"Fungi from Yuggoth" is a sequence of 36 sonnets by cosmic horror writer H. P. Lovecraft. Most of the sonnets were written between 27 December 1929 - 4 January 1930; thereafter individual sonnets appeared in Weird Tales and other genre magazines.

Such a wicked fever poem. HP Lovecraft is attempting to use classical and Romantic poetic forms in the horror genre, like Poe , to create an imaginary landscape and setting. It's a writer's exercise, earnestly brought to life by Ian's narration. Outstanding!
HorrorBabble brings overlooked poetry and prose to life. I appreciate this.

Thank you HorrorBabble for everything you do to satiate the appetites of HPL and weird fiction devotees. In early 2000, before RUclips, obtaining Lovecraft audiobooks was difficult. eBay, luck, and Napster were our tools

Two mentions of Aylesbury.I had to look this up but there is an Aylesbury in New England. It was either that or lovecraft had a fear of ducks.

These sonnets are rich with real incidents and locations. For example, a bit of history of St. Michael's church in Marblehead, Mass., located on Summer Street (formerly Frog Lane!) most likely inspired the "Beware St. Toad's cracked chimes!" line from 'Fungi...'

Quick question: are your videos demonetized? I never seem to get ads when listening to your narrations. If they are, I’m shocked at how inept RUclips’s algorithm is for what they deem as appropriate and what is inappropriate content. I mean, these stories were published in the 1920s; a time when media was so much tamer when compared today’s standard

    • @HorrorBabble

They are Kyle. You must've missed the update on the subject last month. We were demonetized without warning and/or explanation. 2 months later, we're no closer to an answer.

This poem actually shows a progression of skill. Many mythos and genre' writers fancy themselves poets, but really aren't that skilled in poetry (Robert E Howard is a great example of this). Lovecraft starts out tentatively in his rhyming and meter, picking it up and dropping it off as the muse struck him. In the beginning, he was wise enough to not force the meter because, I assume, he realized he wasn't as good at it as he could be. But as the poem progresses, HPL picked up the rhyming measure steadily. The last 12 sonnets show some real skill. He is more confident here, and easier and more exciting to listen to. This is the evolution of a respectable poet, from competent beginner to an inspired weaver of rhyme.

I am not really into poetry, but there are some poetry books around my place. There is also the question if any poetry would survive being translated from Icelandic to English, But if I come across something, I'll send you a message.

This has been my favorite channel on RUclips by far. Sadly I am going to be switching to bitchute, since RUclips seems to be heavily censoring anything horror or conservative. Would you consider doing mirror uploads there as well? I want you to keep doing this channel for as long as possible, but let's face it with the way things are going it is a matter of time before they purge the literature branch of the horror channels here...

    • @HorrorBabble

It's an option Darth - we're aware of it. We'll be continuing as we are for now, but will happily make the move if RUclips pull the plug.
