When you read..."Now for Rose" it was as a psychopath was truly within my midst, I love these narrations, I've looked and I can't find anyone to parallel Ian Gordon with such an intimate emphasis of reading. Amazing as always.
Mr. Ian Gordon has me addicted to Horror Babble. I don't even have to close my eyes to be able to "see" what's going on in the story. I come back time and time again. Such a joy to be able to hear stories told so well. I really miss being able to read for myself but now I can hear almost all my favorites and some great new authors. Thank You for being.
"The Man of Stone" is a short story written by H. P. Lovecraft and Hazel Heald. Published in the October 1932 issue of Wonder Stories, it tells of two friends who go in search of several peculiarly life-like stone statues in the remote Adirondack Mountains of New York. Great as always ! Myths of flesh to stone mixtures go back to early China, royal alchemists supposedly had worked out something while trying to find the 'live forever' stuff the emperor wanted, gun powder being discovered along the way. According to legend one alchemist tried one formula and turned himself to stone, oops. No doubt he did something and died and royal scribes took literary license if the tale has any basis in fact. Keep up the good work across the pond.
I have several short story books of Lovecraft and have read them over and over. Several stories you have here, are not in any of the books so I'm glad to hear something new. Thank you! I enjoy your reading.
Ian,thankyou so much for all you do. I just listened to this again . If you ever get the chance to visit N.Y. in Autumn the Adirondacks and Lake Placid are gorgeous. I live very near there In Plattsburgh,N.Y. which is also very near Montreal, Canada. The mountains in N.Y. and also the Green Mountains in V.T. are beautiful. Thanks again to you and Jennifer. My Son is also a fan of Horror Babble. We appreciate your work so much.
Thanks Sarah! We've only been through that area on the train (we lived in Montreal for a while). We'd love to visit again. Thanks for listening, Ian & Jen.
HorrorBabble You will! Any plans to read Lovecraft's "Haunter Of The Dark"? There is something about that specific story and the timber of Jen's voice that I think to hear her read it would be absolutely sublime. I checked, but let me know if I've missed it. Cheers, you two!
*I love what Ian's voice brings as well, but when I was listening to "The Hunger Artist" lines from "Haunter Of The Dark" kept running through my head. Cheers! - Veronica
Hey again Veronica! We are indeed planning to record The Haunter of the Dark - it's part of a larger Cthulhu Mythos series we are working on. We haven't yet assigned a narrator, but I'm sure Jennifer would be thrilled to tackle it! Might be a while before we get to it though, as there are a number of other earlier (and lengthy) entries in the series to produce. Thanks again for the kind words! Ian & Jen
HorrorBabble YES! Great news! I did check out the Bandcamp site by the way - very cool. For now I'll be listening on RUclips, but once I'm able I'd love to contribute monetarily and buy some tracks. Solid work! *high-five*
Your narrative skills never cease to amaze me. You were an entirely competent narrator of great skill in this sample; but in the last year or two you've fully conceived a narrative voice that's totally unique from your speaking voice AND entirely consistent through out all of your more modern recordings. I spend an inordinate amount of time listening to stories via you and your wife and the differences, while sometimes subtle, are entirely recognizable for you both. I'm very proud to call this my favorite channel on RUclips and I think it's wonderful that you and your partner are both so talented. It's a wonderful thing to share your work passion with your your beloved (not to mention she's SO damn talented). Well, guys, this is my long-winded way of stating my utmost appreciation for the stories you've exposed me to and the exemplary way in which you've delivered them. PS I proudly wear my putty girl t shirt regularly! It never fails to get a comment...😄 Thom
Prior to finding your channel my girl and I spent every night listening to old time radio, specifically E.G. Marshall's Mystery Theater. Some of my favorite pieces of radio suspense/horror came from that program. I REALLY enjoy when HB conceives a story in radio drama style although I'm sure it's an incredible amount of work. Nonetheless, I would love to hear more if you can take the extra time!
I love the way that someone can openly infer that they are a communist and the average person doesn't find a problem with it.... ; - ; Any person with a moral conscience would never want to associate themselves with a group and ideology directly responsible for so many millions of deaths
Great story. I'm a big Lovecraft fan so it's always a pleasant and unexpected surprise to find a story of his that I haven't read, so thanks for doing this! If I could make a request, please upload the "Fire vampires" by Donald Wandrei, it's the only Cthulhu mythos story I know of that I haven't been able to find online. Thanks!
Thanks Joana - we're not sure what the copyright status of Bothon is. The story was originally attributed to Henry S. Whitehead, and published by Arkham House. Further research is required. Perhaps we'll get to it in the future though.
dear horrorbabble, seeing as your intro (mentioning the leninist...) suggests the existence of a community of narrators and audiobook connossieurs, i was wondering if you might know what happened to nathan kloske (the person and/or channel)? that was a great repository, i was sad to find it gone.
Hello Isa, I'm not sure what happened to that channel to be honest - I wasn't aware it had disappeared! I would recommend Morgan Scorpion's channel though: ruclips.net/user/MorganScorpion Thanks, Ian
Thanks Olaf! You're in luck - I'm just in the processing of recording The Whisperer in Darkness for release later this month! If you join our mailing list (over at www.horrorbabble.com), you'll be kept up to date with what we're working on and when it's due to be released! Ian
I used to live in the Adirondacks. Or the ‘dacks as we called them, which we didn’t. DEFINITELY Lovecraft territory. At least where I lived. Decadent, degraded, backwards, isolated clans of mountain folk (he would have decided). Also, lots of weirdly life-like stone statues in the woods. Anyway, better listen to this story.
Lovecraft never sounded greater than when read and dramatized by Mr. Ian Gordon. Great read once again!
You humble me. Thanks again Max! Ian
Hello Ian! I'm only stating the truth ☺. Max
😊
"I almost fainted 4 or 5 times" is such an intensely Lovecraftian line 😂
The most underrated of Lovecraft's stories. Shoutout Hazel Heald.
To visualize without effort is the gift of an outstanding reading . ⚡️
Many thanks for the kind words Dauna. :) Ian
*writing
Oh Thank you, i had never heard this H.P. Lovecraft story neither have I read it, and I am a fanatic for HPL! as always your reading is Marvellous!
It's a revised story in which Lovecraft lent his services to Heald.
I'm a massive Lovecraft fan and finding your channel with that level of production quality, absolutely amazing.
Thanks for stopping by John! Glad you're enjoying our work. Ian
Agreed
that makes two huge fans my well read friend!!! ♊🙌
Here I am, over a year into binging your catalog, still finding HPL stories I haven't listened to yet. What a time to be alive 🤩

