When state prosecutors also stop working with criminals to sweeten up a deal. Like, I get a defense attorney, even one that is appointed to them if they can’t afford one, is going to try and sweeten up a deal for the client. That’s their whole job. The state needs to stop giving in and making these deals and offering them to the judge, who then accepts it way too often to just hand-wave them away out of the court. Went through watching way too many Zoom court hearing over the last few years, many dealing with dumb stuff like this or traffic violations where officers had to be present for court to give their statement, and so many cases had state prosecutors being all monotone, making plea deals, and the judge giving in to move on to the next case. A constant revolving door of crime and everyone just moving on to the next fool. Especially in cities where crime happens so often with a higher population - counties often overran with people in holding due to crime, and all they want is to just get them out so their turn around time looks better - (see: Fulton County, GA where a lot of inmates are sitting for over 100+ days waiting to even see a judge due to the excessive volume of arrests and crimes happening - the Zoom court calls would just be hours of case after case after case with constant perps doing the same old shite and they’ll give them bond to push them out the door, to which a large number of them would violate/reoffend and be right back where they started). However, the other side to that is that the judges can only do so much if the law changes and demands this and that crime not be given sentences because politicians want to posture themselves as new-age civil rights activists caring more about sociopolitical things rather than the people as a whole for votes. The whole system sucks.

Few years back I rented a Budget/Avis car from Denver airport for 4 weeks period. All formalities done, picked up the car and started our beautiful trip through CO, WY, MT, ID, UT and back to CO. After a week into our road trip, while in that car, I get a call from a guy from Budget asking if I picked up the car. Their records say that I booked but didn't pick up, and he asked if I have it, confirmed plate# and VIN, and he apologized for their confusion. He told me that he just wanted to call me once and check before reporting the car stolen! We were super surprised, slightly upset and felt thankful to the God for not putting our wonderful day in the Rockies interacting with cops explaining things. Rental car people can be stupid and inadequate. Always keep your rental pickup papers (till you return the vehicle and full payment goes through), while picking up, take a detailed video of the vehicle in and out recording all details, take pictures while in the rental, of the documents you sign, and take a selfie with the store manager lol
I used to work at Enterprise and had this happen a couple times, we hate reporting vehicles as stolen as its a pain so usually it really is a last resort.
He rented a car and ended up with charges for stealing it. And resisting arrest. And he got tased. And he cried like a baby on body camera. All he had to do was lease a vehicle and lapse on the payments to get it repo’d like a normal person. Some kind of conman he is. He has mashed potatoes for brains. 😂

Enterprise has unlimited liability for false arrest, so we're very cautious about it getting to this point. We try literally everything that we can to work it out before we officially report a car stolen. Phone calls, emails, bills in the mail, demand letters, trying to get the vehicle towed similar to a repo. If it gets to this point, the customer has been intentionally hiding it and has not responded to any other methods.

Few years back I rented a Budget/Avis car from Denver airport for 4 weeks period. All formalities done, picked up the car and started our beautiful trip through CO, WY, MT, ID, UT and back to CO. After a week into our road trip, while in that car, I get a call from a guy from Budget asking if I picked up the car. Their records say that I booked but didn't pick up, and he asked if I have it, confirmed plate# and VIN, and he apologized for their confusion. He told me that he just wanted to call me once and check before reporting the car stolen! We were super surprised, slightly upset and felt thankful to the God for not putting our wonderful day in the Rockies interacting with cops explaining things. Rental car people can be stupid and inadequate. Always keep your rental pickup papers (till you return the vehicle and full payment goes through), while picking up, take a detailed video of the vehicle in and out recording all details, take pictures while in the rental, of the documents you sign, and take a selfie with the store manager lol

Enterprise has unlimited liability for false arrest, so we're very cautious about it getting to this point. We try literally everything that we can to work it out before we officially report a car stolen. Phone calls, emails, bills in the mail, demand letters, trying to get the vehicle towed similar to a repo. If it gets to this point, the customer has been intentionally hiding it and has not responded to any other methods.
