Without doubt, this is the best content video of taking apart and refurbishing a ResMed AirSense 10. Dennis your step by step explanations and attention to detail were fantastic. I miss not seeing any content from you in awhile. I hope you are doing well. Cheers.
Thanks, man! I'm getting better. My colorectal surgeon has released me from his care and told me not to come back unless my butt tries to kill me again. Just gotta give myself the grace to wait out the 14- to 18-month recovery period. But I'm able to sit a little bit now! I hope to get back to making videos soon! I've got a few in mind already. One of the ones I'm thinking about doing comes from the fact that I've had a lot of friends start CPAP in the past couple years, and they all talk about the panic attacks they had the first time the mask was put on them, and also how difficult it is to exhale against the airflow without turning on EPR. I've been teaching them my breathing technique and it seems to work for near everybody, so I really wanna do a video about that! Whatcha think?
@@AdventureswithCPAP I think a video covering breathing techniques would be very beneficial to a lot of struggling CPAP patients. I remember in my early days of CPAP therapy, I struggled on Bi-PAP where I could never synchronize my breathing with the machine. I now use a ResMed AirSense 10 AutoSet (APAP) using an EPR setting of 3. It works well for me, but I am interested in knowing more about your breathing technique. Don't rush your recovery, take your time. I'll see you when I see you. -- Patrick
You might want to try making a MANOMETER. Mark the side of a deep clear container in CM. Dip the tube in down to container until the bubbles ( and splashing) stop. You can check the calibreation before and after you replace the motor ( Aliexpress $110 plus $6 shipping). You can see the turbine through the clear plastic housing to observe how dirty it is. Since there is a 1/2 inch or so below the armature coils you could carefully dip the turbine end into a 1/2 of denatured alcohol and scrub if necessary with. a Qtip.
I don’t think I would have dissected a cpap with 1350 hours. That is only about sox months use. Probably would dissected a cpap with 3000 hours or more. You came out very well here.
That’s valid! It was, perhaps, unnecessary. But given that it was used in an operating room in the era of COVID, it put my mind at ease to disinfect literally every internal surface.
Started with that machine from my doctor but was lucky to get a bipap off Craigslist so happy i did much better therapy it was new but now i wonder and going to do this thank you
Welcome to the Resmed Tribe! 1337 Hrs 👍🏽! Had and S9 for 4 years, now AC Vauto for 3 years. Supplies are cheap on Amazon and eBay - but I'm sure you already know that. tip: Generic replacement filters are a bit dodgy at times (1) be sure they fit properly on door frame, (2) have the same density as the original resmed filter (arbitrary), (3) rinse them in warm water and let dry before inserting, I've had filters that were a bit dusty 'out of the package' - just my experience, take it or leave it. Cheers now!
I bought my own S10. I disconnected that modem. The one I got from the insurance is the one got recall. I stopped using it just the time the recall going on. I really love the S10. So qiet, so good and got so much support from CPAPTALK forum.
I alsojust bought a used machine - but with 6500 hours (couple of years) so would hope to have two-thirds of its life left. Unfortunately, mine has the dreaded 'motor whine' problem. I stripped and sanitised my machine just as you did. To my suprise,as I first started it up again, the motor was as silent as yours - just like new! Sadly, it only stayed like that for about 3 minutes and the whine started to come back agai. Worse case though - is just buying a new motor from aliexpress, and you should get another 5 or 6 years service frm the machine.
Great video with detailed info instructions. My machine is now machine motor maxed out. I got new machine. How did you program machine for your settings?
Pressing the home button and depressing the knob will take you to the Clinical Menu. If you know what you're doing, that's how you can adjust your pressures and other settings.
@@irenek2k20 Doing great with CPAP! Health issues are a little more dodgy, though. It does seem that CPAP therapy has eliminated the systemic inflammation that caused me so many problems over the past few years. But I'm still dealing with the physical damage. I'll get there, though!
I think so! When I refurbished a much dirtier AS10 than this, the foam was caked with dust and gunk, and I soaked it in hot soapy water for something like an hour, wrung it out, then put it back in the machine, and it held up really well!
Put the button setting on auto on and off then you dont have to press button you can breath into it and it comes on and when you take it off it goes off!
Oh yeah. That was the first thing I turned on. Still, I like having the button as an option. FWIW, the auto-on functionality of the DreamStation was crap compared to this. With the Philips machine, I had to practically hyperventilate to get it to turn on automatically. With the ResMed, just a single inhale and exhale turns it on!
Huh. That’s a good question! I mean, I don’t see any reason to, unless for whatever reason it stops working. It’s probably just used to provide enough power to save settings when the unit is unplugged. Kinda like a CMOS battery on a computer motherboard. Good eye, though! I completely missed that!
@@AdventureswithCPAP Do you know what can be a normal life spend for that type of battery before it can start to leak ? I saw motherboards completely ruined by acid leakage as you probably would ..
@@b9robot727, typically speaking, you can get anywhere between five and ten years out of a CMOS battery, depending on how much you use your computer. So, given that the intended lifespan of these machines is only five years, I wouldn't imagine most people need to replace the battery during the regular life of a CPAP. But still, it's good to know! I honestly overlooked that battery, but that gives me one more diagnostic in the event that something goes wrong! Thanks for the eagle-eyes!
@@AdventureswithCPAP 5-10 years this is good information to know Ty !! TY also to have made this incredible video when you dismantle the machine .. Really really interesting !! Ty sharing your experience ! Stef - Montreal ! :)
If replacing the blower motor, your own personal machine's blower housing - NOT the acquired USED machine's housing. That way you do not need to be concerned about someone else's germs and tobacco odors. I found that even if you try to completely wash the housing parts it will still have a lingering tobacco order - as well as the fragrances from the Dawn dish soap. Do yourself a favor: Use your own housing and just replace the motor itself.

This is great! Thanks Dennis.
Hello friend can you do a vid on pull down a ResMed S8 AutoSet Escape CPAP? To clean the inside. Thanks
Cheers man! This was a breeze! Legend!
Need to figure a way to put the AB filter at the inlet. Assuming no leaks inside machine, wouldn't need to open machine again, to clean.
You will lose the heated hose connection that way. How about finding a super short extension hose and placing it on the extension near the mask?
So the foam part is reusable if it doesn’t appear defective? I’m unable to find a replacement part for that particular item, the circular grey insert.

nice and thank you , but lose the distracting music
I just bought one with only 122 hrs and it’s so noisy
Make sure the tank is plugged all the way in... definitely should not be like that... these are whisper quiet.
DME’s are NOT reserving new machines for new patients. 30 year DME supplier here. You are flat wrong dude.
All I was doing is repeating what my sleep doctor told me. And she’s on staff at the DME I use. So perhaps you should take it up with her.
That is good news.
Need to rerecord it and get rid of the crappy music, can't hardly hear you describing what your doing and why.
There are English captions if you need them.
You take your machine apart every week to clean it?
