"Fungi from Yuggoth" is a sequence of 36 sonnets by cosmic horror writer H. P. Lovecraft. Most of the sonnets were written between 27 December 1929 - 4 January 1930; thereafter individual sonnets appeared in Weird Tales and other genre magazines.

I'm not generally a terrible fan of rhyming poetry, but this is legitimately brilliant and one could not ask for a better narrator.
Didn't expect this to be in the form of poems. I really liked it !
Such a wicked fever poem. HP Lovecraft is attempting to use classical and Romantic poetic forms in the horror genre, like Poe , to create an imaginary landscape and setting. It's a writer's exercise, earnestly brought to life by Ian's narration. Outstanding!
HorrorBabble brings overlooked poetry and prose to life. I appreciate this.
Thank you HorrorBabble for everything you do to satiate the appetites of HPL and weird fiction devotees. In early 2000, before RUclips, obtaining Lovecraft audiobooks was difficult. eBay, luck, and Napster were our tools
36 masterful sonnets. 36 superlative readings. Lovecraft & Gordon, perfect together! Thanks again Ian.
Thanks again Richard!

*fungi is as close as plants get to being people*
Strangely, fungi are genetically close to animals than they are to plants.
They're also one of the few plants that actually eat animals rather than insects
@@ghoulishgoober3122 fungi are NOT plants
Fungi are a kingdom unto themselves precisely because of how non-plant and non-animal they are
*Fungi are as close as people get to being plants
Thank you Ian and Jen.
A dark and wondrous journey through the setting of just about every lovecraft tale. Brilliant reading, my good sir

Oh goodie. I can hear the piping music again. Also Ian if you need a good source of ambient music to go wirh these, look into Cryo Chamber.
I think it's better to keep these as minimal as possible, then anyone can choose what background music they wish.
Simply beautiful, thank you very much.!!!
Two mentions of Aylesbury.I had to look this up but there is an Aylesbury in New England. It was either that or lovecraft had a fear of ducks.
Yeah, one could speculate on Lovecraft's fears for hours. I think you nailed it with the former! I've never heard of the place either, ok, Google 😋
This is a great work that is filled with excellent imagery.
Ian, as always, hit this in stride and never missed a beat. He never tripped up once. The works and rhymes continued to flow from start to finish.
Great job!
Brilliant Performance Again Ian.
You Were Born To Narrate Lovecraft!! Who Just Happens to be My Absolute Favourite Writer.
You Do Him A Great Service Sir!👍👍👍
Thanks again DV!
Sounds like yuggoth needs to bathe and wash better if he's getting fungi building up. Damn elder gods. You'd think they would take a good washing at least once a millennia or two
This feels like if doctor suess was goth.
Love all the references
Its almost as if lovecraft traveled in time and channeled dr seus.
I love the readers voice and presentation very good read!!
I LOVE THIS ONE!
Amazingly written, amazingly read! Thanks so much for the hard work!
Ooooooooooo I've never heard of this one which is weird cause I'm a lovecraftian fan boi
Great narration. Not a poetry fan myself, but this was thoroughly enjoyable. Thank you.
Wow. I think that was better than Coleridge's more famous equivalent.
These sonnets are rich with real incidents and locations. For example, a bit of history of St. Michael's church in Marblehead, Mass., located on Summer Street (formerly Frog Lane!) most likely inspired the "Beware St. Toad's cracked chimes!" line from 'Fungi...'

Thanks for the link - looks likes an interesting read. :) Ian
I know where I'm going this weekend!
Good stuff
Quick question: are your videos demonetized? I never seem to get ads when listening to your narrations. If they are, I’m shocked at how inept RUclips’s algorithm is for what they deem as appropriate and what is inappropriate content. I mean, these stories were published in the 1920s; a time when media was so much tamer when compared today’s standard
They are Kyle. You must've missed the update on the subject last month. We were demonetized without warning and/or explanation. 2 months later, we're no closer to an answer.
"Rhymin' and stealin' in a drunken state
And I'll be rockin' my rhymes all the way to Hell's gate"
--
"I couldn't help it. It just popped in there."
(the 80's were pretty damn cool and extremely quotable).
Wondrous! 🙌🔥👻
They must have been on the other side of Yuggoth when New Horizons went past.
nice. easy on the intellect and ears
Nice!!!!!!!!
This poem actually shows a progression of skill. Many mythos and genre' writers fancy themselves poets, but really aren't that skilled in poetry (Robert E Howard is a great example of this). Lovecraft starts out tentatively in his rhyming and meter, picking it up and dropping it off as the muse struck him. In the beginning, he was wise enough to not force the meter because, I assume, he realized he wasn't as good at it as he could be. But as the poem progresses, HPL picked up the rhyming measure steadily. The last 12 sonnets show some real skill. He is more confident here, and easier and more exciting to listen to. This is the evolution of a respectable poet, from competent beginner to an inspired weaver of rhyme.
Stephen Jay shut up. Bla bla bla
Nyarlathotep, bonking Azathoth on the head.
Was this a rare style of writing for H.P love craft or does he have other poems? I just got into his stuff and I liked this as well
Trippy
So poetic! Reading poetry a part of your education Ian ?
Not at all, though I suppose being a singer allows me to deliver this stuff a little more naturally.
I had this a part of my education when I was younger (Icelanders love their poetry) and you are doing quite well with the rhymes and the emphasis you put on certain words are spot on.
Thank you! Jennifer is more of a poetry reader than I, but I like to 'have a go' here and there. If you ever want to recommend any Icelandic poetry, be sure to do so!
I am not really into poetry, but there are some poetry books around my place. There is also the question if any poetry would survive being translated from Icelandic to English, But if I come across something, I'll send you a message.
I can appreciate the translation issue. Thanks Krista!
😢 this is the end of the playlist for me
There is a humongous fungus among us!
Note that Yuggoth and the fungi therefrom never actually feature in the poem.
❤
This has been my favorite channel on RUclips by far. Sadly I am going to be switching to bitchute, since RUclips seems to be heavily censoring anything horror or conservative. Would you consider doing mirror uploads there as well? I want you to keep doing this channel for as long as possible, but let's face it with the way things are going it is a matter of time before they purge the literature branch of the horror channels here...
It's an option Darth - we're aware of it. We'll be continuing as we are for now, but will happily make the move if RUclips pull the plug.
💙💞🙋
This poem is essentially the Mythos equivalent of the Bible.
Who amongst you speaks dutch?
❤️🙏🏽🌙💫🎩🖤
Really really awesome, thank you so much 🎩🖤❤️
I think it is "County Farm" rather than "country"...
Oh dear! Thanks for pointing that out. We're revising our mythos recordings at the moment, so I'll be sure to correct it.
De nada! It is an easy enough sort of typo and/or slip o' the tongue. I hope I didn't sound too hyper-critical, it just jumped out at me. I was pleased to find this excellent reading of some of my favourite poems. I must say, I am really enjoying all the good work you do, and I tell my friends about you, too.
I thought there was an l in Yulggoth...
I wouldn't wish that on anybody...!
...
A poet Lovecraft was not lol
H.P. was a poet.
But did he know it?
The Ghouls can't show it.
Because they're dead fellows...
