You're welcome! Yep, motivating people to get out there and explore is one of the main reasons we make these videos. We inspire people to turn wrenches but we also want to inspire people to enjoy the great outdoors in their Toyota SUV or Truck.
Awesome off-road trip.. Amazing and beautiful California! Looks like you guys had a great time. Oh Tim, I think I heard a bad wheel bearing on your rig ;) Wow! Some of the courses looks quite challenging, even scary..
Glad you enjoyed it Mike. We did have a great time. Hey, not my wheel bearings. They've all been replaced. It was challenging for sure and the drop into Snake lake was a bit scary due to how steep it was. The video didn't do it justice. It was a serious fall line trail straight down.
Seriously sick! I just bought a 3rd gen beginning of the summer after watching all your repair videos- 200k miles, emissions light is on, and has lived in Illinois for 20 years so I got some frame rot repair in my future. Jealous of your California rigs haha. Can’t wait to get her into wheelin shape!
Awesome video! You guys had your work cut out for you, but looks like it was worth it once you got to the camp spot - beautiful scenery. Good thing you had your tundra brake upgrade on that steep hill, eh. Impressive maneuvering on those trails!
Great video. I believe you when you say the video doesn't do justice to the steepness, but it was evident from the way your trucks crept down that trail. Obviously, one of the great things about getting so far from civilization is the sheer quietude (cowbells excluded). You just can't replicate that down where the people live.
Glad you liked it. Yeah, getting out and away from the masses is healthy. It's crazy how loud those freaking cow bells can be. The cows were far away from us but we could hear them clearly because we were in a granite bowl and the sound carried. When I 4wheel, I don't listen to music while driving. I just listen to the sound of my rig crawling along. Our lives are full of noise and I love the peace you get being away from the city and all the noise that comes with it. I don't get the guys who crank music when they're in a beautiful peaceful area. I don't like it.
Awesome ! love following you on your trips. Gonna try that trail with our Jeep . Will you share the tracks ? I see you use Gaia . Please let me know . Thanks
It's fairly challenging no doubt. We all did a little damage, mostly to our armor like skid plates and rock rails. But, I took some bumper and fender flare damage and so did a couple of the others in that tight boulder constriction. The drop into Snake Lake is very steep. It's no joke!
And thts why discount tire doesn't give us warranty on our BFG ALL TERRAINS, cuz they said Timmy is taking all these trips with a bunch of other 4runners and shredding those tires on these trails, I blame him- and I like it LOL. WHO ELSE BLAMES TIMMY, ITS HIS FAULT LOL.
Hey Timmy, is there any trails for beginners you can recommend at Tahoe National Forest? I have 4Runner with 3 inch lift and 33s. Stock others than that.
There's trails that start right above Sierra City that lead towards the Sierra Buttes that are pretty easy trails. If you get a mapping program like Gaia, you'll see the network of trails. Henness Pass Road from Jackson Meadows Reservoir towards Pliocene Ridge Road which is near the town of Alleghany is fun mellow trail. Start exploring. If a trail gets too gnarly, just turn around.
Your videos how came a long way, thank you for your time how do you chase down vibrations with these Tacoma‘s I have an LT double cab four-wheel-drive I’ve done the tie rod ends into an outer steering rack and pinion bushings center support bearing it’s got 170,000 miles on it I’ve done the joints except for the cardinal, seems tight. It’s a TRD , I’ve done tires and rims. The wife’s getting a little frustrated in the money I spent and keep spending I know it’s a solid rust free truck. Better than a car payment. Any ideas what to do next football joints do that, I did the front differential bushings to
Mostly front end vibrations are incorrectly balanced tires, but sometimes it can be something in the rear, like your driveshaft. But if you’re looking to refresh more items up front, the lower control arm bushings are a good next step
@@judiceat-large7716 Since you're in SoCal, you should definitely join us when we do Death Valley again. We're thinking next February. I never get tired of Death Valley.
@@stevenisacoolname2 Gotcha. I'm going to do a couple day trip on the Rubicon with some guys from the Bay Area Toyota Facebook page this coming weekend. Meeting Friday at Loon Lake and camping at the gate keeper. We'll wheel in around 3 miles in at Little Sluice ( I think), camp there on Saturday night, and then drive out on Sunday the same way we came in.
Thanks Claudia. We're glad you like the video. We got lucky with the smoke when we were up there. Our nights at Snake Lake and Gold Lake were very clear. The smoke did find us on our last morning at Gold Lake and it was pretty thick.
Trans temps were at normal levels because we were in 4Lo. If we tried to climb some of those hills in 4Hi, our temps would have been through the roof. I made a video on this subject: ruclips.net/video/wqxeZvljYGc/видео.html
That one obstacle with the big boulder would be problematic. It's a tight constriction that sends you into the big boulder when your left rear tire runs up against a smaller rock on the left pushing you into the boulder. I think the only way you could avoid right rear body damage is by traveling over the rock on the left, which can be difficult. We ended up winching our buddy Anwar over the rock to avoid body damage on this 5th Gen 4runner. If you're running bigger tires, like 35s or 37s, you could probably get over the rock on the left and avoid body damage.
Wow, Way too blow a sweet location. Also, major lolz at making that switchback at 14 minutes look like it’s an obstacle. I guess content creation is an art.
Hey Corey, has anyone ever called you a trolling douchebag? No? Maybe? If not, let me be the first to tell you, you are. Blow a sweet location? There's been a 1/2 dozen or more videos made on this trail before we made ours. It's not like it's a freaking secret. You must really be a self-proclaimed expert on wheeling. Corey, your Prius wouldn't have made it though that switchback obstacle. So Corey, don't go away mad, just go away and troll somewhere else were a-holes like yourself are welcome. Props to Ali T for the camera work.

Don't know how to share tracks. If you have the Gaia app, you should be able to easily map this route from what I share in the video.
Nice road trip, thanks for sharing. I think the food could have been a little better though
I did make some good burgers the second night that people enjoyed. Didn't film it though.
Looks like a hell of a trail, to break in my new wheel bearing

You gotta check out that area. It's pretty rad!
Look into Raptor Liner, I just did my double cab in Luna rock! 02 tacoma. Looks great I think

Rock sliders would be very smart.
Is that a secondary air filter on top of the white yota's snorkel? Great idea if so
It's a pre-filter.

What was the closet gas station to the start of the trail?
At the intersection of Hwy 49 and the Gold Lake Hwy. There's a small store there with one gas pump.
Can a full size truck make it, Like a ford raptor?

after seeing your rig in action, i think its time for a rig walkaround! I want to set mine up like yours.
