Really good non-biased review. I did end up buying the Summit version which is the top end of the Grand Cherokee models. It was $67,000 USD which included a $7,000 discount. I was also looking at the Mercedes GLE350 (I have owned 2 of them in the past) and BMW X5 but they cost well into the 80's with the same specs and since I'm American I decided to buy an American brand. I also own a 2019 Grand Cherokee Limited and its been wonderful. No issues and just a comfortable riding SUV with plenty of space for what my wife and I need it for. I gave it to my daughter after buying the Summit.
I don't do any serious off roading but I live in NE Ohio so we get plenty of challenging weather conditions - snow, sleet, rain/mud, etc. Honestly the Summit surprised me. Didn't know Jeep had such a luxury version. The Summit has a similar interior to the Grand Wagoneer. The ride with the air suspension is impressive. I have the V6 and for what we need it's just fine and it's been around for a long time so it's reliable and highly refined. There is a hybrid version that you would probably like better since it has substantially more torque and towing capacity (I don't use mine for towing since I also have a truck for that purpose). The Grand Cherokee isn't perfect but neither is any of its competitors. The BMW X5 shines on paper but the back seat is cramped and it doesn't have the comfort you'd expect for over $80k USD. The GLE is good but I've owned 2 of them and it's gotten very pricey and the handling is just so-so. Anyway, great review and I appreciate your honesty.
Great review and love your channel! I have a 2022 Grand Cherokee Overland here in the US. Overall, its an excellent vehicle to own, but I have a lot of the same issues that you mentioned. The piano black trim inside is AWFUL. I have 9,000 miles (a little over 14,000 kilometers) on mine and it looks really bad. The fuel economy is also pretty poor. I have the same motor (the 3.6L V6) and I'm getting between 14 and 17 miles per gallon (16.8 liters/100 kilometers to 13.8 liters/100 kilometers), and I drive it pretty mellow. Also agree about the brake pedal feel. That being said, owning one of these is greater than the sum of it's individual parts. It's very comfortable, ride, steers and handles well, has great tech and is easy to live with. I also have to get to work regardless of the weather, so having the security to get through a lot of snow gives me a piece of mind. I always refer to the Grand Cherokee as the Swiss Army Knife of SUVs...although not perfect, it really does everything well. I have a lot of friends who drive these as well, and we all love them. Keep up at awesome reviews on this channel! I really enjoy your take on things, and it's fun watching reviews of cars we don't get in the US.
As long as you love em that's what matters 👍🏾
Truly a great honest comment. I too own the 2019 GC Limited and its been fantastic. I just purchased the Summit. I'm hoping its just as reliable as my previous version. It's a beautiful auto. I don't mind the V6. Plenty of power for what I use it for. The reason Jeep has cut back on the power motors (V8 Hemi) is because of U.S. regulations. Honestly, I just hate our politicians. They ruin all the fun. 😫
This is the best, most comprehensive off-road review of a JGC I have ever seen. I was hoping for a Rockford turn when you went into the fast reverse.😂 . Awesome!
Truly staggered they dropped the tow capacity that much. Was one thing that probably sold a lot in Australia. Certainly wasn't the reliability reputation.
The towing capacity hasn't really been reduced, the problem is not having the diesel to offer the 3.5t towing capacity. The v6 petrol always had a lower towing capacity.
And no Hemi V8 option in the USA either. It will increase once they put the hurricane inline 6 in the GC in the next few years
The wheels are to close together . Friends don't let friends tow with a jeep , worse tow vehicle made... almost .
I ain't had a newer one though , not sure if anything changed ..
@@MikeSmith-nu9wt maybe you need to look at how your trailer is loaded.
@@MikeSmith-nu9wt Lol!! You really need an education on towing.
IMO price is unjustifiable. it's more than doubled what i had paid for my grand Cherokee older generation. Would rather buy Everest platinum.
Also engine too old
@@xujin3556 absolutely right, mine does 520-570kms to a tank which is 95 litres . Just not worth it these days.

That, it's nuts. Utterly fking nuts, what cars cost
@@mvubu6823Keep voting Labor and it will double again.
What advantages do you see the Everest Platimum has over this one? Obviously diesel V6. Anything else?
Thanks for the review and commentary. I am a big fan of the look, interior and technology. I don’t tow a big van and we are keen to put it on our shortlist.
