    • @nezu_cc
      @nezu_cc Год назад +4

      @@earthling_parth it was a system where anyone (aka the community) could make subtitles/CC for any video in any language if the creater enabled that. All the creator had to do was approve them once they were submitted. This not only enhances accessibility (yt autogenerated captions suck outside of a few languages google actually cares about) but also opens up the video to completely new audiences due to language barriers (again, automatic translation is shit).
      For example in the V-tuber community there were entire groups dedicated to translating English content and clips to Japanese and vice versa. They still exist, but now have to re-upload the same video multiple times because they can't just simply add them to an existing video. It ruins the reach of these videos drastically.
      Edit: there even was a petition that got over 500K signatures but RUclips still removed it in favour of their autogenerated crap.

    #2: compute modules, what types are avail. what do they do, how they connect, what do you need to make them work, any add on's, what can they run etc. etc.
    I'm a 69 year old and, although I've been involved in "micro computers" since the altair 8800, SWTPC 6800, (1970's) - There was a time that I didn't follow the technology and need to catch up on specifics. This place is just up the road from where i live (but i didn't know it existed lol) I was so gutted when Maplin Electronics closed all it's stores here in the UK, as it was my go to place for eletronic components and nowdays have to shop on Ebay for those parts. I do have 4x Raspberry Pi's in my collection so far. I have a R/Pi Pico which i use for work on the Xbox 360 consoles, i have 2x R/Pi 3b+'s and my latest Pi is a Pi 4b 2gb for my A1200 "FrankinPi" build. The range of R/Pi's is just amazing and they are a brilliant little computer board.

    Here in Croatia, Pi computers came back in stock liek 1-2 months ago, I was surprised as there was a heavy shortage and scalpels were insane.
    Now you can find them but prices are still high

    Actually living in the uk and I didn’t even know this store existed thanks for sharing.. it looks very similar to the apple shops but obviously more bits.. I’m still grabbing them when I can in kit form from pihut for my hospital digital displays I’ve even swapped from poe to wireless so I’m not wasting power supplies as I have about 30 spare 😂

    It's a shame we don't have stores like this in the rest of the UK. Maplin was probably the closest but in the latter years before it went bust it had steered away from the hobbyist market.

    • @KameraShy
      @KameraShy Год назад

      In the US, Radio Shack was originally oriented towards the hobbyist market. They then went off on a tangent following fads like CB radios, then tried to become just a retailer for cell phones and batteries. That led to their demise. There was also Fry's Electronics which was a more complex failure. All gone now.

    On the upside at least the availability is getting better.

    An epic tale unfolds:
    Jeff G. and the Crusade for The Last Piece of PI
    It's the year 2023 and a great plague has ravaged the world for years. In the aftermath of that cataclysm prices for some Silicon-based treats have reached heights that would make the clouds jealous. But all this is of no concern for King G. the Grey as he sent out his son Jeff on a Holy Crusade beyond the Great Pond to find the last piece of Pi and bring it home to his father so that he can enjoy the pleasures of building small home projects with it as so many others before him have.

    With Marlin gone, there is no place here in the UK where we can buy electronic parts in person. Only online.
    It is summer of year 2024, and Raspberry Pi are normally available to the public again. I just bought a Raspberry Pi 400 from the Raspberry online store. The sad story about scalpers may have come to an end now that the SBCs are back on sustained production, making the scalpers hoard worthless for them.
    Thank you Jeff for this video.
    Greetings,
    Anthony

    Problem is most of the use cases dont require any of the hardware from the kit, like a voron printer where you power it from GPIO and it all runs headless via network.

    I think the only thing I would buy from there would be niche accessories - like 45 degree angle 40 pin headers, and crazy pi hats. Admittedly, Ali Express seems to be a better treasure trove of weird things like that.
