and bd player check for a disk. But no video signal. And I can't turn off the unit just pressing the power button! Green led is always on but everything seems to be stuck. Tried with different HDMI cables and on different TV but no signal and stuck.

This is a wierd one , If there is no output there has to be a problem with the HDMI port ,but since you said that the PS3 gets stuck I think there might be a hard drive problem too , I have not encountered this probelm but try cleaning the HDMI port with isopropyl alcohol and if that didn't fix it check the soldering and weather any pin is bent inside the hdmi port , if everything is perfect you can just remove the hard drive and try turning on the PS3 and if it shows something, the problem is your hard drive and you may have to replace it . I had today the same issue.
I can Power it on but no picture and no Power on the usb ports. No bluetooth. Game disc spin up. But without disc I can hear in the first 3 secends all sounds normal and after that no harddrive Sound an the Fan get silent. I can only Power of when I press the power Button for a few secends.
I tryed to get to the Service menu but no Chance.
Because of the no Power on usb I think maybe there is an issue with the power supply. Maybe on 12v is power but the 5v will not work.
I will try this weekend Bypass only the 5v.
@@ReneOne111 I solved buying a second-hand ps3 very cheap 😅. After buying it I tried to switch the power supply between the two units and the problem was the same. I also used the ps3 native video cable (not the HDMI) and the problem was the same....

I also tried the av cable without succes. I used the Super slim only for OFW. My slim have a CFW.

Bro in my case my fuse was not working and I bypass it and after that it is not still powering on
Try replacing it , fuses are cheap , of that does not fix it it ks not the fuse.

You can try , but again this method is temporary and for checking if any other part other than psu is causing the problem , you will eventually have to replace the PSU .
Dude in my ps3 the problem is that, I get the red light, press on it and it turns green, fan runs for 2 seconds and then my entire ps3 shuts down and then there is no power whatsoever and then I have replug the cord into the socket and then again I get the red light and same thing goes on loop could you help me? If you do the steps iny vid it will fix the power supply and then if your PS3 turns on then u just have to replace the power supply , but of it does not work then it's a problem with either of the chips and u may have to reflow it (heating the CPU and GPU....
@@rakshitrohan9136 in your case it's mostly the power supply because you mentioned that the whole PS3 goes off( no power ), so you may want to replace the power supply

I think it should be fine until it's 5v and it's req only in the start, the 12v adapter I used had 4A max.

I miss my ps3 supper slim ... well had it not turn on for months but seeing it didnt turn on when plugged in as in no 're light jus blank I gave up on it .. could this help.?
Try changing the powe cable , if it still does not work , try plugging it in a known working socket , and if still no luck then it has to be you psu , try opening it up and check the fuse on the psu , and if it's intact then you might want to consider replacing it . Also you can try the method in the video for temporaryly fixing the psu to confirm its the psu.
Why don’t you just go by a replacement psu? They’re like almost free on the eBay stores 🤔
I made this back when there was no stock, and like i said its a temporary fix, if u put a lot of load on the ps3 it may just power off even with the extra cables.
I know this video is super old, but do you know how many ampere are pushed to the HDD? Is it only 900mA? I'm talking about those superslim models... Mine is a CECH-4301C. It's for Canada and USA.

So my ps3 super slims turns off within like 5 seconds of turning it on. Just as the HDD/Fan noise starts it turns off. Is it because of faulty fuse or the whole PSU?

It's not a fuse as if it was the PS3 won't turn on, so it needs a new psu , it's a psu problem..

Hello. I have a same issue. I don't have a 12v output. You said that you can fix it by replacing fuse or bypassing it. But what the fuse is? What fuse means? I don't understand the word "fuse". Pls don't ignor my comment i'll be grateful if you help me out. Fuse is a component that breaks the circuit in case of flow of high voltage , like if lightning strikes and u were playing on the PS3 there is a good chance it's ur fuse , but if the PS3 is coming to the red light then it's not the fuse , it's the whole power supply unit , does your PS3 turn on or turn it self off after some time or..?

Hey, I've tried it and it sounds like not working in 5V side (cause the fan shows sign of life when I plug the 12V). Does it means the problem come from mother card or it is a good idea to change the all Pso ?

This sounds like a power supply unit problem , so u may have to replace it, the fix I showed in this video was just to check weather the rest of ur ps3 is working and is temporary so I'd u want to game properly again , you will have to get a new psu.
i have two questions.
1......does the same process work for all psu's in all ps3 models?
2.......do you just leave the 5v and 12v cables connected to the socket throughout your use?
This is a temporary fix , and it works for only super slim , if u have a slim model it's easier to fix , there are many vids on RUclips you can refer to that , and yes we leave it connected but u can remove or keep it in the socket

Can I do the same to fat ps3? For my situation is, can turn on n play a few mins or at times 30mins. Then it turns off with 3beeps. At times it wont turn on. Chip prob or psu? Many thanks.
That is not a psu problem it has no power issue , u may have to reflow or reball the cpu

Yea but u can try reflowing I , taking the mother board out and then taking a hair drier at max heat or a heat gun and try heating the cpu and GPU like keep moving the hairdryer in circles around cpu and GPU for like 10 min each and then go around the board and again 10 min each , it's worth a try , you don't have anything to lose , and if it works it's good...

