I listen to the usual version during spring, because it makes me feel energetic and awake, as if I’m being raised from an eternal faint. This version sounds like autumn to me, like the last golden rays of the Sun fading away into the trees, and then falling down with orange leafs. This version feels like a beautiful ending, like something that I would hear while dying knowing how beautiful my life was
Never did understand the lyric, but this opened on my wedding video! The band always seemed so self conscious - not realising we'd still be celebrating this genius 40 years later.
She's one of the greatest and most unique, and definitely number one in the style of music she performs, I've never heard anything like her vocals and voice timbers.
+5eurocups2005 Quite right sir. My mate brought a plastic shopping bag to my house full of Cocteaus records around 1984. I didn't like it at first. A year later I was obsessed. Saw them play in Liverpool when I was 15 years old. Still one of my favourite bands (if not my favourite). There is nothing like this these days. Absolutely nothing.
Her sensitively and so feelingly voice is outstanding and amazing, awesome and unique to all times after!!!It's a huge legacy of music!!!Greetings to all fans from Russia!!!;-)))Musicians are good too just fantastic!!!It's some atmospheric of a beauty depressive and sadness joining in one, makes me cry sometimes, how is beautiful...
There are many, many imitators, but none of them come close to the original. This band was from another fucking dimension. I was a young child when they broke up and I'd give a kidney to be able to go back and see them live during this era in particular. Words can't even describe how much their music means to me, the soundtrack to some of my most memorable experiences.
How weird must it be for Lizzy and Robin's kid to browse youtube and come across stuff like this. "Oh cool it's mum and dad being actual 80's legends" - Epic !
well the julee cruise songs was Lynch's attempt to recreate the feel of Song to the Siren. they couldn't afford the rights so they made their own song for Blue Velvet
For me, lyrics often get in the way of appreciating a song. I love emotive songs, but a given set of lyrics may not fit me at any given moment. A song like this can be used to paint an emotional canvas that's beautiful wherever you are.
This was my first exposure to the Cocteau Twins. I had this on the end of a VHS and would rewatch it time and time again. I loved it. Then my parents taped over the VHS and I thought it lost for ever. 20 years later it's back and as good as ever...
I actually had the pleasure of meeting this tape reel after a show at the (unintelligible) in Edinburgh early '80's and it was one of the most down to Earth tape reels you could ever meet. Magic.
You know there are tape reel s , and there are tape reels , glad to find you found a tape reel that you realy got into Thank God for tape reels !!!!!!!!! sado !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Twins got me through several teenage hormone crisis and a couple of broken hearts (including the one given me by the girl that took me to see them live in the late 80s). I will always be in love with that voice.
kids today just don't know....................all the fetty waps and flakka wakkas don't compare to this sublime perfection of the past.....COME BACK COCTEAU TWINS!!!!
Mind blowing, beautiful, befuddling, wondrous and utterly unique. Light years ahead of its time and still a head and shoulders above the shit kids listen to today. Thank god for the Cocteaus.
So glad to have seen this band. Many times they made me melt into the atmosphere of the gig. And no stupid phones in sight. Great times. Fraser is the voice of God.
My God(dess), I remember watching this on The Tube age about 13. Absolutely changed all i'd been shown within my family about music...how it could feel and make you feel. I had it recorded on video and used to play it all then time. Was obsessed!!! I think Brian Eno's early ambient stuff was on this episode, too.
I didn't know that hearing Liz's voice could still give me the shivers... and then I heard this. She is such a mix of strength and fragilty... pure like a child yet sophisticated at the same time. Thank you for posting this.
I remember in the 80s watching this video over and over at a party for hours just before we went to see them at the Barrowlands in 86 still love it now.
He draws his horses Pretend your anger And draws his horses Being chosen also Please get up Fall, please get up Fall, please get up Don't ruin yourself So see and hear Sultitan itan So see and hear Plain tiger iger In my heart Set you right up In my heart I sing this song Back you up How messed I am Back you up I consider So he got up I must see him I must see him And all got up Sore got he Apalled got up Apalled got up I'm in this song So see and hear Sultitan itan So see and hear Plain tiger iger background: And my defeat and hope (x3) And sad and hope (x3) Might not feel down Don't listen, now
I was 14 when this came out. I have never tired of their music and I never will. It is timeless beauty that is unmatched. Their influence on others is massive.
Liz is beautiful. The guitar is stratospheric. That band , that Story between them. This night-club . GRANGEMOUTH Scotland. The guitar solo at the end is beautiful and this sound when liz fraser comes Back singing
I'm so thankful this video is still up and can be shared. So many people are missing out on this Gem of a band. This is my favourite song of theirs. Liz looks Sad and beautiful singing this.
It's just. the one... hands down. .. jaw dropper. ,she's the best. .. off the charts. nobody regardless how fAmous they become roll ever do a who's better against Elizabeth f
I know it's just my imagination, but when the camera first pulls away from Simon Raymonde near the end of the video, the amp behind him makes him look like he's wearing a cape.
I remember watching this on The Tube before going out in Bristol town on a Friday evening. This was when Bristol was obscure and not the cool place it is now. Was totally unexpected to see Pink Orange Red and it fairly blew my mind, as I was already aware of it from the EP. Then it was off to the Porthouse and all the clubbing ‘joy’ that had to offer! It’s different here now...
I was fortunate enough to see them at the Brixton Academy which was brilliant but then I saw them at the Royal Albert Hall which was just mind blowing! Top Band!
David Williams the lyrics of this song are printed on the inner sleeve of the 12" though. I agree many of her words are sound poems, but they did give us hints to a few tracks on their records through the years
To me creating music is a miracle, especially this kind with such individuality. I wish I could create music so interesting. One of my fave pieces of music.
weird reminds me of a dream I had where a this sort of hazy painting with this same color scheme slowy rose from my dying body. never really knew this bad, cool stuff.
I miss these guys so much. The music world is missing its most creative force. And what a force to be reckoned with. They were the greatest and most original group to make music in the history of music making. And Elizabeth Fraser was a one of kind of singer. I love you Elizabeth. Thank you for being alive.
Fantastic tune! Me and my little sister bought the vinyl 12" of this song when it came out. We played it over and over, so uplifting and calming! Liz is an amazing vocalist and artist. ❤❤❤❤
This was the FIRST Cocteau Twins song I ever heard. Saying it changed my life would be an understatement. Althought the studio version is superior, it's nice to see her sing it live.
i am not the first to say this . when i saw them at the powerhouse in birmingham . set lasted 50 min . came back on crying . rewound brum thing and done the set again all 3 of yous amazing

