I coach youth, and some of my players are not at the D-Line technique understanding yet. So, If a defender is head up on a O-line player, during a down block assignment, is the oline player blocking the head up defender, or is he leaving that defender for a gap/backer defender? Also, i understand that the in-depth answer is that it depends on the play call. Thank you for what you do Coach!!
Coach how do you handle a blitz. Let’s say that play side inside backer comes down over the front side guard that’s going to pull. Does the center take him or would the center be down blocking on a 1 tech backside?

We would not block that defender as the player outside of us would take him.
I run the Evashevski Wing-T and we run Gap-Down-Backer as our basic blocking scheme. Great explanation!

We use wing t language in our single wing. Very easy once you understand the definitions
Would you ever have the TE bang to backer, meaning clip the end to help wing before going to backer?
We do not but that is an option

How do you treat an inside shade (2i, 4i, 7 tech)?
We would consider that an inside or (gap) player and block him down.

We would have the center block back - and the play side guard take the blitzer
Would you still pull guard if you have double A gap pressure?
Usually not, unless we have game planned for that look. Our auto adjust would be to keep playside guard home.
