    This is brilliant! I now understand why I flip the golf club! After reviewing this video I immediately hit some Birdie balls in my back yard with an 8-iron and could replicate what Chris had demonstrated. I'm well on my way to curing my flipping problem--thanks!

    Very helpful explanation. I’ve worked out that I flip my hands with driver but not irons so much. This explains why my ‘normal’ iron rotation with flipped hands using driver always goes left.

    I wish you would continue this video with what to do once the club face is in a closed position. I tend to do exactly as you say when I keep the face closed through the backswing. I hit it left and still flip and it goes even more left - ridiculously left as you put it and I am stunned by the shot. I don't know what exactly to do to stop it. Would you suggest some drill which focus on rotation and the right delivery to keep the ball at the target. Thanks a ton. (My favorite instructor ever) ! :)

    Great video Chris. I have been trying this at the range along with the drill in the attached link video and this has help me massively. I have been hitting my irons far too high and losing vital distance as a result of flipping it. This is also forcing me to rotate my body more which I was all arms before in my downswing. Hitting that sweet point in the club face sounds so good. Cheers Chris 👍🏻

    Another great video! Can I please request a video on the subject of how you on the course awaken the lower body before a swing. When I’m on the range or home at the net I seem to move through the ball and onto the left lead foot. However, when I’m playing in comps, my lower body goes to sleep and I forget or am afraid to initiate the downswing with the lower half and this results sometimes in turning the upper body too fast leaving my feet plastered to the ground and shots that are fat or pulls to the left. Cheers Bre

  • @gafmagic

    Thank you for the video. Hope I can ask you some clarification. I usually use a pretty strong grip in order not to actively bow the left wrist for closing the face because it's seems complicated and unnatural thinking about twisting the left forearm in the downswing to close the face with a natural grip. Unfortunately, I often end up with very little release of the wrist trying to push my hands ahead of the ball. This causes to me some pushes and push/slices with driver or low hooks with long irons. I'm a 18hcp. Any suggestion? Thank you in advance

  • @chrisklecker
    @chrisklecker 6 месяцев назад

    You just showed me my issue. I now have an issue where I hit straight right or hook left. My problem is that when I hit straight right my club face is open, I try to compact my swing, my hands are not rotating and my club face is wide open to the right. I'm not turning my body. If I remember to close my face, turn my body, now I flip. It's very difficult for me to remember to keep my club face closed, keep hands forward, and turn body. I think I just need to go very slow for 5 attempts, then a full swing. Then repeat.

    Hi, I tried this a lot during last season and I still can’t manage to stop flipping. When I film myself in slow motion on practice swings and feel like I look 6 feet in front of the ball, I get a pro looking release with shaft lean. Whenever there is a ball however I can’t get myself to not flip. This is really fristrating...

    • @jeffberger7890
      @jeffberger7890 5 лет назад

      louisolivierfortin
      I have noticed the very same thing. My understanding is that without a ball, there is no need to deliver a square club face, hence no flipping.

  • @stewartbarnes3644

    Chris, is the flip due to a misunderstanding of the target? Our natural inclination is to hit AT the ball, rather than collecting the ball as we aim to 'throw' the club at the TARGET, and get maximum extension at about 45 degrees forward.

    • @ChrisRyanGolf
      @ChrisRyanGolf  5 лет назад

    I am confused Chris. I think the video is good and covers something that I need to address. However, it seems to contradict your previous video about fast hands. Can you do a video to explain/ clarify how you can generate fast hands whilst not flipping the wrists please?

    • @ChrisRyanGolf
      @ChrisRyanGolf  5 лет назад

      Hi Paul, thanks for commenting. My previous video about the hand speed is key to generating speed and power, the purpose of this video was to show that if you have an open club face you will have to release far too early in order to compensate. If the club face in more neutral you are able to apply the speed at the correct point helping you achieve a good solid impact.
      The second demonstration in this video is excessive, the club face was severely closed which is why that release appeared very held off. Hope that helps 👍👍

      It’s tricky bob, get he club face under control which means you don’t have to release too early, then you can create as much hand speed as you can through the ball 👍

  • @ScottyPeabody

    Good work, Chris. Unfortunately we’ve got a lot of #teachers conflating supination with “flipping”. Problem is, many of these clowns don’t even know the difference.

