My brother was diagnosed with colon cancer a little over a year ago. Thank you for showing that this necessary procedure is not a big deal and it can save a life. My brother is in remission now and living his best life. Early detection is the key. 💖
My sister was diagnosed Dec., 2018, after a colonoscopy, had surgery, did pretty good, Sept., 2019 got sick again, another surgery, died Dec, 2019. One year from first diagnosis until death. She did everything they said and still died. I'll never have a colonoscopy.
Kim thank you for sharing. I was not going to do a colanoscopy but after this I will. Stay health because we, your fans, need you around for a long time too. Love and prayers.
Thank you so much for this video! First of all we love your family and the healthy humor you all portray. Seriously, I lost both my mom and dad to colon cancer and have to go in for one of these every two years. Everything about what you portrayed was so true! And the thing that really hit the bell… Was when you said “my favorite part of this is to take the most glorious nap!” I have said the same thing To all my friends! Thanks for all the fun you’ve shared with us over these years!
Omg! Timing!! Prepped last night ... and prepped .... and prepped....and prepped. 😝. Ive been watching youtube videos and this popped up. Priceless. Glad ur all good. I leave in an hour!! Wish me luck!
Ella Olszanowski thanks so much for your thoughts. Very sweet. It went fine. One polyp. He felt it was super small & looked like nothing. Nap was great. I feel gross now - I don’t do well with anesthesia- but tomorrow will be better.
When my hub was waking up after his colonoscopy the nurse told him, “Your wife is here”. He looked at me all loopy then told the nurse, “That’s not my wife, she’s much prettier than my wife.” I wasn’t quite sure how to take that !
Just take it as a compliment because it was totally unfiltered and genuine. I don't remember if I said anything stupid or not but you are not thinking clearly.
Just had a colonoscopy today and thanks to the beauty of you tube and the fact i watch y'all all the time this popped up on my feed... Sad part is I'm allergic to that drink so my prep takes 3 days with no solid food! Gotta love our 40s!
Best pre-prep advice I ever got was from my doctor's nurse: Start eating soft foods a few days before "The Cleanse". She said it makes it much easier on you. I still felt like the space shuttle and wished my toilet had a seat belt.
This is such an important video and you managed to make it funny and entertaining. Colon cancer runs in my family too. I lost my mother to colon cancer. I wish someone had suggested a colonoscopy to her. My cousin who is 57 has stage IV colon cancer. Your aunt was so pretty. I'm very sorry that you lost her so young. That prep is definitely the worst part. The best part is going for pancakes afterwards and then going home and getting some of the best sleep ever. LOL 😂
I have had UC since age 5.. I have colonoscopy's yearly. Every year I say I cannot do this anymore but I want to live!! As I prep today watching you has helped so much xoxo cracking up!
I liked this video before even seeing it. I'm shaking with anticipation. It's 5 am and I want to wake up my wife to watch it with me. (I won't.) Kim is such a great sport!
MathAdam, I have read a lot of creepy comments online. Your's takes the cake. You were "shaking with anticipation" of Kim's procedure. I feel terrible for your wife having to deal with you. Just...you are gross. Truly. Get. Help.
Pointer: use a big silicone straw. It minimizes the contact of that liquid crap on the tongue. 😉 I eat so much red meat. I can’t imagine what my colon looks like!
Exactly what I came to comment! I have Crohn's so been getting colonoscopies regularly for twenty years. While the prep drink has improved slightly over the years, that straw is still so very necessary! (Also, hyping oneself up like Kim did)
Yeah for me it's not the flavour but the texture while you're trying to get that stuff down. I always describe it to people as the kinda stuff where, while you're trying to get it down it's trying to come back up. It's so thick
In my 20’s, I had to have my first Colonoscopy and the doctor had me break up those “cleanses” throughout the entire day before the procedure and starting on the 3rd round I started throwing it up. Her reaction before starting it was so dead on. However, the medicine did NOT knock me out. They asked if I wanted more anesthesia and I said no. It was so cool to watch it. I vividly remember it.
Angela Howard same here. 6 hours to drink it and threw up half of it. Have learned to drink Miralax to pre-clean the system out. 3 capfuls to one glass..several glasses.
