Gets a full set for the pc of 3000 rpm fans .
Starts the PC *Pc flies away ...*
+Who is I ? LMAO
AFb0912Dh get this monster in stead
100th like :)
Meh try out Delta fans if you want it to fly away. Many of them go over 6500rpm. I have one that goes 15500rpm.
120mm fans vs 140mm fans bigg differenc 3000rpn 140mm fan vs 120mm 65000rpm the 140mm will move alot more cooler air
Once you go Noctua you never go back, especially because the fans will still live to be in your next build.
Just migrated to a new case and one of my 3-year-old ppc-2000's began malfunctioning. Good thing they have a 6-year warranty!
They live to the next build because you'll never use them with their fucking shit colors unless have pathetic standards
@@69elchupacabra69 What does colour have to do with performance?? I'll tell you N******!!
@@videomania666 woa nword?
how dare you say the gamer word
I want a Noctua ceiling fan :P
Do you want a tornado?
Because that's how you get a tornado.
FADE2691 ....A very ...quiet... tornado.
FADE2691
....Noctua would never make a fan capable of a tornado, the hell are you talking about?
Delta. Delta would make a ceiling fan capable of making a F5 tornado in your livingroom. It would also cause instant death by shredding your heart from the high-frequency noise emitted within 20 feet, internal bleeding within 40 feet, and just ruptured ear drums out to 120 feet away from the fan.
It would also invert the laws of thermodynamics, and cause air temps to drop below ambient. Extreme performance water cooling fans would settle with having ruptured ear drums, and buy sixteen of the fans, so they could double up on their twin 480 rad loops.
Goldmarble it was a joke
Goldmarble Then there are people like this, who don't know sarcasm.
I wish Noctua would make a pc case, and raise the standard of the current bullshit we have with no airflow
You know what I went on a huge research spree and looked at dozens of cases and it does amaze me how wrong so many of them get it...
GameSnippetsUK For real was one of the hardest things to pick for my build :/
I went for a be quiet Pure Base 500DX. Good aesthetics, fantastic airflow, easy to build in.
Like, no shit. Half of the cases CoolerMaster made literally choke the air out of every component.
AlexM, would u prefere Meshify C or 500dx? Care to comment?
Actually years ago when I didn't know about high CFM fans, I thought these Noctua Industrial PPC fans were expensive at $25-$30. Now I realize that the server fans they sell with similar CFMs (from companies like Sunon and Delta) are also in the $30 range. Except unlike Noctua, they don't come with vibration mounts, fan connectors or anything really. So the Noctuas are actually a bargain at that price, believe it or not.
And the noctua are much more quiet
saying a fan being rained on is ridiculous builds a giant radiator setup outside a few months later with the same fans....
i wonder if he even noticed the irony :D
***** well the idea basically is not bad :D its what some server farms use (kind of), but it wouldve been way easier to just install a capable A/C (what they did in their new office)
Yeah...
I've always wanted to make an outside mounted radiator for winter months.
@@Ang3lUki Be careful with this, if your coolant temp goes below the air temp in your case, you'll get condensation on your lines and waterblocks.
I think the brown corners on the black fan actually makes them look kinda classy. Oh and these fans are hella strong, both in the construction and air flow.
I second that
am i the only one who likes The Noctua color scheme. Whenever i see brown and tan in a build i know they mean business!
I like the color scheme myself. The only problem is color matching, but I'm willing to let that go for what Noctua offers.
well i threw color matching out the window when i got my noctua cpu cooler and dont regret it one bit.
When I see Brown and Tan, I usually assume they have more money than brains.
I phrased that terribly. I like The look of Noctua fans and like knowing I have a premium product in my PC. I just meant that they don't color match well.
i dont care for looks as long as i know its gonna work well and silent. Also my case is closed all the time so im good with noctua.
the day that finally Noctua discovers the LED's I'll be on my grave already
aren't fan led's already out of fashion?
Bela Kum Not if the LED's are white. Any other colour has been out of fashion for lighting your PC for a while :D
Bela Kum personal taste varies
led fans are like plastic spinners for your car
LED's are considered gimmicks. I would like to see clear blades before integrated LED's. (Then the aftermarket Bitfenix Alchemy strips or NZXT Hue have something to shine through).
Being formerly in motorsports, it's interesting to see Noctua expanding into automotive applications. I could think of a few uses we could've had for these way back.