That was pretty cool from someone that has read all the original Lovecraft stories. Getting caught up with the collaborations

What a terrific tale!
Always good to hear Nyalathotep up to their usual mischief.

I've only come across this story in an omnibus collection of Lovecraft by Barnes and Nobel. This is a great story!
Love all of this guy stuff and his voice is awesome 👌
As someone who grew up outside of Lake Placid, I can say there are strange things in those woods. Excellent rendition.
The best sad ending I've had in a long time.
Spoiler !!!
He only said sad ending. Concerning Lovecraft's
stories, that could mean anything.
Thank you so much 🌳

Awesome work at horror babble. Been loving the recordings🙌
A Lovecraft story with a romantic subplot... that was suprising, to me at least.
That's hazel's input.
@Howard Lovecraft LMAO
"The Last Test" has one too
@Howard Lovecraft HaHaHa!....That had to be it. You would not have done it yourself!
Excellent job Ian. Thank you.
Thanks weezman, appreciated. Ian
👏🏼 👏🏼 👏🏼 What a treat it is to have found your channel! Excellent reading, plus Lovecraft stories that are new to me and others new to me as well!
Great to hear from you Vero! Hope to hear from you again soon! Ian

excellent presentation as always, thanks 🙏
I've been looking for some of Lovecraft's lesser known co-authored tales such as this one, and this is one of the best I've seen seen so far (:
Thanks Michael! Glad you enjoyed it.
So uplifting
Ah this was an amazing story! Nothing like some good old petrification
King in Yellow vibes here, great read!
Very clearly read. The end was a surprise.
Thanks again James - I hope the 'northern' accent didn't throw you too much! Ian
No, not in the least !
Im also a big fan, thanks soo much!
A tragic tale, truly
thank you once again.
And thank you for listening!
HorrorBabble thank you again !!!
Amazing narration. Thanks Ian
Keep up the great work 👍, awesome channel
Neat statue plan.
Love the humor.

Tom Meakin I know right? What a twat. And not even just a communist but a Leninist. Fucks sake.

Thanks LordOmnissiah - thrilled you enjoyed it! Hmm, I'm not familiar with that particular tale, but I'll do some asking around. Watch this space!
Fantastic reading!
Thank you very much Chene! Ian
Love this one
Loved this one!
Ah, New Paltz, a hub of alchemists even to this modern day and age!
Great.
i have never heard this story
Hi, I love your narrations , could you read Bothon by Lovecraft?
Thanks Joana - we're not sure what the copyright status of Bothon is. The story was originally attributed to Henry S. Whitehead, and published by Arkham House. Further research is required. Perhaps we'll get to it in the future though.
Oh nice, The Leninist Plays Games has some great stories on his chann.
Ai ai ai aiiiii! Awaken, my masters.
I just saw Warren last Wednesday. How could he be dead?

This is the only story so far in which someone actually HAS the book of ibon. Its so fabled as to be on the verge of myth, but this random guy has it?

Wait, he could hypnotize her into marrying him, but couldn't make her drink a glass of wine?
Moral of this story is - never use magic in cases where punch in the face ought to do the job.
