The scene in "Hard Times at the Huskin' Bee" where the skeleton climbs out of his grave as Wirt is talking and begins bonking his own skull with bones resembles the 1929 silly symphony "The Skeleton Dance".

The show also reminds me of Early American folk art paintings in terms of hilly, wooded landscapes with modest cabins and natural colors.

Adding to the hansel and gretel comparison, the song the beast sings (tra la la la) is extremely similar to the fathers introduction in the opera by Humperdink. It was such a cool obscure easter egg!

You sure got an eye for attention for picking up on all these references dude (or maybe there's some wiki that already lists them all lol). But great video again.

Haha! I got a lot of the inspirations from the Art Book and comments on my last video. The art book lists a ton of different movies and cartoons as influences but I still had to watch them all and research how they exactly inspired the show. Glad you enjoyed it!

The show in general, but especially the theme song reminds me of a poem called Ode to a Nightingale by John Keats.

One of the references a picked when watched the show, was the song of the Beast in the tavern, it's pretty similar to the Ichabod crane's short film from disney

I wonder why was Over The Garden Wall so reminiscent and memory bringing show yet all of its inspiration are childhood films and animations even the ones I did not watch as a child yet it stroke me with nostalgia

I've yet to see anyone point this out, but the tavern scene is very obviously a callback to the "Headless Man" song sequence in the 1949 Disney feature "The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad."
