    This is why there should be an armory on board every single ship. Locked by the captain, and sealed by a port inspector. If seal is present and unbroken, then nothing has been tampered with. If broken, all weapons must be accounted for on said inventory sheet... this isn't hard

You couldn't possibly fit enough of them on one of there boats to make one man with a shotgun inaffective at stopping them. Imagine trying to climb a rope up the side of a 3 story building while someones on the roof with a shotgun.

    • @svscared
      @svscared Год назад +1

      @@Powerstroke2003 You're focusing on only one part of that potential situation without looking at the whole picture. First of all there are other defense mechanisms a ship like that could have aside from firearms to make sure no one climbs aboard who shouldn't be. How about an electronic forcefield of some kind around the upper outer exterior of the ship? Or a high powered water hose that can be aimed at any assailants? Or at the very least nearby military vessels ready to assist? If it's a large group of pirates then one guy with a gun isn't going to be able to do much especially since many of them would presumably be armed and only a few of them would be climbing up at a time which leaves the rest of them free to provide covering fire.

      @@derekcroft2055 Because ships are often inspected either before, or while in, port. Most countries won't allow a vessel carrying weapons into port - and if caught with them, the captain and crew face some pretty serious criminal charges. Smuggling weapons (which is the normal charge for something like this) in Singapore, for example, warrants the death penalty.

      @@Taserman_El441 There are states/cites that have laws that _do_ limit the 2nd Amendment, even though they should never have been allowed to do so in the first place. "Shall not be infringed" was about as explicitly clear and absolute as you could ask for at the time, and yet we've got over 10k gun laws across the country that infringe on everyone's natural rights as a person.
      But on your point about docking in other countries with more strict policies on firearms, as long as the ship is United States flagged and registered and the firearms stay onboard, and most likely locked up as well, while in port I don't feel like that would cause problems, or at least it _shouldn't_ cause problems because it shouldn't be any of the port countries' business as long as the weapons stay aboard the vessel and aren't being carried or handled in an unsafe or threatening manner.

    I love how every other comment is ‘Why don’t they have guns?! This never would have happened if every ship in the world was armed’. Not realizing that safety and security measures are mostly put into place AFTER accidents or incidents happen.
    Whether it be simple warnings on everyday items like ‘warning: hot’ on coffee cups because of the lady that got burned from her overly hot coffee or major incidents like 9/11 that got airline security a major upgrade.
    This very incident is what led to a lot of shipping company’s hiring armed security groups to protect their ships in this part of the world. Search it on RUclips, there are tons of videos of security on ships firing in approaching pirates.
    Also, arming ships costs money, a lot of money. I highly doubt that before this, greedy CEO’s would ever shell out that kind of cash for security that would not be needed most of the time. But because of this incident, the lawsuits and bad PR made it cheaper to hire security.

      Cost isnr really the issue here. A few or just one gun would ve prevent this from happening. The thing is that it is illegal for these people to carry weapons, even for defence, and also it causes troubles when travelling to other countries. That is why you are pretty much forced to require an expensive security team

      No, ships that big are extremely slow to start or stop moving, or change direction. All those heading changes the Captain was yelling out just before they were boarded would have taken a minute or two for the ship to even start reacting. Molotov cocktails made with gasoline would be wonderful weapons as soon as the pirates hit the deck.
