      Idk the choice for Rumpel kind of shocked me a bit. He isn't amazing but he is a lot of fun and the way he accomplishes his goal is cool to watch, especially when he just decides to be unnecessarily cruel to Fiona and Shrek at the end

      He felt more like a great wedge in the characters' dynamic. Where he wasn't exactly there to impose as a person who is moreso normal to Shrek, it really felt like he was as their was hints of inevitability that Shrek is just bringing Fiona to farquad like he was assigned to do and having that be final because Shrek is sure he's not good enough. To have a villain that is emotionally there in scenes that have no mention of him screams to me as a good manipulative villain.

The best way i could describe her is like the evil cop Terminator from Terminator 2 , and the only reason she didn't win in the end was from pure luck if I remember. She had charisma, was resourceful and incredibly stubborn, no obstacle could sway her from her target, but without renouncing being funny, even if the movie had to rely on sterotypes to do so. Villains in this type of movies are represented as traditionally greedy, but the fact that no ammount of money could make her give up on hunting her trophy made her stand out so much. Death is totally a villain and not a force of nature. He isn't just there to reap Puss' soul, he is there to murder Puss. He knows he isn't supposed to, he knows it's "cheating", but he doesn't care. Puss technically should be allowed to be as careless with his lives as he wants, because they are his lives after all. But that pissed Death off. He was tired of watching this cocky so-called "legend" throw his lives away so he decided to end it. He wanted to murder Puss in Boots. He is a villain.

    Death is undoubtably a S but I kind of want to argue Jack Horner coulda been a low S because he’s fun to watch, and unapologetically villainous. Most of our villains want something that they don’t have that builds to their emotional or materialistic desires. Jack has everything but continues wanting to be a villain anyway with wanting to have all the magic for himself.

    • @Arthurmagicknight
      @Arthurmagicknight Год назад +7

      Was Death even a villain? Outside of chasing and fighting the protagonist, he didn't actually DO anything villainous. Heck, Jack should absolutely be above Death for that reason alone, since Jack actually killed, directly or indirectly, a bunch of characters within the movie while also having villainous motives and actions throughout.
      Death claimed to be ACTUAL "death", yet was never present during any character's death in the movie at all. I'd argue that actually makes his claim suspect. His entire shtick was hunting down Puss just because Puss basically spit in the face of his job with his arrogance and devil-may-care attitude. That's not exactly "evil" so much as just petty.

      @@Arthurmagicknight I mean, considering he did indeed spend the whole movie hunting puss, and the fact that he's a wolf, I feel like it's possible that "Death" is less an individual being, and our death was just the one assigned to puss, hence the room for him to have a more personal grudge without having the issue that always happens in myths when death is preoccupied or captured where no one else can die during that time where they're unavailable.

    I would put Dave the Octopus at B tier. He's a funny villain with understandable motives and a personal grudge against Skipper and the penguins. I wouldn't put him up to A tier, though, because from the penguins' perspective, he's more of a plot point than a foil. The characters actually challenging the penguins into character development were The North Wind agents working against Dave, at least as I remember it. Still an enjoyable villain nevertheless.

      @@KyurekiHana Fun fact: Apparently in early production for the second movie, Valka (Hiccup's mom) was meant to be the villain for the second movie, with Drago saved for the third. She would basically have become like a protector of dragons who thought that humans and dragons cannot coexist without hurting one another and tried to use her Alpha to take all of Berk's dragons so that they could be protected from humans. Drago would have been a distant threat that Valka knew about (and part of the reason she believes the dragons need to be protected)
      She would have then had a redemption arc and helped to fight Drago when he arrived in the third movie.

Drago is huge and intimidating, killed Stoic, can still fight hand to hand with only one arm, and controls the dragons in a way that wasn’t done before. There was also this sense of dread when others talked about him. Both Hiccup’s parents urged him not to go up against Drago, so he had already had this legacy built before Hiccup met him.

I just love John Lithgow's voice acting as well as the animation. I just wish they did more for him though outside of the first movie and the 4D ride. The backstory they gave him from Shrek The Musical could potentially be explored a bit more. He was also amazing in the musical as well. If I had to choose between John Lithgow and Chris Seiber..... It's a tie. They're both great as Lord Farquaad. Since I was 12, I practiced doing Farquaad's voice, which actually inspired me to pursue voice acting as a side career. Idk about you guys, but if Schaffrillas can put Tamatoa on S Tier out of favoritism (which I don't blame him if he actually did), I can put Lord Farquaad up there.

    I used to own the movie flushed away on DVD back when I was 7. My mom got it and the BEE movie as a gift and I saw the back cover of Flushed Away and the frog had that grin 44:44 on the back cover. Just seeing that grin scared me enough to hide the movie in our vacation home under a couch where hopefully a few days would pass and we would leave it never to be seen again. 3 days before we were going to leave (I know because I wanted to leave the movie so bad and I was counting down) my dad found the movie and passed it back to me on a kitchen island. Little did he know that seeing the cartridge was going to cause me to scream and cry in fear. After a few years I watched the movie on Cartoon Network and got over my fear. I say that it’s a good movie though.

    DuBois is a total mood and a badass, I’d argue she’s a better villain than Death since she has a very similar concept but is absolutely hilarious and ridiculous. It’s a shame you both skipped out on Madagascar 3 as it’s arguably the most heartfelt and mature film in the franchise.

      L opinion, she's funny but she isn't nearly as cool and her dynamic with the hero isn't nearly as well done or interesting. Definitely doesn't go above or below A.

      I had watched Madagascar 3, 3 times over because of how I enjoyed her moments and the "Firework" moments. Only those, and I still remember her iconic absurd action.
      Intimidating like Cruella De Vill but France and more of the physical side. And she's much more fun to watch than the protagonist, I legit forget whatever Alex has been doing through out the movie

      Tai Lung is also very complex and he is a grey character as opposed to Shen but I think that's what makes Shen so incredible. Morally grey villains are the norm of modern cinema and Tai Lung is definitely a great example of that but to make a clearly evil person feel so real, so nuanced, so deep is a feat in itself and why so many people love Shen.@@JohnAdams_NotQuincy

    I'll never get the height of Shen's popularity. I understand he has the most to do with Po but that doesn't really make him a good villain on its own. Tai Lung had so much more interesting motivation and sad backstory while being a real mirror to what Po wanted to be and the sad life not of his choosing.

    • @davidc.
      @davidc. Год назад +3

      Tai just doesn't have enough scenes to showcase himself imo. Usually he's just being badass when he's on screen until his fight with Shifu which was the best scene from the movie. Also the final fight doesn't really show him in the best light, Shens final fight was cool af while his wasn't taken as seriously. Still a S tier that's just why i think people overlook him

    • @subhasishghosh6924
      @subhasishghosh6924 5 месяцев назад

      Shen is so great because you see his own fears and past consume him more and more throughout the film. He knows he's gone in the wrong but now it's too far to turn back, too many sacrifices have been made.
      Tai Lung has maybe a sadder backstory (big maybe) and is a more grey character but in terms of depth and complexity, Shen remains unmatched.
