For someone from outside who wants to be close to Lisbon and beachs one good place is Almada. Just crossing the river. The house prices are about half the ones in Lisbon.
Portugal is the only place truly I’d live in Europe! I’ve been all over and although there are are so many beautiful European countries, for me over all quality of life, people and beauty diversity of the country it’s Portugal 🇵🇹
Be careful of assuming high prices (such as the small apartment in Lisbon) can't go higher, or that the gap between expensive cities and cheap rural property can't get wider still. A good example is London: 25 years ago, real estate prices had bottomed and were about to start a phenomenal recovery. Despite London at that time being expensive and usually several times the price of a similar home in northern England, the price gap has widened considerably since. So expensive property can not only get more expensive, its price can also increase at a faster rate than more modestly priced property. Globalisation and the increasing wealth gap between rich and poor can only sustain this trend. Of course, history doesn't necessarily repeat itself, but I think it's worthwhile bearing in mind some of the megatrends in force that are driving results that for you might not seem intuitive.
great analysis, the gap between key cities and the country side can widen to infinity (just look at eastern Europe, sometimes sq meter prices are 50 times more expensive in capitals than the countryside). However London is an unparalleled financial center, Lisbon attracts wealth at an infinitely lower rate than London. Lisbon is not that versatile, it relies heavily on tourism and pensioners.
Would like to have a holiday house in Portugal and be by the sea. It will have to be on a low budget but don’t like small places so would be happy to compromise with the area. Unfortunately I don’t drive. Could you explain how the mortgage side of things work, would you just pay a deposit and then a certain amount monthly. (Portugal is so expensive, the only two places that I am especially drawn to is Thailand and Portugal. )Michelle
I’m considering Portugal 🇵🇹 looking for a quiet location. Drivable / Sunset Seaview. Not interested in a big city. Prefer a sleepy village atmosphere. Any recommendations?
thanks for the info. Problem with idealista is, that most properties listed there are already sold and its not up to date. I search directly with agencies like Remax
@@traveleconomics My understanding is that real estate agents in Portugal only show homes listed by their agency. So Remax will only show Remax properties. Is that true?
Thank you for this very useful video. Please could you let me know what the best way is to find out whether a property that you are interested in buying qualifies for the Golden visa or not? Is there a special government agency that deals with this? Also, to get citizenship, do you have to pass a language test in Portuguese? Spain requires this.
Think about this for a moment ... I can buy a 2br condo in the Ft Lauderdale area for less than $85k I've looked online at prices for something similiar in PT and the smallest less desirable was over $130k What is wrong with this picture ? I am hearing rumors of a giant devaluation of real estate in all over Europe in the next few years, as it will also happen in the USA Could European prices go down to where they were 15 years ago ?
They could go down in Europe. I think they probably will, but who knows how much. Some countries like Portugal are more overpriced than others like Spain or Germany
Serious questions here: Do people flee to Portugal as "refugees?" Have Americans done that? How many refugees this year (or the last time period when data was collected)? Any knowledge or feedback is appreciated. Thanks.
How can Mexican without good education get EU working visa in any country? Slovenian, Spain, Portugal, Croatian for example, what is the easiest way to get visa?
Find a company that exports from Mexico to EU or vice versa. Beg them for any job that will allow you to relocate. Work for two years while looking for something that's also possible but suits the skills you would like to use and develop. If the job promotes trade or offers a service then your chances may be greater. Find Mexican nationals in the EU or Schengen and ask them directly as they'll know more than anyone. There's also the post-grad route but that depends on money. If your English and Spanish are good then a US company may become a stepping stone into Europe. Nothing like this is easy but people are successful.
Thanks for info. I m looking at next year on freelance visa . I believe some rules will be change by then ? After visa I might be interested in tier 3 city or develop village in north Portugal.
Includes the immediate family, there are some extra fees per family member (around 10k) only children under 18, spouses and parents older than 66 are automatically eligible. Older children or younger parents it is not so simple.
What's the point to buy a cheap badly built property in the middle of nowhere where you will spend more money renovating it (if possible) ? And then not be able to sell it or after lowering the price several times and waiting many years....
I recently moved to Portugal and things must be changing. I recently rented an apartment in Quarteira from a small Olhao real estate agency. I was told the apartment was three times bigger than it is. When I moved in I found significant mold. And that is just the beginning. I gave up my apartment based on what I was told by the agency. And I am handicapped so it isn't easy for me to move. Only deal with large reputable agencies.
This is pretty common in a number of places: parts of Spain, South of Italy, parts of Argentina and Brazil. Where winter is not particularly extreme you can always resort to electric heating for the coldest days.

@@traveleconomics you do know that western populations are aging right? In Dutch we even have a word for it "the graying population".

Can you say about the tax in year for different types of property. Thank you.
IMI varies from around 0.3% to 0.45% of the value of a home in urban areas. Rural areas it is higher. Depends on town to town.
@Ivan Jaros good point.
very nice and informative video I'd like to come in Portugal in the last of December what would you advise me
December is a great time to visit the country. Have some pastel de nata and a meia de leite, perfect for the Portuguese winter weather.
Amazing thank you 🤗🙏❤️

It is pretty difficult. But if a company offers you a contract to do even a simple job, like a cook, truck driver, customer support, you can do it.

Those houses in northern Portugal are freezing. No heating installed. My friend had to wear a coat inside. Don't get fooled by the "nice" views.