@@ginabove1701 that's the prep I had for my first one and I'll be doing it again next month. Before my first one I used to love the "cool blue" flavor of Gatorade. Now I can't stand the stuff. This time I'm gonna sacrifice the white Gatorade that is cherry flavored. What bothers me on the miralax prep is the consistency of the liquid after you mix it. I'm gonna use a straw this time so hopefully I won't notice how thick the liquid is.
Thanks for posting. Hope this lighthearted, yet serious, post encourages others to be brave enough to have a colonoscopy. They can be lifesaving, and it sounds like Kim has avoided cancer many times over owing to her vigilance with them.
Thank you for sharing your colonoscopy! Scopes save lives!!! I am so glad that your polyp has been removed & is benign! I battle Crohns disease, so I'm very familiar with the lovely pre-scope prep. Even though my colon was removed 17 years ago during a massive flare, I still gotta do my scopes. I always struggle a bit with the preps. You, though, are truly a scope prep warrior!!! Seriously, I hope others will see that it is manageable & schedule theirs next. Hope you enjoyed your nap! Take care!
I have IBS and so had my first colonoscopy right before my 21st birthday. The prep had me up until 4am so I was sooo happy to be put under for that amazing nap. I probably won't have to do another one for a while, but when I do I'll know the prep is worth that nap in the end.

I just had my first one and thought of you through the prep and while I was waiting to be wheeled into the room. Thank you for demystifying and adding humor to the process. Ii really helped me.
Wow. I feel your pain. You have done a great job of showing the prep and how to handle it. Yeah the prep can be rough but in the long ago past we used to have a big ass gallon bottle of something that tasted like soapy salty water. My Colitis was in remission but has now returned with a vengeance. And yes, I honestly cannot wait for my colonoscopy to be done cause the pain from the Colitis can be unbearable. So, thank you, Kim, it helps to know I am not the only one going through this.
Thank you for raising awareness on colon cancer,it needs to be said . A colonoscopy t is a regular thing to get and an important one but people sometimes act shocked when you talk about the real stuff, than you for your candor,Kim :)
This reminds me of the scene in I think the last Harry Potter book where Dumbledore has to drink down all of the liquid in the basin and they know that it is poisoning him but he has to drink it. Can anybody else see that?
This is so relatable! I’d already done three or four before I reached my teens. Still doing them. I’m actually prepping for one right now. It’s such a relief to know I’m not alone.
I'm 68 and never had a colonoscopy. I scheduled one at one time, but had something else conflict. I need to do this. Now, I know the preparation liquid can be mixed with something else; thanks Kim for that idea. sidebar: how is it that even lying in a hospital bed, post-procedure, you're still drop-dead gorgeous?
I had Colitis when I was in my teens. Then as an adult they found I had Chron's. The doctor took 7 inches out 32 years ago. He said that in 10 years I would not have a colon. Friends prayed over me. Thank God I am healed. I go for colonscopies every 3-5 years. They are amazed that tthey only find a few polops. I agree the prep is the worst. Thanks for sharing. I will keep praying for good results for you also.
I had one in January and I had always heard the prep tasted horrible. The stuff I got didn't taste great, but it wasn't as awful as I was lead to believe.
So important and so glad you are setting an example. My brother died of colon cancer so I scheduled a couples colonoscopy on Valentine's Day (sort of like your dental surgery!). We will always remember that day, and the night before! Keep healthy, stay well.
Hey! I, too, have UC and have had 22 colonoscopies since 2001. Just quit HUMIRA last year. We live in Vegas, but last August started going to UCLA hospital. YOU give me HOPE. Happy to hear that you’re in remission & have a great partner. Stay HEALTHY!
