  • This extraordinary episode showcases what makes The Berkley Gulp soft plastic baits so unique that they dominate market. I do an apples-to-apples water/scent dispersion test between the Berkley Gulp and Z Man soft plastics. Then I head offshore for some saltwater fishing fun in the Florida Keys, doing a one-on-one challenge between the 2 manufacturers. The results are nothing shy of amazing, will most definitely give you sense of how these baits work to attract fish and will also show you why one is so far beyond the competition when it comes to the technology and science of producing the world's finest soft plastic baits.
    Developed by an expert team of fish scientists, Berkley Gulp! harnesses the power of smell to help you catch more fish. Gulp! is proven to create 400 times more scent dispersion than the competition to expand the effective strike zone. Berkley’s proprietary Gulp! scent technology is infused into the core of each bait. With even more size and color options, saltwater anglers can find the perfect fit for any inshore species.

    Hi Heath, The Gulp 3" and 4" swimming grub / minnow are the top bait for flounder up here in New Jersey. We use the "Top and Bottom" rig or 1oz white bucktails with Gulp trailers. They work great when drifting in 5' to 20' of water. Swim them just off the bottom. We put the Gulp back into the package to "re-charge" after 15 minutes of use. The Gulp will absorb the "juice" when returned to the package. If the fish bite off the tails, we just add a homemade felt trailer to the hook and keep the body on the hook. You can also purchase the Gulp "juice" in a bottle to recharge the used Gulp. Great to see Avi out fishing with you. Say "Hi" to the "Fishing Girls" and Avi for me. Have a good week and I'll talk to you on Thursday. Take care, Mickey

      Hi Mickey thanks for million for sharing that information. Always loved and knowledge you have to drop. I've used the Berkeley golf baits in the past and I really just wanted to show what they were all about and the science behind how effective they are. I was really blown away by the results of that water dispersion test I did not expect that to happen. And the fishing was just as great. We caught so many more fish and had so many more hits that I can actually make a whole other video on just that. But with this video being 25 minutes in length I felt it was getting quite long so I decided to cut out a lot of the fishing part and just stick to the science of the lure. All the kids say "Hi Mickey". Everyone here is doing good we just got off of break from Thanksgiving and are getting ready for the up and coming holiday again. I'm still putting my car back together. So I'm probably going to put the Thursday episodes on hold until I can get everything straightened out it's just too much to do. Thanks again for always taking out time to stop by and cheer me up. I'm more than likely talk to you on next Sunday. Take care :)

      Hi Heath, Good luck fixing your car. It's always a pain, to have a car out of service. Sounds like you have a lot to do, so you shouldn't worry about a video for Thursday. Take care, Mickey

      Thanks man for watching and leaving some excellent feedback. Like I explained in the video I've used them before but they're definitely not something I always use so it was good fun to actually make this video and show the science behind the manufacturing of these things. I really did not know one little piece of bait could absorb so much of that scent and disperse it and back out into the water. I was pretty amazed. Thanks again for your supporting the channel I truly and sincerely appreciate it... Maybe one day we'll run across each other out there on the water. Thanks again. Tight lines & take care ;)

      @@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing You are very welcome. Some of my fishing buddies swears by the Gulp product. But they never explained why it's so effective. Honestly I think they don't know either. Loll . Other than it works, and now I understand why it works. 😁👍 I'm still waiting for feed back from some that I had shared this video to . I wanted them to see your absorption test. Like I said, I just believe they think it's the scent in the package and that the product works well. Not really knowing why. Yes it would be awesome for us to see you out on the water. It will be nice to finally meet you in person. Hope you've had a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family. Blessings my friend.

      Hi Alex,. Thanks for taking out time to stop by and chat with me. I really appreciate it. Thanksgiving was good got together with the whole family down in the keys. The car is still in a million parts in my garage however. Going to be putting the Thursday videos on hold until I can get this back together it's just too much to do. Berkeley has freshwater baits too so don't count them out for that. The science behind the baits is pretty crazy I didn't expect the results so that water dispersion test to end up the way they did. Thanks again for always being here and all your support throughout the years. Hope college is going well for you. Talk to you soon. Tight lines & take care ;)

      Thanks a million for watching and sharing. The gulp Baits definitely are something to keep in your tackle box. It was pretty amazing to see the science come to life in this comparison I never really realized how much of that sent those little Bates could absorb. The video only shows a handful of fish being caught but it was non-stop action that day. Maybe I'll do another video to show just exactly how much I really caught. Thanks again for your support of the channel I truly and sincerely appreciate it. Tight lines & take care ;)

    One of the best red snapper lures I’ve used has been the 6” swimming mullet in white with a 2 oz jig head it’s unbelievable how good it works. Just have to get it past the dink’s and it’s game on. I’ve all but quit using cut bait

    Amazing test Heath! That's why I love your channel, always educational... will the gulp work for off shore grouper and snapper drifting? If so, would you use heavy jigg heads or Knocker rig?

    • @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
      @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing  2 года назад +1

      Thanks a million for watching leaving some great feedback and asking a great question. Yes the soft plastics definitely work offshore for drifting. You're thinking is spot on you will definitely need a heavier jig head. A bucktail jig definitely works in these instances. For when that sent this verse is it will drive to fish crazy and put you into the bite. Thanks again for taking out time to stop by and chat with me and for your supportive channel I truly and sincerely appreciate it. Tight lines & take care ;)

    I use Gulp all the time. I recently moved to VA and got back into saltwater fishin' after missing it for a decade or so. It's like getting my soul back. I've been using Gulp for flounder and catching trout and other stuff on it. My only complaint is that it's not durable. I have to switch to Z Man when the tail biters are bad. I use Dr Juice or ProCure scent on Z Man or Salt Strong soft plastics. Salt Strong has some good stuff but it's not as tough as Z Man. Z Man sells a color called Slam Shady that Salt Strong developed to be the most visible in the most conditions and it's pretty good in the Z Man plastic or the Salt Strong originals.
    Another thing to test could be the difference between water based scent and oil or polymer based scents. It would be cool to see.
    Also FishBites Dirty Boxer soft plastics are made to be a good competition for Gulp but it's quite a bit tougher. I've seen it catching fish in videos. You might want to test how it absorbs scents compared to Gulp.

    The unique thing about gulp is they are soy bean based vs. oil based that other soft plastics are made from. Scent wise they are tops - you can get a bottle of Alive and have them soaking when you are not fishing - like marinating a steak