Very good review Paul. I agree with you, a 3.0 CDI would make this car way better. I own a WK2 that use for work and 4WD, it’s, for me, an incredible car. As I just have invested in A/T tyres, it’s economic,, spacious and the 93lts Diesel tank gives an incredible autonomy. Comparing with the new one, it has way less electronics and sensor (what I prefer) and it’s cheaper to maintain. Jeeps here in Australia are too expensive if compared with US. I think a lot things are in play here, like higher taxes, the AUD value compared with the USD, and the distance for shipping.
In US it’s possible to buy a more custom car what also helps with the price, instead buy a full speec car.
I too own the WK2 version and its been great. Gave it to my daughter and bought the Grand Cherokee Summit. You're right about the price. Bought a fully loaded Summit that includes night vision, passenger side high res display, air suspension, etc. for $67,000 USD. Its expensive but no where near what you pay in Australia.
Great review. The car was on our list, but can't get past that engine. We tow a lot. Have had 5 Jeeps and all have been awesome. All V8's. Unbreakable. Turbo 6 works and preference for petrol. For us, with no sign of a decent motor on the horizon, we will wait to drive the CX90 or probably pull the trigger on X5.
I've had a wh grand for 13 yrs with the merc v6 diesel and trans, its towed my 3t caravan around Oz, multiple trips to the Gulf and WA with 300k km on it now, still craps all over many of the newer 4wds and apart from a transmission (shitty jeeps servicing fault, they didn't read their own servicing bulletin about the second internal filter needing to be changed when towing) its been rock solid. I love that thing, its now my daily. I have a built troopy now for towing and outback touring, that cost as much as a house but will still prefer the jeep for its ease of towing on black top, and a last of breed Stinger GT for sporty drives and interstate blacktop busines trips. Really dumb for jeep to launch that new model here, at that price, without their new hurricane line of turbo inline 6s and that reduced towing capability (why so many sold here).
Reason being that the Jeep GC and GC L have a low tow brake capacity(I think) the previous gen Jeep GC used the Mercedes GLE Platform (W166) and now that FCA is now stellantis the current Jeep GC uses the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Platform.
I still dont understand what was the purpose for that also...
i like how the "A" in Grand Cherokee is out of alignment in the side view driving sequences. haha quality.
Good review, and fair points on the good and bad.
They really need to chuck in their new straight 6 turbo engine or something similar and bring back the 3.5t towing.
That would make it a more well rounded vehicle IMO.
They offer a V8 version here in the States. It has the torque and towing for those who need it. I have the V6 version and its actually really nice and provides plenty of power for my use. But for those who need better towing the V8 is the way to go.
Great review. FYI, the OEM side steps are powder-coated black galvanized steel (you noted that your version was plastic).
It's unbelievable they didn't have a V8 like they always gave us but they charging way more now for an underpowered V6 used on the little wrangler is nuts and I would avoid ! do they think we won't notice this ?
We can thank U.S. politicians and their regulations. Jeep has had to cut way back on the Hemi and Hellcat because of Green Energy bullshit.
It has apparently been large regulatory fines in the US (based on their environmental laws) which have caused Jeep to stop producing the V8s like they used to. I believe that a 3L inline twin turbo 6 is coming soon which can be expected to do the big towing jobs. Although there are many caravans out there now that are manufactured and pitched at 2.5 to 2.7 tonne ATM.
Best looking suv, hands down, I really enjoy the overland front bumper cover and the 18in wheels….. really looking hard at a 2024 laredo x 4x4, with the lux and towing group…. But being a Toyota guy, I’m trying to hold out for a new Tacoma trd off-road… but im not trying to wait 2 years for one…
The Jeep Grand Cherokee comes with either Quadradrive2 or Quadratec2 off road systems. The trail rated versions usually has the quadradrive2 system which is significantly more capable than the system in the unit you used for the shootout. I’m also not a fan of the 3.6 and long for the diesel. The previous version used the Mercedes ML’s chassis which had a substantially better torsion rigidity. After owning the last 3 Grand Cherokees I’ll be moving to the 2024 Prado if it gets a decent diesel powerplant of 600nm and the offroad system in the LC300. Otherwise maybe the Ineos?
