    Have you ever considered putting a water tank on to drip on the bar & chain to keep it cool? Love the mill and the view by the way.

    Nice area you live in. Beautiful looking . Man I would love to have every dimension you have and drawings on that set-up you made. I want to make one of them. That looks plenty easy enough to make if I knew how to have it set up. I think a little big motor would stop that from dying down, but still cuts fast. Nice job. I just made a Gransberg style chainsaw mill. Going to make a shed when it dries up enough around here to get my tractor out back. Thanks for sharing.

    It works well for what I use it for. It takes no time at all to sharpen the blade. I don't know much about the band mills. But I think a band mill will cut faster and does not remove a 1/4 inch of wood at a cut. But like I said it works great for what I use it for

    Great job on your mill! Question, what size pully did you end up going to off the motor? What rpm do you think your running at? Thanks Doug.

  • @ronpass6115

    Your mill was one of a few that inspired my chainsaw mill build (wait, there aren't that many chainsaw mills documented). smalls4068 acts like it wasn't that big a deal to build. (He deserves more credit than that). But if it went anything like mine, I tried several things that seemed good and had to re-do them, like the lift system. I bought sprockets, chain and threaded rod and ended up just going with a simple handwinch, cable and pulley system. If you are thinking of building a chainsaw mill, this one is the one to model after. I just had my $40 riding mower engine die. So I am replacing that old 12 hp with a new 17.5 horizontal engine.Thanks smalls4068 for the inspiration. After 2 years of trial and error I am now making 6x6 square beams for a log house.

      it's 3 inch and no its the stock hole however that is a good idea.

    What are the RPMs of the chain? is high RPMs or torque better? nice work.. I am going to try a build.

    Nice!! You see so many bandsaw mills, Are you satisfied that you made a chainsaw mill or do you wish you had built a bandsaw mill?

    I really like your mill. I want to build one. I would like further details on measurements. Where did you get the control box? I have watched your videos many times. Thanks. Bruce. I'm in Louisiana

    Nice looking mill. what is the diameter size is the oil tube going to the chain?
    Also, did you ream out the oil hole in the bar to make it larger?

  • @BonifiedWingnut
    @BonifiedWingnut 8 лет назад +1

    I know it has been a while since you posted this but do you have any problems pinching the sprocket tip with where you have it clamped? And with the 36" bar how often do you have to sharpen it? Thanks and by the way awesome build. I am beginning one shortly. I am going to try to use a horizontal shaft engine.

    • @Smalls4068
      @Smalls4068  8 лет назад +1

      it only clamps directly in the middle of the roller sprocket. does not clamp out in the chain groves. not sure how many board feet I can cut on a sharpening but the chain holds up well. keep your wood clean, remove the bark if you can. the bark has a lot of dirt in it.

    • @BonifiedWingnut
      @BonifiedWingnut 8 лет назад

      Thanks. I was wondering more about can you ut more than one log before sharpening. I have used a handheld portable..just trying to get some comparison.

    • @Smalls4068
      @Smalls4068  8 лет назад +1

      on yes I can cut a few logs before I sharpen. I'm also using a ripping chain not a regular chain.

    Ill post something when its ready to go. Are you using a ripping chain on your mill ?
    Thanks.

    OOOPS.WATCHED THE old vid before this one. Great project. THINK I will build one for TIMBER FRAME LOG BEAMS . A small suggestion TWO oiling points on the bar. Sprocket side oiling pulls oil through the bar to reduce bar ware..overheating and friction drag.. THANKS.

    Watched all the videos. You do have a knack for mechanical engineering. I had this idea a few years ago using the motor from a lawn tractor. Nice conversion, I would have tried to use the transmission too. LOL! You've answer several of my what where when and how questions. Thanks! ever consider an electric motor? Yes it's beautiful country. Your son looks like he was ready to make one himself? LOL

    Hey smalls, nice work. I just finished building my mill using yours as a model. How long did it take before youwerent terrified to stand close to the thing? I ran mine for a few minute test and was affraid the chains was gojng to snap and remove one of my nads.

    • @Smalls4068
      @Smalls4068  7 лет назад

      lol. I'm not scared of mine but I see your point. I'm adding a hand crank feed cable so I'll just be able to stand to the side and at the end and just turn a handle to feed the mill. I would love to see a pic of your build.

    To set the chain tension I gust use a flat screw driver and wedge it in between the sprocket and the bar. Then I just tighten the two nuts for the desired tension it works out fairly well.

    Thanks for your post I am looking for a 4 stroke mill design. . I bought plans for the Procut Mobile Sawmill, but would rather use a 4 stroke engine rather than a high dollar factory 2 stroke chainsaw. Live in SC and mostly plan to mill pine. Do you have any design spes like pully sizes ect or any rough sketches.

    That's the best sawmill I've seen yet! I'm going to be building one as soon as the weather warms up along with my foundry, but I may go with a bandsaw blade because the quarter inch of kerf is a lot of board wasted as saw dust. I also think I may keep blade still and put the logs on the wheeled platform with a block and tackle pulley system.

    • @Smalls4068

      Thank you it was a fun build. Yes you will save a lot of lumber by going to a band saw blade

    Great Video! Excellent Design & Build !! What chain are you running? and do you have any idea on how many say 8 ft passes you get off of each chain sharpening? (assuming you don't hit a rock or nail)

    • @Smalls4068
      @Smalls4068  7 лет назад +1

      It's a 3/8 36 inch ripping chain. I'll get about 2 to 3 dozen passes before I change the change to a freshly sharpened one
