    Good video. I've 68 and have been in central Florida since 1970. Unfortunately, Florida is the state where millions of people bring their own driving habits from where ever they came from. Especially on I-4, even doing 10 or 15 over the limit, isn't enough for many and you'll find them switching lanes back and forth at 90 or so.

    Been in Tampa 21 years originally from Pennsylvania. Only con is the congestion, traffic, and unforgiving drivers who don't know how to drive or have an ounce of empathy for others on the road. It was all farm when I moved here, now every free square inch of land is apartments. Other than that, there is tons to do, and you are in reasonable driving distance to beaches, Disney, etc.

    The driving problem is on road design - I wish the lights were longer I blame double center turn lanes, lack of good shoulders, lack of dedicated turn arrows, poor road design is why there are so many accidents. Florida tries to keep the traffic moving fast with too much trust in the drivers on the road- more dedicated turn lanes and all way stops on main roads at shopping plazas also jug handles to handle safer off and on ramp merging are needed- also, investing in public transit is needed Tampa needs a light rail commuter rail system and the HART bus system needs expansion in the suburbs and stop at subdivision clubhouses and trailer parks and apartment complexes and shopping centers so the poor and carless or elderly can be safely off the road
    Another problem is people driving old beater cars that catch fire or don’t have brakes because there are no mechanical inspections required

      I am in Riverview off Symmes Rd. They were supposed to widen it four years ago. Never did, but built a school, hundreds of homes and apartments. During prime hours, it takes me an hour to drive half a mile to the store. They definitely did not think about roads and congestion.

    Great take on Tampa!!!! I moved here from Buffalo, NY a year ago.( also lived in Novi, Michigan). A few comments:
    Traffic: I agree it can be awful and yes, the lights are LONG....
    Service: I hadn't really noticed being any slower down here compared to Buffalo.
    Spring Break: Are you crazy? That'd be great to have drunken college girls around. :)
    Landscaping: The grass here sucks, I do miss the Northeastern grass
    Bugs and pests: I actually feel like there are LESS bugs here than where I'm from. We have termites in Buffalo, although the ants down here suck. They bite and it itches for weeks!!!! More other critters, like snakes, gators and, ugh, frogs THAT CLIMB!!!!!
    A couple of other things I love about being down here ( Land O Lakes), garbage pick up twice a week (awesome), everyone waves (in Buffalo, you only wave to someone if you know them).
    Things I do NOT like:
    Speeding. WOW, they drive fast down here, and I mean fast (and reckless). Highway 41 has no shoulder, so cops can't pull anybody over, so they don't. And locals know this....
    Poisonous snakes, not used to this.
    House architecture, I don;t like the designs down here. I like gables and brick.

  • @57msdeb

    Like traffic is miserable- a 20 minute drive will take more than an hour and more during rush hour, drivers themselves are miserable, the weather in the summer is miserable, crime rate is high, and price of housing has surpassed growth of wages 3X. Expect to meet creatures that we cohabitate with--large bugs, including roaches, lizards, snakes, gators near bodies of fresh water, and the mosquitoes will carry off small children. The most important things to know about red tide is that it stinks really badly, and will make you sick. We live near the coast and it’s bad during red tide. If my grown kids weren’t here, I wouldn’t be either.

    • @trulivingtampa
      @trulivingtampa  2 года назад +1

      DD, it’s definitely not as “Miserable” as you make it sound, but all these are definitely cons. I cover them in detail during my pros and cons video.

    • @57msdeb
      @57msdeb 2 года назад

      The things I mention are miserable and you did a pretty good job with them. However, I didn’t talk about balmy evenings on the porch at 70 degrees in the winter, the beauty of the water, or the kindness of southern people in general. I would just choose a bit further north where the heat isn’t as intense and there are more wide open, rural places. Tampa Bay Area is a good place for artsy people who love urban living and have the money to back it up. Not so much for working people who are living paycheck to paycheck. I grew up here in a blue collar family that wouldn’t be able to afford to live here now. It is a very different place for sure, and not all bad.

    If you are thinking of moving to Florida, DON'T. Here's why.
    The cost of living is beyond what middle class and the poor can afford. You may not have to pay state income tax but it is more than made up for in living cost. Rent prices, for example, are increasing by 28% yearly.
    Floridians, yes the people, may be initially friendly but are not nice. They are rude and rough, lack any sympathy or compassion for others. No such thing as customer service in Florida.
    You have to be super careful, there are scams everywhere.
    Medical care is the worst in the country. Do not go to doctors, dentists or any other health care providers in Florida.

    I lived on the beaches of Pinellas County from the age of 26 until 50, when I was able to escape and return to my hometown of Seattle.
    There’s so much wrong with that state, I don’t know where to start.
    Low wages? I wasted my working years away there and now my Social Security benefits are half as much as my Seattle friends, who stayed put.
    The people? There are many nice, good, intelligent people in Florida, but they’re few and far between. Florida Man is a thing.
    Politics? My God, have they become backwards. Seems to have gotten worse since I left.
    ( perhaps because I left.) 🤡
    I recommend a complete boycott, if you happen to be woke, whatever the hell that means.
