I saw him do this song live here in Philly and couldn't get it out of my head, the ideas as well as the tune and lyrics. I'm so glad to see it posted and that it'll be on the new album!
My husband is in the military. I was honored to hear this song live while he was in Iraq. Mason Jennings sings what my heart needs to express. He is a gift.
The chord I think you’re asking about is A flat minor. He’s in Eb tuning. Meaning he tuned each string down half a step (Eb,Ab,Db,Gb,Bb,Eb). So the actual chords in the chorus that you hear are: 1st line- Fb slide to Gb Fb, Cb (at the lyric “field”) then Gb 2nd line-Fb slide to Gb Fb, *Ab min* (at the lyric “star”) then Gb. Lines 3 and 4 repeat lines 1&2 chord progression. But the chord shapes you play with your fingers on the fret board are just the normal F slide to G, F, C (or) Amin, G

Best anti war song from the Bush/Iraq calamity. Thank you for penning and giving this to us, Mason Jennings.
Its a shame all these years later its still going on. Hope Trump keeps his word and has them all home by the end of the year
rolling stone writer called it the best war song ever written
@falconer333 Rolling stone called him, "the best songwriter you've never heard of."
i like how anti and pro war people can cling to the same song...
Mason has about two dozen songs that would freak people out they're so good. Oh well. He'll become known eventually.
hes still barely known :( ive always listened ti him as a kid and came back for nostalgia and realize hes still not as big ad he should be
Mason's a great singer songwriter. I've been listening to all of his stuff for a long time and it never gets old.
Same. Dedicated, sincere, consistent. Loooove it.

2 years late, but its a barre chord G. He usually plays a half step down on all the strings as well, so technically it would be an F# major.
wow what fingers
