I was gladly impressed for Hassan mentioning something about the rap situation in Spain. I appreciate raising the issue as now Pablo Hasel is being condemned hardly by the Government and the King in my country.
Hi, I'm from Spain and I have some things to say about "article 578" (which is the Article 578 of the Spanish Penal Code, the second most important law behind the Constitution), together with another law (Ley de Seguridad Ciudadana -Citizen Security Act) known locally as the "ley mordaza" ("Gagging Act"), both approved in 2015 under the conservative Government of Mariano Rajoy (who is famous for his involuntary humour, I don't know if there is any English compilation of his quotes, but he has a lot of funny quotes). Basically: -Any kind of criminal act going against the Government or any institution is terrorism. (LSC) -Pasively or actively resisting an order from a member of the security forces (police or Civil Guard) is an "attack on authority" (article 550 SPC). -Unauthorised public protests are "public disorders" and taking part of them in a big crowd or with the face covered raises the penalty up to 6 years of prision (article 557 SPC). -In adition, calling for protests or "reinforcing the decision of commiting public disorders" is also punishable (Article 559) Also, there is a circular argument between the articles 571 SPC (which declares "terrorist organisation" any group of people who are wanting to commit a crime of terrorism) and the article 573, which says that any public disorder will be terrorism "if commited by a terrorist organisation"). Hip-hop has also been a major way Sudanese youth have been speaking out about the atrocities committed by their government in the last 30 years and especially in the last few months as the protests grow even larger demanding the fall of the dictatorship.

Think of Miley Cyrus. She co-opted hip hop and when she realized the clout fuse was about to burn out, she went back to her original genre and claimed it was a bad phase.
@H A She's not been 'getting darker', that's her natural complexion. When she was in Victorious they had whitened her skin through products and lighting, and ever since she's been an independent artist she's kept her natural complexion. And how exactly is she co-opting hip hop? She's dated two rappers: Big Sean and Mac Miller, you know there's a bunch of other boys she's dated right? Pete is the most recent but she's dated Ricky Alvarez, a dancer, and Austin Mahone a singer and other actors. So if you date 2 rappers in your lifetime you're co-opting hip hop? Also, her songs do NOT have a primarily hip hop groove. It's just 7 Rings that has a hip hop feel to it, if you listen to the rest of the album it's pure pop with reggae, r&b tones to it. I get that Hassan was saying it as a joke, but you seem to have some vendetta against her.

He’s got the most biggest and beady eyes I’ve ever seen, intense eye contact is inevitable 😂😂😂
I have been watching all your episodes one after the other. Great stuff Hassan! What a splendid mix of politics, comedy, global issues, culture .. and so much more!
Way to go! 😊
Patriot Act and Last Week Tonight are my two favorite Sunday shows.
Same
"when do they start rapping"😂 I'm saying though
I watched the episode on Netflix and HAD to come here to say what a good episode this was. Keep it up!
Why Is nobody talking about the dmx impression😂
I was gladly impressed for Hassan mentioning something about the rap situation in Spain. I appreciate raising the issue as now Pablo Hasel is being condemned hardly by the Government and the King in my country.
Dope man....... Watching this from Kenya... Hiphop is the truth. One love

Actually Hassan had a 3-pointer before this miss, a steal and a layup after. He had 5 of the team's last 10 points. Great job, Hassan.
The shade on Ari though,
She's gonna need some ice for that one.
i didn't get the joke
Madalyn Days cuz she only started hip hop cuz it’s popular
Yeah
Hi, I'm from Spain and I have some things to say about "article 578" (which is the Article 578 of the Spanish Penal Code, the second most important law behind the Constitution), together with another law (Ley de Seguridad Ciudadana -Citizen Security Act) known locally as the "ley mordaza" ("Gagging Act"), both approved in 2015 under the conservative Government of Mariano Rajoy (who is famous for his involuntary humour, I don't know if there is any English compilation of his quotes, but he has a lot of funny quotes). Basically:
-Any kind of criminal act going against the Government or any institution is terrorism. (LSC)
-Pasively or actively resisting an order from a member of the security forces (police or Civil Guard) is an "attack on authority" (article 550 SPC).
-Unauthorised public protests are "public disorders" and taking part of them in a big crowd or with the face covered raises the penalty up to 6 years of prision (article 557 SPC).
-In adition, calling for protests or "reinforcing the decision of commiting public disorders" is also punishable (Article 559)
Also, there is a circular argument between the articles 571 SPC (which declares "terrorist organisation" any group of people who are wanting to commit a crime of terrorism) and the article 573, which says that any public disorder will be terrorism "if commited by a terrorist organisation").
For more information, this blog of a Spanish lawyer (though it's in Spanish): asihablociceron.blogspot.com/2015/04/triada-de-mordazas-iii-la-lsc.html
Wow...thats like, us- anti constitution that they're trying over here
@@Ded2DjeD It's a very sensitive issue, basically the Rajoy government wanted to make protests illegal.
@@podemosurss8316 And now since the Social democrats are in power they removed it right?, When they did it?, The first week or so?
@@JP-xd6fm No, they did nothing. After all, it's the Parliament the one removing those things, and they don't have the mayority required.