Just came back after 6 years to say that this fan is still rocking. :)
How fast do urs go and are they annoyingly loud
@@jrrwtch Approx. 50% most of the time and my GPU is much louder than the fan so hard to say x)
4:15, that spit just flies gracefully onto the fans.
lol
These Noctua Industrial PPC fans are hands down better than any fan out there. They're water proof (cleaning them in water is better than blowing shit out of them) pretty quiet, very good performance, can withstand a great amount of heat, 3 phase motor design which improves smoothness, vibration and power consumption all at the same time. They're resistant to dust, and built really fucking well. I highly doubt another fan out there has ALL these features combined. These Noctua Industrial PPC fans are all time favorite and I will not buy any other fan besides these. They are definitely worth the price and last a very long time. I don't care if they're black or "poop" brown. I prefer performance over look.
The new material, Poly-Amide is more commonly known as Nylon. The glass fiber part means that there are little tiny glass fibers melted into the plastic to make it stronger. It's the same material usually used to make the casings of power tools.
Sorry Linus, but Noctua PPC fans don't work with Low Noise Adapters as stated on the Noctua website...
Caution: The NA-RC7 adaptors are not compatible with Noctua’s industrialPPC series.
Caution: The NA-RC10 adaptors are not compatible with Noctua’s industrialPPC series.
That's why I said I can't use a regular low noise adapter and I have to rekajigger my speed reduction strategy.
+David Yue rekt
+kenykillr Had this of been "David Yue (as in you) got rekt", I would of given this over 9000 internet points.
+modd1uk "Have" not "of"
Joshua Kallen Thanks for the correction, please forgive my grammar fail.
My jaw dropped when the anti-vibration mounts just slipped right off. That is truly the icing on the fan freaking cake.
I like their original color scheme. It's different and just by a glance you can tell they're Noctua.
Thank you Noctua, for obsessing over something that most people overlook, or care very little about. Your fans truly are the best.
These spec out at 160 CFM with 10.52 mm H2O static pressure! I've never seen a 14cm fan provide even half that kind of CFM at that kind of pressure. Too bad they cost $28 and wine like a wounded banshee.
They don't do that pressure at that CFM.
If you happen to have pressure-vs-CFM graphs for different RPMs, please tell.
I think it makes more sense to buy these over the regular consumer models. The speed can be dialed down with PWM control to match the standard fans, and they'll be just as quiet. But with the industrial fans you have tons of overclocking potential from all that airflow, especially in push-pull configs with radiators.
Why does everyone hate noctuas fan palette? I like it.
I'm from 2022, and reviewing this video after 8 years, makes me think how this channel quality has only improved with the years.
Keep it up Linus! 🎉
Just bought 6 of the 3000 rpm ones.... I feel like I made a small mistake but it will be interesting to see...
***** this is true. They are stupid loud but the performance is real.
+Dylan Sands Godspeed dude, godspeed.
+Dylan Sands I did alot of research and went with 2000rpm ones, they are completely unhearable up to 1100 ish and when i need performance 2000rpm is very powerful as it is, i dont like the amount of sound it generates in 2000 and i probably wont ever use it anywhere near 2k on daily usage but its there just in case i want to have some extreme oc fun
+Navhkrin I usually run my 3000rpm ones at max when my 4770k gets to 70 degrees (it doesn't most of the time) And I can understand why you hate the noise. But as someone who used a reference 290x for several months I can switch off from it :P.
+Josh10 70c ? Holy shit bro where do you live
If anyone is wondering, these fans still kick ass 9 years later
Maybe I'm missing something here - but if you're going to be okay with a loud, high-RPM and high static pressure fan; you should probably just get the Scythe Ultra-Kaze anyways. Plus they don't cost nearly $50 a fan.
The advantage here is that these fans have basically the same blade design as the regular Noctua lineup, so thanks to the better PWM amplifier circuit you can still turn these fans down to the same speeds, thus noise, while having the ability to turn them up if you want or need to. That combined with the black means that they are just a upgrade to the regular Noctua fans in all ways bar price, which fairly definitively shows you who they are marketed too...
*****
I'm no fanboy here, I personally run my Define r4's factory fans, just set the voltage to minimum (5v i think) on the inbuilt 3 fan controller. However the Noctua force fan I put on my H90 (140mm AIO) that runs as a rear exhaust was well worth the $29 dollars I paid for it, and since corsair doesn't make 140mm static pressure optimized quiet series fans, I haven't yet found a fan that I honestly think would have been a better pick.
I have also used the PWM splitter, extension cable and even 1 of the 2 types of low noise adapter already in other builds, so I'd have spend close to $10 to buy that lot anyway. Also hooray for a 6 year warranty, that's defiantly a bonus. he other thing I have to say in Noctua's favor is they do sound quieter than the spec sheet tells you, since it is a very low pitch noise they make.
