- I've cut at least a dozen chainrings off of bikes with these knipex bolt cutters. If you're looking for the best tool for bike mechanics and 1x mtb conversion these make it super easy.

You'll need to make 2 cuts on opposite sides. I believe I precut this for the reel.

@@YourOwnAdventure lol idk why they not being posted. Just saying nip-x are the best. Been using them for 20 years or so. Yours are the newer locking/ spring loaded version. Just missing the spring. Made for fencing. But great for anything
How did you removed the spring?
I do carpentry and also automobile and appliance repairs these tools are one of my go-tos. Super important from so many different things.. then again the rest of my 50 pairs of Knipex pliers is a nice collection to pick from.
But how would you put in the new sprocket chain ?
A new chainring meant for 1x MTB will fit perfectly based on the diameter of your crank bolt pattern.

Mine came in super handy when installing fenders. Those mounting arms can be made of some serious spring steel and almost always need trimming.
that's why the instructions say to measure it and use a hacksaw. Of course, I didn't follow that instruction either. Used a spoke cutting plier. Had a headache after from the shockwave going through me. Use a rag overtop to avoid a missile flying across the room.