Hip-hop was started by a Jamaican, Clive 'kool Herc" Campbell, and is essentially an extension of the Jamaican sound system phenomenon, dating back to the late 50s - would have appreciated that mention
Not the 1950, but in late 1930s and became prominent in the 1940s.
Every time the credits roll on one of these, I always find myself chuckling at the jokes, and for the rest of the night reflecting on the message and the news you were sharing. Thank you (and all those who make this possible) for all the work put it.
"Ay yo dawg, show up at 9! ARF ARF!"
I WAS CRYING FOR 10 MIN
That was so good, right!?
AND THE BARKING
Hip-hop has also been a major way Sudanese youth have been speaking out about the atrocities committed by their government in the last 30 years and especially in the last few months as the protests grow even larger demanding the fall of the dictatorship.
Sudan needs hidiya inshallah.
Oh hey we're continental sisters :) Are you in Sudan rn? I'm from Nigeria (but live in the uk) and our ppl also use hip hop to highlight the police brutality (by SARS) and the extreme poverty, inequality and corruption in the country. Case in point: Falz's This is Nigeria. What's going on in Sudan rn is amazing and scary at the same time - just because of how these things usually go around the world. Hope it goes well for you guys and the protests are worth it :)
Its fucked up what's goin on in Sudan, stay strong sister!!
Faith I don’t live in Sudan, but I visit yearly. Nigerians are inspiring to us, honestly.
And yes, the protests back home are scary but inshallah they’ll be worth it!
Fantastic work as always Hasan, your show is quickly becoming one of my favorites along the ranks of Last Week Tonight and The Daily Show. Always entertaining, educational, and inspiring. Thank you, and please keep up the good work c:
I am a Tanzanian, I wanna talk about the rapper who got kidnapped, beat and thrown in a forest by "unknown" people but i still have a life to live.

4-5yrs after i watched the Patriot Act for the first time, I am rewatching it now to see how our world has changed. U know if you really think about it, from fun things like hiphop to deeper issues like retirement and the Saudi Prince, his show was something. Hope this can come back!
Thank you for speaking out for Thai people. Respect ✊

Hey, please talk about what's happening in Algeria, Egypt and Sudan
Aya LABBACI what‘s happening?
So he really does get homework assignments!
@@LPOnePiece30 People, millions, are protesting pacifically against their presidents and the whole government.
In Algeria, we have an 82 years old sick president, and he still want to run for another term, so millions of us are protesting at home and all around the world ( Paris, London, Geneva, and Montreal )
In Egypt and Sudan, people are against the military government and dictators.

"Hip-Hop had to go all the way around the world and get repackaged as a history lesson by a theatre nerd, just so it could be accepted." That made me realise just how much of an impact Lin made from writing Hamilton. Dang.
The intro and outro beats of patriot act is better that the beat of that thilland rap song which the news lady was talking abt🤣
It's true. Majority of the Thai population came to know that there is an election only when the Opposition party to the Army's party was rejected right to stand in elections because one of their candidates was the current King's exiled sister. Most of the people don't know about reforms and Thai media doesn't speak about the opposition parties. People are being offered money to vote for the Army's party. Very few, especially urban population knows about politics there.
"Who taught you to shoot? The President of Turkmenistan" - so glad he makes fun of himself
Growing up as a Hispanic, 1st generation American in a largely white area I was often criticized for the way I spoke, dressed, and for the hip hop that I listened to. Now to see it be the forefront of the world is amazing. This is absolutely one of the best episodes yet. Hasan is very intelligent on the way he delivers his message. Great job.
every time you publish an episode i found new things your very talented and have a lovable show keep going man
The reason I love Hasan, he always speaks for democracy and human rights. As an immigrant that's the most important thing I've learned being in the USA ....Good Job Brother.
Here in Sudan we have NasJota a rap crew that oppose the government all the way .

This has to be one of my favorite episodes. Bridging hip hop and thai politics is what I needed today.
Every episode just keeps getting better and better! Thank you for making this amazing show!
It would be so great if you did a show on Venezuela. There is a plethora of misinformation being spread about our humanitarian crisis. Maduro is definitely more than just “kinda annoying.”
I like all the episodes but this one was especially well done. Such a thoughtful and fresh perspective.
"Co-opting rap is something I thought only Ariana Grande did" 😂
European dude here. Could you explain the joke? I mean I kinda know who Ariana Grande is, but I still did not get it. Thanks
@@muttananba5071 she's been dating nothing but rappers before pete davidson and even her current music has been having some hip hop influence, she's kinda used hip hop for the clout basically, btw she's hooking up with Big Sean again so you know she clout chasing right now
Think of Miley Cyrus.
I get that Hassan was saying it as a joke, but you seem to have some vendetta against her.
wait, shes getting with big sean? i thought she said she wasnt going to hook up with anyone for all of 2019? lmao

its gets better and better. keep killing it Hasan!
Hasan Minhaj has been killing it! Ever since the white house correspondent's dinner he's been climbing the ladder sooo fast. He's gonna be the next Steven Colbert!
Guillaume Godin no he’s going to be the next Hasan Minhaj... he’s not the replacement for a job title/position that was previously occupied by an other... what he’s creating is unique and original... but I would say if anything he has that David Chapelle vibe happening VS comparing him to STEVEN COLBERT 😂
Your DMX impression was everything 😂👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

So...I've been watching a lot of Hasan Minhaj's videos specifically to gain knowledge on what's happening around me. To be honest given the fact that he's a comedian, I never really thought these videos would be this knowledgeable but damn I was wrong. His work shows his dedication and hats off to the amazing graphics team. It really help to get the info into the head fast and efficient. Its such a pity that this show was cancelled. All I can ask is for Hasan to keep up the good work.
This episode reminds me of a show on netflix called Carole and Tuesday. It's set in the future and is about these two girls who live on Mars and strive to be musicians, but Mars is undergoing an immigration crisis. It really emphasized the influence of music on politics by the end.