Just had mine done a couple mths ago. Thanks Kim for bringing awareness to an important medical procedure we should all be doing. Do the preventative tests the doctors order & stay healthy folks👍🏼
I had a colonoscopy about 8 years ago and they found seven polyps in me! My dad is a colon cancer survivor and I’m extremely high risk and I was supposed to go back every four years for the test but the prep is unbearable! I know I need to. I know what will happen if I don’t. But I’ve already survived cancer once. I couldn’t bare it if they told me I had to fight again! I’m sorry about your aunt Kim. I lost an aunt too and it isn’t easy. You are one tough cookie and I’m thinking I should probably schedule that test cuz if u can handle it, I should be able to as well. Just know when I’m prepping for that procedure, imma make my own video just for you! 😂 I don’t do good with stuff like this and the last one I had, they didn’t give me enough sedation and I woke up right when they “started”! It wasn’t a good moment for me! 😂😂😂😂 but I’ll be fine. Right... 😕
My daughter has ulcerative Chrons colitis. She was diagnosed with UC at 16 months old..And getting that diagnoses felt like going to hell and back. She started having severe symptoms at 2 months old. And no one would listen as I voices concerns. It was scary..She is 15 now. And we totally empathize with this prep being the absolute worst! Aside from the restrictions on food and beverage, aside from enemas, there was the Citric nitrate she had to chug. It is so disgusting. So I would do it with her. I made a game out of it ,like let's race to see who finishes first. Poor Carly. She would literally be laughing hysterically while crying. Laughing at the faces we couldn't help but make. And crying because it's so bad, hahaha. We stand in solidarity with you Kim
Brianne Hill My daughter has UC also. She was diagnosed at 18 months. She is now 14 and on Remicade since she was 7. She dreads the liquids to clean her out. She always say something like it needs flavor! I was also told before she was diagnosed that I was worrying over nothing!
@@danielearmstrong699 Daniele I am so sorry you went through the same thing. It's unfortunate that moms are not offered credibility for knowing our own children. Who we birthed! I do not wish the disease or experience on anyone. My heart goes out to both of you 💛
Omg kim this was beyond hilarious!! Your facial expressions are priceless! but I'm surprised they didn't have you take the newer prep which is only a very small bottle and actually tastes like lemon lime soda!
I'm prepping today for a colonoscopy tomorrow. I was diagnosed with colon cancer a couple of weeks ago and am in the pre-surgery phase of getting a closer look at everything. I am jealous that you got to do it under anesthesia. We are wide awake for the whole thing here in Finland. The upside of that is that I got to see my tumors and know exactly where they are. I'm fairly confident that everything will go well for me. I don't know yet what stage the malignant tumor is, but the doctor seems to think that surgery will fix it all up. I'm not looking forward to the big cleanse that starts in a couple of hours. That really is the worst part of the process, even if I'm awake for the procedure.
Well done 4 making this private subject public. My daughter (15 now) has 2 have 1 done every 6 months (since 6yrs old). Nobody wants 2 talk about it. So THANK U 4 sharing. (& also making me feel better that it’s not just my daughter & I that think that op-prep is beyond disgusting).
I turn 40 in a few months. I start colonoscopies this year. Not looking forward to it. In all the technology we have these days, why can’t bowel prep (and those glucose tests during pregnancy) taste like wine yet!
So very glad everything went well for you! Got to keep those moving parts all fixed up and working well. And, by the way, my last colonoscopy went so very well. Get those colonoscopies, people!!!
Kim, I'm sorry to hear of your aunts passing. I'm also glad you are O.K. & no Cancer was found. How's that scrapbook? LOL! I'm going for my second colonoscopy (the 1st one was mid 40's. Secondone is also early becauseof my Cancer history and my parents) in about 6 weeks. The liquid was O.K. until my 6th gulp. I think I was getting the drive heaves. 🤢🤮 During the procedure I remember coming to a little and mumbling questions. My Dr has a great sense of humor and we traded some puns. I wrote "sunnyside up on myself and when the started the procedure and saw it, they cracked up. I guess I almost rectum.....er, wrecked them.
I have another in May probably... I had to come back after 5 yrs! I can’t wait because like Kim... it’s all about the nap! I know why Michael did this! Haha! Also, for those that have one in their future, I generally go liquid diet a day or so in advance so the the pre-cleanse is a breeze!! Glad it was all well Kim and your aunt was beautiful!
I feel for you Kim. I’ve had 2 and they are not fun at all. I agree that the after part is great. (I slept for 7 hours after my first one). My prep was different than yours. I had to dissolve the ‘colon prep’ powder in 64 oz of Gatorade, which tasted awful. I had to drink 8 oz every hour until it was gone. I also had to drink a small bottle of some sort of lemon flavored clear fluid, (can’t remember the name) and some Dulcolax tablets. I was able to have some clear fluids, Sprite, lemon Italian ice (no cherry) and plain yogurt if I wanted. Glad to hear your exam went well. They say that you can find humor in all situations. You proved it in this case. Take care.
