Tank you for sharing this beautiful peace from Tchaikovsky, the title remember Florence , souvenir de Florence le musée des offices , beautiful place but sometimes is a little tragedy, this peace are not tragic also fast for my bien sur chacun reçoit un ressenti , il y manque la chaleur car trop technique, dépasser la technique pour aller vers l'essentiel, les musiciens sont excellents c'est peut-être l'époque 1950-51 , merci beaucoup tank you very much also to the very good musician , merci !
In the realm of rarely played or seldom acknowledged composers of the past, one must also note that there are unsung pieces by famous and fully-played composers that are well worth the listening. Thanks for this one, new to me.
I have the original 1966 Melodiya recording, in mint condition, and I am glad this best-ever version of Souvenir de Florence, which keeps giving me the shivers, is now on RUclips, since I dare not play the record much anymore. THANKS!!!!!!!!!
Jahrhundert!
Look for Stormy Applause by Rostislav Dubinsky, which describes "making music in the workers' state" (subtitle). Many memorable moments, such as running from one funeral to another to play slow movements (a custom in Russia) when Stalin and Prokofiev died on the same day. Dubinsky made sure to have non-Jewish musicians in his quartet so they wouldn't be seen as a "Jewish quartet". Worth finding, and this performance is memorable!
+John Wells And again in 2016. Happy Birthday, Pyotr Ilyich! And to Herr Brahms in Vienna. Just finished listening to his Op. 18 sextet, a fine pairing, even though the two composers didn't always see eye to eye. From T's diary: "I have just played over the music of that scoundrel Brahms. What a talentless bastard!" Think what he might have said if he'd had Twitter. (By the way, doesn't it sometimes seem, especially in mvt.3, that while in Florence Tchaikovsky must have consumed a lot of caviar, borshch, and vodka?)
My high school chamber orchestra is playing this for our statewide festival (Queensland Australia), I hope we aren't mad... We are also playing Death of Falstaff and Summer from the Four Seasons.
The end of the first movement sounds like some crazy Russian hacker just cracked the code of the universe and everything is just caving in all of a sudden.
The first violinist and leader of the Borodin Quartet, Rotislav Dubinsky, wrote the book Stormy Applause, available in libraries and used. It's about playing as a quartet in Stalin's Russia and subsequently. One of the memorable parts is how the quartet ran from one funeral to another when Stalin and Prokofiev died on the same day. It is apparently the custom in Russia to play slow movements at funerals. Dubinsky also notes that he made sure to have non-Jewish musicians so his quartet would not be subject to prejudice as a "Jewish quartet". The book is well worth reading.
Fascinating; will have to check out this book!Memorial Day and I am reflecting on those original boundaries and safety God set up for the jews in the promised land and how the nations have been blessed through Abraham.
This string quartet has been set to dance by Macelo Gomes of American Ballet Theater. His piece is AfterEffect and I'm seeing it this Saturday (Oct. 31). Looking forward to enjoying how Gomes has built his work on this lovely quartet.
Snachet chto igrayut chleni Borodinskiy Kvartet, i tozhe Talalyan I Rostropovich. (Sorry, I don't know how to use Cyrillic on RUclips.)(Ne znayu kak pisat' Kirilitsy na RUclips.)
Tchaikovsky was endlessly self-critical. But he was a genius, and although that extra self-confidence would doubtless have benefited him, he didn't need it. He was a chamber-music mastermind!
❤my favorite recording of this work
This recording is so superior, so refined.
Every time listening to this piece with different feelings. What a remarkable composition!
This must have been written when all the emotions came together in an extraordinary emotional encounter.
Excelente música e interpretación, muchas gracias.

But this is a pretty well known piece? Argubly one of the most famous chamber musics by Tchaikovsky.
I have the original 1966 Melodiya recording, in mint condition, and I am glad this best-ever version of Souvenir de Florence, which keeps giving me the shivers, is now on RUclips, since I dare not play the record much anymore. THANKS!!!!!!!!!
It is a very beautiful music, played with exceptional skill and an impressive interior feeling. A delightful listening experience
We played the first movement of this piece at all county orchestra yesterday. It was difficult, but it was worth it. :)
The second movement is a tear-jerker
It really is... first time I heard it I was so moved and still am to this day T_T
Yes, sure. But smile comes back with the two following movements. The third one is my favourite.

good song to fall in love to
Still as amazing today as it was back then!
Sublime versión, antológica, belleza pura
Magnífico. Obrigado.

maravilloso chaiskoky.Linda Florence.Thanks
Una maravilla armónica, melódica. En fin... Una de las obras cumbres de Tchaikovsky.
From Marilee--I agree with Ethan and Aksel. A wonderful way to celebrate the anniversary of Tchaikovsky's birth, May 7, 1840.

I love to read and draw to this.

+Matthew Newell More power to you!
And of course 33:01 and following 12 seconds - Magic moment :)
I played the fourth moment on second viola recently, hardest thing I’ve ever played but lord it sounds good
A great music

Thank you for such an interesting comment!

It's not a quartet.
Anyway how was it?
+BarbedDagger according to the description, it kinda is a quartet?
+Kevin Eichenberger It is a sextet. Borodin Quartet + Talalyan and Rostropovich- even according to the description
DOH
I’ m happily surprised knowing the performance dear Marcelo Gomes presented on this marvellous sextet.
nice, romantic so an old photo...and listen the beutifuls russian walzer on YT
Good Tone.
🙏🙏🙏
9:30 good
magnificent skills at 9:45 !
@ 28:35 was that a motif from the Swan lake ?
Kind of? It's a fairly generic rising sequence, so I doubt it was supposed to be a reference.
32:11 Wow!! - to appreciate, start 32:00 ;)
Right you are!
That chord ALWAYS gets me, it's so tight hahah

the funny thing is Tchaikovsky thought he sucked at chamber music
Honestly, I find his chamber music much more convincing than his orchestral stuff. Though I don't know his operas very well.
Not true at all.
Tchaikovsky was endlessly self-critical. But he was a genius, and although that extra self-confidence would doubtless have benefited him, he didn't need it. He was a chamber-music mastermind!
why just a quartet?
It's not. Only the picture is the Quartet. It's The Borodin String Quartet featuring, Talalyan, and Rostropovich.
Won Seok Song ...., but no FOTO with that 6 people...
Bellissima esecuzione. Di che anno?
1890.
La composizione, scusa.
In descrizione c'è scritto 1950 ;)