I have Summit V8, it's excellent to drive . Has all featured which most of the cars in this range are not there. 0 to 100 in just 6 seconds , amazing pick up. Being in UAE I have done lot of offloading for which I found Jeep too good. Excellent space inside and 19 speaker sound system Mclntosh speakers are too good. 3rd row seating is best in its class. Overall excellent 7 seater SUB
I see the L model has a $6000 price drop. Some one at Jeep thought raising the price would take it up market. Shame they didn't increase the build quality and engine. Whoever oversaw this model should be fired.
Pretty sure even americans dont buy this crap.
@@pummyythere’s tons of em here. Lol
Big rebates and cheap financing on jeeps now, most gcs can be had 10-15% below msrp, without any haggling, just like the pre-Covid days
@@joseeduardo4327 so looks like Americans haven't learnt then haha
Wow I thought Toyotas based on a forty year old design were expensive. At least a Landcruiser 70 series will last and be worth something in the future. $100k for a car that will be worth $25k in five years. No thanks.
Lots of hate here for Jeeps but you all watched it. GVM and GCM important to know 2813kg is plenty for towing and a realistic maximum IMO. I like the look of it, wish it had 8 cylinders.
In Australia the six cylinder petrol wk2 models always had a lower towing capacity. 3.5t on diesel and v8 petrol only.
Great review but what a rip. These won't sell at this price
100%
I believe the auxiliary is an Input not and Output (next to the USB ports).
I’ll take my V6 2020 model Grand Cherokee over any cheap Chinese junk like the LDV or GWM. It’s a cleaner fuel than diesel and I don’t need to tow anything. Wouldn’t buy the new one though. I paid $60k brand new, I’d never pay $90k plus for the replacement.
Another wicked review, Thank you
I’d take the previous generation Jeep any day over this one, that towing capacity is a major letdown
Wow. Too expensive. Won't be on sale much more than a year. Those head rests look awfully uncomfortable 🥵
Love my 2014 overland. I'm about due for an upgrade but without the 3.5t towing capacity it puts this one off the list. I don't know why they would bother with an overland spec model and put a mums taxi motor in it. Jeep have said they are focussing on bringing the 4xe not a diesel or v8. The 4xe also has a low towing capacity. No real signs of jeep improving build quality either.
my 2014 has had the turbo cooler hose in the hot V, and the oil cooler both fail. 170K cost of both repairs $4500!! in the 4 years I've had it. It drives well yes...
Great review!
Weird I drive the same car and fuel economy is 8.5l
The "A" in the word GRAND on the side is misaligned.
Can you guys make a review on the 2023 Honda ZRV e:HEV
‘comparable to SantaFe & Sorento’ … LMAO 😂
🤣🤣😂😂💯 Agreed
Price is terrible. I saw one article on reliability of Jeep, and they found one in three is a lemon.
Another epic fail. I miss my 2015 GC diesel. I wanted to upgrade to the last of the WK2 diesels but none were to be had. So I settled on a Ford Ranger 3.2 diesel. Performance, handling, comfort and economy between the two is like night and day. But I did buy both vehicles for heavy towing and the Ranger does feel more stable in that regard.
G’day I’m paul never gets old
Looks like Lion at front and Hynena at back😅
yep, Grand Cherokee let down by the petrol v6. When is the tornado engine for the Jeep coming down under. Drove the L version and ordered the Everest Platinum based on my requirements.
I .. can’t remember last time I saw a jeep on the road 😅
im in the States see lot on the new car lots unsold to much of a luxury car don't know who buys them ? there is a $1000 rebate on a $65k us $
I hope you’re only on the road as a passenger if you have your eyes closed that much.
I have a two door Wrangler and I think it might the the same engine. Anyhow, I Love My Jeep!
Can you do a review for the Peugeot 3008/ 5008 or the estates please?
Anyone noticed the misaligned “a” in the grand cherokee badging along the side??
I have a 2018 GC Summit rear-wheel drive version here in States like the previous gen you tested I like it as a city run about but even the more powerful gas V6 is not as good as a Hemi or a Diesel
How does that power outlet work? I thought ford got pulled up cause the Aus regulations specify it must be an Australian plug only (not universal), but this Jeep has a universal plug???
its nice but doesnt have the towing capacity or grunt/speed of the previous diesel v6 and no v8 options, was the reason for giving it a pass when replacing our current Grand cherokee (diesel)
Hi Car Expert! Thanks for the Grand Cherokee review. Question: does this Cherokee have lane centering/lane keep assist along with its adaptive cruise? Thanks!