So all in all, I may not recommend you spend big dollars to upgrade every fan in your system, but Noctua fans certainly have a use, and while they may not be your best bang for you buck there "force series" fans seem to be fairly good at most things, well made and honestly its worth the extra 15mins worth of your hourly wage to just get a good known brand you know will work in any role without any fuss or excess noise, even if its sat in your parts box or another running PC for 3-4 years.
***** They come with a great 6-year warranty, low-power adapters, and their build quality and efficiency is great. If you think I am a Noctua fanboy, go ahead. Let me just tell you, I have tried many fans in my life. Noctua fans are top of the line, even though they may not last the *longest*, spin the *fastest*, or be the *quietest*, they are one of the only fans that can do *ALL* of them well. So there.
It doesn't do everything better.
***** I've ran them in the same setup, Prime95 with actually higher room temperature for the Noctuas, and Noctuas outperformed Scythe Gentle Typhoons every time, however only by a few degrees.. That is not to say Gentle Typhoons suck, they are like a slightly downgraded Noctua for less than half the price.
My conclusion is:
If you want ultimate cooling, the quietest and most efficient system possible with 6-year warranty on fans, with money not being a concern, go for Noctua.
If you want great performance, don't need your system to be the coolest or the quietest in the world, and want the best bang-for-your-buck since you don't have *a LOT * of money to spend, then Scythe GTs are indeed agreeably the way to go, IMHO.
_I didn't compare other fans with these side by side, so I can't compare these with Corsair fans or Cougar fans or anything._
I've been waiting for this video for a while now. I got a little extremely excited when I saw it in my feed. Gonna share it with facebook, the world needs to know about these fans.
I deal with industrial fans everyday and these dont look like any industrial fan i have seen. Apart from ppc they are just marketed at consumer than anything else. I do admit that industrial fans are expensive but noctua is out of their mind. Only 3000rpm from a fan for 50bucks is out of question. And they are rather skinny compared to real industrial fan. I know linus is making a big deal out of it and yes compared to consumer fans it is something different but compared to industrial design its nothing special. Overmarketed expensive fan i would say.
Agreed, I could only justify paying 200 bucks for 200mm 6000rpm delta fan. 50 bucks for 3000rpm is what not to pay for a consumer grade "Industrial Product"
widgetpicz These fans are neither consumer or industrial. Too weak for industry and overpowered for consumer. Use is very limited. And delta fans dont cost 200bucks.
SuperStareGry $200 for a fan? That will be plain stupid..... to paid for
***** read my comment again and then reply. It looks like faster spinning consumer fan whoch cost three times as much. There u r thats a good reply to ur comment. And i can find u several fans with 160cfm of air on the market for less. This is just a noise and fake marketing.
They are fans that wish they were industrial but are still a little better than their consumer brother. Enthusiasts with more money than sense will lap these up.
Looks of Corsair + Performance of Noctua= PERFECTION
HOLY BALLS!!! THIS DAY CAME???? This is the best day!!! time to blow another $200 on fans!!!
Purchased a single push fan CPU cooler from Noctua, only to discover just how much room i didnt have after installing it. So much so, that i could not install a pull fan due to lack of room. Eventually, i swapped over to water cooling to combat this problem and my Noctua HSF was left by the way side. Upon discovering my new case had empty case fan slots i naturally reached for my Noctua CPU HSF, slipped off the fan and it is now my CPU's entire area exhaust fan. Bitchin'.
I was so impressed by the sheer quality of the fan and its versatility, that i now have another Noctua fan in my PSU bay helping to exhaust hot air out the bottom PSU enclosure and i plan to buy another PPC to add to my top exhaust as a trio!
Noctua fans rock.
I happen to like the regular noctua colors
Worked for a few years building and servicing ruggedized computers, you'd be surprised how hot and wet things can get in that world. Not necessarily rain, but water spills are definitely an issue. We were already using Noctua's normal fans where possible (i.e. customer willing to pay for them and could get by with the lowish RPM), these would have been a godsend for many other situations.
1)Take out the anti-vibration rubber
2) paint them the color you like.
3) You have a ballin' fan.
Speeeeros you invented chromax, your now the noctua god
Woo! So exited. Thanks linus +linustechtips
I miss this intro song...
I think its a HUGE advantage that their running speed is so high, because then my automatic fan control CAN deal with huge temperatures if they arise (for example during OC clocks), instead of the silent low-RPM fans going full blast and then it not being enough.
The stock 200mm fan built into my Antec case still kicks it's ass in everyway! Black to start with, Bigger blades, more airflow, less sound, bigger dick!
I have one. It's damn loud.