I feel ya! I've been diagnosed with UC back in 2004.... Regular colonoscopy and flexible sigmoidoscopy..... In 2014 I actually was in the hospital for 2 weeks and nearly died from A SEVERE flare up and narrowly avoided emergy colon removal. Good to see someone be so open about it. A lot of people don't know how bad this decease gets!!!
Thanks for sharing your experience with us. I have to have one done in June. Not looking forward to drinking the gallon of stuff. I had to drink the same thing 3 years ago for my back surgery. Not easy to do. Again, thanks for sharing.
I'm so glad it all went well for you. I'm glad you keep on top of it. What timing. I have to take my elderly mother in for one on the 26th. She's had them before but this time they're checking for bleeding caused by one of her many meds. At her age I always worry until we get the results. Kudos to you for drinking that nasty stuff!
Just found this video. Polyps run in my family. I too have had the joy of a colonoscopy multiple times, as well as a Sigmoidoscopy which is another kind of "fun". The prep is absolutely the worst part, and I could so relate to you have drinking it down. I have found that drinking it with a straw works best for me because I shove that straw way in the back of my mouth so I can't really taste that horrible stuff at all and just swallow it down like that. Still sucks and isn't easy, but that's the method that keeps me from puking it all back up. Good for you for showing your viewers this process. It is important.
*POLYPS Thanks for helping people understand the importance of colonoscopy and how innocuous the procedure really is. People like my mother freak out about it and wind up with undiagnosed stage IV colon cancer. My sister and I started routine screenings at age 40/43 due to primary relatives on both sides having been affected. I can’t stand hearing of people dying of colon cancer; there are virulent types but they’re rare. It’s such a relief to know you’ve been checked, and biopsied if needed. Or excised if needed.
P.S. It's super romantic when she says, "I feel like we'll be the couple they write an article about..." YES! I pray in the name of Jesus Christ her prophesy is true!
I had my colonoscopy at 47 and so glad I did it because they found two pre-cancerous polyps and removed them. Now I get colonoscopies every 5 years instead of the typical 10. So my next one is in 2022. I had to drink a gallon of that stuff over 4 hours and in between drink a lot of water to prevent dehydration from all the excessive times of going to the bathroom. And then the morning of the procedure drinking more of it to be sure everything was out. And yes, the procedure is easy...knocked out completely. If you are familiar with California, immediately afterwards I went to In-N-Out Burger, which was right across the street from the hospital and had two Double-Double Burgers because I was so hungry!
I find if you chill the liquid and use a straw to bypass most of your tastebuds it goes down a little easier. I have UC and my son has Crohn's, so we consider ourselves prep experts, LOL.
Kim, as a fellow UC patient in remission (since 1998, like 12 scopes), I use a straw to chug the prep (recommend mixing sweet Sprite with salty prep). Less on the tongue to taste with straw. Prep is the worst. Kudos on sharing your story and being proactive! Also, I've been in remission (from last flare up) for 2+ yrs. I've added Tumeric & green tea extract (both pill form) to my regimen at the rec of my dr's PA. May be working, I used to get yearly flare ups.
Small piece of advice. Mix up the "prep juice" and put it in the freezer for a few minutes until it gets a little icy. That really helps to make the "juice" go down easier and it has a tad bit better taste....
I know this was from 2 years ago but I'm getting a colonoscopy done tomorrow and HAD TO WATCH THIS as I'm drinking my prep. Also wondering why I have a HUGE GALLON and only seen you have what looks like 2 pints.... Either way had to watch, can't wait for my "mom nap" and BOTTOMS UP!!!!
I have IBS so I've had a couple colonoscopies and I'm 30. Honestly, the first time drinking that stuff I was like. What ever. But after knowing how awful the prep is, the 2nd and 3rd time was much harder to drink that stuff. This last time I got super sick and had it coming out of both ends. Rough! Kim, I totally understand what you went through.

