Thanks for sharing, I’d like to add:
1. As long as with the same character and grammar, they all belong to the Chinese dialect, such as Mandarin, Cantonese, Wu, Xiang, Min, Gan.
2. Korean and Japanese were deeply influenced by Chinese, but different characters and grammar.
3. Before the 1910s, the Koreans used the Chinese characters and but they used Hangul for spelling after the collapse of the Qing dynasty.
4. Because there are a lot of Chinese characters in Japanese, we can use Chinese characters for simple communication.
5. Shanghainese belongs to the Chinese dialect Wu, Wu is used in South Jiangsu and North Zhejiang.
zhmz888 From the early 20th century to the 1980s, Korean characters were a mix of Korean Hangul and Chinese.
1. The varieties of Han can differ in syntax. They have sounds not found in the other varieties of Han. For example, Southern Min has B and G sounds which Mandarin and Cantonese don't have .

Hey Kaja, thanks for making this amazing video that shows China from the your unique perspective. It's so funny to know something that's been around all the time are not actually common in the other parts of the world, like mung bean ice cream, lol. It would be nice if you can make English subtitle by any chance. By the way, your Chinese caption is pretty good.
I got a surprising interesting fact for you.
If you go to jail as a Chinese for murdering your boss for not paying salary for a couple months you'll only get detained for a few days before released with a mild warning if this was the reason.
In this way at least the staff don't get punished for taking revenge when the boss/owner give them a difficult life.
If you run a small shop somewhere expect that local police will try to ask for money for "protection" failing to do so can get you pinned down for a crime you did not commit.
In my case i had to keep them happy by being their guest in KTV so they could try to impress their dates that they had international "friendship"
If you you break any law in traffic have a large wad of cash ready in the car , this way you can bribe officers before the crime has been made official. (I.E) entered the computer system sent to Beijing.
Knowing the right people can get you an upgraded visa.
Working for the wrong people could result in you not receiving salary upon visa renewal.
Some companies have bribed PSB with the salary you should receive in return you never get your passport back nor your visa (that goes to the company owner)

Getting married there will only give you right to stay not to work.
Caught working on a marriage visa can get you barred from reentry for up to 10 years.
Most foreigners with Chinese spuses "help" their spuse business when in reality owning and running the operation.

As a people who brith and growing in Hong Kong,
I can say that buying pear as a gifts is not a problem.
However, if you cut it in pieces. that is the problem.
Because in cantonese, cut the pear is 分梨. it sound like 分離
(this word have many meaning, normally us as divorce or break up)

The longest bridge (Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge) is 55km only, not 165km.
As a Shanghaiese let me say it's still just dialect. Pronunciation is big difference but Grammar and vocabulary still share the same. Maybe few words are tricky to find a corresponding writing words in Mandarain but this happens in pretty much every other dialects let's say， just like the Pronunciation part.
Gentle reminder, Chinese people are very care about whether the taiwan belongs to China when you show the map. For example 4.10.
"Shanghainese" is actually a dialect called "wu", which is generally spoken in Shanghai and some regions around Shanghai.
With most dialect in the world (not all), it has minor changes which other dialect speakers will be able to communicate. With the dialects in China, a Cantonese speaking person will not be able to communicate with a Shanghainese speaking person at all if they spoke their native dialects. So she is trying to make a point that it is almost like a different language (spoken).
I would like to see a similar video about Poland, because my neighbors come from Poland and they are very kind.
So fighting for the bill part - the rule is:
(1) everyone appears fighting damn hard for the bill
(2) everyone hoping others hold it for one more round of "no you step away let me pay this time"
(3) someone fought slightly harder than others would realize he/she will make the pay
(4) he will be like "damn" in the heart narrative but pay it rather doubtless
(5) everyone others will be like - "it will be definitely my turn in next round"
(6) there might not be a "next round"
(7) if there is indeed another round, the one who paid last time will fight "slightly less hard" this time.
The scene only happens when it is none-business or none-closest-friends. cuz in business you want to achieve bigger goal by paying the bill. And with closest friends, you know there will be a next round and the favor will always be returned along with friendship.

Also: 有空再聚(meet up when free) usually means that "we probably won't see each other again if not necessary" LOL
Make sure you reach for your wallet in the pant pocket at the same time as you are fighting for the bill. The trick is that your wallet is actually in my coat pocket.
I prefer going Dutch. If I have to pay today, I'll tell my friend or friends "next time your turn to pay". But with my girl friend, I always end up paying. Sigh!!