It's all about waiting for 200mm Noctuas :D
Kael turn it down. u probably have it on 100%
The big Bitfenix fans is pretty good and quiet-
Would replace it with a bitfenix or coolermaster fan?
I got one of the NF-F12 (120mm) 3k RPM ones just a couple days ago, at full speed it sounds like a miniature jet turbine so I turned the speed down by 25% and locked it there. I plan on buying some more later on because these actually move some serious air. It’s ~ $26 USD on Amazon right now.
Did I miss it or you didn't test it? Is this even review or just commercial?
Uhhh.... They dropped that fucker in water dude.... Fucking WATER AND IT STILL WORKED!!!
what do you want him to do? challenge it to a blow off? It's a fan mate read that specs if you're bothered.
just him advertising
It's strange, sometimes Linus tests, but most of the time it's just a plug. Bit disappointing really!
Test what?
I had some occational Temperature issues, and I only had slow silent fans.
I bough 7 of these Noctua PPC fans, 4x120mm PWM & 3x140mm PWM, for my two radiators and for the back of the case. Then I plugged them into a Swiftech 8 Way PWM Splitter, and plugged the splitter into the CPU fan connector. My pump RPM cable is pluged into the Opt PCU connector. This works great, the computer runs quiet. I used the Asus FanXpert II motherboard software to crank up to 800RPM. My temperatures are actully much better now. And the fans will encrease speeds if the CPU tempes reach 70 degrees celcius. Now I have the backbone I need to keep my system cool when things get hot. :) I can barely hear the fans at 800 rpm. On full load (prime95), my CPU gets maximum 70 degrees. And my i7-4930k is clocked from 3.4 ghz to 4.3ghz. Nice fans. They look good, and not the least, they feel good. There is nice quality to them.
4:02 So basically they're the honda/toyota (dont want to start a war) of computer fans.
Gotta agree. Toyota, lexus, and most hondas last forever. Same with suzuki and honda small engines. The japanese machining and quality control is immaculate.
'Rained on' is not realy rediculous when they help airflow in a terrarium but are partially in the spray of a watering system when turning on.. perfect for that haha
4:53 "y'all" ...... dammit Linus
I just use 4x 120mm double width SUNON server fans connected straight to the wally through a voltage regulator. I can get from about 900 to over 4.000 rpm.
At low speeds they are silent, at high speed you don't hear much noise from the fans, it's just the airflow. Insane airflow.
hang on, noctua made a fan that DOESNT look ugly as all hell?
Please test the IP67 ones in the rain. I would love to see the non computing applications. I would like to see if it can run reliably in an environment where it may be exposed to high humidity (that will condense, and in worst case, may get splashed). Fan will be receiving outdoor air.
Many case fans designed for computer use tend to be quieter for their given airflow, and it will be cool to implement some on a custom outdoor waterproof enclosure for some networking and wireless equipment) (if the fan can handle it, then it will not bee too hard to use a case design where you have an exposed section of a heatsink mounted to a heatspreader in the enclosure, and then have a little bit of duct work added to protect the fan and heatsink and allow a more clean look when mounted to an outdoor facing wall
it kept power cycling, my issue is if it will do that if water splashes on it, or if water condenses on it.
noctuas on my cars oil cooler.
These are anything but quiet, but I love em. Its keeping my room cold
I happen to like poop brown and vomit tan.
Brown fan master race
I happen to not have ever bought a Noctua fan becuase of the poop brown and vomit tan.
You may get Noctua to pay you for that as well.
Say wut?
You can always see it, but never hear it.
I love the brown and tan colour scheme not everything has to be boring black
7+ year old video..... still some of the best fans available..... also prices have gotten closer to these for most of the high end RGB fans and they still don't compare to the performance of a Noctua.
I was just going to say... my crap ass NZXT AER 2 cost just a few dollars less than the iPPC now... and they are garbage.
"Professional unboxer"
For linus, that could be a pickup line at the next tech convention
Soooo...I have an NZXT Kraken X61, thinking of putting the 2000 PWM version of these fans on my radiator.
Yay or nay?
nay. what even linus fails to understand is that these cost significantly more money, yet have none of the standard noctua's silencing features. You're paying for watherproofing and dustproofing for the motor and the ability to operate under extreme conditions.
Nothing which is necessary for a personal computer. If you don't care about noise, get something else and don't even consider Noctua. A CM sickleflow X 2000rpm fan (for example) has significantly more CFM and MM/H20 than any Noctua fan and is WAY cheaper than the industrials.