Oh bless you Kim your so brave I think your both such a wonderful couple i love your awesome videos
Penn clearly loves you ❤️ And i'm sorry about your Aunt, but glad you take this seriously and inform others. 👍
I had one in January and I had always heard the prep tasted horrible. The stuff I got didn't taste great, but it wasn't as awful as I was lead to believe.
Thanks for this video. My best friend of 23 years died of colon cancer a week after her 41st birthday. Good health to you!
Ginger ale! Yum! My favorite beverage! Do I want to start drinking... a bottle of ginger ale? Of course!
So important and so glad you are setting an example. My brother died of colon cancer so I scheduled a couples colonoscopy on Valentine's Day (sort of like your dental surgery!). We will always remember that day, and the night before! Keep healthy, stay well.
Kim is so pretty!!! Even post colonoscopy. I think it’s great that she’s spreading awareness!! ❤️
Lol!😂. I love the scrapbook idea!
Hey! I, too, have UC and have had 22 colonoscopies since 2001. Just quit HUMIRA last year. We live in Vegas, but last August started going to UCLA hospital. YOU give me HOPE. Happy to hear that you’re in remission & have a great partner. Stay HEALTHY!
Thanks Kim for showing just how important having a colonoscopy is! You're the best 💛🧡
My heart goes out to both of you 💛
Omg that is so funny, I’m so glad I found your channel
I had my first colonoscopy this year. Miserable prep, wonderful nap! Easy peasy! I love your videos! Thanks so much for sharing.
Omg kim this was beyond hilarious!! Your facial expressions are priceless! but I'm surprised they didn't have you take the newer prep which is only a very small bottle and actually tastes like lemon lime soda!
I am suddenly sleepy and have to go to bed. 😂🤣
You two are hilarious, and here is to your good health and long life together.
Oh how perfect the timing of this video is. I am up right now about to take my fiancée to her first colonoscopy in Cary!
Will Privette Thanks babe 😘
Roll pack!
The glucose test is a treat compared to this lol it agree
So very glad everything went well for you! Got to keep those moving parts all fixed up and working well. And, by the way, my last colonoscopy went so very well. Get those colonoscopies, people!!!
I watched this video several times before my colonoscopy and it helped. Unfortunately my results have ended in cancer. But we still love you
Kim, I'm sorry to hear of your aunts passing.
Praying for you Kim! Love your fam!
I am so nervous about the sedation 😞 I have to have one in 2 weeks
Thank you for sharing! My brother’s colon cancer was found during a colonoscopy, it was stage 4. He passed away 6 months later at the age of 48.
Cynthia Stone RIP 😭😢
I didn’t see this until May 29th. I’m wishing you hope and strength in this time of pain. Sending love from Las Vegas!!
I am so sorry Cynthia Stone. My brother was also diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. He was 35 and lived until he was 40. I miss him so much.
I’m glad you’re ok Kim. That colon prep liquid looked horrendous tho. You’re one brave lady.
*POLYPS
Thanks for helping people understand the importance of colonoscopy and how innocuous the procedure really is.
Nice to see you folks get Canada dry down there .
I love the part where Kim says, "Listen; I'm a mom and I need some sleep.." - LOVE THAT!!
And she's adorable when she's asleep!!
If you are familiar with California, immediately afterwards I went to In-N-Out Burger, which was right across the street from the hospital and had two Double-Double Burgers because I was so hungry!
wow way to go and glad they got it and funny stuff
I have the same issue as you! You are not alone! Good Luck
I find if you chill the liquid and use a straw to bypass most of your tastebuds it goes down a little easier. I have UC and my son has Crohn's, so we consider ourselves prep experts, LOL.
No one ever suggested a straw to me. Thank you!
thank you for this! i am 54 and have avoiding this. minor family history of polyps. love your faces of drinking that stuff! you have inspired me!
1:47 is me trying to take medicine LOL
Small piece of advice. Mix up the "prep juice" and put it in the freezer for a few minutes until it gets a little icy. That really helps to make the "juice" go down easier and it has a tad bit better taste....
You two are so cute together. Great role models for a happy, healthy marriage.
UC here too. Uggh prepopik is the best of the worst preps. Propofol naps are the best naps of your life! Glad you are i. Remission, that is amazing!
As someone who is high risk and has yearly colonoscopies I love ❤️ the beer analogy!
