From my experience, I have studied in Wuhan but many Chinese students and locals took the initiative to approach me and communicate with me in English. I made so many Chinese and international friends. Professors were our friends as well and they introduced us to a lot of cultural aspects. From my observation most of the other students do not go out that much, they prefer staying in the dorms, with people of their nationality sometimes, so they cannot have contact with anyone else but their classmates or countrymates.

Yes, language is a point. As a Fudan student, I am now in Amsterdam as an exchange student, but I am not one of those who are perfectly fine in English, as you said. My oral English sucks, and I can't always understand others, especially if they are native speakers, using a lot of slang or speaking super fast. When I was in Fudan, since Chinese students and international students don't live together and Chinese students may hold fewer parties, we also didn't have many opportunities to know foreign students, which makes me spend more time getting used to the multicultural environment in Amsterdam.

I can tell you from personal experience that the most important thing is to prepare a VPN that can be used in China!
Otherwise, Facebook and WhatsApp will not work properly. Remember, it is a VPN that can be used in China. There are many VPNs that cannot be used in China because the technology of these VPNs is too poor to bypass the government firewall.
MetroVPN is the more reliable VPN I have used, at least it supports all my devices, iPhone, iPad, and Windows computer. The only downside is that it's not cheap, about $60 a year, but it's really professional.

Good video. Although I think most of what you said actually applies to any culturally different country, it is worthy talking given the facts that 1. china is not an immigrant country 2. china was quite closed in the past couple centuries until recently 3. china has been mysterized and meanwhile demonized a lot. Speaking from a foreigner with her own experience is valuable for anyone non-chinese who wants to go to china.

Key point to consider - Check if the degree you are planning to study has value in the country in which you plan to work. My current employer requires a degree ... but it must be from an English-speaking country.
The future value of your degree in the country and industry you work in is far more important than almost all other things you could consider. A degree from China, may be useless in your future in a way that a degree from another country may not be.

I am interested in if a Chinese degree can be authenticated for use in the US, Canada, or other western countries, I kinda wanted to study in China but on my Z Visa. Also I think it is unfair how Chinese citizens can study abroad and still be accepted into society (as it should be) but here in China, foreigners despite the huge salary, are 2nd class.
Like I'm pretty sure foreign exchange students can also work in the US, the university might even offer them a job.
Many people break the rules and there is a market for it but still, there are places in western countries that are all Chinese immigrants and I think that's super cool. But in China when there's a lot of foreigners in a certain area, then it's deemed as bad and the police kinda discriminate against you, perfect example would be how people here perceive black people in Guangzhou.

Shanghai is more laid-back / cosmopolitan and there is more high-profile policing in BJ as it is the capital. The people in BJ are on average more nationalistic and the climate in BJ is more arid + there is more air pollution there. BJ has nothing like the SH Western-style French Concession. It is much more Chinese. Much of the accommodation in BJ is pretty much like in Eastern Europe, while SH has many more modern 40-storey tower blocks. Now, if you are, say, a hasher, spending time with fellow expats, or if you mean working or commuting, then 'living' will hardly differ.

Great video that showed me some things I didn't know about Chinese University.
Just FYI you have wrote 12:54 would I recommend you to study abroad.
This sentence is grammatically incorrect. It should be:
    Would I recommend studying abroad.
The term study doesn't act as a verb it act as a gerund because the verb "recommend" is what you are doing and therefore study or studying becomes a noun.

FYI "you have wrote" is incorrect. You either say "you wrote" or "you have written". The auxiliary verb "have" comes with the Present Perfect rather than Past Simple tense. Other than that, she did not WRITE: she SAID that. Hope it helps ;-)

    • @LOKa-bg6qn
      @LOKa-bg6qn 3 года назад +2

also, (sorry for picking on you here): you should say "it actS" rather than "act" as "it" is a 3rd person singular and takes an "S" with the verb in the affirmative. Also, it is wrong to make such a sweeping statement that "recommend" cannot be used with infinitives: in a verb+object+infinitive structure it IS possible (cf. Hewings, M. Advanced Grammar in Use, s. 47A)