Hey @JMM- I have a 2022 Grand Cherokee Overland (in the US). Both of those features are available, but the lane centering isn't standard. The lane centering is part of the Active Driving Assist System, which at least on the Overland, is apart of the Advanced ProTech Group III. The lane keeping assist will give you a gentle tug and vibration through the steering wheel if you start to drift close to/over the lane marker. Hope this helps!
@Josh M Hi Josh! Thanks for the insight regarding Active Cruise Assist vs standard LKA. Love the new Grand Cherokee-- will have to test drive and see how thr standard lane keeping assist behaves!
Yes
do like the roof line over the GCL to get a low range , overland ,summit / summit reserve . trail hawk 4xe your in auz might as well toyota to get diesels
Are they bringing the trailhawk edition to Australia?! Or the 4xE version??!
4:10 I’m no car manufacturer but I’d say they might have done some focus group testing and found out that most people didn’t use them to tow 3500kgs.
I think they have dumped the 3.0L Diesel cause of all the failing crankshafts. I've got 130K on mine and just waiting for the day to arrive when she goes boom. The reduction in towing capacity is due to 3.6L Petrol.
“Cause” is not a word that makes sense where you’ve used it.
Paul, May I ask is there any plan to review LDV MIFA?
how can jeep provide a 240v outlet when ford are not (in the ranger) due to regulations
Hi can you please review the new Nissan v8 warrior. Thank you
I tried to imagine the 2023 Isuzu D-Max X-TERRAIN
The interior really needs some contrasting colour. Very dark in there.
I do hope Jeep have an SRT model possibly coming but i wont be shocked if they dont, but not being a diesel from launch isnt the best idea
stelantis is ending the v8 hemi s there is a new 3.0 huracane I-6 twin turbo but it is on the wagaoneer/ grand wagoneer 3 row luxury wagon
In the old days the only assistance was me getting out in the Dargo mud to lock in the hubs. Nowadays it's like a powder puff. No one is taking this teacake of a car into the bush

You're right, hope a diesel engine will be brought back in future. I wouldn't go off-road with a petrol.
Why not offroad with a petrol??? Makes no sense.
Been part of 4wd clubs and the majority has always been petrol.

But hey glad the obvious Jeep badge on the bonnet was pointed out....we woulda missed it for sure haha
So little for so much
Few things that made me think - what was Jeep thinking . Paying a premium price for a truck
That’s managed to cut corners . Wimpy V-6
Trying to motivate 3 tons of gluttony . Should
Be using more light weight materials . Air craft
Grade aluminum. Nightmare to work on .
Plastic oil pans , with no exterior filter , it’s
Built in !? Who does that ?? Sub par exhaust
And sound proofing that absorbs water ??
No proper skid plates . Why wouldn’t Jeep
Upgrade the rear axle ratio to 3.73 or 3.91
Brakes leave a lot to be expected. Should
Be 14” diameter with 4 piston calipers
Suspension gives you a marshmallow
Ride .
Jeep has lot the plot.
This is an expensive car I don’t see the value though. Rather buy the Touareg. Is the tank 300 on sale in AUS yet?
A 4wd with a naturally aspirated petrol just does not make sense ? the 2 best 4wd i have ever owned and ive had a few were a 4 litre petrol Prado and my current model Nissan Patrol , both smooth ,quiet and quick for an off road vehicle only down side is fuel economy but i don't buy a car for it's fuel economy. Also just went with a mate to test drive the VW Amarok he drove both the petrol and the diesel the petrol was so much nicer to drive than the diesel i think us aussies have had limited choices for so long all we have had is diesels and they have forgotten what it is like to drive a smooth ,quiet petrol 4wd, just my humble opinions.
Love
GWM TANK 300 PLS 🙋🏻♂️
How many recalls with this one have? The last generation is one of the most recalled vehicles on the planet lol.
It’s not a Mercedes
Chrysler Jeep has dropped the ball by not having a diesel motor in the Grand Cherokee. I own a GC Overland with the 3.0L VM diesel motor and it is a fantastic car. It is so capable, I tow a 20'6 caravan with ease. When I update I was going to look at another GC but not if the towing spec is reduced and certainly not if they drop the diesel motor. There are not that many choices for a 3.5T towing capacity. Great review as always CarExpert.
well ev is coming their agenda needs to stand
Obviously it depends on budget but your do have the Patrol, Landcruiser or Everest as other options for towing 3.5 tonne.
