I'm diving into mason jennings youtube lineage because I do love his music but I found a woman who I feel like sees me like no one has in my entire life and Mason Jennings is adeptly able to speak to that. Good vibes.
This is a great song and I love this version. I also heard Mason play this solo on the piano in San Fran. It was incredible. Mason's one of the most under-rated musicians around. Johnny Cash was a fan of Mason (he was planning to record one of Mason's songs not long before he died). More people ought to be.
Mason has been around for so long. I used to wonder why no labels have signed him. But then I saw that he's avoiding these major labels because he wants 100% control of his creativity/writing. He doesn't want to write songs about what label execs want him to write about. He was on Isaac Brock's glacial pace label (a subsidiary of epic records) for the release/promotion of Boneclouds. He's got this beautiful aura when he's singing. I respect him more as an artist, than I do any other current acts
Pretty sure that drummer Mason is using these days is the same drummer that Atmosphere used in their live shows around the recording of "Sad Clown Bad Dub". Must be the Minneapolis connection - but from a drummer's perspective, I would those would be two of the coolest gigs you could get (Mason's drummer and Atmosphere's drummer?) Sheeeeyat.