One of the best songs ever recorded in history of popular music. And so many great memories.... I will always love the sound and emotions of Cocteau Twins.... xsx
I'm so glad there is footage of her singing. It helps ease the blow that they stopped being a band. She is unworldly.
I listen to the usual version during spring, because it makes me feel energetic and awake, as if I’m being raised from an eternal faint. This version sounds like autumn to me, like the last golden rays of the Sun fading away into the trees, and then falling down with orange leafs. She's singing names of butterflies in Latin
😂😂😂
Still as beautiful in 2020 as it was in 1985 when it floored me at age 12!!!
It's an old recording you daft sod
I know what you mean and completely agree. I was 20 back in 85 and remember this like it was yesterday.
Same for me at 19. Taped this on VHS when it was shown on The Tube. My dad taped over it with a Liverpool Man U match. Never forgave him 🙂
Liz is an angel...but don't forget the rest of the band. :) They are all great on their own, but the combined force is enough to shake the earth.
Liz looks some freaky alien space princess who's just teleported onto the stage (This is a compliment).
Love her.
Go read the Secret Sun blog...
There is no doubt that she is the greatest female vocalist of all time.
She's one of the greatest and most unique, and definitely number one in the style of music she performs, I've never heard anything like her vocals and voice timbers.
What?
5eurocups2005 Not even close! Natalie Merchant is number one!
+5eurocups2005 no doubt here.

The vocal ending of this song is magnificient. Liz is a national treasure.

Yes, except it's cut short!
You didn't hear the end. The recording ends before the end of the song!
Treasure
world treasure