Hey, have a power supply problem with my PS3 super slim too. When i plug it in 230V, the red light goes on for about 1 sec and goes black. While measuring i don't have the 12V, but have the 5V when the motherboard is not plugged in. When the MB is plugged in, the 5V is gone. Do i need to have also the 12V when red light on, or are they there only when PS3 is on green light? Also think i have some short in the MB when the 5V drops after connecting it
The motherboard is supposed to have 12 V as soon as the power is plugged and turned on , so I think you will need to replace your psu

12 V has to be ok stand by as well

My PS3 Super Slim shuts off after about 2 hours. Also when I'm playing a game, certain textures won't load properly and instead look blurry. What could be causing this to happen?
Certain textures not loading is okay , it is because in the game you might be going too fast and the cpu and GPU is not able to keep up , that is not a problem. The turning off after 2 hrs is a problem , does it turn off when there is load ?like a graphic intensive game?
@@themechanic9841 It usually shuts off during gameplay. The game will start to lag for a few seconds before shutting off. The fan seems a bit loud as well.
I feel it can be because it's overheating , u should try replacing the thermal paste.

Wait the white screw ur talking about is only there in PS3 slim model , it's not there in the super slim model..
Hi, so a small shelf that was on my wall fell onto my ps3 and now it wont turn on. The red light will appear and after pressing it once more to turn it green, I hear the fan but then it shuts off. I read someone somewhere saying theirs did the same thing and when they put pressure on the back left of the system it worked and it's the same thing for me. Do you think it's the power supply? I have a feeling something disconnected since it only turns on when pressure is being put onto the back left portion of the system. Any response would be great!
Since it was a physical problem , like a hevy object the fell on it , the problem can be anywhere but with the symptoms you are saying it should mostly be a power supply or a disconnected cable , I highly recommend you to tear it down at least till the psu and check out the cables I showed in the video.

See ur 12 v is not showing output so u should connect a 12 v adapter to it as shown , this method is purely temporary , so I should consider replacing the PSU.
A new power supply is like 20 bucks on amazon now. I think ill go for that instead... but other than that- my issue is no red light shows up at all and the button doesent work but when i plug the cable in, my ps3 turns on. Would that be the cables bad or the power supply is bad? It also beeps twice when it turns on
No red light is a sign that the power supply is dead so u might wanna replace it , and about the 2 beeps and turn off its the red light of death , u can try reflowing it i.e taking a hairdryer or a heat gun and heat the cpu and GPU , by circling around the cpu 10 times slowly and then gou and then around the whole board , this may or may not fix the issue permanently but hey it's worth a try
Oh it doesent shut off after the beeps, it just does that xD i dont know its such a specific case and its so strange because when i looked on reddit and different forums no one had my exact issue before

My PS3 has a problem, Red light displays then turn it to green also and after that the PS3 turns off. Sometimes it works for few minutes (5 minutes to 30 minutes). I do not know whether it's a PSU problem or CPU. Sometimes I think it's CPU heating issue. May be working if I changed the Thermal Paste.

Like you described , it shuts off after 4-5 seconds of turning off , this happens when there is not enough power reaching the parts , so it should be a weak power supply .

I have a different kind of problem when I plug the ps3 in the lights turns in and everything is working perfectly until I press the power button to turn on the console. It beeps one time and after that no red light and it doesn't do anything after that. And when I take out the power cord and put it back in the same problem happens all over again. Could you please help me?

Oh this is because the power supply is not able to deliver enough power to keep the PS3 on , you might want to replace it , it.should fix the problem.
@@themechanic9841 OK thank you it's fixed now but the ps3 can't deliver 1080p but only 1080i I've switched ports, hdmi cables but it still doesn't work what seems to be the problem now?
1080i is just an interlaced display output while 1080p has a better quality for sure . I don't know what can cause this problem. Is this in menus or in the games?
@@themechanic9841 it's in the menu when I go to settings and select 1080p it shows a black picture and 30 sec after it goes to the previous screen even though I have a 4k Television

You will need the 12 volt adapter , if it still does not work u will need the 5 volt adapter.
Keep in mind this is a temporary solution , eventually u will need to replace the psu

No it requires 12 volts and needs around 18 amps , all we are doing is starting the PS3 and bringing the red light so it turns on ,then the PS3 will have enough current to start up. More Amps the better, my adapter had a output of 12 volts and around 2 amps