Alright will do
duviday A CM Sickleflow 2000RPM has 1mm/H20 less pressure than the 120mm Noctua Industrial 2000RPM, the CFM is basically equivalent (Noctua slight edge). But for 20$ and ~10dba less that's not that bad, too bad they don't make them in 140mm and their life expectancy is ~1/3rd of the Noctuas. You always have to pay a premium to have the best quality.
watsyurdeal I have an x61 Kraken, the stock fans are junk, have started to rattle and are in dire need of replacement. I'm looking at the 2000 PWM version as well. Did you run these fans through your x61 & CAM software or do you have a fan controller? I'm concerned that these fans may draw to many amps, though I believe the power is drawn from a sata cable.
The Kraken can control the Fan Speed of these fans just fine, as long as you plug it into the same pins that your old fans were using. Don't plug these fans into the mobo, just use the pins on the Kraken itself, and it'll control it just fine.
They work great, though if I were you, spend the extra cash and get the 3000 models, just in case.
Never hurts to have strong airflow, and that becomes more important in smaller cases.
I bought a set of these for my new build, and MAN are they loud! Only bought them because of noctua's reputation for quality and quiet, and because these don't look nearly as terrible as the poop brown ones... I can't use them. Even set to 40% on CAM (NZXT Grid2) they are just way too noisy, and at 30% they simply won't spin. This was my first set of Noctua fans, and I think I'm going to get a few more of the Corsair 140mm that came on my case, simply because I already KNOW they are quiet. Even at 100% these corsair fans just slightly whisper at me. I love them. For now, I've set the 2 Noctua fans to only turn on if the cpu gets above 60 degrees, which I've yet to even get remotely close to. I'm averaging about 20c completely air cooled, which is more than I could ask for. Just a bit of gaming, and a NAS. Specs: Obsidian 750D, Gigabyte GA-990FX Gaming, 8350FX, Intel 600p M.2 SSD, Hyper 212 with 2 corsair 120s, 32gb hyperx fury, MSI RX470 8gb, EVGA 1000W, Samsung 850 Pro SSD, and 4 WD Green old fashion hard drives. "Even tossed in a disk drive to show off." LOL Got some red LED fans (corsair), and a red LED light cable from NZXT, combined with the red lighting on the mobo and graphics card. Just posting specs if anyone was interested in what I built. Was my Christmas present to myself. Very pretty, and hasn't skipped a beat yet. Only thing disappointing about the entire build has been the Gigabyte software and trying to quiet down the fans. Once I get the fans sorted, I'll be happy. No longer plan on using the Gigabyte software, as I don't really need it and its kinda chit. Even after spending countless hours trying to get the software to actually work, it's still terrible. Wish I would have just not installed any of it. It's okay though, I'm likely going to reinstall Windows again to get a fresh registry and go from there. Keeping only the OS and main programs (Chrome) on the M.2, and all games and other programs on the samsung 850pro.
How come they don't make the corner rubber black too T.T
because noctua
cuz Brown Master Race
The water proof model can be used for a mineral water setup. It can creat a continous flow of water in and out of the case.
Except, why would you have Mineral Water in your computer? I understand Mineral Oil, but even then, you don't need fans in the case. The only place to put the fans would be on the radiators.
Cassidy Lush So just fill it with mineral oil and leave it there? That won't get hot. No way.
NordicGameplays You don't need to place fans *in* the case. Period. The radiators outside deal with that. Mineral oil cools better than air. Haven't you watched LTT's Mineral Oil Build Guide?
Also, did you mean "Mineral Water" in your first post, or did you mistake it for Mineral Oil?
what if you had mineral oil with 560mm radiator running noctu fans at high rpm
I don't understand this constant bitching about Noctua colors. They are very inoffensive, not like bright green, light blue or whatever.
It's annoying because if you don't want fans that stand out, the regular Noctuas are basically off the table, they stick out like a sore thumb
in silent computers you are unlikely to see any fans except for the exhaust fan
like in my case (Corsair 600Q) all the other fanse are either covered by the front panel and the dust filter or are simply at the bottom of the case
Excellent! Thank you Linus! I have just the application for the fans: my new CNC integrated control box for my mill: the Corsair 900D monster case that will house not just a small D525MW mboard, but a combination breakout board, four Gecko 203V stepper drives, a large 50-0-50 V toroid transformer, a PMDX-125 power rectification/smoothing board (for the Geckos) and a Corsair AX760i PSU (just to over-egg things). Since it's an industrial application, noise won't be so much of a problem. The fans will be used to cool the Geckos and the Gecko power train. Now I just have to work out how to pay for them!
I think I just jizzed. Also, I've actually got so used to the normal looks of Noctua fans, that I find these weird.
