Siege going with the Cyberpunk aesthetic for Cybertronian modes was the smartest thing Hasbro had done in awhile. A shame it wasn't a longer lasting line.
@@hotwheelsbrothers687 Aren't these all part of the Generations line? Like they're all sublines: Prime Wars Trilogy, War for Cybertron trilogy, Legacy, even Studio Series, etc.?
@@foldabotZ No, wfc is a new trilogy (War for Cybertron, Earthrise, and Kingdom), Prime wars was just a toy line, and Studio Series just makes movie accurate figures
For a mainline figure, it looks amazing. An absolute shame that the alt mode is a half assed block of nothing. When it comes to Cybertronian modes, Soundwave really has gotten the short end of the stick.
That could be interesting with the cassette-icons. Hollow out his cannon barrel add a launch mechanism and turn then into canisters instead of cassettes
Agreed, just needs a mount right behind the chestplate and maybe some minor additions to give a more clear vehicle mode to it. Maybe a third-party company will make an add-on kit for it?
I'm so happy I get to watch these videos the day I get the robot like I used too growing up, I missed your channel and missed this fandom so bad. Thanks for 10+ years of happy memories Emgo, you're a real one. ❤
According to the concepts, he's supposed to be a low-riding speeder type hovercraft, something that would be able to go at exceedingly high velocity, while hugging the ground at its lowest.
I was extremely worried that his arms would be super short and stubby from the Hasbro product photos. This will likely tie for my favorite Soundwave figure with the Siege one. I can't wait to get this guy. :)
You forgot something- It can be painted in green and you have the master chief from halo....which then painted in metallic grey and it transform to robocop..... The alt mode seems that they held a competition between the designers - and this is the most likely result that came out without harming the design of the robot mode.
I always think of a mode like this as a hovercar or with Soundwave, a mobile emitter platform for either communications with his fellow Decepticons or to jam Autobot frequencies!
Kinda like how g1 Soundwave turned into a literal pole, I think it’s also possible his alt mode here is supposed to be just a random alien box with no function, so he hides out in the open or in an Autobot base, autobots walk over him or sit on him, then when they leave he transforms back to robot mode and keeps going
I see people saying this guy's alt mode looks bad, but in all honesty, this alt mode reminds me of the "Cybertronian Car" that he transformed into in the DS versions of War For Cybertron. So, to me at least, it doesn't look that bad
The alt mode kind of looks like the hover transport tanks from Star Wars Rouge One. Although the best alt mode for a G1 style none cassette Soundwave is still an APC, wether it’s the RID2015, the Animated, Fall of cybertron or the IDW Earth mode truck from RID, it just works best for him
I don’t know if anyone here remembers an old RUclips Transformers reviewer by the name of BikerTrashWolf But that alt mode is what he’d call a “HasbroSaysSoFormer”
Found this guy at Walmart on New Year's day and I could not for the life of me figure out what I was doing wrong with the knees in transformation. Granted I'm never transforming him because that alt mode is eh, but still nice to know how
Yea, I got my Soundwave on the last day of 2021, so that was a win for me. Also can't wait for Brawn, Wheeljack, and Ratchet review and your end skits with Optimus too. Lucky this Prime don't do the Rise things.
Soundwaves Robot mode is giving me some real robocop vibes and as for his alt mode I do think it's supposed to be some kind of cybertron hover vehicle of some kind. It reminds me of those space crafts that the rebels from star wars used against those AT-AT walkers.
Though I personally like the dotm look more(would be better in blue and a visor) this is awesome looking and slowly growing on me, I'm definitely picking him up.
His battle ship tank mode could be changed to make it look more like a space tank. Looks like the legs could be partly extended behind like jets or canons, and the arms folded in reverse to be like either underside gun booster jets or on top like that. Maybe.
Maybe Soundwave is an mp-3 player, since this is a Bumblebee movie figure and Cybertronian tech is more advanced than ours and the movie took place in the 1980's.
Tried to post a picture of the comic page he is based on. That being said I’m sure someone has probably mentioned it. It looks like the alt mode from the comic.
As strange as the alt-mode looks I kind of like it. In a way I feel as if they were trying to stick to his G1 form by turning his tapedeck mode into a sort of flying vehicle mode.
Off topic: Emgo, you getting the OS transcraft BB? Mine just arrived! Let me tell ya, judging by how much you liked the original, you are gonna bloosh yourself with this.
They could've done better with the alt mode, like for those gaps between the limbs and chest. But hey, if I have to choose between this alt mode and Mechanical Alliance, without doubt I will pick this one.
i really do think this is an awesome figure and cant wait for the rest to come out. but i do have one gripe and its that he cant press his own button (this is a small small gripe btw)
Figured that Emgo would review this figure. I'm looking for this Soundwave after I missed out on Leader Class Soundwave in the mid to late-2010's. His robot mode looks good and chunky and his alt mode is adequate. I do hope that he'll be upscaled at some point, though. Shame that this figure doesn't have a Minicon included, but one must remember that Robots in Disguise SUV Soundwave didn't have a Minicon included, either.
Someone photoshopped Spider-Man 1 Green Goblin onto him, so thinking of him as a Cybertronian glider works for me 😂

Except for when he's a street light. That's a pretty long stick imo.
I feel like a boxier military truck, or a some kind of boxy land rover would look better for his alt modes
I managed to figure out how to get him in the lamppost alt mode
11:06 Honestly this would be a great chestplate for a combiner
Honestly I think it just needs some paint and an alternate mounting port for the cannon and it'll actually look like a hover tank

Emgo is one of the few Transformers fans I know who shares my taste in toys, even the "bad" ones.
If you turn soundwave into his alt mode and look inside the clear windshield you will see two seats! Making this some kind of vehicle.
I personally love soundwave's alt mode, feels like a vehicle out of bladerunner

At least it matches his purpose as intelligence specialist.
I'm surprised his hotpocket mode had that many steps to change into. I thought he would just fold in half

It looks like Astro Megazord.
"You can't even fly in a straight line."

As much as I love this Soundwave, I really wish more effort was put into his alt mode. It's such a nothing-burger of an alt mode. . .
They had a really good idea on paper, but putting the idea onto the mold really didn't go that well.
Not like it really mattered, the goal was to nail the one mode he did have
I mean he never transforms in the movie, so they make one up.

Soundwaves cybertronian Alt Mode is that of a Cybertronian Armored Hover Car, similar to that of his evergreen Alt Mode.
Should have transformed into his G1 cartoon telephone pole mode instead of a galactic pancake.
It's either some kind of hover-car, or a Cybertronian hip flask.
This is Soundwave's greatest alt mode: b l u e t o a s t
His battle ship tank mode could be changed to make it look more like a space tank. Looks like the legs could be partly extended behind like jets or canons, and the arms folded in reverse to be like either underside gun booster jets or on top like that. Maybe.

He wasn’t flying he was fallen with style
that soundwave needs a hug, he looks so sad
He's not a cybertronian he's a slabatronian
His Alt Mode could be an equivalent of a Cybertronian Scout Vehicle, so I guess it makes sense.
If only there was some short format social media where the end skits could be watched over and over.