I had her as friend on Myspace back in the 00s and I must say that she seemed to be as quirky as her parents, so it is very likely she thinks that
The biggest injustice is that CT didn't play the soundtrack to Twin Peaks. Badalementi ows so much to them.
well the julee cruise songs was Lynch's attempt to recreate the feel of Song to the Siren. they couldn't afford the rights so they made their own song for Blue Velvet
badalementi and cocteau twins are completely different
@@fadedSF wasn’t song to the siren this mortal coil?
Badalementi recreated a certain sound that was inspired by Cocteau Twins for David Lynch.
@@tarabrightstar if you say so. the theme song?
Its such a beautiful way to sing. Its as if she's using the human voice as a pure instrument, to convey the things you've stated.
For me, lyrics often get in the way of appreciating a song. I love emotive songs, but a given set of lyrics may not fit me at any given moment. A song like this can be used to paint an emotional canvas that's beautiful wherever you are.
THIS IS THE FIRST SONG I EVER HEARD FROM THE COCTEAU TWINS I HAVE BEEN TOTTALY BEEN BLOW AWAY BY THEIR MUSIC EVER SINCE THANK YOU COCTEAU TWINS.
You know if you turn it down a bit you wont have to shout so much
This was my first exposure to the Cocteau Twins. I had this on the end of a VHS and would rewatch it time and time again. I loved it. Then my parents taped over the VHS and I thought it lost for ever. 20 years later it's back and as good as ever...
wow i would have been horrified if that happened to me
I had it on Betamax - taped it from "The Tube"
I actually had the pleasure of meeting this tape reel after a show at the (unintelligible) in Edinburgh early '80's and it was one of the most down to Earth tape reels you could ever meet. Magic.
You know there are tape reel s , and there are tape reels , glad to find you found a tape reel that you realy got into Thank God for tape reels !!!!!!!!! sado !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the realest
What was on the tape reel? I thought the drums were the only thing on tape?
Dan He's taking the piss and making out they mimed which they didn't. It was only drums in the tape reel.
No! Clearly this comment is meant to poke fun at shameless name droppers
The Twins got me through several teenage hormone crisis and a couple of broken hearts (including the one given me by the girl that took me to see them live in the late 80s).
I will always be in love with that voice.
I'm gonna miss it when I die. I love you Liz
Liz not only are you beautiful, you are are the best female vocalist ever!
Gay
Liz's hair and makeup are my ideal of human beauty
kids today just don't know....................all the fetty waps and flakka wakkas don't compare to this sublime perfection of the past.....COME BACK COCTEAU TWINS!!!!
Oh, OK, I see, let's compare them to rappers. Are you serious?
what a boomer take
This is beyond music. This is Art in the process of being made! And we are lucky enough to be able to see it over & over again!
Saw this on the Tube around 83 and just couldnt get over how unbelievable Liz's voice was. 30 years later my opinion hasn't changed.
Haunting, pure, beautiful
Anytime I hear this song I'm at a loss to explain how good it really is. It's just perfect.
One of the greatest songs ever created.
Saw them in 1984 December Glasgow pavilion.amazing.mesmerizing.still gives me shivers.she was so beautiful in real life.👍👍👍happy days.
Man, I'm glad I was born in 64 and experienced this era of music.
Mind blowing, beautiful, befuddling, wondrous and utterly unique. Light years ahead of its time and still a head and shoulders above the shit kids listen to today. Thank god for the Cocteaus.
I love this band so much--I can't contain it.

What songs do you guys find yourselves listening to on repeat?
Mauro Woody: Thievery Corporation and there are more if you're interested

One of the more underrated groups of the era.

her hair was exactly like mine at 17 ( dude here). Now I'm bald. Sigh.
One of the most romantic songs ever.
The voice from Elisabeth is amazing ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

He draws his horses
Pretend your anger
And draws his horses
Being chosen also
Please get up
Fall, please get up
Fall, please get up
Don't ruin yourself
So see and hear

So see and hear

In my heart
Set you right up
In my heart
I sing this song
Back you up
How messed I am
Back you up
I consider
So he got up
I must see him
I must see him
And all got up

So see and hear

background:
And my defeat and hope (x3)

Latin taxonomy of moths and butterflies.
I knew it!!!!!
Jonathan LeBlanc that’s Melonella, not this song.
Isn't she asking for a donner kebab with salad in the last verse?
One of my favorite CT songs. I love this EP.
Reminds me of catching the bus home from Dudley College on a Friday and looking forward to watching The Tube. The greatest music tv show ever.

Still sounds wonderful after all these years, just ground breaking, heart rendering fuckin wonderful
This is my favorite version
Her voice, her eyes, her perfect lips, oh man, too gorgeous for words
hay un algo de melancolía en la melodía de esta canción que ella interpreta de manera esplendida
I like this song! ...the sound of guitar is incredible and beautiful!

So frustrating that it's cut short...... But thank you for uploading. I love this
The voice guitars and bass make all their music 🎶 a masterpiece
Been trying to find some music like Twins but there's nothing even close to it.
Like I once read: I wish I could live in a Cocteau Twins song.
try slowdive
go and see cirque du soleil non-beatles shows! excellent
Try dead can dance they started around the dmsame time and sound alot like her.
try Them Are Us Too

One of their BEST songs ever!!!!!!!! ...I am transported!
What baby Bjork must have listened to as a toddler while getting an art grant to film herself playing with blocks.
Bjork was born in 1965...but she has from time to time admitted being a Cocteau fan
Thanks for sharing. Sometimes I dream of me playing drums with them, hehe.
No words....
Thank you for posting
THANK YOU COCTEAU TWINS for such beauty

She's singing Latin names of butterflies