If these had the looks of the corsair fans....... Anyway, still an upgrade over the previous gen. Great vid guys.
I need more youtube accounts for liking this video more times!
This things are absolutely awesome! I've got 1 of the nf-f12 2000rpm PWM ones plugged into my corsair h80i. It handles my i5 2500k at 40°C (watching RUclips videos) running at 420 rpm!!!!
Remember: It's only one fan.
$50 for a fan tho?? Why not just get 4 of Corsair AF120s?
Because those fans don't hold a candle to Noctua's offerings.
Why? EPEEN!
as he said. " brown master race."
Where did you get $50 from? NCIX has the black version of the nf-f12 3000 rpm for $24.38 US and $30 Canadian.
Jamees Kirk Ebay had these for about $50 and higher :/
i bought a noctua fan 120mm 3pin about 10 years ago. its still good as new but now since its only 3 pin for my new computer, i modded it and put it in my psu. those things are very quiet and never dies.
Literally getting 8 of these for my Dark Base 900

that old intro slaps
Noctua ppl was like, "you fuckers couldn't stop asking to change the fucking color? there you have it...NOW FUCKING PAY FOR IT!!!" almost 40 bucks for a fan??!! they are really pushing it!!
True but let's face it at this point they are the absolute best in class and in a class of their own. I don't forsee anything beating these for the foreseeble future unless some really new and facy tech comes along.
and noctuas have always been pricey, I dont understand why the pricing on these are so shocking to people. these are just a little more espensive than the regular noctuas with a substantial performance boost. and you always get what you pay for with noctua. Im gunna buy 4 :)
This is an industrial fan. Have you seen the individual piece prices of other industrial fans? 40 dollars is a bargain. For other fans you'd literally need to buy thousands to get the unit price down that low. Single unit prices usually exceed $100, and are often closer to $140.
Sometimes you just need to realize when a product isn't for you. This product isn't for you. Don't buy it. There's no reason for you to buy it. You don't complain about the price of workstation video cards (hopefully), or EEC RAM, or anything else made for industry use. Do you?
Patrik Manni Where do you live? The most expensive industrial fan I can find is $13, if you buy 100 you pay $3 per piece or just $13 for one . $40 for these new fans is expensive, especially when compared to $25 for the older models. I would still buy them though. I think they are purtty xD
SymptomsOFHardstyle Well, tan and brown/maroon IS ugly, but is so recognizable people will think oh cool, noctua, before they say ew, those colors.
Am I the only one that really likes Noctuas usual colour scheme? xD The brown looks really great, especially when you seen them irl, in addition to the awesome build quality they just feel like something special when you take them out of the box. But I really like the new ones as well, I'm totally going to replace my NF-F12s with the new ones (When I have 100€ to spend just on fans xD) and I'm of course keeping the brown rubber isolators, they are a great accent to the black fans!
Why would you need waterproof fans? Um, to clean them. You can compress air and brush all you want, nothing works as good as the sink.
QuantumBraced Maybe if your liquid cooling system leaked.
I bought all Nactua fans for my case it works amazing.
Is it possible to program the fan to only achieve a max of 1500rpm?
+NorthLyfeHollywood Just get the NF-P14s redux-1500 PWM. They have a color scheme of black and gray, not that poop brown and vomit tan.
+pam0077 yea but some guy on Craigslist is selling a 120mm version which is what I need but I just don't want it to exceed 1500rpm due to noise. Is it possible to keep the fan from exceeding 1500?
+NorthLyfeHollywood The NA-RC adaptors won't work with these, so the only other way is a fan controller or bios setting through the motherboard fan header.
+pam0077 should be able to make that work I guess
I set my fan profile in the bios to make them run at 50% speed continuously, which comes up to about 1600rpm. Even at that speed, these fans still push a lot of air.
Hey, the Noctua look is cool!
"Are in the video discription"
That never happens lol
These fans will be really effective in cooling military comm equipment in desert environments.
can i paint the brown things?
nswerhun not really no, they are flexible rubber, paint will flake off.
Yeah, but it doesn't work very well on the rubber corners.
They sell other colored rubber mounts
They sell replacement colored corners in red, brown, white, yellow black, and green. Look up Noctua Chromax
Hello black marker ftw
It took me over a year to find a good controller that could truly create pwm profiles (NOT VOLTAGE) so that these could stay at a quiet temp, but go up if the computer gets unexpectedly hot. Most controllers would only control the fans by voltage with a min rpm of like 1300 before they would cut off. This was extremely loud. The Aquacomputer fan controllers along with some pwm splitters FINALLY solved this issue. I have been using it like this for about a year now and can say this is finally a practical solution. I now have a box full of fan controllers though.
