- CN owned four unique Canadian built SD38-2s that used the CN reporting mark - one has since been retired and sold (CN also has US built SD38-2s that use the BLE, DMIR & EJE reporting marks). The four CN units were built for Northern Alberta Railways in 1975 as NAR 401 - 404 and were used to haul heavy grain & ore trains up the seven mile grade from Peace River to McLennan. However it was soon found that four units on the head end pulled knuckles and three units were routinely used.
When CN acquired the NAR in January 1981 they numbered the four units 5700 - 5703 and in 1996 renumbered them 1650 - 1653. The locomotives are seen at work in Alberta and British Columbia.
All three of them are still being used around the North Battleford-Vermillion areas. I’ve seen them a few times in Edmonton for servicing
As always, great work! Still in service?
+NewBoston Truck 1 Yes three are still in the Lloydminster area apparently.
Yeah 3 are still with CN the other works a Cargill elevator serviced by CN

Keep posting the videos and I will keep watching. Take care.
+Luiz Carlos Great. I have lots more footage but editing the videos takes time. More to come!
Are the Northern Alberta Railways 50' box cars being used in British Columbia?
+Andrew Falconer Yhere were only a small number and I have seen then in Nova Scotia so I guess they travel system wide.
gostei muito, pode por mais vídeos que vou assistir todos. Um abraço
+Luiz Carlos Sorry I do not understand.
+David Othen Per Google Translate, from Portuguese: "enjoyed, I can for more videos that will assist everyone. A hug"
Thank you.
Did CN have any sd38ac's?
AFAIK no. The only Canadian SD38s of any type that CN had were these four from the NAR. They also had US built SD38-2s and 26 GP38ACs