The Taiwanese accent is a dialect of Fujian Province in mainland China, not really Mandarin. After the Kuomintang failed, it brought the accent from Fujian to Taiwan. I think it was acceptable during the olden days because people mostly lived in rural areas. The spit could easily be absorbed into the earth.
Strange thing is people speak different languages but they are more cohesive than people in the US.

Originally, the second tallest building in the world was meant to be the Ping An Financial Center in Shenzhen at 660 meter.

The top portion of the building was meant to be a pyramid with a spire.
However, at the final stage of its construction in 2016, it did not build the Spire. By doing so, it would not exceed the height of the Shanghai Tower (632 meter) that was completed one year earlier.
But that change made the shape of Ping An Financial Center looking a little odd. It also dropped down to be the 4th tallest building in the world, just about one meter shorter than the Makkah Royal Clock Tower in Mecca.
Leaving Shanghai Tower as the tallest building in China, and Shenzhen's Ping An Center as the second tallest, is in line with the financial center pecking order in China.
Funny thing is the more south u go in the eastern side the more it becomes a language rather than a dialect (excluding autonomous regions within mainland🇨🇳）. If u think Shanghainese 滬語 is hard. try 閩南語 Min used in 福建Fujian and 台灣 Taiwan🇹🇼 or 粵語 Yue Cantonese spoken in 廣東Guangdong and 香港🇭🇰and 澳門🇲🇴. These are more like languages due to the characters used does not exist in daily mandarin like 有冇 in 粵語 Cantonese and 袂䆀 or 媠 in Taiwanese Min.

The warm water thing is crazy. I live in Shanghai. I remember when I first moved here and I was sitting in bank waiting to be served and one of the bank clerks brought me a cup of warm water. 😊

Maybe I am wrong but at least relatively young or even my parents generation in/around Shanghai (JiangSu & ZheJiang Province) don't mind number 4 so much, people living on 4th floor (including 14, 24. . . ) with no issue at all.
But I did notice when I went to HK and ChinaTowns in some cities like London. Toronto & Montreal (well basically built by early immigration from FuJian or HK). . . lots of buildings don't have 4 related floors, quite shocking and confusing to me (never seen that in Shanghai). And this reminds me some of my friends from HK and TW also have a strong belief in FungShui which is also quite rare in Shanghai, sometimes it's quite interesting to hear them talking about how their family practicing it.
Not saying it's good or bad but just a fact how different are the culture even within different parts of China.
I studied Chinese 3 weeks. never learned that phrase.
For the gift part,all the 3 items have less auspicious meant homophones.
Shoes is 鞋 in Chinese, one of its homophones is 邪, which means evil.
the 🍐 is梨 in Chinese and can often be associated with 离, as in "getting separate or parting".
钟，a clock，rhymes with 終, the same end. To gift a clock is 送钟, which sounds exactly the same as 送终: to see someone in his/her deathbed.
Actually other than the clocks, buying shoes or pears for someone here is not that uncommon. I for one would love to have a pair of Nikes for my birthday as a gift. As for pears, when you're are eating one, some may advise you against slicing it to share around as the action "分梨" reads the same as 分离. 😂😂
It depends how you define "seeing from space" you can see the Great Wall from space with the Eifle Tower, Big Ben, The Partherenon in Greece. And so on. You can view almost everything from space that's on the earth surface.

in the north, those 6-7 floor apartment buildings, 3 and 4 floor are the most expensive ones, because those buildings normally don't have elevators, so the 3-4 floor is relatively easy to climb every day for most people. and not like 1-2 floor, 3-4 floor have enough sunlight time around the year.

Tones exist not only in Chinese Han languages and Tibet languages, but also in some south east Asian countries like Vetnam, Laos and so on.
So, Hahaha
My advice is forget about the tones. Treat them like accents. It'll be easier this way. That's how Chinese people naturally learned to speak. We weren't taught about tones when we were small.

The green beans are actually mung beans, but if u literally translate their Chinese name into English you get "green beans"
Thank you for introduce China to the world. Just to be more precise: it is mungbean ice cream, and Chinese New Year does not has a fixed date according to the solar calendar, but it is the first day of the year on lunar calendar, which is believed to be more helpful for agriculture.