***** I purchased the 5 LT though I don't really know what my decision was based on at the time. I also use 2 Swiftech 8 way pwm splitters which uses power from a sata power plug. The fan controller is expensive, but I probably spend that same amount on several that did not fit my needs, so it would have saved me money if I would have started with that one. Hope this helps!
PS the software works on Windows 10 in my rig. I figure that's worth mentioning since I had a Corsair Link and it barely worked on supported OS's and last I checked (about 8 months ago now) it couldn't even run on 10.
The best thing about the Aquareo is that even if the software stopped working for some reason, the device works independently from the OS and can be fully configured from the OCD. It's just more convenient to use the software.
technicalman Speedfan costs nothing and can control fans via PWM, can confirm I've run my Hyper 212 EVO fan at 500rpm with it ;)
+Energy Core Speedfan is a good option if you have pwm ports on your motherboard that can support all of your fans. I did not. Mine only produced a half an amp on the pwm line even though the mobo manufacturer rated it at 1 amp. They also advertised that there were 3 pwm ports on the mobo, but in fact the others worked as voltage controllers only. When I ran 8 fans off of the 1 cpu pwm port, they would all run at full blast because splitting that signal that many times at only 1/2 an amp was not enough for my fans to register the signal.
I even built a pwm booster which worked but produced an audible electric ticking noise and didn't really fit my needs since I wanted 4 fans to run at a different speed than the other 4 fans.
Good suggestion though. I feel like I should write a pwm fan controller roundup.
If you want to go cheaper and have a manual knob and not have a molex connector, you could always search amazon for pwm controller and buy one or more of the custom ones at 8-27 dollars (based on my search). I probably would have done that if I had thought to do so, but being able to have the fans auto adjust is nice, so no regrets there.

Actually I've been able to control fans with voltage through speedfan. You just gotta go te the advanced tab and choose the right mode for the speeds. The ones that are PWM, you choose that. For ones that don't there's the voltage control option.
I can provide screenshots if you're interested.
Edit: I'm going through the options right now and it seems I remembered wrong. Let's see...
Energy Core You are correct that they can be controlled by voltage. You can achieve a much slower rpm with pwm control before they turn off entirely though. It all depends on your needs I suppose. I wanted these to be absolutely silent under most use cases and to crank up the power and say to heck with silence in other situations. These fans are able to do that (I have the 3000 rpm models). With voltage only control, they were loud (8 fans). I was not able to get them under 1300 rpm without them sometimes turning off due to min voltage rating of the fans. When using voltage control alone I would keep them at or above 1400 rpm to avoid undervolting. I got these things down to 300 rpm with pwm by comparison.. though I don't recommend running them below the min rpm rating like that for longevity reasons.
wouldn't buy these, they are worth more then the hardware in my pc. lol
They're server grade fans, if you buy them for your desktop you'd be an idiot.
Sorry, i am an idiot :P
Stalast Linus said that he would use them for his dsktop, so I guess that he's an Idiot in your book as well
No, because he gets them for free from Noctua.
Stalast No he only gets a few for test and reviews
I like this video because of the last part, million thanks for clarifying that out.
lol 3-phase motor
I know right? 3 phase motors require AC electricity, these are DC motors....
For Brushless DC motors, it's correct to call it three phase. It's referring to how many sets of electromagnets drive the rotor, so the "phases" of the drive system as the rotor processes through a rotation. Usually this means a six-pole stator, whereas two phase systems would use four poles, with two active at any one point in the simplest configurations.
Much can, and have, been said about the beige/broww Noctuas appearance. But it can not be denied that they infact look exactly like this: The best fans on the market!
I loved the humor! You need to keep that up!
So I guess Ill be getting these to my new case sometime in the future. They look great and work great appearently. Very nice.
Agree, best fans I have used. There very effective always running cooler than you would expect compared to other fans. There also very quiet compared to other fans I have use that give similar air flow. I have also never had one fail despite using them for many years and some running 24 7. Only down side is cost, but I guess you get what you pay for.
2:12 "with the badass one being obviously more expensive". Oddly I was trying to buy this through amazon canada (prior to having any knowledge with this distinction of ip ratings), and since they limit to 1 per household, I ended up buying 2 of these fans from 2 different listings. One with ip67, the other one with ip52. The ip67 one is 6 bucks cheaper looool.
I forgot how much I miss videos like these...
I think that they wanted to make the old fans with strange colours because you can easily recognize them. When I've seen those fans in your builds and other peoples builds i could easily tell that they were from the same brand.
