We must promote bringing back the family farm, victory gardens, roadside stands - call it what you will. Local food is more important than ever. I wrote a blog about where to find locally produced food. Hubby and I drove through Amish country to locate small producers. Even hardware stores have local honey and maple syrup, beef jerky, jams, mustards, and other items you can use to plump up your pantry. Add to it, roadside stands with veggies, eggs, bread/pastries, and the beef/pork farmers doing direct farm-to-table packs and you can make it. It's not just the Amish, though. He took a side-road trip toward (about 10 miles from the city limits) Akron, Ohio through suburbia and was astonished by how many road side stands there were, These are just suburban homes on 1/2 acre. Turkeys at Thanksgiving. Bread. Eggs. Freezer beef. EDIT: I was at another hardware store about 20 miles from our home today. It is in a small Ohio River town of 3000 people. The hardware store is one that features their electrical department, paints, tools, etc., They have an entire area dedicated to locally produced food and food production. Even a cooler for local cheese and meats. Jams, jellies, sauces, snack foods.
Thanks MR. Reading the writing on the wall, I bought 15 pounds of boneless chicken breast today. Just want to say, I really appreciate your videos. They're under 10 minutes, you get in, have your unprofessional slug of coffee or tea 🙂, tell us what your topic is, talk about it, thank us and you're done. No BS, just sound thoughts.
Having worked with an agency that did have a lot of migrants coming in, they were required to have a green card. They would come in February and follow work around the country until the seasons ended. It was different back then, we are in different days.
I grew up in a farming community and we had a small farm and an orchard. My dad relied on migrants to pick the fruit and even in his older age he had loyal people who helped with many things. Sometimes when there weren't enough migrants to pick the fruit the high schools excused some people to do the job. I was thinking about these things this week wondering who would pick the fruit if they were all to be deported. Kids today are too lazy to pick fruit, and it is hard work. I can testify to that. We need to be careful, if too many go, we may be in trouble.
There are work visas that makes it legal for them to be in the country. As for the kids, that's on us. If parents enable their kids to not work, that's entirely reversable. Growing up, I worked chores after school, and on the weekends I worked for others, whatever was needed to be done. That was my 'movie' money. Enough that I had 900 bucks as a down payment for my car. If I could haul hay and dig post holes, anyone can. Given a choice, I'd have been lazy. But to have car insurance, parts to repair it, and gasoline, again, I had to work for that.
@@durgan5668 That was similar to my life. The good ole days Yes, there are work visas but in those days most in our area were illegal. It always caused problems when crack downs occurred. That may have changed. There will be a huge need if the immigrants are removed. Therefore, I think they will give visa's before removing.
Trying to strong arm, er, I mean convince 🤣 hubby to preorder more chicks from the local feed store to pick up the first week of March. It’s hard keeping up with three teenagers who love eggs, and need that wonderful protein! Thanks for another great video!
Good to hear this kind of report. There are "homeless" US citizens .. people living in vans, RVs, etc. who look for seasonal work so they can continue to live on the road. A good number of these show up for the Beet harvest. So I think it might be a good resource to call upon if there is a slump in migrant south-of-the-border workers.
MR. Good information. Back 35 years ago. Summer Farm Work & carrot culling & pickle factory were the jobs that high school and lots of Summer college workers did. Then came the J visas and illegal migrants. Gone were the jobs for American Youth. I agree that deliberate sabotage by various nefarious agents is well into the offing. From the 👍. Best

TLDR- Some people don't mind being sitting ducks. I'm not one of them. YES!! I watch a very lovely homemaker. A couple weeks ago, while filming, she suddenly froze with a terrified look on her face. Her dogs had been barking but she didn't seem to think much of it until she heard the door open, which is when she froze. They recently moved to a new city in a new state and it's on a somewhat busy road (from what I can tell). She investigated, completely unprepared for anything bad, but came back chuckling because it was just her daughter(s). "I thought it was a bad guy!" The advice to be less of a sitting duck would go in one ear and out the other, unfortunately. So I just thanked God on her behalf that it was nothing bad. I don't personally know her, but I worry a bit that it won't always be so innocent and...well...😢 I face the same dilemma with my in-laws, especially my MIL. Their doors (3) are kept unlocked from the first time they go outside to the last. We have walked right in numerous times, both announced and unannounced. I will never forget that one time (at band camp LOL) that we had the radio absolutely blasting when we pulled into the driveway for an early surprise visit. (They knew we were coming but we made excellent time lol) She works from home and it took her far too long to get up from her desk and walk the 10 feet to the living room...empty-handed and bewildered. And, just like the other I mentioned and her barking dogs, my MIL said she heard music and car doors but didn't think anything of it. SIGH. Imagine if we'd been someone with ill intentions... I need to check for any holes we have and get back on track with running family drills. My husband is an OTR trucker, so he's gone for weeks at a time while I stay home with our children. I'm not horribly worried, but I do have legitimate reasons beyond basic scenarios to be on guard at all times. Long story and I've already blathered enough lol

MR- On the southern shore of Lake Erie there is a lot of legal migrant season agricultural workers who pick fruit. I was told that the fruit tree farmers have used LEGAL migrants for years, and the migrant workers actually will turn in the illegals since they “undercut” the legal workers wages. Our bigger problem is with the human trafficking by Chinese and drug by Latin Americans. If Trump starts putting tariffs on nations we could see some MAJOR ripples in the supply chain. Think of a company who now has to pass a 25% price increase onto the end buyer. Supply will still be available but demand may leases due to cost increases. So will a company buy 1,000 pallets of, say oil filters, and risk them sitting on their shelves or will these business move to even more of a just in time ordering and delivery system? What an oil change well you may have to wait until the filter arrives after you order it. Just saying that overall the amount of goods may be a lot less than we are accustomed to. With less goods there becomes a great demand for the ones here. Buckle up folks!! And what do the nations do that have ridden the USA gravy train when their orders plummet?
