hi, I wonder know when a ed participle as a post-modifier, e.g. the building bulit last year is a good one. Is "built" an adjective? And if I use the ed participle as an post-modifier, is it necessary for that as a adj? Or it is all ok? Thanks you!
Yes. It's an adjective. Participles can come before and after a noun to modify it. • I don't want to drink in a (broken) glass. • The glass (broken) last night was very expensive.
@@EnglishWithAshish Thanks so much. one more question. I found dictionry that built is not an adj, or it act as an adj in the sentence? and are all the ed-participle could act as an adj? I am confused especially the post-modifier, i alway think there should be a "be" verb; like the building was built that is a good one. If it becoms "the building built last year is a good". Is it omitting the "be"?
It's a reduced adjective clause. Look at the following two sentences: • The building (that was built last year) was amazing. • The building (built last year) was amazing. Anything that gives information, that modifies a noun is basically an adjective. When a participle modifies a noun, it works the same way; it also works as an adjective. Hope you understand this!