You guys could really take a page from automotive design. In rallying, spraying the intercooler (air to air radiator) with water would be used to increase it's heat dissipating capabilities when under heavy boost pressures. If you get those water resistant fans you could easily set it up so that instead of ramping up the fan speed you get a burst of cooler water.
thank god those brown bits are removable i was about to go on a massive rant
I got 3 of the 140mm 3000 rpm fans. Yes they are louder, but I'm not a quiet freak so the noise doesn't bother me. But the temp in my case has dropped by about 8 degrees at idle. I also plan to replace the rad fans with 2 of the 120mm 3000rpm fans.
I already got these yesterday, hooked em up to my Corsair H80i push/pull.
The performance is really great, if set on low my i7-4770K @3.5GHz reaches about 65 Celsius. when put in performance mode the temperature drops 10-13 degrees, impressive.
The thing with the stock H80i fans was a noticable fan noise... the noctua's are silent on that matter. However, i now can hear the airflow all the time... so because of it's performance i am still left with background noise. Nothing really bad it's more like a room ventilator set on low speed..
So if you are a real silent freak, these are probably not going to be satisfying for you.
I sorta liked the poop brown fans. It perfectly clashed with my yellow mobo, blue ram, red GFX card, and green psu.
WAHOO! i always loved noctua ever sense i built my current PC nad now finnaly i can kick out the brown to actually fit the black steel and red LED combo i got going on! THANKS LINUS!
I have 4 of these 3000 RPM fans in my PC and they have more static pressure/airflow than any other fans I could find for 120mm and 140mm sizes. There are more powerful fans, yes, but they require a large power supply in their own right which is not viable for ones own home PC. They do keep my machine pretty cool and even under killer loads, things are only warm. Also, why do people complain about the noise? It's not all that bad. Who even gives a shit when you wear a headset anyway. As far as I'm concerned they are a blessing when you live with other people and decide to turn on the porn cause they can't hear a thing. Legit man, just buy it. If you can't hear your fans turning they most likely aren't doing a good job anyway.
There is a risk to overload the usual low noise adapters if you use them with PPC fans due to the higher current they can draw. This is why they ship different type of LNAs with NF-A12s and NF-A20s.
I bought a 92mm Noctua fan to try to replace my extremely noisy CPU/Case fan (in a SFF box, it serves as both). It's PWM controlled (by SpeedFan), so the current CPU does spin at various speeds depending on my load.
My current fan's speeds vary from ~950 RPM at 0% PWM setting to ~3800RPM at 100% PWM setting, at which point it sounds like a jet engine. The Noctua fan I tried maxed out at 1600RPM. And to be fair, the Noctua did perform better at 1600RPM than the old fan did. It cooled a bit better at that RPM, and it was significantly quieter at that RPM.
The problem? 1600RPM couldn't keep the CPU cooled with the Noctua. It's peak airflow was just way too low for the somewhat higher static pressure to overcome the difference. The CPU would immediately overheat.
I mailed Noctua about the problem, basically asking them if they had any plans for a higher RPM fan. My reasoning was, if Noctua can make fans that are quieter than competing fans at similar RPMs, perhaps they could make a high-speed fan that, while not exactly quiet, would certainly be quietER than competing models.
At the time, they said they only wanted to go after fans that were really quiet rather than just quieter, and that nothing was in the works. But now it looks like they have some 3000RPM models with this new industrial lineup, and that those fans are significantly quieter than normal fans at 3000RPM...
If they introduce a 92mm model, I will definitely give that model a try in my machine and see if it can keep it cool!
FINALLY. I might actually have to buy some Noctuas now.
Hmmm... Don't think I'll upgrade my Scythe Gentle Typhoon fans anytime soon, but this may be where I go when I do. I prefer faster fans and use the onboard controller, a pot, or other means to slow it down. But also I must have longevity. Good review.
got the 140mm 3000's on a noctua d15s because of my fx-9370 instead of AOI water cooler sounds insane works great!
2 on the d15s and 1 on the case upper back to take heat away from vrm! never needed high rpms to cool on load!
Noctua have mainly produced high quality fans for use in server grade and workstation environments. Only since ultra PC's have been a thing have they been focusing on gamers and enthusiasts - therefore the color scheme was never an issue til recently...
newegg had a bunch of promos/coupons. and i picked 4 of the 3000 RPM fans for around $11 a piece. yes, $11 shipped, each. that wasn't a typo. i still haven't gotten them (UPS still has them) but now that i look at reviews i'm kinda worried about the noise. i hope there is a way to bring these monsters to a complete stop via motherboard fan controls when they are not needed.
