"Two Black Bottles" is the result of a collaboration between H. P. Lovecraft and Wilfrid Branch Talman. It was first published in Weird Tales Magazine in August 1927. In the story, the narrator, Hoffman, recounts a trip into the Ramapo Mountains of New York, following the death of his uncle. Words cannot express my delight upon finding a Lovecraft story I had never heard of. Thank you SO much for such a gift! My pleasure is immeasurable, and my day is made!
Great story. The Rampo mountains were an old iron mining area in colonial times and are located about 30 miles north of New York City on the opposing bank of the Hudson River. Many of the old mine pits were filled with industrial waste allegedly from a now long defunct automotive plant. Bruce Springsteen wrote a song, Johnny 99, about the area and the closing of the plant, and a murder committed by as distraught worker. Spingstein lived in Highland Falls for a time, if I remember correctly, which is located in the Ramapo Mountains adjacent to West Point Army College. The college has an artillery range in the mountains, and sometimes you hear what sounds like far off thunder on a sunny day. On a clear day, you can see the Manhattan skyline from that area. During the 9/11 attacks, giant pillars of smoke and dust rising from the burning ruins of the Trade Center were visible from the mountains. The area is now being increasingly populated by what one might refer to as fringe religious extremists groups.
It amazes me how you come up with so many Lovecraft related/associated/edited/collaborations, I had no idea! I think I heard this a long time ago, it's so extra Goth, and so perfect, especially narrated by you!
I'm so excited I just discovered H.P Lovecraft a couple of years now. Even though I would love to be reading it myself, thanks to Horrorbabble, they have wonderful narrators. And.I keep busy with listening of the extreme talent of Lovecraft.
The Ramapo Mountains start in New Jersey and cut through south New York into the Hudson River between Peekskill and West Point (and Harriman State Park into Bear Mountain State Park) near Fort Montgomery.
I keep revisiting this story several nights a week. There is something unsettling about a minister under the influence of evil who preaches alone to an empty church.
I got two black bottles and a microphone, Where it's at, I got two black bottles and a microphone, And something said into that mic that Warren is dead!
Love you and I'm always happy for Lovecraft I haven't heard/read before. I just can't get over the use of the word "ejaculated" in this story. "'You?!' I ejaculated..." I couldn't help but laugh hysterically. Possibly because I write smut, probably because I'm immature.
By some manner, (that which is inhuman) I find myself here upon this video, relaying cyclopean horrors in audible productions,,,, not by influence of morphine or other opiates
I like to think in these collaborations the author sends Lovecraft the draft and gets back something with like three of their words in it and is all "What the f##k Howard?!"

Words cannot express my delight upon finding a Lovecraft story
I had never heard of.
Thank you SO much for such a gift!
My pleasure is immeasurable, and my day is made!
Rainy night, cup of coffee, and Lovecraft by Ian.
Perfect way to end the day
Caffeine at night? get some chamomile and you will sleep like the undead!
@@2DReanimation - pfft! This is 'Murica! We drink coffee at night and booze in the day.
@Dr. M. H. - I am a simple man. I dare not hope for so much as that.
Hard to beat
You folks are the best in the business. You've given me great enjoyment, thank you so much.
Ooh, this is a rare one; I haven't heard it in ages. I'm looking forward to your rendition of it!
Can't understand why this one isn't more well known, it's so good!
A perfect story to listen to, while walking my pup, on this brisk, windy night. Thank you for your work, Ian. Much Love from Long Beach CA!
Never heard Gordon's American accent before. Love it. 2:30

Thanks for sharing, Thomas - fascinating stuff.
Great voice Ian. Crazy about Lovecraft. Nothing better to recover from major surgery this morning from laying in this dreary hospital
Recover well

Yay!!More H.P!! Thank you very much!!
I'd never read this one before, good story. As always well read Ian, thank you and merry Christmas.
This was another fascinating tale. It was an excellent read which I enjoyed.
The Ramapo Mountains start in New Jersey and cut through south New York into the Hudson River between Peekskill and West Point (and Harriman State Park into Bear Mountain State Park) near Fort Montgomery.
Christmas has officially come early.
This was an excellent choice and fantastic job as usual, especially with the characters' speech.
Thank you for another lovely reading and Merry Christmas Horror Babble ☃️
AWESOME.. Another great read of Lovecraft , Thank you Ian :-)
I keep revisiting this story several nights a week. There is something unsettling about a minister under the influence of evil who preaches alone to an empty church.

My uncle died too, about 3 weeks ago, funeral at friday, funny coincident
Sorry to hear that, Ola. All the best from Jen and me. Ian

Awesome read! Thank you for another great story.
Great story and awesome narrator as always
Creepy. Necromantic tale. A brilliant reading as usual. 😎
Brava! Brava! Yet another amazing show
Spooky tales on a cold winter's morning before I start writing, perfect!
Time to settle in for the evening!
I got two black bottles and a microphone,
Where it's at,
I got two black bottles and a microphone,
And something said into that mic that Warren is dead!
Wonderful!
Such a good one ❗❣️🙋❣️ty.
Excellent, thank you 🙂♥️

Great story
Wow. Felt I was there. Chillingly good
Thank you for a good story.
My senecrious condolences on the loss of the Queen a truly noble woman 😪
Always a treat
Thanks Ian
Good god, man! That one was nutty. Thought bottles were supposed to protect your soul. Guess that is colored glass in trees. “Young welp!”
this little a really good Lvcrft. really liked it. 🙀🙀

We're not above such antics, believe me!
That is proper usage of that word beyond bodily functions.
Thank you for another Christmas Present. May I request The Horror at Red Hook by HPL.
Thanks for listening! Red Hook is here on our Bandcamp page: horrorbabble.bandcamp.com/album/the-horror-at-red-hook
I like this one, very goth, has bottles. 10/10
Broad daylight and shivering
This story is something M
R. JAMES would write.😳
It's nice to go back in time, before Warren died.
really good yarn - yup! :}
Possible this is the original Story for Liches with putting their own Soul in a Jar/Bottle to prolong the Lifespan of the Necromancer.
Perhaps, I do wonder about that at times.
👍🏼👍🏼
Didn’t you already do this one
No, but it was an option in our recent Weird Tales Roulette polls.

Poor old Lovecraft rewriting and ghost writing other authors stories for pennies per work.
He would charge less than the going rate.
I like to think in these collaborations the author sends Lovecraft the draft and gets back something with like three of their words in it and is all "What the f##k Howard?!"
🧴🧴❤🤢🤮💫
I have read everything HP Lovecraft wrote. This is not one of his stories. He may have edited it. But he didn't write it.
Quite evident in tone and material. This is a gothic horror story, not a cosmic one.
Duh. They're pretty clear about that.
@@Duchess_Van_Hoof read "The Hound" and "Pickman's Model" for examples.
I can't say how much he did write.
One of the best Lovecraft collaboration ever. Just gives you the....ugghhh..ewww😂well done!