  • @dmc123123
    @dmc123123 5 лет назад

    This really confused me, especially combined with your video about holding lag. The lag video talks about rotating your firearms and holding the rotation, which is what I have been working on, but doesn’t this open the club face? I thought that was the goal to open the face so you can then lag it and release it, generating speed. I guess I don’t fully understand the difference between a flip (bad) vs. a release (good)...which I think is an ongoing point of confusion and debate. Also I have been told that my old swing which was keeping the club face closed was causing me to “hold on” to my swing, because with a closed face, as you point out a release (which you are calling a flip) causes a dead hook and so I end up with a chicken wing (lead arm higher than trail arm) finish which I thought was bad (but you show as good) to prevent this. The flip finish you show as bad I thought is what you want to achieve as your lead arm should be under your trail arm at finish with a proper release and forearm rotation.
    If you could clarify, that would be very appreciated.
    PS. I did fully understand your lag video however and the concept of holding the forearm rotation vs the wrist cock was incredibly enlightening!!

    • @ChrisRyanGolf
      @ChrisRyanGolf  5 лет назад

      Hi David, a rotation of the forearms will tend to rotate the club face by about 90*, in this first example i had extended my left wrist to open the club by probably another 50* so club was far too open, hence the need for the flip. As the forearms do open the face we do need to work them back a little before impact, the exceeding where I explain and talk about lag suggests holding this forearm rotation in the downswing, which is a great feel, but never until impact, just longer than we tend to see as a pattern 👍

    • @dmc123123
      @dmc123123 5 лет назад

      ChrisRyanGolf Thanks for responding so quickly! So I guess you are saying you should strive to release later than most amateurs do, but still before impact, and if you do too late that is a flip? If you could tell us what you consider the key difference(s) are between a release vs. a flip that would be very helpful to me and maybe others! Thanks again.

    • @wookim221
      @wookim221 3 года назад

      @@dmc123123 I think good flip/release allows for easy effortless power(without the use of crazy body rotation) due to natural tendency of club head wanting to close during downswing and through impact. Modern golf instruction these days made golf swing more athletic by teaching to hold the clubhead release and using crazy body turn to close the face. I think this has made golf swing more hard and strain on our body. I think using good wrist release for power is more efficient and consistent, the key to good release is your shoulders, arms and grip have to be super relaxed and swing by feeling the weight of the club and let the weight of the club release your hands. Also the release occurs by your body stalling a bit before impact for the hands to catch up and release to occur, then the weight of the club head pulls you through impact and full finish. People think stalling the body is negative but its not because your club head is actually picking up even more speed through impact when this occurs. Lastly all the tour players flip/release if you see them slow motion, people get fooled because they have crazy body turn.

      Thanks Butch, appreciate your feedback, think this is just my coaching style. I have found over the many years I’ve been coaching that golfers are able to better self regulate their swing when they know the exact reasons things happen and how these link to the faults. In my opinion it’s almost as important to know they ‘why’ as well as the ‘what’, but appreciate everyone learns in different ways 👍👍

  • @frankvet1
    @frankvet1 3 месяца назад

    Actually the club face squares itself as long as you simply keep the body turning through the swing…. And you DONT TRY TO HELP IT AT ALL! (Thank the original club designers back in the day.) I believe it’s nearly impossible to “deliver” the club face to the exact spot every time by “trying to help” it get there! Hold an iron with two fingers at the top of the handle and spin around in a circle…… within one rotation, the Club face will be perfectly square no matter how many times you repeat this exercise…… you obviously did nothing to “help” it or “deliver it” as such. Cheers!
